What are the Signs and Symptoms of Vitamin B5 Deficiency?
Vitamin B5 - AKA pantothenate or pantothenic acid is a water soluble vitamin that is essential for human function.
vitamin B5 deficiency is a common cause of irritable bowel like symptoms. In addition, a lack of this nutrient can cause reduced immune function, adrenal burnout, fatigue, headache, and neuropathy (burning pain in feet).
Vitamin B5 fuels the adrenal glands and aids in the production of cortisol. Cortisol is the body's natural hormone designed to regulate sleep, blood sugar, and inflammation.
Vitamin B5 is needed to generate energy and produce the neurotransmitter acetylcholine.
Symptoms of vitamin B5 deficiency include:
Headaches, chronic pain, increased allergies, acne, premature graying of the hair, fatigue, and inability to cope with stress.

I've had bowel problems since I was a small child and diagnosed with Crohn's disease at 13. I've had 8 major bowel surgeries and and know I can no longer absorb B12 and require monthly injections, so I worry I'm deficient in B5 and other vitamins...and you've just described every symptom I've been having. You've confirmed what I've thought for quite awhile but my doctor says all my blood work looks normal. I've read that B5 in high doses can cause digestive upset so I plan to start low and work my way up to a dose I can tolerate. The only thing I worry about is absorption, will I be able to absorb enough B5 with all the scar tissue from multiple surgeries?
Thank you for explaining this in a way that most people will be able to understand, keep up the good work.

Judith Fine-Sarchielli too much is bad for you. The right amounts and right time helps us wake in the morning and go to sleep at right times too much because of chronic stress wreaks havoc on our bodies. Being deficient in b5 can cause this upset thus resulting in inability to deal with stress which in turn raises cortisol levels this also causes weight gain in midsection. This is my understanding of how it works, please take with a grain of salt.

Concerning Adrenal glands, could this deficiency also cause benign tumors on the adrenal gland, which I have?? I have been chronically stressed over the last 6 years, losing 5 loved ones, and other issues. Also, some of the "calming" herbs actually increase my adrenaline, having the opposite effect. I have a bottle of standardized pantothenic acid. I notice it helps my nerves. Definitely going to start taking it again.

I don't even eat food now, and was always malnourished and in the hospital constantly while eating just food. Now, I just take those vitamins and have healed so much. They are raw and your body can absorb them, unlike the usual vitamins. Good luck!

Can anyone tell me if higher doses of vitamin b5 is allowed during pregnancy. Previously before I was pregnant I used 2000mg of b5 which was 2 tablets with every meal to combat the symptoms and since becoming pregnant I cut down to 1 tablet a day but I feel I may be depriving my body of the what it needs. Some of my symptoms like headaches insomnia and acne have started to come back. And I believe most of it is due to chronic inflammation and stress. What do women with a deficiency do when pregnant?

Hello, This is a great video and thanks for posting it. One question though . Can a person be not absorbing or poorly absorbing the B-5 from the foods he is eating that otherwise should be B-5 rich...like eggs, avocadoes, broccoli even some liver? I have every symptom you listed including the neuropathy. Overstressed too easily. Am also Vitamin D deficient. I eat very little gluten containing foods. Mostly whole foods and considerable amounts of foods you mention. I also had turned in a hair sample last month that showed I was B-5 deficient. Thanks so much for this video. It's a serious eye opener for myself

    • @frankenz66
      @frankenz66 6 лет назад +1

Had a test showing the levels of pantothenic acid last month, and it was quite low. 50 ng/mL . 275 ng/mL or less is the levels the established medical field says is normal. Am around 18% of normal. Insurance would not pay for an assay that you mention because I am not totally depleted. As you know they won't do anything that would actually help you often enough. I even said I would pay for that assay myself, and somehow the doctor's office would not send it in. I even signed a release saying I would pa for the assay $215.00 they did not send it on because I was still in the normal limits.

I'm confused. B5 will increase the production of cortisol (an immune suppressor). My understanding is that cortisol decreases most immunoglobulins including IgE (a mediator in inflammation and allergy). This should therefore result in an increased susceptibility to infection but, as you mentioned, a decrease in allergy and inflammation.

Although animal food sources are good, the following plant based sources are excellent: shiitake mushroom crimini mushroom cauliflower. Very good sources: sweet potato broccoli beet greens asparagus turnip greens bell peppers cucumbers and celery

Can pantothenic acid increase your appetite? Or cause weight gain?

Great channel! Thank you very much! My quesrion is: since B5 increases cortisol, does it cause people to gain weight?

i dont think thats how it works. i rather would think of it like supporting cortisol production. so if you body needs it it can produce it. but dont take my word for it.

I think it’s more about balancing your cortisol. Not too much or not enough.

It does not increase it. The body needs it to make steroid hormones. The rest goes out with pee. The putitary gland is responsible for the amount of cortisol that is produced.

@Dr. Osborne , a friend of mine experiences symptoms of hypoglycemia which also resolve with food or sugar but he does not have hypoglycemia in blood. when testing its always like 90 to 110 mg/dl . in general his sugar readings seam quite fine, no sign of diabetes.
    what could it be?
