      I'm not sure why they did it like that, I believe for most the weight is on the right side and the timer on the left, perhaps by order of importance. having the power (tare) on the right also wouldn't make much sense.. so I think this is the best way. Also, by logic, you'd have everything tared, you'd be ready to go and just need to press T manually to start the timer which is next to the grams so easier control there. I guess there are arguments on both sides. Timemore, Acaia scale is exactly like this.

    The double tare to remember the coffee dose is nice.
    Stupid question (maybe), if you record the coffee dose, is there a way, when you remove the filter with the wet coffee bed, that the scale gives you the true ratio or weight in the cup? (What I mean by that is: water you poored - (coffee weight+absorbed water)= output)

    • @GadgetsGearCoffee
      @GadgetsGearCoffee  11 месяцев назад +1

      The ratio is coffee dose: coffee dose (with pour over that's just total water with espresso that's coffee in the cup until you remove the cup to stop).
      It doesn't differentiate the wet coffee bed. Why would you want that? Pretty sure coffee recipes work the way this scale records ratios

    • @REMY.C.
      @REMY.C. 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@GadgetsGearCoffee thanks for the answer, I was asking because the quantity of the product in the cup depends on the water absorption of the ground coffee and other variables. When I brew (filter) even if I follow the same recipe I don't end up with the same quantity in cup. It can vary by many grams and unlike espresso is not constant. There are some brew scales that have kind of a suspended filter holder that doesn't take into consideration the wet coffee. It only weigh in the liquid in the cup.
      Let's say you have a recipe that calls for 250 water to 25g coffee. With most scales, if you put in let's say 250 on the ground coffee you'll get i.e 200 in the cup but it will vary. With a suspended filter holder, you pour water UNTIL you get 250g of final product in the cup.
      That's why I was asking, part of trying to understand all the techniques.

    • @GadgetsGearCoffee
      @GadgetsGearCoffee  11 месяцев назад

      @@REMY.C. interesting. I haven't pushed my pour over that much but when I did I just went with the total water. Probably a no no but at the end when I was done brewing I'd push compress the coffee bed to push the rest of the water out

      @GadgetsGearCoffee the flair pro doesn't have the typical portafilter, and has a 46mm basket, it used to be the flagship device before the 58 came to be. If it will, then the cell goes to "sleep" or is so dead it won't take a charge anymore, and even if you manage to charge it, the capacity will be so slow that it unusable.
      As bonus I used the calibrating weight to check the accuracy 10g, 20g, 50g, 100g was plus minus OK. But the higher you go the more inaccurate. The 500g weight was showing +0.9g. The 2000g weight about 2g more. For comparison, I used another two cheaper scales and they were 100% accurate.

      @@-Vee_ It doesn't literally die, it just puts wear on the battery if you completely discharge it. If you keep doing it over and over, it will die. All consumer electronics are like this: for the least wear, you want to keep it around 80% charge as much as possible. Leaving it fully charged also wears the battery. It's not a huge deal, most people ignore this and it's fine, your battery just won't live quite as long. It's not going to just randomly stop working or go to "sleep".

    Hi,
    Great video!
    What's the accuracy of the scale?
    My current budget one has a problem that it's measuring different weights depending on where do I put my portafilter for instance. It's very inaccurate if the weights are on the side of the scale. Did you experience such behaviour with this one?

    • @GadgetsGearCoffee
      @GadgetsGearCoffee  10 месяцев назад

      I haven't tested it out and unfortunately I do not have a calibrated weight but when it comes to your particular question, I did have this noted down from another review from this scale: “It's fast and responsive, yet its very accurate. I measured a 50 gram calibration weight, it's only a deviation of 0.3 grams, so less then 1%. Center and corners only deviate 0.1 gram. This is about the same as the (way more expensive) Timemore scale I own. The underside is one big piece, so you can use this scale on every surface and don't need to worry about incorrect measurements. “

    I realize your vid has been up for years, but you--at the time of recording--misunderstood the scales' construction. The entire top surface, including the sides, is the weighing surface. The underside encloses the 'guts' (power supply, circuit board, etc.).
    Rubber feet or rubber strips don't matter: the method and result will be identical on a relatively flat surface.
