  • First of all, sorry about my forehead being cut off! I didn't think it was worth re-doing the vid for that though. 😬
    I just got this beautiful vintage 60's Paiste 602 24" Ride and wanted to showcase it. It sounds very similar to LZ 2 IMO. Someone here sent me an email and kindly alerted me to the auction on eBay, and I couldn't pass it up. ( Thank you !!)
    I have another 602 24 similar to this but it cracked a while ago and I had the crack removed . It's still a great cymbal , but this one is in fantastic condition...it almost looks like new old stock! I play it here along with my other vintage 602's and talk a little about them. I'm looking forward to featuring it more in my vids. Also, new videos with PfoZ will be coming soon, and I'll be using this ride!
    Thanks for watching and please subscribe !

    We have more great video covers on the way!

    Those more flexible ride cymbals are a joy to play on. I feel like they're more manageable in terms of controlling it with the stick, and tend to always have a really nice wash. Beautiful cymbal, man.

    Ludwig Drums and Paiste Cymbals(what's not to love?). The cool, shimmering, glassy wash is unmistakably 602. I've always felt that the 602 line was 'colder sounding'(vs the 2002s). Especially the Crashes and Paperthins have a 'Wetter', 'Icier' attack/sustain/decay(like jumping into a alpine lake in February). And my 602 13" Sound-Edge HiHats look like they're spun from GOLD!(and cut through ANY mix!)
    My Friend, your Talent, Knowledge, and Generosity are ADMIRABLE!
    Grateful,
    Ted Furlo

    Paiste and I think all Zildjians have a clear coat on them. That's why some older Paistes with their higher copper content get so terribly brown or black once it is polished away or worn off. Not really so much with a Zildjian or a 602 which would have B20 bronze. To clean and polish it (lightly) and clear it or use Johnson floor wax which I have done will preserve the luster and not affect the sound. Rob Wood, a Paiste rep in the 80s told me about their coating.this is why color sounds were not a problem. They just needed to add dye to the lacquer although I do believe a heavier coat was needed for a consistent look.
    This cymbal sound GREAT! Kind of a thin old A Zildjian like sound. That's B20 for you. Love B8 too. Just different.

Has any cymbal ever sounded better?! I just paired my pre-serial 602 14 hi hat top with a modern Sabian HHX bottom and boy that's a great sounding combination. Funny you mentioned LZII. A couple years ago I got the reissue 24" 602, and it could've just been me wanting to be Bonham, but I was listening to the isolated track for What Is And What Should Never Be, comparing it with my lovely new ride, and it sounded almost exact to me.

    wow, I dig drums, but I'm 100x more into cymbals, and these sound killer. I am super into the crashes...both of em are really glorious. This ride is pretty awesome too....really sort of glowing tone compared to the one you usually use.
    And I learned 2 new things from this
    1) 602 vintage sound edge were made. I didn't think they made those (never looked into it, just assumed)
    2) Bonzo used 602s, which is the real shocker, because I always thought it was all Giant Beat or 2002, at least according to my memory of that cymbal receipt that's floating around the net. Which I just looked at again, and it does list some 602.
    And finally, to wrap up my long comment, are these the hats that you usually use?

    I'm not so sure.

    • @BONHAMOLOGY
      @BONHAMOLOGY  3 года назад +1

      Very possible. It's a beauty, but I don't think it would cut through loud live amplification. Great for recording and moderately loud settings. Great for jazz.

    • @BONHAMOLOGY
      @BONHAMOLOGY  3 года назад +1

      Also, if you notice ... Bonzo's ride isn't very distinct, live. Even on studio recordings, he never really had a pingy sound. Eventually he played a 2002 live after 75, but before that it was always 24" 602's or Giant Beats which aren't very cutting

    • @simonperry8569

      @@BONHAMOLOGY Great points. Our ears have probably become accustomed to a lot of modern rock drummers using the Zildjian ping ride and Custom As, which are pretty bright. These 60s rides tend to be washier and less pingy.
