    Hi HK, a much-needed post, but do you think custom ROMs will work on lower end old devices like the Samsung galaxy ace s5830i? I have seen my friend flash ROMs in that and I have seen the device becomes very slow. So is there any way to make it fast? or I would have to buy another phone and move on? Thanks in advance

    I've always used twrp but this seemed simpler? Is Cwm compatible with all the latest roms as I've read in some of the threads to only flats with twrp and never really understood how it made a difference?

    • @TheAndroidGuy
      @TheAndroidGuy  9 лет назад +1

      +DipsyMum29 Yes,Twrp has some bells and whistles.But since Cmw is the O.G of custom recoveries,its compatibility is better than twrp,and is very basic with important features served in a simple manner.I Do have twrp on my other phones,its better and easier to navigate than cmw,but since most people watching this video have cmw on (as it supports all the older devices as well as all the newer ones too),So made a video showing cmw,you can also try twrp,filz,cyanogenmod recovery,etc,etc.The set of instructions shown in the this video is same on every other custom recovery as almost all the recoveries that came after Cmw,has the names and titles based on cmw.

    • @TheAndroidGuy
      @TheAndroidGuy  9 лет назад +1

      +The Android Guy And Ya,you will need Twrp to do certain try of tasks like mounting an otg,selective partitioning,etc
      Like wise you will need cmw to do things like dual boot 2 roms,etc
      If you are only into roms,them anyone will do
      Hope that helps

    Is Cyanogenmod and Custom ROM is same or different?
    When I am searching for Custom ROM for my device it is showing the results which are for my device. But when I am searching Cyanogenmod for my device it is showing some other cyanogenmod not for my device.
    Then I have only Custom ROMs for my device but not cyanogenmod. In video you have used cyanogenmod. Bit last version of this video you used custom ROM. Can you explain please?

    Nice video and really helpful if you are new to this.
    I would really like to see a video on explaining how to properly partition your external SD card (probably with AParted) to be used with the Link2SD to transfer apps and game data to your external SD but also to use your external SD Card for more RAM. For example I want to do it in my tablet with a 32 GB micro SD card. But not sure how to properly do it to not only transfer games to my external SD but also have more RAM from it. I did some digging on it and didn't find anything that explains on how to do it to have both. So I think if you make a video on this it would help lots of people. Both for them who either wants more space or more RAM or like me who wants both.
    Thanks

    • @TheAndroidGuy

      Use your internal memory simple. Internal memory and flash memory and two different things. Only the flash memory is wiped when you install a rom. The data on the internal memory including the backups and not wiped unless you manually format the phone from the recovery. Just be safe, take a backup of the custom recovery backup on your pc

    this is the most in depth video I have ever seen on flashing a ROM...... thanks a lot and keep up the good work. but how do I backup my phone if its a phone which doesn't have an SD card slot

    • @TheAndroidGuy
      @TheAndroidGuy  9 лет назад

      Even my phone didn't have an SD card the whole time. Its just that the Internal SD(phone memory) and external sd (SD card) are both named as SD on the recovery.only the stuff on your device flash memory will be wiped and the SD memory will be safe So all internal or external SD be safe and backups will be saved in your internal SD memory.
      Good luck

  • @Dean7748

    What modifications did you make on the stock ROM?
    At first, I thought it was a regular Galaxy Note 5 ROM. But if it's really stock, tell me. Please. How?

    • @TheAndroidGuy
      @TheAndroidGuy  9 лет назад

      Its a near stock based rom based on the official s6 rom. Aesthetically its identical to any another touch wiz based rom that comes on Samsung devices. If you look closer, I have changed the screens DPI and tweaked with the colour and contrast settings due to which the images and the rom looks crisper even though the display is a previous generation display
      The Speed of the rom is increased and hardware acceleration is forced turned ON from the developers option

    • @TheAndroidGuy
      @TheAndroidGuy  9 лет назад

      And that's pretty much it. No major tweaks. So it's a stock touchwiz based custom rom which is made to look like (themed on) s6's rom.
      Hope that helps

    But If the Phone doesn't have any sd card support than where should I have to create the Backup of my intire ROM.Suppose I'm create a backup in my pc and in flashing process my phone doesn't Boot than how can I rollback it because it has no sd card support

    • @TheAndroidGuy
      @TheAndroidGuy  9 лет назад

      +Tarandeep Singh Usually a device has Two or threee Memory partitions
      1.Flash mmc
      2.Storage/int-sd mmc
      3.ext-sd mmc
      Since,your device has no sd card slot the rom and backups are stored on the internal storage or int-sd mmc which is not affected by wiping the phone (format and cache partition wipes) only the flash mmc is wiped.So all your external data,media(if on the sd memory),backups etc will not be affected.JUST Don't wipe your SD in the custom recovery and you will be good.plus your pc will still recognize your phone even when your are on the custom recovery menu.If hypothetically if your device gets bricked,and for some reason you lost both the backups (on the phone and on the pc).You can still connect your phone to your pc and flash a custom rom through your pc.
      SO NO RISKS WHILE FLASHING ROMS
      Hope that helps

      Thats not a bootloop screen,You booted into the "Download mode"
      Simply go to the custom recovery and restore the backup that you should have made.If you didnt make a backup,Flash another rom but make sure that the rom is made for your specific device.If you cant boot into the custom reocvery (very rare) the google search "How to unbrick "your model number" which basically includes flashing the stock firmware on your device though odin software from a pc

      what's the error.an error statement or code should be written before the 'Installations aborted' message.Without the specific code its hard to tell.could be many thing. Corrupted ROM,Data and cache not cleared,ROM needed expansion of memory partitions ,Wrong ROM file.etc.etc.
      Try another ROM.do tell.me what happened

      Mirror - Alternator download link
      There are 100s of rom for your device. Try AOSP Marshmallow rom for Tab 10.1

    dont know what i did wrong but i did backup and after i did factory reset and wipe data and cache it deleted my rom file
    and i cuold not use it after i got the file via pc to the sd card

    • @TheAndroidGuy
      @TheAndroidGuy  9 лет назад

      You accidentally wiped your internal memory which contained the rom file.No issue though, Flash a stock rom/custom rom

    • @TheAndroidGuy
      @TheAndroidGuy  9 лет назад

      Your rom didn't come with Playstore pre installed. You can either flash a compatible version of gapps.zip or manually install the lastest version of both playservices.apk and playstore.apk form the Internet. Read the description for more info
