Great videos. In case anyone is wondering when you read your engine codes: cylinders 1,3 and 5 are in your drivers side starting in front headed towards the fire wall. 2,4,6 on the passenger side. If you change the plugs, you might want to replace the coil packs while you're at it.
Thank you! Very valuable information! I have had my 2002 for 19 years. Also, I think it might be 80K since my plugs have been changed by a shop. Doing it on my own this time. Your video took the mystery out of it.
Thank you for posting this. I am working on an '09 Commander, 45k miles. Never seen a spark plug set-up (friggin' coil pack) like this. I stood out in there in the driveway staring at the Commander engine wondering where in heck the plugs were at. Also have a '93 Cherokee with an in-line 6, a real engine that you can really work on. Thanks again.
Great videos man, no stupid music drowning out what you said, clear speaking, clear filming and great editing. Thanks for taking the time to make and post. Just got my wife one and I want to save some money by doing the upkeep myself. 2003 2WD Liberty Renegade with 115k on her. Getting a rough idle, check engine light with p300, p303 and p304 codes so hoping new coil packs, spark plugs and idle control valve will chill her out.
Thank you for this excellent tutorial ! First time I've changed the plugs, really enjoyed doing the job. I'm a KJ owner in the UK, if you're ever over these ways, I'll buy you a beer for helping save me some cash !! Best regards, Andrew
Thank you for a really good, intelligent and instructive 2 part video. I was able to follow the steps effectively without any music or lame attempts at levity to disrupt the sequence. Yes, the task is tedious, but with a little patience and resolve the results are well worth the effort. BTW, I gapped the spark plugs to 0.042 and torqued them to 20 in-lbs as specified in the manual. Thanks again!
@SweetSixty3 - Man, thanks for the good feedback. The whole reason I make videos is to help other people out, so hearing that it was beneficial to you was really cool.
Well i did loosen the coolant reservoir, and it did help me better with the removal of the spark plugs. I think its a good idea to remove it! Good tip!! Thanks again.
Marcus, glad to hear my video was of benefit to you and saved you some money.. especially around Christmas when I'm sure you could use it for something else.
FOLLOW-UP... Cruising on the highway between 70-75 MPG, I averaged 21.8 MPG (according to the on-board computer) before spark plug change. I drove again for an extended distance at the same speed and reset the computer and I now average 23.2 MPG.
If you have an access to compressed air, before removing the spark plugs, it would be good to give blasts of air around them just so that there would be less chances of derbies falling into the cylinders... thanks for a great video!
And very true what you say about losing parts. I lost the nut to that coolant resevoir. I then went and purchased a bowl with a magnetic base from an auto parts store. Its worth its weight in gold keeping track of parts. Yea, I did this before watching your video....
Awesome vid man! Those spark plugs sure are hidden! Now I'm going to download the video to my phone & help my Dad locate those pesky hidden spark plugs =D Thanks for making this video !
Great video, thanks for your help and suggestions! I found this to be one of the easier to follow videos. Any chance you can put recommended tools in your video description for quick reference?
replacing your oxygen sensors too should help. my mom's mileage on her lumina dropped and didn't return completely when we changed the plugs only, but returned completely when we changed the sensors but hers cost a ton where the sensor for my dad's 5th avenue was just 30.
The hose that was dry rotted i am also in need of two of them what is the correct name for the hose that comes from that air box to the silver pipe where it ends at?
Many thanks! My wife's '06 Liberty won't start if it's warmed up and hasn't sat for a good 30 minutes plus it feels like it's missing under hard acceleration. We're gonna' try new plugs. It's got 107k miles. NO idea if these are original plugs. Suggestion - tell us what plugs you used and the gap.
@ 143000 miles coils three of them burnt out and spark plug shot went to pep boys replaced all the coils and all the spark plugs $508 later just the coils alone is like $150 if you buy them at least it runs good now
Why do I only see three coil packs on my 2010 liberty.....? I want to change the plugs but don't see how to change the three on the left side of the motor?
The spark gap on a 3.7L engine is .040. I used Bosch Platinum plugs. I'm a not a certified mechanic, but what you're describing doesn't sound related to spark plugs, but at 106K they should be replaced anyway. Have your parts store plug in a code reader and see if it registers any codes. Leave a message for whatever you're working on and I'll scan/email the service manual pages for you...save you $25. My videos are all about saving money.
Need more details... will it stay running if you pump your gas pedal? Is the check engine light (CEL) lit? If so, can you read the codes? Did this happen after you changed something, or did it just start?
Oldpath, with 80K miles, I think you're due for a plug change. You should also check the Jeep websites for any recalls. I know there were recalls for the ball joints, so you should get that taken care of sooner rather than later.
Thanks a bunch man, I watched other videos and they show all the easy sections of how to replace a spark plug, but that last, one on the passenger side, was a Bitch (lack of a better word).
Excuse me I meant 044. This is what I looked up check your owners manual but different plug manufacturers suggest different gap sizes it's all a racket the world is a dishonest place and not as knowing and good as we make ourselves believe

Hi. Very awesome, instructable, and knowledgable video! Thanks!
thanks for taking the time to put this up. Its a pain in the A$$ job for sure.

Thanks for demonstrating how to access the ones on the passenger side!
I have a 2007 Liberty and luckily it has easy access to the plugs
Thanks for the post, it really helped and made an easy job of it. Again thank you for the easy to follow video...
Great video, thank you so much, you saved me so much time and money!
Awesome vid man! Those spark plugs sure are hidden! Now I'm going to download the video to my phone & help my Dad locate those pesky hidden spark plugs =D Thanks for making this video !

Very informative. Thanks
Thanks for the video, I average 17 to 18 miles per gallon. I got 136,000 miles on mine. I think they are original plugs
It will be interesting to measure your new MPG after a plug change.
@ 143000 miles coils three of them burnt out and spark plug shot went to pep boys replaced all the coils and all the spark plugs $508 later just the coils alone is like $150 if you buy them at least it runs good now
+john doe You can get them for $16 each for this vehicle at Amazon with 5 star reviews.
That you for the video. I will replace the reservoir with a new one, so I will take it off completely out of the way.
Why do I only see three coil packs on my 2010 liberty.....? I want to change the plugs but don't see how to change the three on the left side of the motor?
Any help with the socket set you used?
Great help! Thank you
Thanks for watching. I'm glad I could help.
For a set of Bosch spark plugs 14 mm 5/8 thread over compression ring on one of these 3.7 liter liberty jeep 6cyl 4wd's spark plug gap is o.44

Hello Mr. can you tell me what is the Seafoam for?
Hi. Did the check engine light come on? were there any misfire codes?
Yes, I did get a misfire code that prompted me to do this (long overdue) maintenance.
