      Sounds like stupid logic.
      1. Not everybody is the same.
      2. Get a second opinion on health matters. Not all doctors will have the same knowledge, let alone level of care. One of my docs is rather friendly as a person but he's not adequate for certain medical cases. He could have lead to the death of 2 people had they not seen another doctor. Doctors are human too, not perfect, and they work for the government in a manner of speaking. Just because there was one shady corporation, doesn't mean they all are.
      3. Be responsible, and use your brain. It is not impossible for something bad to happen in any location. These guys weren't too bright, splitting the party in a foreign land, and making assumptions. Had they stayed together, had they gone to look for their friend, had they gone during a time it wasn't so crowded... bit of forethought goes a long way.

When I was in the 6th grade for the first time in a couple of months my father took out his bike support off of his car. He never really knew why but he just decided to do it that day. The same day, less than a mile away from my school an idiot with a small truck crashed his vehicle onto ours, if any car crashed like this and my father was using the bike support nothing serious would have happened, but if that truck specifically did, the suppor would go through the driver's skull. So, my father saved him from his own mistake, but almost beat him to death, when I noticed my father was almost jumping at that man I grabbed his arm and cried, and he got even more pissed with the guy because I was crying but he stayed with me. However, not all medical schools require bioethics to be a prerequisite. It is an important class to take because so many medical doctors don't have that mindset for the patient, they like to experiment and having a patient to experiment on is their passion but not for the patient's wellbeing

Syphilis as you know can kill an entire community like it did on an island in Greece.
So just like the leopards in Hawaii , there were places where people with incurable disease could live in peace.
The original 1930 syphilis study was only for one year, to track it's spread rate. But no one believed how fast it spread, so they replaced the Doctors, and did it again and again.
The average spread rate in 1930 was 1 new infection from a known source every 10 years. In Macon it was 3 per year.

I know of a young man who died of syphilis in the last decade : He had every symptom of an untreated schizophrenic and kept getting locked up in the mental hospital - He was non-compliant . He told them the meds made him feel terrible and didn’t help . It wasn’t until months before his death at 27 , they realized he had syphilis and it was too late to treat him. Apparently, there are today pockets of syphilis outbreaks . I can’t imagine how many men contracted the disease after sleeping with him. As his mental health declined he became more and more sexually solicitous. Why it took so long for the hospitals to think to test for syphilis ? We’ll never know .
