Surprise!! Who knew there were a method as simple as this, the one you just did? I can now dry my eyes. Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge!!!! Great work.
I'm happy to help!
Thank you for showing this! I wondered how to achieve this! I have a crossbody bag that I bought a few years ago which looks like the manufacturer used a version of this technique - the strap comes out of the part where the zipper is not attached at the side seam - it's tacked to the zipper end I think. I'll have to experiment with this!
I'm glad you found it useful.
A bit of insight if you try to attach the strap, I would not attach it to the free end of the zipper as it will just pull the end of the zipper tape out. You may be able to somehow attach it to the seam allowance inside though.
Good luck! Let me know what you figure out.
Great tutorial. Once the final look is achieved, should the remaining zipper end be secured to prevent it from going through when using it?
You can if you like. I use larger zipper pulls, so I haven't really had an issue with them slipping past the end.
That’s really neat! I’ve never seen that before. Thank you!
You're welcome!
Just came across this on the other video you might be talking about! Mind has been blown after 40+ years of sewing! So can you achieve the look also with the top stitching along the zipper on the outer fabric? Love the top stitching look too! Or does it not work? Mind can't compute atm... Guess I'll have to try it and see... unless someone replies quickly and saves me the effort of which I have none right now. I'm in middle of winter PMS lay in bed watch other people sew and create mode. :-P :-D
I didn't topstitch this one, but there's no reason why you couldn't. I'd topstitch excluding the lining though, just in case that causes issues with the finished look.
This was really helpful , Thank you !
Glad it was helpful!
will this work as well with #5 zipper?
GREAT job, tfs...
You are so welcome!
Here from a fb comment section hehehe!!! Thank you and so well done! Subscribed!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you! Great idea using red clips to remind you not to stitch!
I'm glad I was able to help with the technique. Thanks! The red clip thing has come in handy quite a lot.
