Hello Mandarin Mama, I love your live reactions. This is the 2nd time I have viewed this reaction and I was thinking about what you queens were saying. I was thinking about how V loves ARMY and we love him, but how we mostly see the sexy, handsome V on stage, which is very different then the Taehyung we see offstage. It is like the same person, but two very different sides. When he settles down and find true love will that person be able to handle the serious and deep thinker, sensitive and goofy side of him. What I love about BTS is that they have taken their veils off or masks off and not afraid to show you their stage presence verses real life. In real life they are so down to earth and although they are rich you don't hear them boasting. They are broken and going through the process of healing, but willing to show their vulnerabilities to help someone else get through. They are eye candy for sure, but I love that they are not afraid to show us their struggles and often remind us they are humans with feelings. It is almost like they are walking on egg shells because they love to show ARMY everything, but their life and basically everything they do is under a microscope and is either praised or scrutinized.
V is my bias. I loved this reaction. The song is about losing your voice or burying your voice for someone else (mostly yourself - specific context, but someone could relate to it in a relationship). And you’re totally correct about implied subject in Korean. I’ve been learning the language for a year now in preparation for moving there.

I really appreciate that your friends were so open minded and willing to listen and talk to you about something you love, even if they don't feel the same or quite understand. I'm turning 31 in May and that's how my family are with me. They don't see it the same way as I do, but they can appreciate that I love it and it makes me happy they support it. For Christmas my sister-in-law bought me some BTS themed things that I thought were so sweet! It means a lot when the people you care about show that they care about you too in small ways like this.

It drives me nuts when people say they "totally get the craze" based on surface level reasons. I'm happy for noonas who can enjoy that aspect of BTS taking them back to their youth. They have meaningful messages in their every song. Also BTS has their own script writers. They created fictional story in their music videos. Not every kpop or any other artist do that. Each character suffers problem of young people. Poverty, abandonment, domestic violence, death of parents, depression... One character has some super power. But he couldn't fix their problem perfectly. In the end, if you do not love yourself, helping from others will never work. So this phenomenon is not about just music or choreography or good looks.

I’ve have recruited many others to bangtan, including my 18 yr old daughter and multiple nieces. I love to see older fans understand the Bts movement. They have changed my life. They Have shown me to love myself before others. No matter what age you are you can enjoy bangtan.
Mandarin Mama I’m camera shy but have no problem spreading BTS to as many people I can. We have a convention here every November that is mostly video game and anime theme, but we have kpop panels and all day kpop random dances in the lobby of the convention. There are also a few panels strictly dedicated to kpop only. I am a big supporter of bangtan and have many bangtan sweatshirts to wear during the conventions. I love to teach people there about Bts
I'm turning 33 soon. The struggle is real. If you're older than 21, people seem to think you shouldn't be a fan. They don't necessarily make me feel like a teenager again. But I feel a sense of security when I listen to them. Which is something I value more as an adult than I did as a teenager. Knowing that with every song, there is something to be taught or learned. And filled with art and talent. That's why I love them so much. And they're extremely relatable because their personalities aren't as manufactured as groups in the past have been. They have more freedom to be them and speak and write for themselves.

I interpret it as less about the subject/other person is taking but your desire to give more and more of what you think they want and it’s starting to feel less authentic and less like real/true love. Additionally this is a piece of the full story arc - falling in love, being in love, realizing it’s not true love because you are trying to love yourself through loving someone else, coming out of the fake love to learning to love yourself.

The lyrics are poetry and that's how poetry works haha. It's not meant to spell it out completely but it's the underlying subtext and metaphors that shape the lyrics and the song as a whole. Singularity is one of the most beautiful creations sonically and lyrically. V made it even more excellent with his soulful voice. He is a gem and people often do not understand how magnificent of an artist he is. He is indeed beautiful, the most handsome man I have ever seen. Everyone has their own preferences but there's nothing wrong with a man being beautiful lol. It's just a cherry on top.. He's sexy. I feel so much kinship with you. It is very hard to contain oneself when you are sharing BTS. I always struggle with how much to share vs. how much to just let them experience. (and than the aching wish that they get it). And, as a woman in my 30's, this is also a refreshing community to find.

It's Poetry...ofcourse it's going to go over your head😂. There is deeper meaning behind the words and visuals, you just have to take time to understand what the message is about. I was never into pretty men, in fact, for the most part I still am not, but I find BTS highly attractive and sexy. There really isn't any Asian men in my area so I never really noticed them, it's mainly whites and Latinos (mostly Mexican)..... But after being introduced to BTS, and kdramas I find myself being more open minded and I actually do find Asian men attractive now, and I'm talking about gp not just celebrities lol
I love how you share BTS! I was very interested in one of the reactions, sort of carefully impluing V was too “pretty” for her taste. I have to say, I have heard this from a few people I’ve talked to about BTS, and usually it was either after having seen just a picture and not hearing the music, or having seen just part of a video… some people just can’t get past that notion, that prettiness in a particular way of perceiving a man’s looks, makes it harder for some to be attracted to the music. In this reaction case, it was satisfying to see she said she ‘got it’ at the end, based on the music and its effect on her. I had similar reactions from other friends, when upon hearing just the music, and then seeing the group, and vica versa, they truly appreciated the music. It’s a tribute to how truly great BTS’ music and talents are, that their music can turn a head as fast as their looks. Back to the topic of looks, one aspect of the “pretty boy” perspective that I always found a bit - off-putting, I guess? -, and i didn’t articulate in my own mind until now, is that idea that a pretty man is not an attractive/talented/even a man. It’s a sort of take on masculinity that can blind some to real talent and beauty. Not everybody can be attracted to every type, and in this case too, I didn’t really perceive anything toxic in the appraisal of V’s prettiness - among other things, he is beautiful, though because I find him so much more than that, I would never say he is a pretty boy because that has a slight denigrating quality in our society. And that takes me to one of the reasons that I adore BTS, and V, is that they don’t draw a harsh line between masculine and feminine beauty, and their music does not only speak to men or women, or straight or gay men, or bi women, etc. They have a goal of authenticity and artistry in their music and messaging that is just spectacular, and I believe overall they keep to that standard. And whether V or Jimin or Jhope can be called pretty or beautiful or feminine or masculine - bottom line, they are just hot AF and nobody beats their swag! Lol, I dont know if any of that made sense, just had to stream it before I lost the thought. Thanks again, and see you on a next reaction! PS- also enjoyed the first fanfic of yours I read! Singularity is one of the most beautiful creations sonically and lyrically. V made it even more excellent with his soulful voice. He is a gem and people often do not understand how magnificent of an artist he is. He is indeed beautiful, the most handsome man I have ever seen. Everyone has their own preferences but there's nothing wrong with a man being beautiful lol. It's just a cherry on top.. He's sexy. I was never into pretty men, in fact, for the most part I still am not, but I find BTS highly attractive and sexy. There really isn't any Asian men in my area so I never really noticed them, it's mainly whites and Latinos (mostly Mexican)..... But after being introduced to BTS, and kdramas I find myself being more open minded and I actually do find Asian men attractive now, and I'm talking about gp not just celebrities lol
Re-tuning our eyes is a big part of why I love BTS and K-pop! It makes me so happy.

I love how you share BTS! I was very interested in one of the reactions, sort of carefully impluing V was too “pretty” for her taste. I have to say, I have heard this from a few people I’ve talked to about BTS, and usually it was either after having seen just a picture and not hearing the music, or having seen just part of a video… some people just can’t get past that notion, that prettiness in a particular way of perceiving a man’s looks, makes it harder for some to be attracted to the music. In this reaction case, it was satisfying to see she said she ‘got it’ at the end, based on the music and its effect on her. I had similar reactions from other friends, when upon hearing just the music, and then seeing the group, and vica versa, they truly appreciated the music. It’s a tribute to how truly great BTS’ music and talents are, that their music can turn a head as fast as their looks.
Back to the topic of looks, one aspect of the “pretty boy” perspective that I always found a bit - off-putting, I guess? -, and i didn’t articulate in my own mind until now, is that idea that a pretty man is not an attractive/talented/even a man. It’s a sort of take on masculinity that can blind some to real talent and beauty. Not everybody can be attracted to every type, and in this case too, I didn’t really perceive anything toxic in the appraisal of V’s prettiness - among other things, he is beautiful, though because I find him so much more than that, I would never say he is a pretty boy because that has a slight denigrating quality in our society.
And that takes me to one of the reasons that I adore BTS, and V, is that they don’t draw a harsh line between masculine and feminine beauty, and their music does not only speak to men or women, or straight or gay men, or bi women, etc. They have a goal of authenticity and artistry in their music and messaging that is just spectacular, and I believe overall they keep to that standard. And whether V or Jimin or Jhope can be called pretty or beautiful or feminine or masculine - bottom line, they are just hot AF and nobody beats their swag!
