Hi David! I'm interested in this field and will look more into it, but the only thing is that I'm not sure how to get myself into the settings. More clearly, how were you able to shadow in many settings, did you request to volunteer, or did you apply as an assistant? What would you recommend to me?
I started out volunteering in rehab, hand therapy and mental health. In school I did my rotations I hand therapy and rehab. My first job at the hospital in acute care hired me without any prior hospital experience. Home health and Skilled nursing didn’t really care that I didn’t have any direct experience either since I had worked in rehab. The only experience I don’t have is pediatrics because I never worked in any of those settings. Hope that helps. Best of luck!
Hi David, thanks for all your info! Do you have any thoughts on the difference between an MOT and OTD? From my research, it sounds like OTD is a good path for people who want to do research in the field and go on to teach as professors in OT. MOT sounds like the path for people who want to exclusively work as a clinician. Additionally I’ve found that MOTs and OTDs make roughly the same amount as entry level practicing clinicians and there’s no preference in hire-ability. I’d love to hear your thoughts
I agree completely. If you don’t want to do research or teach just get your masters. You can always get your doctorate if you change your mind later. I had a professor that taught with her masters as she worked on getting her doctorate. I’ve worked with OTs with bachelors, masters, and doctorates. There’s not a difference unless you want to teach.
@@otfocus This is all great info, thank you! I read that AOTA has talked about changing all MOT programs to OTD programs by 2027 and schools are beginning to phase out MOT programs and transition their programs to OTD. Do you have any idea if MOT programs are more/ less difficult to get into because of this?

Is there any exams like RN for nurses in ot field?
I’m not sure exactly but I know there aren’t any transfer programs for an RN. You usually need to have an OT degree from your country and take additional testing.

So nice of you. Thanks for commenting. I'd love to learn more about what it's like being an OT in Turkey :)
