Maybe a follow-up to snoopy for 2024: my algorithm has been happily bombarding me with the muppets for the last few months. Muppet core? Miss Piggy Core? Embracing the joy and togetherness and self-expression represented by the Jim Henson company?
I think we will see more clothing that will look home made (crocheted, knitted, sewn. ). Why? The world is complicated, and handicrafts or handmade things are soothing. What do I want to see? Surprise me! Sending Love from Germany!
My 2024 predictions are bootleg character graphic tees, decorated headphones as an accessory, fat folx taking up space with oversized styling, and soft violence ofc.
I think because Mickey Mouse (the original iteration) is now officially in the public domain, we're gonna see a Mickey trend happening. Maybe black and white, polka dot, and retro?
Yes! And grunge as a sensibility and way of styling ”opposite” aesthetics, like grunge romance in like a really messy red lip and a 90s maxi floral dress under an oversize top. Loose and imperfect and worn
Prediction: Patchwork! Maybe it's just me, but I'm really digging patchwork clothes. Not really small patches sewn together, but big patches, so the item is made out of just a few different fabrics, rather than a lot of different small patches sewn together. And like, maybe crazy quilt style embroidery stitching on top? Probably not, but that'd be great.
I don't know how relevant the show Next in Fashion is, but the winner this last season did a ton of patchwork! I think it reflects a lot of people's desire to see less polished, more casual-feeling clothes after so many years of aesthetics and clean girl and various perfectionism-driven looks
I think this is real because ppl learning to sew I think is gonna continue and patchwork is very beginner friendly technique and good way to use up scraps or reuse failed projects 😅
I'd love to see more consideration for textiles as a whole. Like, I see more and more people talking about why they'd prefer a cotton over a polyester, not only from a sustainability perspective but also because of what it actually *feels* like to be sweaty and uncomfortable in a 100% polyester item and why another material might be preferable for a certain application. I don't know if that makes sense, but spreading practical textile knowledge in general would be amazing!
This is less a prediction and more a personal style preference: I currently aspire to "fancy Edwardian lady who dreams of being a clown" and I am thankful for Kathleen's indirect encouragement to pursue such a theme
I am definitely a character dresser, going by what I feel like that day. I buy clothes at the thrift store and redo them, refashioning them into clothes that are more fun than they were. My friends love it--we are all over 70 yrs old and finally being the fun people we were never allowed to be when we were younger! Love your videos!
I was just going to say this! Predicting the pendulum swinging waaayyyy back from y2k and indie sleaze to referencing more antique clothing in a new way
I just want people to wear what makes them happy. And I hope the "trend" of wearing thrifted and/or vintage clothes continues or expands. I've had a lot of fun in 2023 in exploring my style with 2nd hand clothing. It's great!
Katheleen just checking in on us midway to make sure we got some wawa was just so wholesome 😊 My prediction is that there will be more "closet cosplays" not just in the cosplay community but I see more people dressing up as their favorite character aesthetic.
"character dressing" is something I guess I was doing 10-15 years ago as a high schooler! I always loved bouncing between different aesthetics and subcultures in my day-to-day dress. love to have a phrase for it now
Yes! and Yes! I'd love to see more visible mending/reuse/upcycling! I am visibly mending my clothes, learning about various methods and replacing boring buttons with gems from my dear Mother's and Grandmother's button boxes!
for 2024 I want more fun fashion trends for men(tm). I want more than jus "oh baggy jeans and a white shirt" I want what all the other fun girlies get to do. Layering, clashing patterns, skirts, fun accessories like bows. I kno as a guy any guy can wear these kinda things but I jus wish guys got more excited about trends and dressing super unique. Im tired of being seen as "alt" from other guys for wearing a cropped hoodie. I jus want more fun fashion thats more "catered" for guys(tm)
5:35 I just saw a video of a lady crocheting the novelty big red boots, and they were 1000% better than the original! I want to try and crochet them myself, whether it is for indoor or if I find a sole to wear them outside.
I did find that the colour season stuff somewhat helpful as a point of inspiration and encouragement to explore shades I wouldn't normally be drawn to. I took a quiz out of curiousity and used the results to try on some different stuff at thrift store. I discovered that I really enjoy wearing coral, teal, and muted pinks, which I hadn't previously considered "my colours". So I think it's kind of a net positive if its used for inspiration rather than as a rule to be obeyed.
Trends: maybe Garfield trend since there’s a movie coming out in 2024, maybe crazy amount of pins and brochures are going to be big since the charmed necklace was a trend and people like to customize their stuff. I feel like since it’s an election year in the US and the economy isn’t doing well I think happy bright colors are out and more dark gloomy colors are going to be popular and classy preppy chic is going to be turn more rebellious and less perfect more messy.
This past year I got REALLY into sewing, and have gotten interested as a result in customizing clothing. I used fabric markers and dye-na-flow to draw a bunch of ghost foxes on a dress I made because it was blank fabric. I made like four of the same pattern because I loved wearing it. I thrifted a ton of fabric to use for sewing! I’d love to see people do irreverent stuff with their clothes in 2024. Applique of a cheeky nature? Sure! Weird color combinations? Yes please. Also I thrifted two long full skirts this year that I LOVED wearing despite being asked if I was Pentacostal when I wore it. I’d also like to see people going for natural fabrics so I can maybe find some when I absolutely have to shop retail for something.
I think you’re 100% right about “me made”/handmade items. More visible mending, more layers of natural fibers… harder “witchy” vibes, what with the impending election and whatnot… - and the opposite. Like, FUTURE futuristic… like Ruby Rhod or Panem Capitol shit. Avant garde grocery shopping. 🤞
Shorts with tights!!! This is my absolute favorite trend and I think it’s going to catch on more in 2024. It gives a mini skirt vibe but you can still do a cartwheel and climb a tree!!!
Love this!! My non-educated predictions: giant novelty food motifs, Lisa Frank, and 90s style soft illustrations of kitties and puppies on oversized pastel tops…maybe these are more hopes than actual predictions but hey!! Great content and video!!!!
Okay but character dressing makes sense with what I do! I wear whatever I feel like wearing most days and doesn't follow a specific fashion style, so some days I'm 90s romcom, other days I'm lolita inspired, another day I'm 00s emo... I absolutely love that identifying style name. Lol
My most wanted aesthetic my entire life (born in 88) has been Whimsigoth 😍 Nothing has ever come close to how much I absolutely ADORE whimsigoth style and clothes. As a chubby 90s kid nothing of that aesthetic fit me when it first became popular, but now, with plus size options online catering to my aspired aesthetic, I can FINALLY dress the way I've always wanted to 😍 its so awesome! Add onto that Dopamine dressing, cottage core, and the BoHo Hippie aesthetic, and that is my general wardrobe 🥰 It feels so good to have clothes I'm excited to wear!
I also exclusively only wear comfortable clothes, as I have multiple chronic pain and illness conditions, so flowy, soft, stretchy fabric and clothing is what I need to be comfortable, all of which (thankfully) fit my desired aesthetic lol
I read @vivthemole's trend prediction and really jived with her idea of how the bow will evolve - she posited that we will lean into a more masc trend and the motif that we can see the bow turn into is knots, nautical and cool ropey things! I also have been seeing a lot of betty boop recently... methinks she might be a big character this year 👀
I’m excited to see a Hello Kitty inspired explosion this year for their 50th anniversary. That will be so fun!🤞🤞 I’m also loving all the leather that’s showing up on the streets 😍
Your 2023 Trend Predictions was the first video of yours that I’d ever watched, and I’ve been obsessed with your content ever since🥲 I look forward to more of your videos in 2024!! Also, I’ve literally been seeing folks wearing TOOL BELTS as an accessory, so I would argue that your prediction for cargo everything/ utility inspired pieces was pretty darn accurate!
I think extreme textures and texture clashing//layering could become a thing, also more elaborate undergarments? if that makes sense, like slips and bloomers more. loved ur vid!!
i have a theory that what is pushing the trend cycle or microtrend cycle along is what some cool people are finding cheap in the back of thrift stores and second hand shops and are styling it in such a way that people take notice and it brings it back. Like with the boxer shorts and some of the blokette aesthetic, ties, wrestling boots, cargo trousers, the small glasses and things like indie sleaze and the mall goth aesthetic you mentioned. Unfortunately for my older millennial self that means next up will probably be bubble hems, peplums and satin everything.
amazing how well you did with these predictions! I suppose when it was once your job you do get really good, but still a very impressive skill! personally I hope that the very feminine elements stick around, because as a former "not like other girls" girl I love celebrating all things feminine!
I've been thinking about this a lot since first watching your video a couple days ago...I realized first that I'd love to see more trends that support what I'm already wearing 😅 -- but also, that I care less about following trends than before. The post pandemic trends of cottagecore and "comfortcore" led me to create a wardrobe of boho/cottagecore dresses, soft leggings/bike shorts, and comfy oversized flannels, tees, sweatshirts, etc. I've started joking with people that I have two modes of dressing....wannabe literary heroine or feral child. 😂 and comfortable, always comfortable. Now that trends are leaning away from prairie dresses and threatening me with denim again...I've realized I just don't care enough/have the money or deisre to change my wardrobe into something that I'm uncomfortable in, either physically or emotionally.
Preppy is going to be big again in 2024: polo shirts, polo dresses, blazers, tweed, button downs, chore coats, denim shirts, crew necks, lady like dresses, vintage brands like Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, LL Bean, Eddie Bauer, J Crew. Personally, I am having a lot of fun mashing up preppy with lots of other styles and cores: preppy grunge, boho preppy, blokette prep, officecore prep, thrift store prom dress prep, clown prep . . .it goes ON.
Thank you for reminding me to get my wa-wa. I'm still stuck on 2012-2014 tumblr and that probably will never change as it was the aesthetic kind of thing of how I wanted to dress in high school, but couldn't quite make it work and when it was actually going on, I was working a job with a uniform/dress code (although I rarely wore it, woot woot nightshift freedoms!) and also didn't feel thin enough to wear the style, oh how brainwashed I was. Honestly, I just like people being happy in what they're wearing, and if it happens to be more sustainable then huzzah! I'm doing a low buy/no buy year and I have so many things that need just a little TLC/DIY and just rare materials, that I plan on trying to make more of my clothes this year. Can't wait to see next weeks video!
One girl mentioned it but I think polka dot and cute patterns (animal print too) are going to come back for sure (did they ever leave?). Suspenders maybe. Also colorful basics. I'd say lycra might show up too. And it's been a long time since we last heard of skinny jeans, right? I predict perhaps a more straight shaped figure for women and maybe a turn in masculine clothing for men. Maybe a twist again, like the pearly earrings and necklaces. Who knows!
@@KathleenIllustrated I can see it! Imagine dressing a la Snoopy vs Red Baron? Soft green wool cap, brass goggles, voluminous red scarf (which is already a trend I believe)… maybe a flight suit, high lace up boots, and a vintage jacket?
I feel like in the spring/summer we'll see a combo of corp and gorp core aesthetics, i.e. office-to-hike as the new day-to-night. Think blazers with patagonia baggies, button downs with track pants, hiking sneaker brands like salomon, skorts, sling bags, more little secretary glasses, maybe even utility vests over dresses
Yay! That was the video that brought me to you. ☺ I was HOOKED. My brain is so overwhelmed with all the different intersections of fashion/style that I can't fathom predicting anything. lol BUT I would love to see less polyester and more sustainable fabrics being utilized and better construction since thrifting isn't accessible for everyone (ie. needing a really specific tailor of pants and not having time/energy to search every store every day to find it). I also want to see more cute motifs, not sure exactly what this could be, but whatever the next iteration of bows or 3D flowers are. Oh and more patterns! I feel like I never come across very interesting patterns, it's always very same same or so many solids, I wish more brands got creative and did stuff more like Farm Rio, Liberty London and the Pangea x Sezane collection.
I think we saw the monogrammed item becoming a bit of a trend towards the end of last year, so I reckon we might see more of that custom element in preppy styling or perhaps a specific personal icon (like Steven Universe's star or Scott Pilgrim's X) being added to items? I'm honestly a bit downcast about all the corpcore and minimalist stuff coming back around as it can feel very plain and conservative so adding a bit of your own personalisation could be a way to combine novelty and this trend.
wow, i love that!! ive been doing that with my handmade clothes, addind a little "dizzy" or spiral motif.. i would love to see ppl adding their own personal icons to clothes, what a cool observation
@@hanniballecter1960 I love the idea of adding your signature to your me-made clothes like this! :) And much respect for making your own pieces - I'm working up to it but still editing and upcycling at the moment.
Great message! I would hope for non-performative dressing. There’s dressing for other people, signalling to your girl style tribe, and then there’s dressing to tick a box on your social media style trend bingo card. Hopefully we drop the latter at least.
I got a snoopy tattoo this year, so I think that means you absolutely nailed it! I also have bows on my nails, so really the novelty/character category definitely got to me this year.
I have this feeling that bodysuits are going to come back- they were common in 2016 or so for wearing under high waist mom jeans, but I think we'll see more exploration with the body suit to create shape (shoulder pads? cut outs?) and used for more low-rise and mid-rise bottoms.
Definitely more character dressing!! The idea of casual cosplay is so fun and as someone who’s cosplay items often make it into my normal wardrobe and expands my style I appreciate the creativity it gives people and license to be a little more out there than they might otherwise. I think with both the next dune movie and that max mad prequel as well as the fallout show coming out (and global warming / the planet being on fire) we might see an uptick in desert sci fi dystopian inspired sorta mars-core clothing. Not sure if people will really lean into the beige/orange/brown color scheme but definitely flowy shapes yet punk inspired, and purposely distressed materials. Then my guess for the next little object to get popular after bows is buttons, especially with the trend of making your own clothing and cozy vibes, but that might just be me loving goblin/clutter core maximalism and wanting everyone to feed their inner magpie. In terms of my own clothing journey I dyed my hair for a Harley Quinn cosplay early on so spent the first part of the year leaning into more neon / bright colors to go with the bright pink and blue, which was fun since jewel tones are my comfort zone (though also fell in love with my witchy goth clothes all over as they contrasted with my hair well too!). Also for Harley I replaced one of the laces on my main boots with a pink ribbon and then just kinda kept it, i got a lot of compliments and conversations out of it!
I think we’re also seeing a rise in arm/leg warmers done in that 2007 hot topic style. But those will have more of a homemade crocheted look. (Not that those haven’t been a thing, but i think we’ll see more of it.)
This past year i learned that i LOVE skirts with tights, esp long skirts bc they are so fun and swishy!! So id love to see more of those in 2024!! Im definitely bringing my mary janes into the new year as well! Id love to see bright colored tights and tights with shorts. And ive just gotta say, i rlly enjoy you wishing folks to dress however makes them happy :) i feel like that is a central theme to a lot of your videos and its been a big help in giving me the courage to explore what i want our of my own style!! I dont know if i wouldve had the courage to wear skirts if not for you ! At least not as quickly as i picked it up. Very happy to say i havent worn pants in WEEKS. 😂
I love glasses trends so I like that you mentioned the tiny round silver glasses! Also the tiny silver ones and especially the rimless ones are less visible on your face, just like you said playing around with transparency/sheer on the face! I hope to see more experimental makeup, more color this year, more personal style. Brooches. Jewelry on clothes. You nailed it on character dressing, so I am super excited to hear about your thoughts about 2024 predictions. I hope 2024 is your best year yet! 🎀
Idk if this is fashion trend perse but whenever someone recieves a compliment on something, the response not being "i got it from x" and also when giving compliments not asking "where did you get it from?". Like knowing where someone got smth from should not be the point of a compliment. I'm going to try when someone else compliments me to say "ty, i like this/wore this today bc x" and when giving compliments a) NOT ask ppl where they got it from and b) structure the compliment like "oh thats really cute bc x thing i noticed about your style" idk complimenting to appreciate not replicate ig
But when I reply, 'oh I found it in an opshop' that usually garners impressed noises... So asking where you found something doesn't seem that bad unless the ppl around you make it negative? Also, some ppl find it harder to find things that fit so sometimes knowing about a fit friendly shop (big ppl, short ppl, whatever) is actually really helpful
The character dressing reminds me of Confessions of a teenage drama queen. After I watched that I had theme days like all black and white. For the coming year I'm going to predict 2000s inspired athletic wear including skorts. Think minimalist streamlined tennis skirt and Adidas stripes on everything.
I feel like crochet has been getting bigger and bigger, I'm hoping we see more slow fashion with crochet/hand knit items! I know i'll be making some of my own clothes this year, and I've got the new years resolution of learning to sew using a machine
I have a feeling that Kibbe and Kitchener systems and their ideas of style and dressing for your body type or essence will be the next colour theory. I also think W.i.t.c.h. and also Bratz might be coming back as style inspo!
I feel like people could build amazing layered colorful wardrobes from vintage fashion only. There is so much clothing out there it would be so much more sustainable for the current financial situation and also environmentally to switch to vintage there is more than I ever realized.
with steamboat willy losing copyright protection, maybe more indie brands pushing the boundaries of beloved characters? i think shoddily created crafty stuff will be popular- puffy paint? apocalyptic crochet? chunky beading?
I would just love to see more people wearing whatever the heck they want! Who cares what patterns, colors, or shapes you wear all at one time. Do you like it? Yes? I hope you wear whatever brings you joy. ❤I think we will see a lot more handmade and I feel like it has already been gaining popularity the last few years. Very big on just being you and doing your own thing. 🍄
I discovered a sewer who was coming up with designs for adjustable-sized wrap skirts AND dresses. This is a concept possibility that has been percolating in the back of my brain for a few years now, so this might usher in a craze in multi-adjustable patterns in clothing. Or at least inspire me to finally try it.
i'd love to see more people wearing selfmade clothes - knitts, sewed, crafted jewelery, thrift flips... a focus on doing rather than consuming and having :)
You're right - No one should be restricted to any color palette or get rid of the clothes they have! HOWEVER, 😁 The theory behind the "trend" is real, and it is nice to know which colors really enhance your look or understand why you never could wear black, for instance. That's why color seasons have been around since the 1980's (maybe before). The problem isn't the color knowledge, it's getting neurotic-tok over it 🤣 (I made that up).
Good call on those trends !! I’m just excited to have the availability of so many different denim styles, cuts and washes moving forward! I also love minimal 90s style dresses specifically and hope that continues.
I think in 2024 we're going to see grunge get big again and more character dressing (in an ironic way perhaps??) Lol. Also I want to see more clothing swaps!!!! I get invited to one like every 2 years and it's always life changing.
My predictions/hopes and dreams: more attention to fabric content (i.e. natural fibers over artificial) - as an evolution of “quiet luxury” mixed with sustainable fashion. Side parts and side bangs. Victorian under clothing as clothing, think longer white ruffly bloomers and petticoats. I know some people are doing these things already but maybe they’ll become more widespread.
I think we’ll see Garfield more and maybe early 00’s Nickelodeon cartoon characters like Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Doug era. I’m also seeing a lot of peoples resolutions to decrease spending. So I think early 90’s thrift but carefully edited customized and tailored. I could also see lots patterns like camo, dalmation, cheetah, cow and flame motifs and textures like faux fur ya know things that Gen Z wore when they were little.
I'm pretty bad at predicting trends and even understanding what is currently on trend (so many different things are trending, I get overwhelmed), but lately I've been embracing my 40's war-time/80's normcore with a hint of whimsy and/or art deco style so I'd love to see more of that.
So, lately I've been seeing everything from my early high school years come back. What was wildly popular at the time was teal with brown and gold, satin everything, 1930s bias cut styles mixed with boho things? My favorite outfit was a floor length green jersey skirt with a fold over waist and a top that exactly matched with a chain belt worn low on the hips. Add in metallic wedge platform sandals that had cork as the sole plus medallion laser cut earrings and you had my favorite outfit of sophmore year. I also wore a lot of satin paisley printed things and these high heeled satin mary janes in teal with gold bows and straps. I loved those styles so I'm pretty excited to see how much of that comes back and how it gets reinterpreted.
OMG, your friend immediately needs make a band named Soft Violence!!! Also, the acubi style reminded me of Kim Possible as it went with the whole early 2000s vibes and cargo pants but basically Kim just started hanging out with Shego more.
I’m convinced that polka dots are coming back, and also frosty baby blue is going to be the next it colour after red. My one fashion wish is for the boxer shorts for summer trend to continue because I truly found my new favourite fashion item in those last summer. So cute so comfy so casual!!
The ultimate cozy item I own and been trying to find in other colors is this oversized turtle neck sweater with these bat wing sleeves. It has to be this cozy sweater material as well. So far, I have only got a black and grey version.
2023 was the first year I bought all of my clothes second hand, and it ignited my own personal style. So it would be great to see more second hand styles in 2024, and maybe upgrade your clothes with things you make, like crochet, knitting, making your own clothes. And just be yourself!!
Yes!! This! Similar here. I slowly started in 2020 with your kind of mindset.. of stopping to buy new stuff and only buying second hand and make/alter clothes myself from that point on.. and it opened up a whole new world of understanding what my personal style actually is! And your comment just made me realize, 2023 was the first full year of fully committing to it without even noticing - because it has become so much more fun to either go treasure hunting in thrift stores, creating stuff from scratch and learning new skills on the way. So thank you for that and go forth and enjoy fully being yourself! 😊
These vids are always so fun- really obsessed with the silky top you were wearing in this one! My prediction is that people will start wearing big chunky keychains of Tamagotchis, Polly Pockets or other small vintage toys on their bags. Also that toolboxes/lunchboxes/stiff boxy purses will become accessories that unseat tiny purses and clutches (just because I want this to happen).
I'm definitely seeing a shift to more corseted items - not actual historical ones, but similar to the corset inspired tops of the early 2000s with a new twist. Also things that lace up.
I'm thinking oversized stuff will be big this year, and not just big hoodies but more chunky oversized knits, layering with big-on-top, big-on-bottom outfits, balloon-type blouses and full skirts. Maybe it's just a personal style evolution but I've been leaning more into this type of fit as a way to rebel against norms for societally "attractive" aka figure-hugging outfits for femme-presenting people. I'm thinking we'll be seeing more of the bright cobalt blue and also a real vivid crayon green. Most of all I just hope people wear what makes them happy!
I don't know if it's a prediction or if it's because it's part of the algorithm adapting to me. But as in recent times we've been seeing this big trend of discovering your ID in relation to body type, color palette (as you said), essences, and other things that are predetermined, I think the pendulum is going the other way.... Some systems are emerging that still place categories, but are more focused on people's personal preferences. like Rita's 4 keys, or Ellie Jean's StyleRoots... and also (maybe I just didn't know before), but subs like oldragfashion opening up safe spaces for people to dress more authentically. I think there will be this change of dressing according to what is ""right for your body"", to adapting this information discovered or ignoring it and leaning towards personal taste.
i think that 1970s styles will make a comeback in coming years, coming off the 90s and y2k style which had a 70s revival at the time, and penny lane coats and mary jane shoes have come back too. andddd in conjunction with that, maybe 70s style prairie dresses too? as a follow up the coquette trend, but idk as this would kinda be the cottagecore trend
Drop your 2024 predictions here! What do you think we'll see? What do WANT to see? I'll go first: 100% secondhand wardrobes ;-)
Maybe a follow-up to snoopy for 2024: my algorithm has been happily bombarding me with the muppets for the last few months. Muppet core? Miss Piggy Core? Embracing the joy and togetherness and self-expression represented by the Jim Henson company?
@@lionfearts woah muppetcore could be fun
I think we will see more clothing that will look home made (crocheted, knitted, sewn. ). Why? The world is complicated, and handicrafts or handmade things are soothing. What do I want to see? Surprise me! Sending Love from Germany!
Extreme comfort. You know those shark blankets? It’ll be onesie/blanket as clothing invasion
Monochromatic Mouse-core… I can see it.
Steamboat Captain Summer
lol :D 👍
great I am going to add that to my ornament selection. didnt really connect the dots til now.
amzrepo I love you so much and watching your videos makes my day brighter
I think the next evolution of the character dressing is gonna be more people dressing as cozy game characters, especially animal crossing villagers
I already wear Stardew Spring fashion in my greenhouse so I’m ready!
This is my goal for 2024
I think grunge is gonna make a comeback, personally im loving combining my grunge clothing and style with more of an eclectic corporate style
I agree. I am putting preppy and grunge together a lot. Also, mixing blokette with grunge.
Yes! And grunge as a sensibility and way of styling ”opposite” aesthetics, like grunge romance in like a really messy red lip and a 90s maxi floral dress under an oversize top. Loose and imperfect and worn
I'm in the underground music scene and everyone around me wears this like emo grunge type aesthetic, it's really cool to see
Prediction: Patchwork!
I’d love this
I don’t know if it’s going to be an everybody trend, but that’s definitely going to be a me trend lol.
Yes I love the sound of this! I’m gonna at least make it a trend in my life!
Ooh yes jagged hem x under the big top!
Honestly sounds really awesome.
Bahahaha, this is amazing.

I could see a return of victorian era silhouettes especially in long coats. In a similar way to how we have leaned into 70s, 80s, and 90s styles
I was just going to say this! Predicting the pendulum swinging waaayyyy back from y2k and indie sleaze to referencing more antique clothing in a new way

5:35 I just saw a video of a lady crocheting the novelty big red boots, and they were 1000% better than the original! I want to try and crochet them myself, whether it is for indoor or if I find a sole to wear them outside.
Wow, they would make wonderful slippers
I did find that the colour season stuff somewhat helpful as a point of inspiration and encouragement to explore shades I wouldn't normally be drawn to. I took a quiz out of curiousity and used the results to try on some different stuff at thrift store. I discovered that I really enjoy wearing coral, teal, and muted pinks, which I hadn't previously considered "my colours". So I think it's kind of a net positive if its used for inspiration rather than as a rule to be obeyed.
I’m STOKED to hear your predictions for 2024 😮
Trends: maybe Garfield trend since there’s a movie coming out in 2024, maybe crazy amount of pins and brochures are going to be big since the charmed necklace was a trend and people like to customize their stuff.
I’d also like to see people going for natural fabrics so I can maybe find some when I absolutely have to shop retail for something.
long skirts are surprisingly utilitarian
Love this recap . Never seen a year in trend review before
I thought it would be a fun convo! Super glad you enjoyed it :)
I think you’re 100% right about “me made”/handmade items. More visible mending, more layers of natural fibers… harder “witchy” vibes, what with the impending election and whatnot…
- and the opposite. Like, FUTURE futuristic… like Ruby Rhod or Panem Capitol shit. Avant garde grocery shopping. 🤞
Hearing that Snoopy is popular makes me even more happy that I thrifted a cozy Snoopy hoodie recently lol
Shorts with tights!!! This is my absolute favorite trend and I think it’s going to catch on more in 2024. It gives a mini skirt vibe but you can still do a cartwheel and climb a tree!!!
It's awesome with a romper too!!
Ooo never thought about a romper- that’s a great idea!
Lol
My most wanted aesthetic my entire life (born in 88) has been Whimsigoth 😍
Nothing has ever come close to how much I absolutely ADORE whimsigoth style and clothes.
As a chubby 90s kid nothing of that aesthetic fit me when it first became popular, but now, with plus size options online catering to my aspired aesthetic, I can FINALLY dress the way I've always wanted to 😍 its so awesome!
Add onto that Dopamine dressing, cottage core, and the BoHo Hippie aesthetic, and that is my general wardrobe 🥰
It feels so good to have clothes I'm excited to wear!
I also have been seeing a lot of betty boop recently... methinks she might be a big character this year 👀
Oh! Lol that’s exactly what I posited in my bow video 😂 great minds think alike! And oh MAN I love me some boop. Long live da queen!!!
I’m excited to see a Hello Kitty inspired explosion this year for their 50th anniversary. That will be so fun!🤞🤞
I’m also loving all the leather that’s showing up on the streets 😍
Your 2023 Trend Predictions was the first video of yours that I’d ever watched, and I’ve been obsessed with your content ever since🥲 I look forward to more of your videos in 2024!!
Also, I’ve literally been seeing folks wearing TOOL BELTS as an accessory, so I would argue that your prediction for cargo everything/ utility inspired pieces was pretty darn accurate!
Same here to all counts
I think you're exactly right on all counts 🤣
amazing how well you did with these predictions! I suppose when it was once your job you do get really good, but still a very impressive skill! personally I hope that the very feminine elements stick around, because as a former "not like other girls" girl I love celebrating all things feminine!
Rachel Maksy is the one who convinced me to try “character dressing” a couple years ago, and I’ve never looked back.
Who knows!
Yes! It's the year of Snoopy! Bring it on! I have prepared my whole life for this.
You're a true believer!!!!
@@KathleenIllustrated I can see it! Imagine dressing a la Snoopy vs Red Baron? Soft green wool cap, brass goggles, voluminous red scarf (which is already a trend I believe)… maybe a flight suit, high lace up boots, and a vintage jacket?
Cropped wide-leg pants!!! Especially in silky materials! I'm rooting for them, huge fan
I feel like I never come across very interesting patterns, it's always very same same or so many solids, I wish more brands got creative and did stuff more like Farm Rio, Liberty London and the Pangea x Sezane collection.
favorite fashion creator, I love the way you view fashion in such a creative and positive light
The color olive - especially for outerwear, and lots of hand knitted things.
SOOTHSAYER, BLESS US WITH YOUR WIZZZZDOM!
Also for Harley I replaced one of the laces on my main boots with a pink ribbon and then just kinda kept it, i got a lot of compliments and conversations out of it!
omg the "character dressing" manifesting as all the different aesthetic -cores ... so spot on!!!! ur brilliance!!
I think we’re also seeing a rise in arm/leg warmers done in that 2007 hot topic style. But those will have more of a homemade crocheted look. (Not that those haven’t been a thing, but i think we’ll see more of it.)
NEW KATHLEEEEEN VIDDDD
👹HIIIIIIIIIII👹
Yes! Love including glasses in trends. Such a good point 🤓❤
Idk if this is fashion trend perse but whenever someone recieves a compliment on something, the response not being "i got it from x" and also when giving compliments not asking "where did you get it from?". Like knowing where someone got smth from should not be the point of a compliment.
I'm going to try when someone else compliments me to say "ty, i like this/wore this today bc x" and when giving compliments a) NOT ask ppl where they got it from and b) structure the compliment like "oh thats really cute bc x thing i noticed about your style"
idk complimenting to appreciate not replicate ig
Anti-consumerism trend PLS
I know i'll be making some of my own clothes this year, and I've got the new years resolution of learning to sew using a machine
youre SOO real for having an instagram feed with cute art and stray kids
I have a feeling that Kibbe and Kitchener systems and their ideas of style and dressing for your body type or essence will be the next colour theory. I also think W.i.t.c.h. and also Bratz might be coming back as style inspo!
I feel like people could build amazing layered colorful wardrobes from vintage fashion only. There is so much clothing out there it would be so much more sustainable for the current financial situation and also environmentally to switch to vintage there is more than I ever realized.
I haven’t heard of “acubi”, but it makes me think of visual kei combined with minimalism…Interesting! Great video as always Kathleen! 👏
with steamboat willy losing copyright protection, maybe more indie brands pushing the boundaries of beloved characters?
i think shoddily created crafty stuff will be popular- puffy paint? apocalyptic crochet? chunky beading?
FOREST GREEN and the mixing of all types of green from Kelly to neon into an article of clothing or look.
I'm gonna start using it ipso facto XD
This is my new fave YT channel ❤
& this is my new favorite comment! 🥹🩷
My predictions/hopes and dreams:
more attention to fabric content (i.e. natural fibers over artificial) - as an evolution of “quiet luxury” mixed with sustainable fashion.
Side parts and side bangs.
Victorian under clothing as clothing, think longer white ruffly bloomers and petticoats.
I know some people are doing these things already but maybe they’ll become more widespread.
I would like to see more lace and shear, but mixed with traditional menswear and suits, and not in a fancy way but rather shabby, grungy, piratey.
A trend I would love to see more of is visible mending. Funky patches, brightly stitched darning, embroidery, ect
I immediately thought of your predictions when I saw a ton of people dressing their Christmas tree in floppy bows.
I always appreciate that Kathleen will always wait for us to get water! 😊
Eyes! On! Things!
Think knitting and feeling navy/ blue for a while, military wear mixed with grunge and 1940's war wear
Your hair looks so cute
thank you!
Embroidery and super custom pieces are coming. Mark my words!
I think we're gonna see soo many appliques like big flowers and stars and hearts and buttons
Jester inspired and italian rennaissance with whimsigoth leanings is my prediction for beginning of 2024
Love your hair😍
thank you!!!!!
That Bayonetta Awooga was so delightful
Seeing the start of 90's fashion like washed out jeans and big Bomberjackets crossed with college jackets for guys also would look at Travis Kelce
Character dressing and we should all be obsessed with Rupert the bear. The original cottage core/ mushroom trip baddie.
Just when I thought I couldn’t love you more, you touched my nj heart w the wawa reference. Yayy east coast familiarity and representation 🎉
i think that 1970s styles will make a comeback in coming years, coming off the 90s and y2k style which had a 70s revival at the time, and penny lane coats and mary jane shoes have come back too. andddd in conjunction with that, maybe 70s style prairie dresses too? as a follow up the coquette trend, but idk as this would kinda be the cottagecore trend
the “how to style your formal clothes” video was my first Kathleen vid. I’ve never looked back, baby! ❤
