Love that you guys are back! Anyways here is a 2 CAR GARAGE for you guys! You and your wife have been planning to upgrade your two cars, especially since you just received a significant bonus at work. With a budget of £150,000, you've been given full control over what to buy-mainly because you're "always talking about cars anyway." However, you've recently discovered that your wife is planning to leave you for a younger model. She's already lined up a good divorce lawyer and will almost certainly take what she perceives as the "better" car when the split happens. Now, you’re tasked with buying two cars: one that brings you immense joy, and another that offers a miserable ownership experience. The second car needs to look appealing enough to non-car enthusiasts so that she'll choose it, leaving you with the one you truly want. Choose wisely, or you might end up stuck with the lemon.
I wonder if it may be his internet connection. Chris has spoken of Apple products in the past, so I assume he has a MacBook of some variety. They usually have decent enough cameras in my opinion.
Maneshs dog story reminded me of a Kings Road PR agency I worked at 30 years ago. The owner had three labradors (golden, chocolate and black) that had the run of the office. Unfortunately the chocolate one had a stomach issue which meant it regularly threw up in the office. It was an unwritten rule that the nearest deb would get a mop and bucket and clean it up. The 90s, I miss them. #goodolddays
I once made 5 minutes on a colleague traveling the same way through a generic peak hour rush on the highway. I was in the van, he was in the Golf. One of the best days of my professional career. He was on a call and didn't care, and in the pre-SUV era the Transit van was amazing in traffic. You would see traffic moving and anticipate. Just glorious.
Motorway jostling: yesterday I drove along the M25 for the first time in maybe 15 years. I jostled a bit, right up to the point of watching a red Royal Mail pantechnicon firmly in the inside line move ahead by half a mile. But then, 10 miles further on and traffic had eased, we passed the Royal Mail lorry. Lesson learned. Gearshifts: there's so much to be said for the 2CV box with reverse and first in the same plane: makes such practical sense.
I was about to say the same. I had to look up the car model - it was owned by Storm Thorgesen who ran the seminal album art firm Hipgnosis. I don't know how cool the car is but the photo with the water drops is gorgeous.
Thank you gentlemen for your advice on my 2 car garage! It’s an absolute honour to get your feedback, especially as it was all bollocks. An impossible to find Panamera? A plastic Lotus? An auto Quattroporte? I know my name is common but no, I’m not the polygamous mate of Mr Cooper’s. Love the podcast and again, thank you for responding to my stupid challenge. Keep going, please!
Yes Neil!! with the Carpenters album! that record was part of my dad's collection, along with John Denver.... I was 1 when it was released, but by the time I had the power of memory I looked at it all the time... and by the time cars were under my skin... "I knew"..... to grow up in the 70's, start buying car magazines through the 80's and then to buy cars through the 90's (AX GT!)...and to finally make a dream purchase that includes all the greats through those decades up to - but not beyond - 2020....what a time to be alive
Hi Manish, Thank you for your wonderful contributions. If it’s not too much of an intrusion I would love to see a video on the 456, and the process of getting it to your perfect spec? The more detail the better! Thanks!
Chris I agree with the AX GT, adored mine. I did drop the gearbox linkage once with a spirited 4th to 3rd shift😬 That rev counter was a clock in all the other AX models. Brought back great memories that.
Chris Cooper, this is something I've been preaching about to my wife every time I get in the car and I go through this scenario with her about how the zipper effect works. I am so glad you brought it up. You're the only person I've ever heard mention this other than me to my wife every time there is long lines of traffic on the highway. All gathering in one stupid f*ING Lane!!! Much love from the U. S.
Week 4 and I just updated the "The Car Podcast with Chris Harris and Friends- MUSIC" I made on the famous music streaming site beginning with a S. I will continue to update this each week with the awesome song choices for the soundtrack of our drives.
Another great episode and thanks for discussing my 2CG a couple weeks ago. Great choices all around. Chris you're in luck with Clapton having a cool car on one of his albums. Although not on the cover, 1977s Slowhand LP has a picture of his crashed 365 GT4 BB along with an F1 Connaught inside the gate-fold. Cheers
My policy with motorway queues is get in the left hand lane as soon as possible at the start and keep in that lane and then watch the traffic around you and after a while get into to the quicker moving lane or if left is the best stay in it.
often if you view straight after upload then the quality is reduced a bit while youtube processes the video. watch it in an hour or so and it will be fine
GEARCHANGE! e12 M535i BMW. Dogleg 1st to 2nd gear a carefull challenge to be met but the sound of the gears (and the engine of course) brilliant. Totally looked over/forgotten car.
Excellent show appreciated as always, gents! I could comment on many things you covered but the highlight was Chris romanticising about the Citroen AX GT... Which was my first car back in '97. I couldn't afford (or insure) a Peugeot 205 GTI, so I bought a bit of a rough 1992 H-reg AX GT in red and did it up a bit with my dad (which in itself is a right of passage). It's built like an egg box and you can dent the panels by breathing on it, but such a fantastic little car. Third gear was sensational getting up in the revs and seemed to outrun almost anything! The car never felt safe at any kind of real speed and most things went wrong but it was such a special little car, to me anyway! If I saw one today I'd get more excited than any hyper car, and I'd love to pick one up but the prices for a nice one are a bit silly (as with all 80's/90's enthusiast cars). I haven't thought about that car for years, so thanks for a trip down memory lane! Good times...
My first car was an AX-GT in that exact color. Didn’t want a Nova or Fiesta as they were common as muck. Chris describes it perfectly, absolute rocket ship and put a smile on my face as much as any other Lambo, McLaren, Ferrari that I have driven.
It would never feature on a list, but i love the cover on the first Boom Boom Satellites album Out Loud. The guys with the Celica. Proper JDM from actual Japanese.
Having been an owner of an Evo 6 for 10 years I always chuckle at Neil's 'driving on ice' analogy of it. Great pod love you all and the Friday injection of Car nerdism and fanatacism. Keep it up!
My best 1st to 2nd gearchange was with my 6 speed tuned Vauxhall engined Caterham 7. At full chat on a dry road would surprise even superbikes let alone supercars 😃😃
Manish is high Priest of the order of the Tommyknockers…. He’s attempting to revive the dark lord from his slumber! Check out the ritual altar and offerings!! 😂 Love you guys, really do!! My weekly highlight is sitting in with you chewing the automotive fat. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
4:52 firstly, circuit of the America’s ball cap! Well done. I’ve driven that, and I read it as one of my most favorite tracks around the world that I’ve driven. Secondly, i’ve owned plenty of Chrysler products and some of them have been trouble free and others have been very average. For comparison sake, I currently own two Toyotas out of probably 10 or 12 my son‘s a Toyota engineer, I’ve owned many other makes over the years. Chrysler have been really good value overtime and I’ve really not ever been let down compared to the Fords that I’ve owned. As a point of interest, I graduated from Walter P Chrysler high school. Most of my family were employed at Chrysler as well. As well as my engineer Son before he went to Toyota. Fords and Nissans have been the worst experience for me. Although my recent Nissan frontier 2023 was really good. And bang for the Buck my new Corvette C8 is just a dream to drive. And I’ve driven lots of things Lamborghinis, Ferrari‘s Porsche‘s. I’m a member of Goodwood. I also a motorcyclist.
I have an alternative approach for the 2CG that might be a little more relatable for some the younger listeners, with some situational context. (see: those of us with not as much capital). You and your young wife (both mid 20s) are currently sharing your company car while trying to save up for the deposit on a house. It's an economical PHEV for the tax benefit. As an enthusiast who loves manuals and light weight sports cars this hurts you. Your wife finds new work that is no longer walking distance from home and requires a second car for you to share, she doesn't mind sporty cars. You see this as an opportunity to get a car that's going to be light weight, manual and fun to drive on the weekends that also does the short commute for your missus. Suggest a fun car that will not break the bank with maintenance or insurance (mid 20s and company car means no NC bonus!). Budget £12k sterling. Hard mode: No MX5
Thank you so much gentlemen. I’ve immensely enjoyed your feedback. I’ve come to a new conclusion. Keep the E39 M5, sell the others and buy a McLaren 12C that’s been properly sorted, probably from Thorney at Silverstone. I know, I know, not a manual but if Manish can go off piste, so can I. Gonna enjoy the Cayman 987.1 S 3.8 in late October then hibernate and watch the market. God knows what will go on out there. BTW, in China my daily is a Nio ET5T, the 490 hp, 700Nm estate with battery swop tech that Ben Collins presented on the Nio launch. It’s an interesting car. All the qualities of a fast estate, practical for long journeys as the battery swop works well in 3 mins. I’ve had it for 6 months and charge it at my office once a week. Free juice for me. The negatives of EVs are mostly due to lack of infrastructure, not because the cars are crap. The quality of Nio products is sensational. China invested in top notch infrastructure far ahead of any western nation, so it’s impossible for people living in the west to understand how good EVs can be in this ecosystem. If you want to really understand and think about the future, you simply can’t do it without experiencing China’s EVs in their home environment. I’m not saying that EVs are better than our beloved multi-cylinder petrol cars, only that they are inevitably part of the future. I agree with you guys, hybrids are also important. Governments are so fickle and influenced by big corporations that they really cannot make objective decisions on policies. Sorry for my rant! All the very best and please, for the sake of our sanity, continue with the best old farts discussions on cars! Oh yes, La Grange by ZZ Top
I'm with Neil. My first concern is how it looks and we have similar tastes because the pt cruiser is one of the cars I loathed with a vengeance when it came out. I didn't even know a convertible version was built. That is horrendous. I differ on the prowler. I actually like that thing and I found put later they had some go and were quite reliable. I would have a million cars to cross off a wish list before it came up but I do like it.
Here in the US, politicians did decide to impose a 100% tariff on Chinese EVs. Its already made for plenty of strange implications, not least of which being the new Lotus Eletre doubling in price from $100,000 to $200,000. Basically killing any slim market it may have had.
Thank you for your selection Chris! If you want want to try out a proper manual V8 Panamera (they made 96 V8s and 40 V6s world wide) I can comfortably say I got the only one with a single mass flywheel and smaller clutch (cut 50% of the weight of flywheel/clutch) with a proper 3 Way suspension on and you are welcome to use it as you please here in Sweden. Honestly Porsche did a quick job on that one to make one drunk journalist in UK happy, but I argue I sorted that out now and it now makes an M5 E39 seem like a very uninteresting choice ……
I’m surprised no one mentioned Chris Rea and Auberge Album with his Bugatti blue hand painted 1700 Caterham 7 Super-sprint on the cover… (another great episode gents) 👍🏻
48:01 I wanted it to be ZZ top so much 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Chris you are a legend !!! afterburner , eliminator , recycler , will always make me smile 😁😁 my dad has an Arai crash helmet with this airbrushed on the back , he kept it for best for so long the foam disintergrated 🤦♂️ , but this has reignited my 'want' to get a transfer / hydro dip / somehow get the pictire of eliminator onto my Arai all black crash helmet 30 years after Dads original !! 😁😁
1 - on the public transport over car, for me it’s about noises… if the car creeks or screeches, drives me insane. 2 - Jostling - what about those drivers who leapfrog traffic lines by taking a flyover straight, and rejoining a couple of hundred yards ahead?? Drives me nuts.
Love that you are back, Chris Harris. And I welcome your friends! The show is great. Here is one for you: What would each of you drive if you could have only ONE car you could drive for the rest of your lives. Could be a new purchase, an older car or one that you already own. BUT you have to do everything with it. And you could never drive any other car yourself. What would you pick? Cheers!
It’s Friday night, the sun is out, Harris and Friends are queued up, the kids are quiet in the back of the car… St Mawes here we come!! Perfect Friday night.
2 CAR GARAGE: You have found yourself in charge of procurement for the Interpol motor vehicle division. The current contract with your supplier has come to an end and the market is yours, with all manufacturers eager to have you as a customer. You have a need for a beautiful but understated 2 door with to help with some undercover work your agents may take part in on the continent, hopping from city to city, and doing so in style and comfort. Secondly, there is a need for something to handle a bit of work. Quick, reliable and worthy of all terrain yet can also blend into civilian life without drawing the eye of a nemesis. Unlimited budget.
@@giantpurplebrain Check out their collecting addicts playlist. Both CH and NC have added hip-hop songs on there. Chris has also mentioned being a hip hop fan and I remember a video of him and Neil Carey enjoying some very early music by Busta Rhymes.
2 car garage You’re doing an advertisement/social media campaign for a company providing garage sollutions. The campaign involves setting up a home for Kimi Raikkonen for a week. Your job is to provide 2 cars for Kimis garage this week. Your boss allready reached out to Kimi asking what cars he would like. Kimi responded «no shit! Make shure fridge is filled with beers». Your budget is 150.000 £. As a bonus your boss will let you keep one car of your choice, if the campaign goes well.
Love that you guys are back!

Very good!
Excellent
Bravo

The answers will be given to the sounds of thunderous applause at the genius of the question. Well played sir, well played.
Is Manish about to ritually summon the Prince of Darkness?
😂😂😂 Fantastic 😂😂😂

Can we all have a whip-round to buy Chris Harris a new webcam? We're watching 3 HD streams and a guy vlogging from a Nokia 3310. 😅
I wonder if it may be his internet connection. Chris has spoken of Apple products in the past, so I assume he has a MacBook of some variety. They usually have decent enough cameras in my opinion.
Monkey has an 4K setup, it’s his face that appears perpetually in soft focus.
He's blown the budget on the e60 touring, no chance of a new webcam for quite some time!
Panasonic bgh1 or bs1h are for sale now. Pro tools with power over usb, hdmi, sync
@@erbterbhe doesn’t want something that fiddly I bet
What a Great way to start a Friday,! Thank you
Loved the podcast you did with Joe Rogan! 💪
100% the right balance between nerdy car stuff and a fun to listen to chat - keep up the work guys. Already my new favourite car podcast!
So glad you're back Chris! The best in the business. Cheers!!!

We have found the jostler!
One of my favourite albums Eric Clapton - Riding with the King
Motorway jostling: yesterday I drove along the M25 for the first time in maybe 15 years. Peter Gabriel I is the best album with a car on it, and it helps that he used a Lancia 2000 which was rather good.
I was about to say the same. I had to look up the car model - it was owned by Storm Thorgesen who ran the seminal album art firm Hipgnosis. I don't know how cool the car is but the photo with the water drops is gorgeous.

How do I attach a pic of my Mini VP? It really is 1 of 1 in UK 😢
Another long one , love it ! 😊

Enjoyed the balanced and mature Tariff chat
Chris I agree with the AX GT, adored mine.
I did drop the gearbox linkage once with a spirited 4th to 3rd shift😬
That rev counter was a clock in all the other AX models.
Brought back great memories that.
So great having you back, proper Steve Wright mention - love the show!
Please never stop making this podcast

Citroen 2CV gear change 2-3-2 is sublime.
Completely agree.
It’s almost a dogleg 1st, maybe they copied Ferrari
Love that your back doing this.. can we get higher quality or at least a higher bitrate 720p? Looks like a video from 25 years ago.
often if you view straight after upload then the quality is reduced a bit while youtube processes the video. watch it in an hour or so and it will be fine

Come on Mate, that’s a bit scary!
GEARCHANGE! e12 M535i BMW. Dogleg 1st to 2nd gear a carefull challenge to be met but the sound of the gears (and the engine of course) brilliant. Totally looked over/forgotten car.
Chris rea’s album auberge featured a caterham with him driving it on it!
ZZ Top was the exact album on my mind 😁
Best car-related album? Billy Strings' Highway Prayers album. The LPs look like tires. Loving the show guys!
Best car cover album - Peter Gabriel 1 - great music and the car belonged to Storm Thorgerson
Released so early this morning!
The rear cover of Jamiroquai ‘Travelling Without Moving’ 25th Anniversary Vinyl edition ;-)
My first car was an AX-GT in that exact color. Didn’t want a Nova or Fiesta as they were common as muck. Chris describes it perfectly, absolute rocket ship and put a smile on my face as much as any other Lambo, McLaren, Ferrari that I have driven.
I love an s1 elise. Sucks we never got them in north America.
Excellent pod, guys. Happy Friday to all.
Very fond memories of my AX GT.
It would never feature on a list, but i love the cover on the first Boom Boom Satellites album Out Loud. The guys with the Celica. Proper JDM from actual Japanese.
This makes my Friday, glass of wine and you four set me up for the weekend.
Pete Rock and CL Smooth - Mecca and the soul brother has a MB R129 on the cover, it’s always been on my ‘one day’ list because of that album.
Beck - Hyperspace..... Great album cover with a car in it..... Helpful that it's a great album as well
Thanks Manish, push the Z4M hype!

There is, in fact, Mr Harris, an album cover by Eric Clapton with a car: Riding with the King, with B.B. King. It is a 1966 Cadillac DeVille Cabriolet

afterburner , eliminator , recycler , will always make me smile 😁😁
my dad has an Arai crash helmet with this airbrushed on the back , he kept it for best for so long the foam disintergrated 🤦♂️ , but this has reignited my 'want' to get a transfer / hydro dip / somehow get the pictire of eliminator onto my Arai all black crash helmet 30 years after Dads original !! 😁😁
How about The Beach Boys - Little Deuce Coupe as best car album cover?
The podcast is great as always. Thank you!
Performance family saloon should be a Panamera GTS. Always overlooked.
As an honorable mention for music album with a car on the cover, Clipse Lord Willin'. Hip hop/rap has a few good ones 😅
2 car garage- rs4 avant either 2008 rs6 avant and bmw mini GP2
Peter Gabriel, Car, is the only answer to best album cover.
I enjoy this podcast 👍🏽
Driving through Tokyo on the way home to Yokohama in the pissing rain, great timing ☔️🤙🏽☘️
Best Auto Podcast, except for the music bit.
@NeilClifford - re the 1st to 2nd gear change question - have you driven your Rocketeer yet?
Love that you are back, Chris Harris. And I welcome your friends! The show is great.
Here is one for you:
What would each of you drive if you could have only ONE car you could drive for the rest of your lives. Could be a new purchase, an older car or one that you already own. BUT you have to do everything with it. And you could never drive any other car yourself. What would you pick? Cheers!
Is it bad that I like listening to this podcast/show while I ride my bike?
Best album cover is Dave and Central Cee’s Sprinter! Tons of car references too!
Swap the friends for some cars man. You do great reviews
Hi team! Can we have a portion of next weeks episode discussing Bruno Sacco’s best designs / contribution 🙏🏽
Guys.
Please discuss if you haven’t already.
Most iconic car magazine cover shot.
The Cars - Candy-O great album cover
I’m disappointed no hip hop album covers were mentioned with a car feature. There are so many good ones
I suspect this bunch of middle aged nerds aren't the biggest hip-hop experts.
@@giantpurplebrain Check out their collecting addicts playlist. Both CH and NC have added hip-hop songs on there.
Chris has also mentioned being a hip hop fan and I remember a video of him and Neil Carey enjoying some very early music by Busta Rhymes.
10cc with the Healey outside through the window?
Oasis, With the tribute Rolls in the swimming pool ?
You could add ANY RACE CAR on the street to the list of things to avoid
Why did no-one mention Chris Rea's La Passione, with the Ferrari 156 Sharknose?
Happy Friday. 😊
Chrysler Crossfire is not so bad. Citroen Ami is perfect in town, fit for purpose by definition. LEVC win for Manish.
There's a ton of country albums with cars on them
For the AC/DC answer Chris Cooper gave, he could've easily gone for Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap because at least there's a DS in the background!
You guys should discuss the best looking car logo or logos
Neil where’d you get that COTA cap? Can’t find it online 😅
Manish is correct, there is no car worse than public transportation
One for the future. Do cooled seats work.
Beck: Hyperspace (and check out the gatefold)
Chris Harris, Christmas party comment……….legend :)
Surprised Chris Cooper didn't go for Chris Rea Auberge, being a Se7en enthusiast.
Did Hammish talk about his ferrari reupholstering this episode? 😂 Great podcast guys!
2 car garage
You’re doing an advertisement/social media campaign for a company providing garage sollutions.
