I have been shaving with Dollar Shave Club for several years and I had no intention of changing until the first time I used Harry's. Harry's has great razors and the comparison is not very difficult
Best shave plan? Best shaving subscription? Harry's Vs Dollar Shave Club comparison. Best razors

Made at our
German factory
Today, more than four hundred German engineers, designers, and production workers build and operate sophisticated equipment that produces millions of precision-honed blades per year.
Creating a new standard
Quality razor blades are really hard to make, and historically a couple of major brands have controlled almost all of the world’s razor blade factories. They’ve used that position to earn huge profits by selling razor blades at really high prices. That changes today. We're proud to be able to make our own blades and sell them directly to you, and at a fair price.

This blade comes from the future a
Considering that this kid needs a week between shaves, I admire the dedication it took to complete this video.
I tried Harry's picked it up at Walmart and was somewhat excited to try it, I had been using Bic disposable blades for about a year by this point and they worked well enough to shave my head. I got home and looked on Amazon and everyone seemed to dislike the Harry's blades just complaining they where dull and didn't cut well or the first blade was amazing but every blade after that was a joke (kinda like giving you one high quality blade with lower quality replacements) either way I used it and I did enjoy it the blades where very smooth I don't think during the life of the two separate blades I even had remote razor burn or nick on my head/neck and was actually really impressed with them.
I did notice however the blades where rusting very quickly I've never had any razor rust on me but that seemed to be the point when the blades performance tanked. I tried cleaning it off and did a decent job at removing it on the first one. I got in the shower and went to use it and it felt like the razor was back to normal however while shaving half my head I went to feel if I missed any spot and it didn't remove anything lol (the razor was about 3 weeks old and 6 shaves in) I feel I most likely dulled the blade trying to remove the rust and grabbed the other blade and was good.
For about 2 weeks when this one rusted I just started trying them off with a hair drier when I was done (for those wondering why I need a hair drier if I shave my head I have a long beard and if you do not dry it fully ((at least for me) it curls like crazy and looks like a mess) so I towel try what I can and lightly blow dry the rest while brushing it and they helps keep my beard straight. Either way the second blade started rusted 2 weeks in and I shave my head twice a week (about every other shower) and I used it for a bit till it started tanking in performance.
For the price and the frequency I shave it just didn't make any sense to buy a refill since they where about the price of Gillette's at Walmart. Like I said I had been using Bic disposables for over a year $9-$11 for 12 blades and each one lasted roughly a month give or take a week so about 8 shaves. The Harry blades where by far the smoothest blades I've used to shave my head and I did enjoy them but not at $1.75 a shave before they started to rust. Beyond the rust I really have nothing to complain about them but I mean I went from $10-ish dollars a year on razors to $1.75 a shave made no sense.
I picked up Schick hydro and they where all right but the stuff the put for lubrication in the blades just started to slime like crazy in the shower while not giving me a close enough shave even with 2 passes just couldn't get the pressure without the head pushing back (lacked any real push back power as there is no real rebound to the blade when you move head back) still have that one in the shower now with a extra head in the drawer. I just purchased the DSC trial to see how that works out hopefully it does well.
How did DSC work out for you? I'm having a hard time finding a good razor myself.
I use the Harry's razors and the quality for the money is great. They are very smooth on the face and the feel of the handle is great too. I have no opinion on DSC as I have never used them.
He has the wrong DSC razor. A real comparison would be with the executive razor. It also has the single blade on the back.
so you would compare a mid tier razor (Harry's) with a high tier (DSC) razor? He used both mid tier offerings and made the correct comparison. Both Harry's and DSC have higher razors.
But its more expensive.
No he didn’t he used the same grade of razor that each company provides. You wouldn’t compare a low tier with a high tier
I agree 100%. I never really liked DSC (4x4 and Executive). I just used them because they were cheaper than Gillette Mach 3. Then I found Harry's and have never looked back at DSC or Gillette.
tylerk2374 thank you
I just received the $3 trial kit from Harry's and after watching this review(which was so honest and educated about both brands), i am going to upgrade my trial to a membership. I tried Gillette's razor with Harry's shave gel and Harry's razor with Gillette's shave gel and in both cases, Harry's surprised me positively.
For me personally, I made the switch from Gillette to Harry's. Never tried DSC but everything mentioned in the video about Harry's razors are accurate. Harry's is definitely a superior razor for a fraction of the cost. I will be a Harry's customer for a long time. You can still order blades online or you can go to your local Wal-Mart or Target, among other retail stores & purchase Harry's razors & products as needed depending on your preference of how often you shave. Harry's even makes hygiene products now. Harry's is a winner!
I jumped on the DSC bandwagon when they came out. I use the 4x. I have so many leftover boxes of cartridges, I canceled my service. Dad gifted me a Harry's Truman set. Worked great! No complaints. I have too many DSC blades to still go thru, like 10 boxes. Once those are gone, i will re-evaluate the 2.
harrys looks more classy ;)
Absolutely.
I worked 2 Years in the Factory in Germany. Its like Slavery.
You worked in the Harry's Factory?
Skullking489
Yes. Years Ago. It wasnt Harrys back in the Time but its still the same today.
Bogo366 well it's not slavery if you get payed
thanks, very informative. I am a Dollar Shave Club subscriber but will give Harry's a try. Keep posting.
2 years since you posted this, what are you using now?

I’ve always used Harry’s (still have my handle if I want to switch back lol), but Dollar Shave Club isn’t that bad either. Harry’s has the edge if I were to choose one over the other. I’m currently using Dollar Shave Club after curiosity 😄. I give the extra nod to Harry’s!
I have had Harry's for over 6 months. Best money you'll ever spend for shaving plus the way you set up your frequency you'll never run out of blades, when your low the next package always arrives which beats running to the store really quick.
Thank you for that review. I can tell you are very honest in your review and I like that and you have me sold on the Harry's system just by your comments from the first shave. Thank you for an honest and informative review.
The same scenario happened to me. I've been a DSC member for a couple years. Decided to give harrys a try. Instantly sold. The blades shave my face and head smoothly. Canceled my DSC asap.
Pico I think I am headed in that direction. Been with DSC for many years and have more blades that I can count. Just picked up a kit from Harry's at Target and need to give it a try.
Cesar Cortez could you tell me you experience with harrys razors did you make the switch :-)
LOGAN HOLT yes
Harry's has consistently good products and everything I've tried from them has been great. From hair products to shave products.
I have not tried/used Harry’s razors and handles, but been very happy with Dorco/DSC 4 and 6 blade razor cartridges!
I prefer the 4 blade cartridges as those cartridges clean out the cut facial and beard hairs MUCH better than the 6 blade cartridges, which tend to clog more often.
I get smooth nick-free shaves from either cartridge using DSC’s slightly heavier Executive handle.
I am trying out Dorco’s Pace Power Handle with my Dorco/DSC blades and I find a get a smoother, less irritating shave with the vibrating blades from the power handle.
Do not think I get a closer shave using the power blade Handle, but my shaves with the DSC 4 blade cartridge and power handle were, definitely, smoother and was better feeling on my face.
I, also, like DSC’s Dr. Carver’s clear Shave Butter for more precise shaving and comfort!
If you run the blades in reverse against your arm 10 times every time you use it, stays sharp for months. Normally you pull to shave, to sharpen you push opposite direction on your arm, mind the trimmer blade on Harry's so you don't cut yourself by mistake.
Lol you really believe that?
@@Mikey-ym6ok sure I do it all the time.
thanks for taking your time to make that video. great review!
I’ve been using Harry’s for about 5 months now, and I previously used DollarSC for nearly a year. In my opinion, Harry’s is way better, I love the shave gel, the razors, the handle and the protection. Im a guy that shaves just about everywhere except my arms, head and eyebrows. Harry’s is just fantastic and the price is hard to beat. Blades last way longer than dollar shave club and they just have always felt smoother. DollarSC only has a decent quality shave for maybe the first 2 or 3 shaves, even then I’d still get a few cuts or razor bumps here and there. Harry’s blades last (to me at least) twice as long and nick me way less often. I’ve seen a very noticeable decrease in ingrown hairs and razor bumps as a result of using Harry’s as well.
The only product I prefer from DSC is the shave butter, but every other Harry's product is superior. I'm glad more stores are carrying their brand so I can grab em while I'm shopping for other stuff.
Appreciate the opinion on Harry's. I recently paused my dsc subscription since I accumulated too many cartridges. I'll give Harry's a try in a month or so.
Ha I'm the opposite. I was with harry for 6 months when I decided to give dsc a try. Came in the mail last week. So far....Harry's is clearly the superior shave. But dsc is cheaper.
Always good to try what else is out there. Spoil of options for us guys today!
Using both I too canceled my DSC. I do like dsc balm better but hey, I want a razor not lotion. Tit for tat DSC went down in quality due to being bought out. Harry’s is still privately owned. Quality over quantity.
You are right my friend Target also sells Harry 15 for eight blades and 9 dollar for the handle with two cartridges
Nice review... signed on to Harrys yesterday but then started thinking maybe I should have went with DSC cause theyre cheaper but after watching your video, Im glad I went with Harrys
i love the Harry's razors. the handle and the smoothness of the tilt on the head is really amazing to me. i got the plastic handle but i'm thinking of getting the metal one for a more gentleman look.
Yes, can't be much more classy than having your initials on a high quality metal razor blade..
Need to give my wife idea for Christmas ;-)
I decided on Harry's and I haven't been disappointed. I receive blades and shave gel every 3 months. Well worrh it.
The issue with Harry's is not the blade itself, but the body around the blade. The pivot/bend points break off over time when the blades are still good. Then the head flops around.
Thanks for this review, validates my purchase yesterday
Can never go wrong with Four Points. Great, video as always.
All my life I have been using a electric razor. Is there a considerable difference in the shave when compared to that of a manual razor like Harry's? Also for Harry's how long did the blade heads last?
Ive been using harry's for about 2 months now, i used to use gillette which was wayy expensive so i ditched it (especially after the advert they madeXD) Anyway, Harry's a great, especially the shave gel, just bear in mind to take it slow when you use harrys, those 5 blades can easily cut you if you get to cocky!!
I just started using Harry's and like the blades, but not a big fan of the shave gel so I'm going to try their cream and see how that goes. As always you do very good reviews so please keep it up.
I tried Dollar Shave Club for a several months. I thought I could save money as Gillette blades are pretty expensive. I noticed that my shaves with the Dollar Shave Club took longer as the blades aren't as sharp and they'd dull at a much faster rate. I think I changed blades after only about 4-5 uses, so 4 blades didn't even last a month. On the contrary, Gillette blades, though expensive, usually last at least a month, so five blades equal about five months. I've since switched back to Gillette, but I might give Harry's a try.
A good safety razor using double edge blades provides a far, far better shave and you can get the very best blade for less than >25 cents a blade opposed to the far greater cost of any multiblade cartridge razor. More blades is NOT a better shave. And while you are at it, get rid of the interior foam in a can and make your own wonderful lather with a brush in a cup or bowl.
Go with the older traditional safety razor and great DE blades now available along with superior lather and you will experience a new and improved shaving experience far better than you thought possible. If you have not tried it, you have no idea what you are missing.
The moral of the story is a safety razor is the way to go. No type of shave comes close. I travel often and always find a way to carry it.
You should look into a subscription of Bevel and do a review on that.
sivan ferna yea same, i bought a safety razor and then realised that my facial hair couldnt shave off properly and now the product is just sitting there.
I want to try Harry because when I shave I getting razor bumps real bad and I break out so I want to know is it really legit before I spend my money
I used Harrys for two years and then tried Gillette 5. The Gillette blade gives me a closer shave.
I use Harry's and love all the products, after watching this video I will keep using harry's.
Merkur safety razor, Feather blades, Triuifit and Hill, 18O5 shaving soap, Perfecto Shaving brush. A much cheaper and better way to go! About a 50 cent a day shave.
Feather blades $40 per Hundred! My Merkur safety razor $40, mine is twenty years old looks New.
I get four shaves per blade
The very best blades for shaving are Feather or Astra brands And they are Not expensive! Personally, I think Feather is slightly sharper.
My boyfriend used Harry's and hated it and even I tried it and I hated it. To me, it was worse than Gillette and Schick. I just got him DSC razor so I guess we'll see if he likes how it shaves.
A great safety razor that will last many years is the Merkur model MK 34c....its only about $35.00.
And I love dsc. Everything I use beside beard oil (because they don't sell it)I get from them. The shave butter is amazing. Better than any shave gel or cream out there. And on bottle of it last a long time. A little goes a long way. I've never used Harry's they seem like good razors but dsc offers more products and is super convenient.
Thanks for the in depth and well thought out comments. As somebody switching from the big brands I appreciate the effort you put into your review. I'm assuming your thoughts on Harry's vs Dollar Shave Club still stand in 2018. Cheers!
And there you have it. Thank you for a good review.
I love Harry's products and the website makes ordering a breeze. I have no desire to try DSC - even the name is off-putting to me. Seeing the cheap plastic razors in this video just confirms my devotion to Harry's.
Great video. Simple and to the point. I appreciate the feedback.
I was a second generation
Gillette razors user, but after the attack on Alpha Males with their infamous commercial my family of 6, four of us being men, never bought any Gillett products again and never will. We switched to Schick Razors. I was going to now switch to Harry's, but have heard that they also are a "woke" and liberal company which leads me to subscribe to DSC. Is Harry's a liberal company?
@FBI - Federal Bereau of Investigation Not all, thank +God+. We will continue to seek out Enlightened firms to buy from across the board.
The DSC says they have a trimmer on the back of their blades. So this may be something new they just started. But ive got my trial offer from both coming and will compare.
Philo Beddoe what did you go with?
Very informative and concise! Thanks Brother, Harry's for the win me thinks also.
Would have liked to see in compared to the 6 blade dollar shave...or dorco 6...same thing. As it is the model that compares to the Harrys 5 blade.
Thorough though. Good job.
Man really wishes i watched your video before i got my starter pack from DSG. Well atleast it was 5$, gonna give harrys a try after this starter pack.
How'd it go?
@@Atlas92936 actually havnt tried harrys, kind of fell in love with DSC. Im on the 2 blade razor with DSC and its the best shave i came across. But now im seeing DSC all over the stores lol
Yep, I'm trying Harry's
Just watching this now. Do you still feel the same way almost 3 years later? I'm looking to ditch Gillette and looking for something better. Thanks!
i used dollar shave club and it is wayyyyy better then anything like Gillette. It blew me away. Try a DSC $5 starter set its worth it. I havent used harrys though
Jasperlito do you get razor bumps from it I’m using it currently and I’m getting razor burns and bumps,I also hydrate before then use prep then butter than after shave I also got with the grain but I always get those bumps and burns
Tremayne use Harry’s.
Harry’s is German blades and DSC is Israeli made blades. Honestly I’ve been using a safety razor for years and any of these feel like heaven. It honestly doesn’t matter.
Got Harry’s over dsc for the looks alone. Will never understand why razor companies make their razors look like a toy you might get in a happy meal or at Chuck e cheese.
Harry's blades last me 3 days. After the first shave they are shit
For someone living in Australia, the biggest problem with Harrys is they don't allow Australians to use their service. :(
Friend do you like defender razor? Is excellent razor for face and the head.i shave my head with gillette fusion proshield flexball chill and defender razor. Harry's is excellent razor, but for my head i prefer defender and Gillette fusion proshield flexball chill. I use creams or soaps with brush. Taylor of old bond street, proraso, art of shaving, cella, rasorock. For my head i don't use shaving gel or foam. I prove for my head dorco pace 6 plus, the same dollar shave club, but i don't like.defender or gillette fusion proshield flexball chill they are another level. Harry's is good
Dollar shave club is Dorco. But I disagree with your assesment of Dollar shave club. I have the dorco pace 6 plus and it shaves bettet than harrys
Is Dorco a razor company? Dollar Shave Club doesn't operate in my country but would like to try them
I use Harry's razors. You can get them now at Target. No need to sign-up for anything.
I still don't understand what you can do with the edging blade that the main blades can't do...
Harry’s is sooo nice but I still wanna try dollar shave club
I love my dollar shave club, maybe I will check out Harrys. My dollar shave club is twenty dollars a month. So I'm looking.
Enjoyed listening..very helpful in making a decision...Thanks
Awesome video , very clear review. I like 💯
The reason I choose Harry’s, it’s because they ship to my country and there fantastic :D
Aren’t Harry’s blades kinda heavy though????
I would love to hear about your straight razor shaving experience and products. I use a safety razor for my daily and Harry's for travel by I'm considering switching to a straight razor for daily and would love to know what you use
I mostly use the Baxter of California products across the board- prep scrub, badger hair brush, after shave- but have been looking to get a new straight razor. the one I have now is nice but can use an upgrade. It's a basic Dovo Solingen blade with a plastic handle which I bought to evaluate if I would use a straight razor long term (was still $120!) but now that I know it's something I will continue to do I am thinking about buying a new one that will be my "life" blade which will probably run me >$250 with wood/tortoise handle. Will consider this, it's always something I have wanted to talk about!
Good job.
Think I'll try Harry's.
I have been a Braun faithful user since my first electric razor in college..... have you experienced a Braun shave ? I'm a fan but, do keep a backup of 2 Henry razors for those occasions when my foil tears....
2:45, unfortunately, this is not true. DSC takes Dorco blades and marks them up about 3 fold
Wish he had the executive dollar shave razor wouldve been a better review for me since thats the one most people get
Very informative! Thanks for the advice!
Hey bro try the defender razor, I use for my head,my face!amazing! The same but only for headshave headblade moto and products! Defender 😉
Is Harry's the same as it use to be now that you can buy them at Target now ?
I think this is the first time I've seen you in a regular t shirt. I could be wrong though.
I came here for haven after seeing a horrendous commercial!
@ The Kavalier: Very informative, thanks bro!
DSC Executive is not good, I was kind of shocked how bad they are. RUclipsr's are shilling these like mad
one badass safety razor handle - 30 bucks, 100 platinum blades - 24.99, two pucks of motherbear shave soap - 14.99 last time I invested in shaving supplies? 2 years ago. Shave like your grandpa did. save money and get a superior shave.
I seen my share of DESIGN razor videos.
I don't like them. You have to use them in a more precise manner. The shave is slower. Nicking is more of an issue.
No thanks!
I'll stick to less expensive cartridge razor alternatives and solutions found with Dorco/DSC and Harry’s!
Enfurno shut up no one cares double edge people always trying to tell people what to do
Pete Burrows except when you’re in a hurry... I shave because AFI 36-2903, not for pleasure.
@@itzzAssassiN I actually just picked up de shaving because of that gillette ad and my sensitive skin.
I love DE, there is a learning curve but I picked it up really quickly. Shaving felt like rubbing sandpaper across my skin to feeling effortless.
Just tried using traditional barbasol and it still worked but some of the irritation came back but it could have been the more aggressive razor.
Anyways I highly recommend it for those of you with sensitive skin.
I've been trying Harry's but they give me razor burn. I was thinking about trying DSC but after watching your video and seeing the comments I think I'm grudgingly going back to Gillette. :(
Jim Myrah Dollar shave club all the way.
Humble twin blade, prep scrub, shave butter, and post shave dew. You’ll be in great shape!
Are the blades "flexible" "bendable" like Gillette Fusion Razor Blades?
Tried a Harry’s razor. Hurt like hell. Blades were super dull
Could you do a straight razor video? I always wanted to get into it since I've heard it doesn't leave much razor burn and less in grown hairs.
I use Harry’s when I’m in a hurry and travel. The safety razor is the way to go if you have time. I use both, but the safety razor Definitely is a closer shave and less razor burn.
Dollar club can it be used with aDE blade
My first issue with Harry's is.... a well DESIGNED product doesn't justify overcharging for an average (AT BEST) product. Almost $8 (AT WALMART) for the Shave Cream with Eucalyptus is a complete scam. Secondly, adding Eucalyptus to hand lotion doesn't magically turn it into "Shave Cream" (i'm guessing the name Shave Glue was already taken). If you think this is too harsh, then you either haven't used the product or you work for Harry's. There is no 'glide' factor with the cream and not even a hint of foam (which lubricates the razor and makes the blades glide over your face more easily). i will credit Harry's Shave Cream for making me much more appreciative for my orange capped sensitive skin Schick Edge gel. Buh-bye Harry's... forever.
How do you clean blades after using them
I have the Harry's shaving cream and like it a lot, but i have a recurring issue of the container leaking and getting covered in foam in between my shaves. Anyone else experience this or did I just get a defective bottle.
Why didn't you compare DSC EXECUTIVE to Harry's? Ughh...
At the time these were the most comparitive price points. Has changed since then. Time for an update?
@@The_Kavalier yeah probably
My only real issues with the Harry's gel is it seems drying.
I'm a Harry's guy amazing shave
I started with Harry's after a few years discovered their blades were better when they began. Now the blades don't last as long.
Not avaliable anywhere that isnt US, UK and canada
That's the best blue T-shirt I've ever seen. Where did you get that?
Shirt in the Video - Woolly Clothing: bit.ly/2emlDdR (ending)
Thanks.
Single blade double edge razors have been around for more than 100 years. A better shave, and much less expensive compared to Gillette, Schick, Harry’s, or DSC. Yes, there is a learning curve, yes you must be careful, take a few minutes more. BUT: less razor rash, no ingrown hairs. Look on the web for instructional videos. I learned on DE, drifted to the multiblades ( even tried electric), before returning to real shaving 5 years ago.
Well you did get the cheaper razor from dollar shave club
Thanks dude! I have the higher tier dollar shave club the "executive" and that has the single blade on the back but when I use it 8 times out of 10 i cut myself. I'm going to try Harry's because of the quality of blade! Thank you very much!!!!!
Also, Harry's blades are so sharp, they tug a lil 1st 2 times of use, after they break in, no tugging.
