Congratulations for another keiki monk seal birthed at Kaimana. Glad to see the beach is given over to the short time it takes for baby to become independent. Glad to see everyone interviewed is
    on the same page.

As much as we love animals, this is ridiculous.

That's definitely a Californian couple and seals are nothing on the West coast. They have no clue about this being anything particularly special or rare.

California people know more about their ocean than you think. We are the home of the Marine Mammal Center that rescues all kinds of marine animals. This center had Ho'Ailona, now
in the Waikiki Aquarium. He has bad cataracts and couldnt be returned to the wild. From Oakland CA

@@sandramorey2529 Didn't mean to offend, what I was saying is that seals are practically pests to fishermen on the Pacific coast and there's no particular awe about them like the ones that are so protected and rarely sighted over here. We don't have populations of common seals just hanging out all over our coastlines here. So it's understandable why someone from the West coast would be like "oh, a seal."

Please respect Hawaii. Just because you are tourist, doesn't give you the right to hover over animals on the beach. I've seen hundreds of people nearly touching the seals of Hawaii. I've reported them but to no avail. Please to all tourists, think of the next generations. There won't be anymore endangered wildlife of Hawaii if people keep causing them stress. When you go up to wildlife even in the water, you cause them to have stress which releases adrenaline in the animal, wreaking all kinds of havoc on their bodies that we cannot see. Think about it, they come on the beach to rest.....Would you like someone hovering over you taking pictures when you are trying to sleep????? Imagine all day long, tourists...hundreds of tourists, taking pictures non stop from the time the sun comes up and when it goes down. How could you sleep if people did that to you????
The signs tell people to give the animal 50 feet yet people are within arms reach. They blocked it off because even with the signs up, people don't listen. That baby monk seal deserves the fighting chance to live in an environment where she's not exposed to stress all day long- from the time it was born. Please respect the wildlife of Hawaii...or there won't be anymore for Future Generations.
There is no excuse. With the amount of information easily availble with just a few clicks on the internet, you can easily learn how to be around seals, turtles, dolphins, etc. in Hawaii. Do your research before you come on Vacation. Please, Hawaii is all about Ohana. The animals, the people and even the land is our family. We are all one.
