Abraham Labories - bass
Gary Novak - drums
Dave Valentin - flute

David Benoit - keyboards
Don Grusin - keyboards
RIP... my old friend ... David Valentin on flute.
Ritenour continues to be an influence on my playing 40 years later ;-)
Mr Valentin had a great personality on stage as well as being a fantastic musician.
Its a litte sad that he wants to be saxophonist in first place instead of flute player
@@Mike77154 He was a talented man for sure. He originally started out as a percussionist which explains so much - why he played the way he did.
Damned good keyboardist also. We all used to get together in a friend's basement on the CrossBronx Expressway; some absolutely great memories right there. He was a good friend and mentor who introduced me to some amazing players and did so much to put the jazz in my then heavy rock styling.
Is that ernie watts on sax?
@@josephmoss8680 áno.Ernie Wats.Skvely jeden z najlepších saxofonistov.Milujem túto muziku jazz Lee je neskutočný.Najlepsi!!! Abraham Laboriel je môj miláčik,tie grimasi asi čo hádže keď hrá.Proste jazz je najlepšia hudba ziad
Lee Ritenour on guitar, Abraham Labroriel Sr. on bass, and David Benoit on piano is a killer line up
Whenever I watch a group of musicians playing complex but amazing music together, it just blows my mind at how they are so perfectly coordinated from start to finish; their timing absolutely perfect all the way through. It's as if all their brains are wired together.
And not just for one small piece that you can fight hard to memorize, but an entire album spanning over 50 minutes, every small detail taken care of!
So very true , I’ve often wondered the feeling of jamming together like that . True ‘masters of their craft’ 🎶🎶
Exatamente é uma sincronia incrível 🎶🎸🎷

This is quite possibly the funkiest jazz band performance ever captured
Dave Benoit on piano is phenomenal!!!
It's a beautiful thing when everyone speaks the same language!
Abe Laboriel is just such a wonderful player.
And that kid on stage with him - Ritenour? - might make it some day. 😂 😂
On the serious side: Rio is a fantastic album.
This is an amazing Rio Funk version, this was shot 29 years ago and it's still one of the best. I was learning this tune when I was studying in the guitar college in 2004
Insane level of musicianship.
Right on! Of the myriad versions of that song I have seen/heard there is only one that I dig as much as this one. I'm talking about Lee's 2009 performance at the North Sea Jazz Festival, a very energetic blues-rock-fusion rendition. This one in Montreal sits closer to its Latin beat origins but there's already an undertone of something heavier in it. Nicely done.
Holy crap , is this what heaven sounds like 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶❤️❤️❤️
Abraham Laboriel sir...its an honor seeing you do your thing. Rest well, dear sir
Abraham Laboriel is a phenomenal bassist. Still going at age 75 I think.
I'm a 1963 👶 and love the music today just as it was yesterday and more TOMORROW
yes!
all of them MONSTER MUSICIANS but….Abraham Laboriel ? WOW !! Out of this world
That line Abe was playing at 7:30 was absolute fire, not to mention that pocket the drummer was in. My favorite part for sure and I love this song through and through.
Ah those Yamaha Recording Custom drums from the late 1980s.....Best performing drums ever( along with Gretsch Broadkaster )
こんなすばらしいライブ今まで見たことない!!ありがとう!
I just love how the spirit of Abe Laboriel's solo changed everything. I'm so glad that drummer joined in and he coined in properly. Not many people reach Abe's age and none the less can do what he do while doing what he loves to do. This guy is truly a blessing. And to my ignorance I actually didn't like him or his playing. Since then, I've grown as a respectable musician and see why he plays why he does. He plays how his soul feels...like a child with candy in one hand and a toy in the other :)
Dave Valentin Damnnnnnnnnnnnn Best Flute I can remember hearing!!
Abraham Labories on Bass Ok as I continue to Listen there is nothing but Great Talent on this Stage!!
That is the great David Benoit on keyboard prior to his arrival and recordings....he is a stellar talent on piano and compositions.
Laboriel not Labories
My favorite version of this. Dave's flute, Laboriel's crazy dancing bass, and of course Lee's prowess on his own tune@
I really miss Dave Valentin.
Also, so many great musicians here, too many to mention by name.
Credits should be given on videos.
Watched this in 1992, was a good tv show back then.
And it's hasn't aged a bit! A real classic jazz performance.
Incontournable 🔥🔥🔥🔥 avec Lee Ritenour,le flûtiste qui est magique 🙂👍❤️
Some of the best bass playing ever made!
Enourmous piano solo! The great David Benoit!
It's underrated. I can't get eough of how funky it is!

GRP was my first ever concert. I was 4 years old and saw them at the Circle Star Theater, San Carlos CA around his time period. I still remember Lee entering the stage like it was yesterday. Amazing group. Abe is an absolute BEAST!

Abraham Laboriel, ¡orgullo mexicano!
un fenomeno
To bad there was no energy on stage... smiles. EXCELLENCE. WOW!!!!
I watched this exact show on TV and decided that Bass was the thing for me :-) Started to buy all Kononia LP's i could find - Nick Beggs and Mark King helped a lot too.. Later Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.
It must be MAD fun to be one of the musician in the band!!!!!
Top 10 funkiest videos on youtube...
This makes it.
Abe, I wonder if this man everget angry. All the videos I've seen him, he's always smiling and enjoying that bass. I saw him in Johannesburg with Lee and Patrice Rushen. Enjoy your bass old man.
If you'd ask him, he'd tell you that it's the joy of the Lord!
Spectacular ! Oh how music was filled with Life back then :>)
Killer bass solo. Abe is da man!
Abe does not stand still.
When the Divine gives you a gift, you work hard, give your all, blood, sweat & tears & stay humble… this is the product… timeless divinely inspired straight to the heart

Look at the sheer feeling and emotion from the soul that comes out through their instruments! Pure feeling is what makes a great musician. What an electronic atmosphere they create! 👏
Recognised Ernie Watts's tone even when I wasn't looking at the screen!
Lee and Abe... while not forgetting the very very talented band, "match made in heaven" incredible stuff here my friends! Rio Funk Y'all!

R.I.P. Dave Valentín :(
Aguara Guazu I only heard through a friend this wonderful flautist had passed I felt very old and mortal, but thank you for all the music Dave still got all my GRP vinyl to listen to R.I.P Dave
It was a great loss to the jazz world as a whole and to Latin jazz in particular (both when he died and when his first stroke left him unable to perform). But the music he made lives on. It was a great treat for me to find this video of him performing with Lee Ritenour today.
Just awesome performance. These guys can jam. Musicians excellence.
Super bad! This is one my favorite songs, done with perfection.
Super badass!

I had totally forgotten this track, then it popped in after taking a stroll thru snarky puppy Lingus, it takes me straight back to uni getting blazed up with friends, what a laugh that shit was xD
Victor Wooten mentions Abe as one of his influences, saying Abe was doing a certain technique way before other bassists
Slap. Marcus Miller also mentions Laboriel as a pioneer of the style.
@@shanebarbermusic True indeed. Wooten being a full generation younger than Laboriel it makes sense that he would've been influenced by the latter when he was still growing up. In the case of Miller, he (Marcus) said Laboriel was an inspiration of his dating back to his pre-Miles Davis years. I reckon he's about 20 or so years younger than Laboriel. While Miller sometimes plays slap it almost always has funk overtones as it sits well with fusion. He's also somewhat more aggressive in style while Wooten seems to prefer the fundamentals and smaller bands, often trios.
This video is the best Rio Funk. I have watched 1979 version with bassist Marcus Miller, 1985 version with GRP, and the other. God bless you
드럼 정말 잘합니다,,, 제가 영어로 하면 재미 없잖아요^^
One of the best Rio Funk's on RUclips!
Fun fact: few brazilians, even cariocas (Rio citizens) know this song. Most of them because the Gm intro was the opening soundtrack of an TV GLOBO educational program: "Telecurso 2º Grau".
Nice to see/listen Dave Benoit in this tune too!
At around 7:15 we are no longer listening to music it's now magic we are listening to
all great musician. thanks for posting

real music played live by real musicians
As opposed to what? What is fake music?
Are there fake musicians?
How deep do you want to take this conspiracy
@@konan3968 i guess he's trying to say that this is how music should be. Musicians should be able to play on the same level whether it is live or in studio, unlike the pop stars today.
2:30 NÃO SEI PORQUE, MAS ME DEU VONTADE DE ASSISTIR UMAS VIDEO-AULAS
Ahhhh... se o Rio conhecesse esse FUNK... A cidade seria mais Maravilhosa ainda.
