Flubbed the left/right reference on quarterback hands, obviously. Had Penix on the brain when mind’s eye was focused on Fautanu at left tackle, just blurted it out. This show’s never, ever scripted. Blah. -
😂😂😂
❤❤❤I say crazy stuff all the time 🤷♂️
Yeah, I had to double check that Russell was indeed a righty and I didn’t miss it somehow in the last 13 years.
Too bad they don't play on paper.
After listening and watching you for so long and only one gaffe, you still get an A+ from all of us. DK Pittsburgh Sports is always coming through with top tier content, and we thank you. A+
Right side and put jones back to LT
First of all, Russell Wilson is right-handed. Second, Penix is left-handed and Fautanu was his LT which wasn't his blindside, so I would assume the Steelers are going to try him at RT and move Jones to LT which Omar Kahn was adamant about when asked about it at his press conference a month or two ago.
You are absolutely correct. I have no clue where DK got Wilson was left handed. A few episodes back DK didn’t know Wilson was even married. He still has no clue who Ciara is. It’s safe to say DK has done little to no research on Russell Wilson.
Is he? I’m confused. I just looked it up, and it says he’s right-handed. Time to watch some footage
It’s still the same position regardless of the QB hand. Its movements, sliding and technique are still the same. A left tack is a left tackle and a right tackle is a right tackle non of that changes just because your QB is left or right handed 😂
@@Keefer24 The QB sees the rush coming from his throwing side, so it's easier for him to move around and that's why some Tackles are better on the throwing side of the QB. Broderick Jones was a LT at Georgia protecting Stetson Bennett's blindside and the Steelers stuck him on the right side for a reason, the speed of the game. If he was able to go to the left, they probably would have done it sooner. There's a reason teams stick college LTs on the right side and it's to get acclimated to the speed of the NFL and it's easier for the QB to see that. Some players ultimately stick to the throwing side because of that reason. Noone's saying Fautanu can't do it, but they have two college LTs on their roster in Broderick Jones and Troy Fautanu, one protected the QB's blindside and one didn't, there may or may not be a reason for that, which is all I'm trying to say.
DK, Tomlin said right tackle...Fautanu played left side cuz his qb was a lefty. Russell Wilson is a righty, Fautanu is used to NOT being on the qb's blind side ..it should be not a stretch to play right ...I dont know why you don't think he can't play right side when basically he's never played the blind side in college! Besides he said he can play anywhere
If Trice ends up being as good as people said he was last year....imagine TJ, Highsmith, Cam, Queen, Wilson, JPJ, Trice and Minkah....lmao i have no words...lol
Benton
I want Donte Jackson to work out as well
Don’t forget Holcomb too…he was having a pro bowl year until his injury.
@JackSlatersPontiac did u see his injury? He's done bro....and God I hope I'm wrong...I truly hope I'm wrong....but he will never be the same again...when u get that kind of injury, u never truly give it 100% anymore becuz u don't fully trust ur knee... so u play at a much lower rate.
Fautanu is playing RT. Stop over tinking it! It is that easy.
Right? He played LT with a lefty qb which translates to RT with us. He’s a high iq guy too so it shouldn’t be impossible to convert
Well it's more about his comfortability playing on the right side. Not everyone can play on both sides. It's very different play8ng left and right tackle
@davidoliver62 He's not Dan Moore and will get comfortable being uncomfortable.
@DIGMyers No one said he was Dan Moore. A lot of players struggle to play both sides at a high level. It's actually pretty common. Same wa6 some edge rushers are way better 9n one side compared to the other. Only its that times 2 for a tackle to play the opposite side.
❤ Great coverage through the offseason DK loving this show.
Coverage that connects!
AZ Steelers Nation Happy Monday DK
"They crushed it."
At this point, on paper only.
It's so great to have these "problems" now.
Morning DK, HARD working Stan the man checking in. I'm still napping until Russell Wilson takes the field. Lol, I've learned over the years not to believe the hype. Let's just wait and see.
My thoughts are that the OL should be near the top of the pack after this draft which was quite an accomplishment from 2 years ago. The QBs and RBs should be very happy about this!
DK, im just gonna be honest man! I AM JUST SO HAPPY AFTER THIS DRAFT! Straight up! That's all folks!
Personally, I would put him on the right, with Darnell to his right. Really depends on where Arthur Smith sees the strong side of his formations. If it's to the right, Broderick makes a better backside anchor on the left. I would want to utilize Fauntanu's athleticism, like getting him on the move around Washington. My gut tells me we get some form of an unbalanced line, both with and without a 6th offensive lineman. ❤🔥🍻
Fuatanu played left tackle for a QB who was Left handed in college. In that scenario he has had right tackle responsibilities. He’s playing right tackle.
Got to wait. Watch What they do not what they say. Thanks for the xtra shows this weekend.
DK, don’t you think Fautanu is really a LT in name only because he spent his entire college career blocking for a lefty QB and that means he blocked on his “strong side “ of the Oline (typically the RT spot) and not the QB’s “blindside?” Seems to make sense to keep him on the QB’s strong side regardless of left/right designation.
Makes sense to me Theresa! 😊
Dem is da facts!!!!!
Hey DK! I know everyone bashed you last time you mentioned him but after this draft and FA, only 1 position of need is left. Cam Sutton would be an amazing pickup. Of course if everything with the charges are cleared
Definitely was a good draft now we need a vet wide receiver
Just insane to see how much this team changed compared to a few months ago. Really hope we can put these pieces together. Just a few months and we will be back at Latrobe!
Loved all the picks!!
I thought for sure they would have to trade up DK. Every player fell right in place. If I were to pick Offensive tackle right now, I would go with experience first and see if they have gotten better. Then look at the possibility of moving Broderick to the left and Troy to the right because it has shown to work with Broderick. Thanks DK for another great show.
Starting a rookie non-blindside tackle as the blindside tackle when we already have a proper blindside tackle with a year of NFL experience under his belt makes little sense. Stick to the original plan - Jones and Washington on the left. It's one of the main reasons why we drafted Mt Washington in the first place.
Dk, John Kolb is involved with the Steelers? He was my neighbor in the early 80s. I was born a month before his son Conner.
I think we have a great team on Paper..Check this out ,yesterday evening, we got Beanie Bishop CB from West Virginia who was one of our pre draft visits and we didnt need to draft him..He fell to us as an undrafted player..DAMMIT🔥🔥🔥🔥..HERE WE GOOD...If the team plays up to its talent..I believe we can at least get to a AFC Championship game..
Beanie isn't going to make the team though
I am not advocating for anything but a better o-line. All I know is Jones and Fautanu need to be our starting Tackles day 1 and for years to come.
Troy at right and jones at left - amazing draft! Not only is the O line fixed- finally! But our defense with the addition of payton & queen are going to be lockdown!
So I’ve been thinking…what do Payton Wilson, Patrick Queen, Donte Jackson all have in common? Speed. and with that the ability to blitz. Do you think Mike T and Teryl Austin want to diversify their ability to bring pressure?
He was a left tackle for a left handed quarterback in college, so essentially he played right tackle in their offense scheme, so he can be moved to right tackle in the NFL.
That makes no sense, the position doesn’t change depending on the QBs hand, the technique is still the same regardless. A right tack is a right tackle and a left tackle is a left tackle. The positions don’t change just because a QB is left handed 😂🤡
We are all living a charmed life! Did everyone put an extra dollar in the plate at mass? :)
I think it’s clearly at Right. He said he practiced at Right nearly equally as much.
No one declared Broderick as an any position OL but Fautanu said the same thing as Broderick coming in which is his head coach did a good job at cross training them at left and right tackle so he has as much experience as Broderick on both sides or more since he was in school longer
This draft and last years draft which we were equally excited about means absolutely nothing unless the play on the field improves and the win column improves. I can’t stand preseason hype. The true measure of draft success is wins and not getting blown out in round 1.
It's OK to get excited big guy. The team has greatly improved over the off-season..particularly at the most important position
A lot of questions come with all of this top notch talent. Only time will tell. Oh ... wait ... don't forget we need top notch development to go with the rookies.
Fa-u-tano is a better pass blocker, maybe keep Broderick at RT. Idc either way, put the best at each position. Great problem to have, especially since Troy said he'll play anywhere to help the team, he doesnt care.
Broderick would be much better in pass protection on the left side in my opinion. Fautano may have more adaptability in this regard (as he himself said).
👍👍👍👍
My question, which one can hold up TJ Watt at the pass rush, constantly ....? Liked the picks, now we just need to get to work..
2 years in a row of great drafting by the steelers.
Its all good DK, we all hatch someones name or make mistakes referencing something from time to time. Your always working hard, get you some rest brother!
He was a LT blocking for a lefthanded QB so in theory he was a RT. So putting him at RT blocking for a righthanded QB is the same assignments. Shouldnt be a problem.
Agreed. They nail it
Hey DK, maybe I'm the only one, but I do have concerns with a few of the draft picks. Fautanu's anchor at the college level wasn't the best and I'm concerned he won't be able to deal with the bigger stronger rushers in thr NFL. Also, Payton Wilson regularly got swallowed by blockers and couldn't get off of them, even without the missing ACL bringing his draft stock down
If he starts they would never put a rookie on the left side unless he is a once in a lifetime talent
Fautanu needs to be on the right side to better utilize Jones and to cross train him as Jones was forced to do. It seems like it would be best for both players and the OL.
Run baby run!
Right side. Broderick Jones to LT. And for goodness sake, do it now. Dan Moore YOU'RE BENCHED.
Depth at DOMINANCE
For J1Q: Do you think Andy Weidl stays around? Obviously Omar has the title of GM but he is not the scout. Do you think Andy is satisfied with his role or wants the official title at another team?
Fautanu is a front side takle.. left or right depending on the QB... Penix @ Washington was left handed. Pretty simple really.. same job to do just on the opposite side
When media outside of Pittsburgh starts talking about us having the best draft… you know it was good.
With how things went last year I almost assume Broderick and Dan will still start, but that might not be the case at years end. That's going to be my assumption until it's announced otherwise. Who know though, maybe Dan gets moved off for a receiver in some fashion by preseason.
The amount of people that keep bringing up that penix was left handed so he’s basically a right tackle clearly know nothing about football at all. The technique doesn’t change depending on the QBs hand. A right tackle is a right tackle and a left tackle is a left tackle. It has nothing to do with the QB 😂
I sure hope Tomlin's apparent "step back" in the draft process bodes well. After all, wasn't it he who led the charge to pick Pickett and gushed about his success in being able to get such a prospect? And wasn't it he who also surprised everyone with his choice and build up of one Kendrick Green?! I, for one, am glad he has less involvement.
Funny how much people lack the understanding that these are Athletes first. They want guys to be Universal especially at this level it makes you more valuable. Many Dual Sport have Skill Sets that can be applied in multiple positions. The Point is having ALL linemen to be experienced in All the Positions if not multiple. So Yes Fantanu will be playing Right Tackle and if he is that good TJ will get his Skill set up to speed.. Come on Guys this isn't HARD. The Goal is to Dominate and for that You Need Guys who can Swap and Move to keep the machine running. Don't live in your fears or you can't see what they are doing. If they move LB and D Line guys around then we can move Oline guys around as well.
What other OL from last year will be able to take part in rookie camp?
It was a very good draft however due to Ohmar just like Colbert not getting the memo that the NFL is all passing this secondary will cause another 55-20 playoff loss and the WR room is not much better.
This may be our 3rd dynasty from the drafts afforded by our recent years of mediocrity no loss seasons. I sence the electricity in the air. Our second dynasty was only diminished bythe NEPs combined talent, filming of our pre game play practice, game ball deflation, and a talented QB, AB and Bell debachale, and our lack of shoring up our OL. BIG BEN and the guys should have had at least 2 more Lombardi's stollen by NEP, and possibly4 or 5 from our internal issues.
But now...
Here We Go!
This space is for our future
Lombardi Championship
Run.
Tink Glen Morange Tink
Troy said he played right tackling high school and he also played for a left-handed quarterback in college when she played on the strong side and as far as I know Russell Wilson has never thrown the football with his left hand😂
Both drafts by Kanh broke very well
You need to protect your quarterback's blind side. He's got to have confidence that he's not going to get smacked from behind. That's where you put Jones.
DK didn’t Jones have his best game was when he played the LT when Moore was out and in college did Jones every play at RT or just when the Steelers moved him over there because if not then they can do the same with Troy
RT.. End of question.
He is going to be our RT tackle Penix is Left handed the Front office has made it clear BJ is going to his original LT
And with each players tool kit Fautanu is the better pass protector jones the better run blocker this shouldn’t pigeon hole them into anything on paper but there games will tell us in TC
Whatever side Najee likes to run to Troy will go there. ✅
Now isbtime for the coaches to do their job
Wilson going to be on field with queen and roberts...
I believe that Tomlin has to be given credit for finally building a philosophy: Finding players willing to do anything to win.
DK, Troy probably played LT to protect Penix the LEFT handed QB!!!
At Georgia, Broderick Jones allowed just 2 sacks on more than 1,200 total snaps playing LT, including none in 2022. He allowed 4 sacks last year at RT on only 766 snaps. Fautanu (according to his own words) can play anywhere on the line. Didn't we just have a guard Dotson playing out of position for the Steelers (LG instead of RG), who is now playing much better on his natural side of the line on another team? Not everyone is versitile. I would at least start out the season with Broderick at LT, where he excelled in college.
Kevin Dotson - Steelers LG 2022 PFF Rating 65.4; Rams RG 2023 PFF Rating 85.2
Broderick Jones - Steelers RT 2023 PFF Rating 60.7, 2024???
Troy protected front side of QB n that’s he’ll do it again, you don’t keep BJ at RT 😂😂
wait until they start dan moore at left week one and leave Broderick on the right people won't be giddy they will be pissed i loved this draft though
Left tackle for a lefty QB, and isn't necessarily needed immediately.
Troy will play RT, I'm guessing.
three dogs
two bones?
They moved Jones without knowing and he was fine. Why not Troy?
I wouldn’t give Tomlin any credit! If he were that involved why did we have so many bad drafts before Khan became general manager? I think Khan chooses his players and simply tells Tomlin why he thinks the player is a great fit and Tomlin just gives an ok nod.
The issue is front side vs blind side. Troy will easily play RT.
Troy is lil better in space, hence Tomlin talking bout that while watching a game in hotel, so you put him where Russ will roll out more often which is to the right, Broderick is bigger always put bigger guy on left🤷🏻♂️
Fautanu should stay at LT and Broderick should stay at RT. It won't matter anyways since Troy most likely won't start the season at either position unless there's injury to Dan Moore or Broderick. Remember last year Broderick didn't see the field until Dan Moore went down with an injury and that didn't last for long. After Broderick started only one game at LT, Dan Moore was back at LT the following week and Broderick barely saw the field as a reserve OL the next two weeks. It wasn't until the issues with Chuks came up that Broderick saw the field again, this time at RT and that's where he played the rest of the year. I expect a similar slow progression of Fautanu as a reserve OT until the time comes that he takes over for Dan Moore, which may come sooner rather than later if Moore has another poor start to the season like he did last year.
Dude said he played a lot of right tackle in practice and that his coaches cross trained him just in case of times like this plus he's open to playing right tackle. Don't make a big deal out of it DK. He's a humble kid!
RT for the Rookie.👍
right side
Brodrick,Troy, and Dan want LT. Let the best man win during camp. Then the other two can battle it out for RT
Both players know whichever gets the shaft to the right side will mean losing millions of dollars in salary over a career, it's really kinds screwing these young men quite frankly, if you are completely honest about it, it's like you apply to be a Dr because of your medical degree but then you're forced with no choice to take a janitorial position and pay for your career, when other teams would have used them properly, since neither failed already at Left tackle on the field already to justify the change, it really reveals how the Steelers level of "respect" is to these young men personally, selfish, tricky, I'd be pissed if I was either one of them seeing the game they are playing with their careers and how they really "respect" their futures
Who cares? As long as they both block good on the passing plays and push forward the run game, then I’m solid
Why does everyone look small compared to Camm .
Troy said himself hes played every position on the line and would play RT so broderick can go to LT
No, he’s not. That was a slip up
Broderick back to left, troy at right, if it doesn’t look good then let brod stay at right and Troy at left. We know that works, but let’s see how it looks in reverse
😶
First Rounder gets the Left. Oh wait :)
I think he'll be staying at left Broderick's more of the bulldozer.
Sure, Fautanu played LT, for a lefty QB!! Put him at RT and put B-Rod at LT. What are we talking about here??
This is not a wonderful draft as much as a very very lucky draft
Imagine thinking that luck is the reason the Steelers got the players they wanted when the draft didn't go the way *you* thought it was supposed to. Like, you think RUclips and Blogs gave you a more informed idea of how the draft was going to go? Then when your draft board was wrong and the Steelers draft board was right, it was because the Steelers were lucky. Astounding.
@@jonholzworth4463 Imagine thinking all the other NFL teams are incompetent enough to draft all those mediocre tackles and centers before we got to Troy and Zach.
It's so unethical to do this, selecting a 1st round Left tackle knowing you are going to move them into a 2nd or 3rd round position and pay, really low down shit, teams that draft 1st round players don't devalue them by moving them to lesser positions, Steelers front office really showed their true colors on this one, these players are expendable to the Steelers brass, it's different when a first round Lt fails on the field justifying the change to RT, but drafting to do this all along is classless, at the very least, whichever ends up at RT, hopefully the Steelers will give them a big kiss, cause they sure screwed them out of money and a lesser valued career, that's just the truth, very unethical and classless decision making by the Steelers and obviously you have to question the entire Steelers narrative that they care about the players so much when they do sneaky classless stuff like this so obviously, just wow, imagine doing this in any other profession, hello lawsuits, discrimination, etc. Just wow I never would have believed they would actually do this to one of these young men as if their careers and them matter so little and the player deserves no career respect
Plus he's 3 quarters from 6'4. Stop it with the trying to make a big deal out of nothing. He's playing right tackle DK
