    So you're the producer, director, camerman, focus puller, lighting tech, sound recordist, editor and sound mixer, not to mention researcher, caterer, transport manager, and maintenance tech.
    Not only that but you're very good at all of them, I am very impressed.

    Enjoying your videos on prime over here in the states. Reminds of when I lived on Deep Seas down in the FL keys. She was a beautiful 33’ wooden double ended cutter built in DeGanwy N. Wales by Williams and Parkenson in 1937.

    CountryHouseGent is my hero! A fully one man operation, clever, informative, relaxing, and beautifully executed! Open, honest and shares his trade secrets. I hope to one day make my way to England from the US to hire a narrow boat for a week or so. I’ve always dreamed of living on a powered boat on the coast somewhere and I’m quite jealous of the U.K. for having such an extensive and well maintained canal system. Keep it up Kevin and safe travels mate! Cheers!

      This. I discovered it at about the same time and have watched all the episodes. So calming, relaxing, such beautiful countryside, and very interesting. At the beginning I was worried about the production level being a fully one man operation and seeming slightly amateur for an Amazon Prime show, but it works so well! CountryHouseGent is my hero!

    So impressed with the Travels by Narrowboat. I’m living vicariously through you! Keep it up. Please! Did I hear you say a 5th season? Can’t wait. I now want to quit my job, sell my house, buy my own boat and bring my guitar. I’d moor up for an acoustic jam session with ya anytime. And don’t cut your hair! Rock n roll! ;) Power to the people and all that jazz.

    Got to be a first; disclosing your "secrets" for success. You forgot to mention not saturating video with (annoying) music and showing (dire) speeded up video fau pas. As you rightly state content over quality (and part of the valuable content is ironically the quality, not least the video editing expertise on presenting that content ) and great sounding engine. Keep on keeping on; you seem to be thriving on it and remain my favourite ditch vlogger.

    It's amazing how people can dislike this video after seeing how hard you work to make this whole vlog possible. It takes very little ability to criticise. The quality of this footage is very good indeed, and well put together, on another note it seems strange watching on Amazon Prime we do cos we love the vlog. Thanks CHG

    • @theotherstevesteve
      @theotherstevesteve 5 лет назад +2

      A lot of people honestly think the dislike button is simply to tune the type of content they receive; they entirely overlook the human factors.
      Edited to add: not to mention I manage to hit the damned thing by accident.

    • @CountryHouseGent
      @CountryHouseGent  5 лет назад +5

      As Huey Lewis And The News said, "The dislike button, is a curious thing, make a one man weep, make another man sing ..."
      At that point the comparison becomes rather tenuous as the dislike button has no actual 'power', other than contributing towards a video's performance on RUclips, in a positive way.
      Yes, 'all' viewer interaction contributes to a video's popularity (yes really, Google it). Not to mention that each view of a video is, er, one extra view. Lovely 😍
      With this in mind, the obvious course of action if trying to effect how a video performs, is to not watch it in the first place? 🤔 😁
      Don't believe me? In that case, please 'do' continue to keep disliking the videos I post. I appreciate the support.
      So in all honesty, I'd like to take this opportunity to publicly thank my loyal band of dislikers (and they are, mainly, loyal subscribing regulars), for their enthusiastic and continual support - and helping, in some minor and practically insignificant way, towards making this channel what it is today. You're awesome. 😍
      Cheers guys/gals

We discovered you on Amazon and searched you out on Facebook and here on RUclips. I'm sure you may already know but if you have extended memory in your Canon when the internal memory is full it does not cascade onto the next card when the internal is full, all you get is a flash up on the screen saying memory full, you then have to manually select the next memory location, on mine means when you switch off the camera at any time and then switch on again it defaults to the internal memory (that's every time!), why they did not make it automatically cascade I don't know!), it has caught me out a few times when I have not had my glasses on while filming which meant I was chatting away recording nothing!, I lost some great footage through this, very annoying, I don't want to try & teach you how to suck eggs and such but thought it may be of interest, it only comes into being a problem if you record long sessions though.

    • @CountryHouseGent
      @CountryHouseGent  5 лет назад

      Cheers for the tip Albert, but they got rid of the internal memory with the G26. I have it set to swap from card A to B and it keeps the setting when turning off and on.

    Brilliant Kevin, how long would this video of taken to edit? For those of us uneducated, what is "encoding"?

    • @CountryHouseGent
      @CountryHouseGent  5 лет назад +2

      All in the editing took around 4 hours. Add around 2 hours in total setting up and filming the various scenes. Another hour for uploading and typing description, tags and links to RUclips and social media.
      Encoding is the process of the editing software turning all of the clips, cuts, fades, audio and so on (the edit), into a single file - in this case an MP4, about 1GB in size. This takes about 20 - 25 minutes.
      All in from start to finish, about 7 - 8 hours. 😴
      In production terms, this sort of video is fairly straightforward. An episode kind of video is more involved. A typical episode of Travels by Narrowboat takes about a week of filming and a week of editing.
      My black and white "Canal Boating For Beginners", took six weeks from start to finish. The Middlewich Xmas special was 4 weeks.

    Kev, in these unscrupulous days in which we live is it a good idea to inform those that do nasty deeds the jewels within your home. Now I know you are just being informative which is ok, but you have to be aware of the fact of how you live and where you live. It's dodgy out there so keep your wits and your jewels to yourself. Am I being paranoid ?, yes maybe but paranoia is a good thing because it keeps you aware of your situation........

    Very good Kevin, A similar set up to myself, I have the older Canon Legria HF G25 which does not have the new rocker zoom switch or movable eye piece plus lens cover but the CMOS is what makes them good cameras, I also use Cyberlink power director a first class bit of software, I did upgrade to the latest version but unless you need 360 editing and a few more things as you say "17 will do the job!", I don't know if you are interested but there is a guy who does videos which are well worth a watch, link ruclips.net/channel/UCj1NjLNgrF6yn_GINPcfrwQ many a good tip, that's a good price on the usb memory storage, I will have a look for those, I have not used that fade in and out option so will give that a try, great and interesting video.

      Hello Albert and very very good to hear from you. ☺ I never knew you were into the video side of things, just photography. These G series video cameras are so well made and go on and on. As you say, the CMOS is what makes it. Very recognisable Canon colors. Reminds me of my old 350D DSLR.

      @@CountryHouseGent Yes I do some videoing for a local history group around Northwich, I also have a Canon G9x which I carry when out with the bicycle, good sound and good quality on the video, only trouble I have with it is on full zoom it seems to not focus (I need to RTFManual a bit more!!!), hope things are going well with the preparations for the sea crossing!! (unless you have already done it) or will it be CHG reporting from south America!!! ha ha. p.s I had a look at the memory storage best I could see was about £73! on Amazon and E bay, I have several storage drives running into many terra bites (15!) but seem to fill them quite quickly, I lost a lot once when a new hard drive went poof many hours of footage gone, hence I now double back up stuff hence the amount trouble is Windows can only handle up to 2 Terra bites it seems, Mac does not have that problem so I'm told, take care on the trip.
