Led Zeppelin are the best because they have all the components needed for a perfect rock band, each of the band members is brilliant on their instrument, Robert has a perfect voice, the songs are receptive, the band didn’t stick to one style of music, they were open to experiments, the lyrics are very high quality and sometimes very poetic. It's all a recipe for GOAT.
Few are the songs where it's not just OK, but actually required, to react to both the live and the studio versions. This song is one of the few, the proud, the legendary.
Listen to Dazed and Confused, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Whole Lotta Love (their first big hit in the mainstream market), Stairway To Heaven, a rock classic & probably their most well known song. Listen to the original studio version first, then a live version, then the Heart version on an evening honoring the band.
GREATEST ROCK SONG EVER RECORDED! Harri, I'm SO glad you came back to do the studio version. IMO, the studio version is the best version for 95% of songs, so I always recommend reactors do the studio version first, then live, and then any covers if worthy ones exist. Now, when you react to the studio version of, "Whole Lotta Love", do NOT use the Official Music Video!!! I cannot emphasize this strongly enough!!! The reason is because they (someone) inexplicably cut out FORTY-FOUR seconds from the song's psychedelic bridge! And what's so effed up about that is that it's the Official Music Video, posted by the official Led Zeppelin RUclips channel. WTF?! lol I don't understand it, for the life of me. But, no worries, all you need to do is select a different link of the studio version. I'll post a good one here for you. But in case it doesn't show up for you, just remember this: the studio version of the song is 5 1/2 minutes long, and so whatever link you choose, make sure that is the running time, give or take a couple seconds. Here's the best link, IMO: "Whole Lotta Love", studio version, remastered: ruclips.net/video/oaSk5vnAVJ8/видео.html
From the 1st cymbal crash, we are transported to another place outside of ourselves. The repetitive nature of the drone motif is mesmerizing almost trance inducing. One of my favorites. Thank You, Britain!
This is my favourite song by my favourite band. Kashmir is absolutely epic. It's an amazing work that is, all at once, hypnotic, enigmatic, elemental, intense, mystical, and sublime. Kashmir will forever be Zeppelin's magnum opus with a groove of thunder.
John Paul Jones, actually played the ''Orchestral" sounds on a early keyboard (sampler) called a ''Mellotron''. Pressing a key, made the tape move & contact the head, It played until the ribbon of tape ran out, or the key was let up, then a weight pulled it back to the start. Each tape had three tracks (recorded sounds) - tricky to play live.
Robert Plants voice, so powerful and unique. Jimmy Pages guitar work, simply superb. John Paul Jones bass, so special and underrated. Bonzo's beat, with the splits, fills changes in tempo and rhythm. I don't think any other drummer could have matched John Bonham! The complexity of Zeppelin put them way ahead of their time.
Hello from Chicago! I quite enjoy your reactions...and this is no exception! You hit it spot on: the live version has an energy and intensity that there "ain't no denyin'". But what I love about the studio version is that it's so perfectly produced. You hear everything so clearly. You hear the raw, relentless drive of Bonzo's drumming, you hear the building passion of Robert's voice, the steady groove of Jimmy Page's guitar, Jonesy's impeccable arrangements of synthesizers, Mellotron, orchestras, violins and brass. You can't get much better than this. If you want an excellent live version, you should hear the live performance of this song that Robert Plant and Jimmy Page performed on MTV in the 90's on Unplugged, or as they retitled it, MTV Unledded--they performed it with an Egyptian and a Moroccan orchestra, it brings me to tears every time!
I love music of all kinds, genres, time periods etc etc, but Kashmir is my favorite song. So powerful, yet mystical....only Zep could produce this masterpiece. Bonham drives this song to a different level...Kashmir
great reaction harri. john beat the hell out of those drums! listen to the studio version of " when the levee breaks" to hear one of the best driving drum beats
I am not a huge Led Zeppelin fan. I don't think I have ever listened to this song. The underlying rhythm reminds me of a James Bond movie. Thank you Harri for the listen.
Love your reactions Harri. Love your selections. This is my favorite band. But even as a person raised on rock. I listened to soul back in the 70's as well. Wasn't really into Disco. But if it was on the radio. I listened to it. I just like music if it's good. Take care bud. And may God Bless you and yours.
There are several live versions. The best was done msny years after the release with an orchestra and Indian Musicians. I consider that the ultimate version.
Welcome to the World of Led Zeppelin. Now there is a 3rd version of this song and it's on the album No Quarter ( 1995 ) you will be amazed I assure you of that. Thanks from Down Under.
The 2 most popular live versions are both great and it's always fantastic to see such charismatic and talented performers/musicians performing live but some things are missed in those performances. Most notably, JPJ's Middle-Eastern organ passages are somewhat lost, whilst in the studio version they're clear as day and really elevate the song. I didn't notice the studio version being significantly slower either, or Plant's studio vocal being any less impassioned. Perhaps it's because you heard the live version first? I'm not sure. I'll have to go and check them out again. I've seen/heard the live versions untold times... but any excuse! ;) :)
You’d really appreciate this song much more, if you chose the live rendition of it . The video of Led Zeppelin doing Kashmir at Knebworth 1979 is phenomenal. Their live performances are so much more than the recorded version.
Robert plant vocal.john Paul Jones bass ,keyboard. John Bonham drums .jimmy page guitar. John died in the 80s.then the band broke up. Robert said this was their signature song and his favorite.
Harri! I hope to catch you in the comments to find out why my posts in the members only community section have been overlooked. Am I putting my requests in improperly? Let me know. 🤔🌺✌️
I hope I can do this clearly while in the throes of ecstasy over this song. This song never fails to transport me to an oasis in the desert with a train of camels. This is by far my favorite from Zepplin. Far superior to the rest of their catalog. Many people prefer "Stairway", which is good, but this one has held my imagination since I was 12. This album was the first from them that I purchased. Please check out my next favorite "Bron-Y-Ur Stomp" There is a good live version at Earl's Court here on RUclips. Thanks!
I love studio versions usually the most because it's so clean and clear - HOWEVER I will say that for this song my favorite version is live by PAGE & PLANT at Irvine Meadows amphitheater when they added an Egyptian band and the Santa Monica City Orchestra - it put a much heavier emphasis on the Egyptian sounds, it stretched it out and the orchestra was amazing too!
John Bonham RIP smashing out the drums like a monster metronomically striding through the desert Robert and John, two Black countrymen givng it some proper 'ommer
Your videos always make me smile and this was no exception, cool that you've checked out both the live and studio versions of this song. WOuld love to see you check out Car Radio by twenty one pilots
Some of those Plant notes are slightly flat... and it's how it should be. Bonzo's drumming is more restrained than his son's. This is Plant's favourite Zep song to sing :)
I think this song is based on the old silk road to Kashmir by way of China. Silks and spices and religion and information passed east and west . For centuries.
Harri, if you'd like to hear another great British Band give a listen to some Savoy Brown. Start of with Tell Mama. Good stuff & I promise it will have a toe a tapping.
Believe it or not, the very best version of this song is the 2007 Celebration Day concert version. Robert’s voice and interpretation are even better than this. And Jimmy and JPJ are as good as ever. Jason channeled his dad that night and was fabulous! I think you watched the Knebworth 1979 version before.
I apeal PLEADE TRY THE 50'S GROUP THE COASTERS THEY HAVE SUCH WONDERFUL SONGS ( ALONG CAME JONES( CHARLIE BROWN( YOUNG BLOOD AND MANY MORE PLEASE MR HARRIE
The problem I have had with LZ, is that Jimmy Page never seemed to play the song the same way twice - not that he couldn't, he just always was improvising. So, after hearing the studio version on your album or radio then you hear the live version, it would be different. Not bad, just different than you expected. John Bohnam would also improvise somewhat too - actually I think they all did to a degree. Sometime it almost sounded like a different song - but not quite - you would always know what they were playing. I guess, the studio versions spoiled me and then the live version always left we feeling like I missed something - with exception of course. So don't everyone come at me and say - you have to hear this version from this concert. I am just speaking in general. So, in GENERAL, I prefere the studio versions. An exception I can think of would be John Bohnam's Moby Dick, and there are others too - jmho.
I agree, the large majority of Led Zeppelin's magic happened in the studio. Live they were hit or miss for myriad reasons: drugs/alcohol (mostly affecting Page), Plant's throat surgeries, and the fact that Jimmy layered guitar tracks in the studio that he, as one man, couldn't possibly replicate live...even with a double-neck guitar. But when they hit on all cylinders, Holy Moly! Plant said it best in a Charlie Rose interview a few years back, about their live performances: "Some nights we were shit. But some nights....some nights, we were the greatest thing to ever walk across that stage."
I have exactly the opposite feeling. I've never wanted to go to a concert so I could hear album perfect replays of a band's repertoire. The fact they never played any song the same way twice (I'm speculating here) is what I find most interesting about Zeppelin. If I wanted to hear the album version, I've already got that at home.

Always loved the mystical eastern feel of this song-- the imagery is potent, and the groove is hypnotic..
check out the live Page N Plant at Irvine Meadows version - it's heavy on the middle eastern sound
@@Prone2Thrill I think I heard that version once, many years ago. Thanks for the tip, all the same ! ✌🎶
I’m so happy that you chose the studio version. Impeccable ✌️
What’s wrong with the live version ?
Few are the songs where it's not just OK, but actually required, to react to both the live and the studio versions. This song is one of the few, the proud, the legendary.
This song has a few great variations they've recorded through the years. It'd be an incredible journey by itself.
All the brass and violins you hear is JPJ using a keyboard and a Mellotron.....he layers the sounds through-out the song.
This song begs for full orchestral treatment. So anthemic.
They were, are and WILL ALWAYS BE the ultimate rock band…
John Bonhams drums on this track are just otherworldly! It sounds like the footsteps of some gigantic beast!
Check those double bass drum taps.
The bass drum sounds so deep and prominent! My favorite LZ song of all time. Bonham was the greatest drummer ever. ❤️
So glad you reacted to the studio version as well; the drums hit your soul!!!!! The orchestra, good God.
It’s a pleasure Harri to listen and watch your reaction to these rock icons! These guys are just the best!
Yes, absolutely: studio first, live second, covers third.
Time to settle back and mellow out...
👍🔥🌿🍹
This is the perfect MASTERPIECE.
Kashmir is a masterpiece in controlled tension.

Love this song. I think I love it even more than Stairway to Heaven. The end of the song gives me goosebumps every time.
This song was written while they were touring in Morocco. The beat always reminds me of how it would feel to ride a camel.
From the 1st cymbal crash, we are transported to another place outside of ourselves. The repetitive nature of the drone motif is mesmerizing almost trance inducing. One of my favorites. Thank You, Britain!
My favorite Zeppelin Album.😎
Oh my, harri can you just hear those drums dam awesome 🥁🥁🎶🎶🎶🎶💞💞💞💞💞💞
Loved your reaction to my favorite song by my favorite band!
This could quite possibly be the Greatest Rock anthem of all time.....
In the opening of the song I envision a genie instantly transporting me in a plume of smoke to some enchanted, desert oasis. 🧞♂️ 💨 🏜
Welcome to a larger world of beautiful music from true musicians.
This is my favourite song by my favourite band. Kashmir is absolutely epic. It's an amazing work that is, all at once, hypnotic, enigmatic, elemental, intense, mystical, and sublime. Kashmir will forever be Zeppelin's magnum opus with a groove of thunder.
This live at Knebworth in 1979 is magnificent!
I believe this was not live but studio version.
A Masterpiece from the amazing Physical Graffiti album!! ♥️♥️♥️🎼🎵🎶🇨🇦
The definition of Primal. My all time favorite song from Led Zeppelin
John Paul Jones, actually played the ''Orchestral" sounds on a early keyboard (sampler) called a ''Mellotron''. Hi Harry, I really enjoy your reactions. They feel very honest and heartfelt.
Thanks so much. Keep up the led...
Harri, thanks for sharing this song. Great song from a great band! You rock my man.
Please , please do more led zeppelin ! Since I’ve been loving you would be a good place to start
Robert Plants voice, so powerful and unique. Jimmy Pages guitar work, simply superb. John Paul Jones bass, so special and underrated. Bonzo's beat, with the splits, fills changes in tempo and rhythm. John Bonham, was one of the greatest drummers in the world.
i have to correct you.......he IS one of the best drummers in the world
still is
One example of many why if you google who is the greatest rock band ever you will always find them in the top two or three ever! GOATs

That song is an ode to the Kashmir hashish who was prevalent in the 70'.
Thank you Harri for this one. My favorite Led song.
I love music of all kinds, genres, time periods etc etc, but Kashmir is my favorite song. So powerful, yet mystical....only Zep could produce this masterpiece. Bonham drives this song to a different level...Kashmir
I prefer the studio version. Glad you revisited it.
The band was never the same after Bonzo's passing..and what a kick drum did the man posess.. wow.
My #2 Zep song...#1 is When the Levy Breaks
Great reaction 💯 Best band ever really....who can compare to a song like this??? Keep the Zep coming ✌️
One of the biggest hits from 1975 ,, I LOVE THE 70s

For a great drummer song, listen to the studio version of "In My Time of Dying" also from the Physical Graffiti album.
Jon Bonham, the drummer, was the BOMB.

YES, this is Arabian, the sitar is more eastern. String players were brought in and Jones added mellotron as well which can imitate string sounds.
If you want to get a real taste of John Bonham`s drumming skills..."In my Time of Dying" is it. John went straight Primal on the drums in this song!
Listen to their BLACK DOG or WHEN THE LEVEE BREAKS or NO QUARTER.
Have you reacted yet to the studio version of "Over the Hills and Far away?"
I honestly like their live performances better.
The true goats of rock period and there are many great ones but sell rules
Some of those Plant notes are slightly flat... and it's how it should be.
Bonzo's drumming is more restrained than his son's.
This is Plant's favourite Zep song to sing :)
Moby Dick live from Zeppelin if you want to see Bonzo at work. I think it's 1973, 15 minutes of mostly drum solo.
Tight !?💖😁😎🤑

Maybe try live versions once you already know the songs.
Or What is and what should never be
This song is ok but my fav Zeppelin song is "Whole lotta love" ☺
I prefer the studio version
There was no more possibility to have Led Zeppelin after John Bonham died. It would have been the same if any one of them died.
