I’m a Steelers fan from Baltimore. When my dad and I went to a Steelers game in Pittsburgh, we met a family at the grocery store the day before the game who invited us to their tailgate the next day. Yinzers are some good people

You’re not wrong. I live in the northeastern part of Pennsylvania. You have people that came from Philadelphia, New York and New Jersey in this part of the state. And the times that I’ve gone to Pittsburgh, it seems like a very different culture of people.

I’m in my 50’s and live in Dallas now. Grew up in Squirrel Hill. I remember being a little kid, watching the adults scream at the TV for the first 2 70’s super bowls. I remember watching the last 2 in the 70’s. Moved to SoCal at 15. I finally made it back and saw my first Steeler’s game in Pgh in my life for Kenny’s game against the Saints. Brought one of my sons with me. What a magical trip. Took the stadium tour. Let my 16 year old have his first taste of beer at Mike’s Beer Bar. We went to the draft when it was in Dallas, wow, it’s worth the hype! We’re already planning our draft trip!

Hey DK, hope you see this comment because it has a lot to do with what you were talking about. I’m originally from Beaver PA and my family was all about the Steelers and Pirates. I remember listening to Bob Prince and Nellie King on the radio out on the back porch with the whole family.
My mom and dad divorced when I was 13 and my mom moved my brother and I to Rhode Island to be live with her mom. It was a very difficult time for me. That was 1972, the same year as the Immaculate Reception. It was like the Steelers were there just for me and I talked with all the family I had left behind. The Steelers were more than just a football team, they were my connection back home and back to all the family I left behind.
Fast forward to a couple years ago. I had never been back and now I’m 60. I had never seen Heinz, as it was then, field so my kids rented an air B and B on right near the top of the incline and we went to Steelers game. It’s against Buffalo when Hodges was playing QB. They lost a tough one but just being able to be there and experience the city again was beyond words. It meant so much to me and was like reconnecting with a time that I truly missed. We walked all over the city and it was truly a beautiful place.
I still haven’t been to PNC park but I hope to soon. Hopefully the current ownership and management team will be gone and replaced by people who actually care about winning and the great history of the franchise.
I’m 65 now so I hope maybe to bring my wife with me and show her what a great place Pittsburgh is!!!
Thanks for all you do, listen to your shows every morning at work. Yea, still working and probably will be but that’s what we do in Western PA, we work hard and live our Pirates and Steelers hard!
Hope to meet you one day!
By the way, ran into Richie Hebner up here in Massachusetts! Had a great visit with him for about 15 minutes. Let me try on his World Series ring!!

You are a member of the Pittsburgh diaspora. Most members were children of mill workers after the mills closed who moved elsewhere for work. I think that is the reason for the expansive Steeler Nation. OTOH, I grew up in Cleveland, but became a Steeler fan because Dad grew up in Windber, PA, a central PA mining town, and was a life long Steeler fan. My connection to Pittsburgh is hereditary. Thank goodness, because being a Browns fan would have been heart breaking.

Wilson isn't fast? Almost every report talks about his elite speed. He ran in the 4.3's I believe. Every highlight I've seen has him outrunning everyone on the field. Interesting that you would say that.

I love your city. Always been kinda obsessed from the old cut seens of landmarks, and attractions during games growing up, seemed nostalgic almost the first time i visited. Grew up in Ohio( I know puke) but anyway seen a Lynn Swann highlight reel as a 9-10 year old kid ,and thought he was superman. Then realized they had a whole team of supermen, loved that team since. Love all the Pittsburgh sports teams( well Im a Buckeye fan , but I dont hate the Panthers it'd be my second fav college team. Anyway all this ti say I get your civic pride DK , if i could convince my now grown children to bring my grandchildren with me and move there I wouldn't hesitate. Go Pittsburgh , and all the teams, and people calling it home. I'll be back as often as I can

I am a Steeler fan from Wheeling, WV, cousins who lived in MT. Lebanon. I grew up on Terry Bradshaw, Lynn Swann, Stallworth of course Franco and the Steel Curtain. I left for the Army in 1986 and have not lived back there since then. However, I have never waivered in the love of our Stillers. To your point DK, how Pittsburgh has changed. I have visited frequently and have noticed how it has changed for the better, even Wheeling has made some strides in re-inventing itself. I will always love our Stillers and Yinzer nation!

Hello DK! Love your show and especially the Ramon Foster Show. My wife loves you guys. That's the only show she is eager to watch. I love my STEELERS! I have since I was a 10 year old boy here in Phoenix, AZ. I am now 61 years old. My dad didn't have a favorite team, he just hated the team from Dallas so I did as well. When I noticed the brand of football that the STEELERS were playing.....I bought in.... hook, line and sinker! I believe we are calling it "bully ball" now. LOL My wife and our son and myself finally made it to Pittsburgh for the Sunday night football game against the Seahawks that went into O/T a few years back. Man.....that was quite the inauguration for us. We loved the city and especially the people. My wife says next time we go we are going to visit your shop. All 3 of us are heading to Denver in week 2 this season to see us beat up the Broncos. Can't wait for that! Love your show and the city of Pittsburgh.

DK, I'm born and raised in CT in 79 and moved to NC in 2013. I've been a Steeler fan since I was 11. I watched the Greg Lloyd scariest man in the nfl segment on some show and was hooked right then and there In CT you're a Patriots fan or NY team fan. My whole life I've dreamt of going to Pittsburgh and last season opener that dream came true just to have it end with the 9ERS crushing us. That was the trip we're I finally got to meet you. Meeting you and Moats was on my Pittsburgh bucket list and I was blessed to do both. I always thought I would fortify to Pittsburgh and here's to keeping a good thought that I'll be welcomed.

Your right DK I am born and raised in Pittsburgh and I graduated high school in Penn Hills. I moved to Houston Texas in 1980 and still have the love for my home town and love for my Steelers and Pens! Since my mom and dad passed away I have not been back to the Burg in a while. I live and die with the Steelers every year. We were so close to making it to the super bowl here in Houston and it was a big let down when that did not happen. In the 70s everything started turning around for our town. The signs everywhere were For Pete's sake Keep Pittsburgh clean and everyone bought into that. Pittsburgh is an amazing town and it started in the 70s with the Steelers and all the yinzers that cleaned up the town and made it the beautiful place that it is today. Rock On DK!

It was the first time I watched Monday Night Football (we had finally got an antenna tall enough to pick up an American TV station). We were still using a black and white TV and the signal was not good. Pittsburgh was not a good team yet and the announcers were making fun of them, basically saying that Joe Greene was the only good player on the team and using the joke about Bradshaw and spelling CAT. I was raised to root for the underdog, and like our local Blue Bombers, the Steelers were obviously the underdog if ever there was one so I started cheering for them. I haven't stopped.

No other city in the world has an area quite like the strip district... I'm originally from Bridgeville a born and raised Yinzer living in North Myrtle Beach SC and I get home to visit friends and family in Pittsburgh once a year.... my girlfriend is from NC and had never been north of Virginia Beach before and she has a very deep southern draw and always says y'all so I started messing with her and said the proper terminology is not y'all it's Yinz and she'd always say what's a Yinz nobody says that... so I took her home with me we flew in and rented a car and before she even had her 1st breath in town I took her smack into the strip district and grabbed her and pointed around and was you see this you see it THATS A YINZ... anyway I couldn't tell weather she was horrified or amazed anyway her jaw dropped in total shock and disbelief and the only thing that could come out from her mouth for the next 15 minutes as she got her bearings was I never seen anything like this... I hope and pray that during the draft this special part of town is showcased somewhat often throughout the draft
