For what it’s worth I’ve been sewing for roughly 40 years and was taught by my mother, who was an incredibly talented seamstress. I’ve made a shift recently from garment sewing to sewing accessories. I will also watch many tutorials on the same subject to gather bits and bobs on construction techniques. I’ve learned a lot from this video and would like to thank you for sharing your expertise!! ❤
@@vksdub7185No, you avoid sewing the the tabs at all cost. They is why she added the 1/8 turn of cloth. She will sew with a 3/8 seam and that 1/8 allows you to avoid hitting that tab. That total space was 1/2” only 3/8 of the 1/2 inch is sewn .
Myrna is there a reason why you cannot stitch the lining side down the same distance as the top side stitching ? That same area would be left free of the stitching .You would still have both seam area free. Have you ever had the lining get stuck in the zipper ?
Thank you. I think it's rather pretty too. If you check the date of the video, you'll see it was made right at the beginning when I was very much in the learning stages. Bravo Myrna. I can't believe how much I picked up from this quick video. An explanation of why you're doing, what you're doing, is the glue that makes an idea stick and it's missing from just about every other tutorial I watch. It's nice to be reminded that taking your time and properly pressing out seams makes a huge difference in the finished product. My mother taught me that, but I got caught up in all the quick-make tutorials out there and have lots of wonky pouches to prove it. I never understood the significance of the texture change on zip tape. Thanks to you, I finally understand where I'm supposed to sew to get a good result on my zippers. Also love your idea of extending the tab length a bit so you have a launch and landing area for the presser foot.
THANK YOU. Your detailed feedback is fabulous in helping me share what I know... which is what I really want to do... to support and encourage other's creativity. I love how one idea leads to another and if we just follow the path, it's an adventure of learning and fun.

Yes... they were quilted. My background is in traditional quilt making and then textile art and I find those techniques showing up all the time. Thanks for subscribing.
Thank you for this. I have made lots of pouches and have been topstitching the main fabric and lining together, right across. They come out much better like this.
You are very talented and speak/work at a good place. I am definitely subscribing. Just a few suggestions: At times the caption box was over what you were demonstrating. Also perhaps do a close up because I couldn't see where you were talking about when discussing stitching the texture line on the zipper. I think the color may have been a factor.
Thanks for subscribing and for the suggestions. I have no control over where the caption box goes BUT... if you click on the cog icon, you can turn them off. I'm not sure what device you're watching on but I find if I use full screen that I can see some of those details better and then compare it to... in this case... a zipper you have at home. Hope that helps. Thanks for the suggestions.
I had to subscribe no way around if I want to keep watching your amazing videos !! Is really well explained and easy ti do I love it!! Thanks again for the very explanatory description
Wow! I’m just a sewing for fun type person. Mom taught me how to thread my machine and a couple other things, but the rest I’ve trial and errored most errored. This tutorial was super detailed and way more useful than any of the hundreds I’ve watched trying to figure out the easiest, but most effective way to make a zipper pouch. THIS IS IT! You did it! Thank you!!
This video is really helpful and I appreciate you for taking the time to post this video. I hate to hear you’ve had trouble with RUclips but THANK YOU for keeping this post up!! You’re a great teacher!
Thanks. Not trouble with RUclips in that they have been difficult... just it changes so much that it's impossible to rely on and build around. I enjoyed making videos. My software expired just after I posted the knitting one and it's not in my budget to renew it right now especially as I'm Canadian and it's in US dollars. We'll see what happens.
Have you considered way of monetizing your channel? For example some RUclips presenters have a button for donations/“thank you”/“buy her a coffee”. I looked for one and did not see it. Your videos are excellent. Your skills are so helpful. You deserve to get “thank you” to help you with your costs!! P.s. I have no idea how you would actually do this, but I know lots of other presenters do. In fact, one of my favorite quilting presenters has it and hers is very cute.
@@ebf444 I've been away. Sorry for the delay in answering and thank you for the compliment. Yes. I was monetized and had a whole series of videos. I deleted those and just left this popular one. The thank you button is rarely used and when it is, RUclips takes a percentage of that as well so unless someone sends you their "tip" directly, it is significantly lower. With monetization, RUclips is in control. I made more money the first month I was monetized than the last because the rules changed and found that really frustrating that no matter how hard I worked or how many hoops I jumped through, the bar could keep moving.

I, too, love the square corners. Thank you for the video.

Thank you.
after watching, I realized you quilt the lining to the front piece of fabric.. thanks for the hammer tip! I just subscribed! Char
Yes... they were quilted. My background is in traditional quilt making and then textile art and I find those techniques showing up all the time. Thanks for subscribing.
Thanks for the lovely tutorial. Great job👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you. I appreciate the support.
Wow really nice pouches thanks for showing us how it's done ❤
You're welcome.
Love this tutorial. Very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you.
Fabric turn. Spectacular information thanks for the breakdown of this process. I've been struggling a wee bit when i make a pouch. 1/8 for the win.
You're welcome. I'm glad it was helpful. Turn of the cloth is another term that's commonly used. The thicker the fabric, the more turning room needed.
What a fantastic video! Thank you 😊

Thank you so much for making this video! After watching your methods, I was finally able to sew in my first "perfect" zipper.
YES YES - I'm so happy for you. Thanks for letting me know.
Thank you for this. I have made lots of pouches and have been topstitching the main fabric and lining together, right across. They come out much better like this.
You're welcome. Isn't it fun to learn something new. Enjoy.
Ok Myrna. Love your video! Have questions but will watch again and make it before I ask a questions you have already explained!
Thank you. Enjoy again!

And thank you for letting me know.
Love your use of colours.. beautiful patterns designs
Thank you.
Thank you for sharing! Love your fabric, and your flawless execution of the details!❤ You should be proud!

THIS IS IT! You did it! Thank you!!
You're very welcome. Thanks for commenting.

I like your colorful bags!
Thank you.
So many great tips in this video! Thank you!
You're welcome.
Thank you for this. Very clearly explained steps.
You're welcome. Enjoy.
