I used to work on a decorating department in a DIY store and I can’t tell you the amount of times decorators would complain about using Farrow and Ball paint, they used to say it was too watery! The cheaper brands were much more popular!

I designed plinth drawers in my previous kitchen as it was tiny and needed any extra space for storage; it is otherwise just wasted void. It stored all my baking trays, chopping boards, trays etc. They were even more useful than I imagined. 🤗

One thing I love about the apartment we moved from that we DO have in our house is built-in bookcases in the living room. One thing I loved about our apartment that we DON’T have in our house is a big countertop/peninsula for more casual dining. We’re hoping to do a kitchen reno down the line and that would be high on my priority list!

Really interesting video. We made the mistake of getting wooden floors fitted throughout our downstairs and it maybe that we picked the wrong style but within a year they started to show dents and marks everywhere. They are an absolute nightmare to clean and, especially in the kitchen, they show every little mark and water stain. We had them sanded and revarnished a year ago in the hope that this would improve things but the marks now just show up even more! We are getting rid of them as soon as we can...a very expensive mistake!

We are currently renovating and recoded to choose one colour for the whole house (90% of our house is on one level) so my husband went and bought 10 different samples from loads of different brands and painted the samples on the wall and numbered them so I had no idea which was which brand, turns out my fave was the ‘posh’ one anyway 😂 but I definitely think it was best to chose without any bias! Can’t wait to see what you do! Xx

Two problems with Berber carpet. We had it and I was thrilled however it did flatten out really fast in the main walking area. Also the little fleck of colour made the room always look cluttered. Just telling you because I was so happy to get it and so sad when it didn't work well.

Cracked tiles are usually down to incorrect laying techniques. If the adhesive is patchy there will be weaknesses leading to cracks . Dont get your tiling done by plummers unless they come recommended. They don't always have the skills and just bodge the tiling

Great video. Would you consider wood floors or laminate floors instead of carpet? I know that wood can be really expensive and we only have it upstairs because that’s what we got with the house and we got laminate floors downstairs to match (even the kitchen) and it’s the best thing ever. They’re a really good quality and easy to clean. Of course you’d get a few scratches with pets but they fade quickly and just blend it. For us it was much better than carpets plus you can still get cute rugs to make room cosy

I totally agree about tiles! We rented a new flat when we moved out originally and the kitchen and bathroom were tile. It was SO cold in the morning in the winter and we dropped a bottle of wine on a kitchen tile and it cost a bomb to fix it! We now have wood/carpet in our new build and much prefer it. Love the look of tile but it’s about comfort really isn’t it in the long run. We have a dachshund and having a beige carpet has been much better than the grey in our rented flat. Just general dirt makes it look dirty!

  • @TheTattooedCrafter
    @TheTattooedCrafter 3 года назад +1

Agree with the carpets, anything with a fleck is a lot better than a plain colour. We’re having wool Berber carpet in our new property and can’t wait for it to be installed. We had cream carpets in the old house: worst mistake ever!! 🤦🏻‍♀️
I love the taps but we’ve had the same issues. They seem to seize up quite quickly.
We had a lot of grey in our old property as well, we were sucked into the fashionable trend. Managed to add a lot of colour with the grey, but we’ve decided in the new property we want to go bold and add a lot of colour.
Will definitely consider the toothbrush holders in our bathroom renovation.
Loved the best and worst video, it’s definitely made us think about what we’d like to do in our
New property especially now we’re in the process of renovating x

Hi! Can I just give a bit of advice/opinion on underfloor hearing - I personally wouldn’t go for it. The house I live in came with it when we brought it and it’s never worked properly (been living here for 11 years and it is always cold!) we’ve had a few plumber/heating specialists come in and to be able to figure out what’s wrong they have to pull up all of the flooring as it’s not an issue with the boiler. We have it all in the downstairs and it would be a huge job to get it fixed. I would choose to have classic radiators as they are easier and cheaper to fix if something goes wrong with the heating!! I know there not as aesthetically pleasing but they are practical. But that’s my advise and opinion 😊 xx

@@FixingBakesUK sorry Sarah. It’s a bit of a British slang term. A chav is someone who is a bit common, perhaps carries a fake designer bag, burberry hat... sort of the opposite of classy? I know a professional interior decorator who really doesn’t like farrow and ball paint for the quality. If his client has bought a farrow and ball paint to be used he would have the paint matched by deluxe and pour it back into the farrow and ball tins. He would do this out of his own money because he really hated using their paint. I know what he did was a bit naughty but it just shows that money doesn’t equal quality. It’s the only brand he would do that with and I’ve known other decorators do the same

Farrow and ball is well know with decorators that the quality isn’t great. They just became popular as they won a national trust contract.
Valspar and dulux are a much better quality paint. And paints mixed up should really be a pretty close match.

Thanks for making this video! You inspired us to get a house where it needed a bit of work and this video is really useful as we purchased our new house last year and we’re currently renovating it. We have an insta account if anyone wants to see our reno journey @elmhousereno 😊 xXx
