Meeting your Turkish friend, Dogun , pure serendipity! Perfect demonstration of the one-ness of people when he described the attitudes/lifestyles of south Turkey and the Greeks from the islands. People get along fine, it`s the bloody governments that cause all the problems! You won`t know yourselves now, with your watermaker! You`ll be fighting over who does the washing :) Fair winds guys xx
Your amazing sailing channel found me this passed week. How lucky for me? In my forties I completed three different Canadian sailing courses out of Sidney Harbor on Vancouver Island and I have built one sailing dory and two cedar stripped canoes and my high school woodshop students have built three Nutshell Prams. I am now 73 years old and on good days I think it is not too late to begin the blue water sailing life. On other days I think that ship has sailed on without me. Never mind, I have ample time to enjoy the incredibly good story telling that you are providing. I have enjoyed La Vagabond for nearly six years and have watched as they developed their skills and their channel. Frankly, I think you are taking things to a new level. I enjoy your story, the video, the editing and the educational aspects as well. Most EXCELLENT! I AM SUBSCRIBED.
Batteries and watermaker - make the world go round, it seems, can't wait!! Can't believe the snow fall, none in dear old Blighty, winds a-gusto though. I watch the wind predictions all the time and forget you're at the other end of the med... I'll keep an eye on it in future, not as challenging as the North Atlantic though, perhaps that's why you went there! Great video.
Guessing at my age I am now too old for you to adopt me. Lifestyle. Truly blissfully amazing. Am sure I could fit into your film/video quite well at a distance. Do make good ballast..Cheers.
Relaxed attitude to 'elf&safety goggles in the wood-tuning workshop but impressive skill, as is your technical mastery of all things Nautical S.F.I. Lovely Winter excursion.
Hi Judy and Steve, What a very good video. So interesting and vibrant. Thank you for the tour. Also it was so nice to listen to the view of your Turkish friend. David
Be careful not to let the watermaker or filter canisters freeze. I just installed my new Spectra Ventura this past summer in a lazarette. While in Hawaii over the holidays, the Pacific Northwest was hit by some unusually cold weather and I came back to a frozen solid filter canister and damage to the Clark Pump. The unit is currently at the manufacturer in California. Fingers crossed that the repair bill won't be too bad. You will love it... Cheers.
When I was in the US Navy, Marmaris was my absolute favorite port visit in the Med. The people were extraordinarily friendly and the food was amazing. I hope you visit there someday. Would love to see it again! Also, congratulations on the watermaker! It is amazing the amount of freedom it will afford you.
Oh my, oven baked goat! Maybe they didn’t have space for the last word, “cheese”! I for one, cannot wait for the next videos of the install of both the water maker and new batteries. It’s great to see you guys out on the water especially with helpful friends. Thanks for showing us these areas! Beautiful! All the best, Richard 🇬🇧👍
Hey Steve, you should look at adding a mineral filter under the sink attached to the drinking water, you need to put some of the minerals back into the water you drink.
Doğan is very polite about your English mispronunciation of his name. the ğ is not pronounced and is used purely for joining vowels together. (dough-an) ç is a ch sound. ş is a sh sound. Have fun.
Yes Dogan introduced himself as Dogan with a hard G when we met. If was only in about day 5 we found out it was spelled with a soft g. He says he never tries to get English speakers to drop the g, sad really.
The Turks are historically excellent tradesmen. Funny thing is that they have taken over almost all souvenir and sports boutiques in old town Kotor in the last 5-6 years.😀
Oh, how I wished to have known you were visiting Bodrum! My most favorite charter boat, Capricorn 1 and it's Captain Eren & his wife Oz are stationed there in the winter between charters to Greece and Croatia. Capricorn 1 is most likely one of the Bodrum/Marmaris boats that you oooo'd and ahhh'd over -- she's a double-masted, classic beauty with all the brightwork bells and whistles that are right up your alley. Your friend may know them! If you go back there again, please tell them Susan from Oyster Bay NY said hello!
We will definitely be sailing down there in the spring and one of the things on the list is to get an interview with a Gullet captain & look around, so we'll look out for Capricorn
Be careful if you leave TR for GR as one couple who had residency and marina contract left for a short trip last summer and were not allowed back in as the 90 in 90 out kicked in for them.
Can I suggest that you get some powdered electrolytes to add to your water. I used to have an NSA water filter many years ago and it literally removed everything from tap water. I started to get emotional and physical issues until someone pointed out that I actually needed some of the stuff that the filter was removing. Cheers. Keep up the great work on the channel.
From the studies I’ve read they suggest only reverse osmosis units designed for brackish water that bring minerals down to below 20ppm are advised to remineralise the water for drinking and that’s when it’s supplied to very poor remote areas where the local diet is lacking so I’m not sure it’s necessary for us. I’ll drink more beer just in case!
It can be so pure that it takes several minutes more to boil than it would from tap water. Just put some grains of salt in there and everything will be OK. The pure water takes a long time to boil - no nucleus in there...
good words by your friend - people are people but politics - so sad - his attitude reminded me of the words of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk at Gallipoli - as an aussie visiting years ago for Anzac day Ataturk had a childrens day to celebrate the future and peace
I must have missed it - could someone please tell me what make/designer is Fair Isle? Thank you. To me, looks like a Panda, but I'm likely wrong. Love these two and their videos - so down to earth and real.

Looking forward to the water maker & battery install. Thanks for the videos!
The water maker video is currently on our Patron site. Set for general release in a few weeks time.
That evil eye (or, to put it better, evil eye countermeasure) works in Greece too, so you’ll be ok if you come over in the summer.

Nice story. Obviously for you guys it was just passports at either end, but what paperwork was needed for the boat at each end?
Checking in to Greece included Tepai for the month. No getting round it….

The costs vary so best to look on the website of the marina you want to go to.
Just wondering how you went about getting another card after the machine ate it?
Had to cancel it and order another, we will pick it up from the UK when we next go. Luckily we have other cards but it is a PITA as that was our Euros account, the others have a service charge on every transaction in Greece
haha our card got swallowed in Istanbul up at the Taksin - the lady tour guide cut thru the BS next morning and we had it back by 9.10
We also have an evil eye in the house since are holidays in turkey. Does it work ?
Absolutely!
Saw this morning that inflation in Turkey is 49%. How is that affecting you?
Well the exchange rate is very favourable for foreigners so we get a lot of Lira for our£’s now, it’s the Turkish people who will suffer

how are the prices for boat gear in Turkey?
Very good, they were always reasonable but the recent dip in the Turkish Lira has made thing very good for visitors
