    As a Kiwi that try reminds a lot of the late Jonah Lomu .. blinding speed, very deceptive sidestep, power and strength in fending off tackles, sheer determination to beat opponents. Such an exceptional talent.

      @@Mike5612Skate Pool B will be very tough, but such is the nature of WC, either you make it on the day or you not good enough to win the trophy... Hopefully Scotland has a great 6 nations and takes out Ireland in March and the way Italy got so close to beating France should mean Scotland in with a great chance... over all I reckon we in for an incredibly competetive World Cup with any of the top 9 being able to win on the day vs the rest... would be great if Japan pull a suprise vs England and France beat the All Blacks.... I was in France for the All Blacks game in 2007... was brilliant.... not at the stadium but a village pub in the Alps..

    The top down aerial view is interesting as you see VDM choose to run away from the big gap towards the England player, probably to keep him stationary and not gain any momentum before darting away last minute. Such clever play

    His foot-work is so good along with long-stride and fast cadence, then throw in size/strength to fend off high tackles at the end to make the distance.

Cf Christian Cullen, who did have "a long Stride" and a significicant side step. Physics does not change on the sports field, no matter how excited we are by seemingly "incredible" feats of mechanics. The hysteria here is like a Boy band concert of teenage girls; embarrassing hyperbole and wet trousers.

      That's not the whole story. Physics involves the speed and force of the #8 attempting to tackle van Der Merwe. Let's not ascribe all the work to the winger, although it was indeed a freakish try. Sport is replete with chance and randomness, ie LUCK. This footage is further proof of that.

    Van der Merwe was born and grew up in George in the Western Cape province of South Africa. He attended and played rugby for Hoërskool Outeniqua, earning several provincial colours by representing the SWD Eagles at youth tournaments. In 2011, he represented SWD at the Under-16 Grant Khomo Week held in Queenstown, appearing in all three matches and scoring a try in their 25-8 victory over KwaZulu-Natal.[2]

    Just noticed a couple of things I indvertantly missed during the alcohol fuelled celebration.
    1. The Ref doesn't shout "Advantage Over" following Russell's knock on.
    2. There's defo a "passive" block where Duhan breaks 1st line of defence. - (not sure it made any difference).
    Nothing can detract however from a wonderful individual Try scored by a remarkable athlete. The media are rightfully creaming themselves over this. Would we as an audience not rather watch this type of play over endless scrums ?
    Lastly - my thanks to Dombrandt for missing a tackle he really should have made. But for that we might not be watching this again and again and again.
