Mostly agree, Charles. Have you heard Víkingur Ólafsson's rendition? Those deep octave explosions on his left hand are astonishingly bell-like, to my ear. Also, he pauses a microsecond before each, giving it special nuance, I think.
Never heard anything like it! You can never be too old ( I'm 65!) to be totally blown away by such an incredible artist-I've got to get a recording of the Etudes played by Yuja Wang-and explore other stuff by her too,, Oh Man-life is so, so good!
I'm playing this piece, too. There's a great recording by Vikingur Olafsson of all Glass-etudes. Hearing Yuja playing this piece live in Aix en Provence two years ago I was surprised like not often before in my musical life. She really makes MUSIC playing this etude! Now I must practise, practise, practise... Thank you, Yuja, for the inspiration! ❤

To anyone who feels this music is inadequate for Miss Wang's level of skill, let me say this. Just because you don't understand the music, doesn't mean it's unworthy. Don't apply your biases to art, and don't be afraid to admit you just don't "get" it.

It’ll probably not happen, but I’d love to hear her rendition of the other 19 Glass etudes. Numbers 2, 11, 12, 16, and 20 would probably sound great with her magic touch.
On the CD, Glass' Etude is preceded by a fantastic and maybe even violent piece by Ligeti called L'escalier du diable. To go from that to Glass was a glorious experience.
Miss Yuja Wang! The complete package- the excellent dress code, the brilliant technical dexterity and the intense musical expression! For those who don't know she also has the most unique bow at the end of a performance. Its a shame this clip does not show the fantastic usual Yuja bow after the piece!

I think Vikingur Olafssons interpretation is better than Yujas. They are both good but Vikingur has a more distinct touch.
