I just made my 2nd batch... I add 2 Tbsp. of water and 9 dates (rather than 6), making them the best brownies I've ever had. Also, please note that the cookbook calls for 1.5 tsp baking powder (not 1 tsp) - thanks so much, I really love them!
About 26/27 years ago I made a cake made out of pinto beans. I had a Mexican cookbook. It was delicious. The kids thought it was delicious as well. Of course, I used egg whites for the leavening. Possibly chick pea water would be good in this regard. It really was a good cake.
All the variations: I had date syrup in the house; used half a cup. I added 2 tsp of Aquafaba, and it was probably too loose. It would have been perfect had I not added the extra liquid. I also added a touch of cinammon, just for kicks. Jaroudis this was amazing. It turned out as close to what I expected as any online recipe ever has in my kitchen. Solid raves at a not especially traditional Passover seder, and easy-peasy. I never got around to telling everyone about the black bean base, but my grandkids want more.
Thanks so much for this recipe!! I substituted cacao for carob, not bitter at all! I also added more dates and made a frosting with cashews, dates and carob 😁 Delicious 😋
Looks pretty good. Definitely going to give it a try. I'll check out the cookbook too. About the scant amount of salt - I know you said you couldn't tell the difference without it. Just an FYI as to why salt is added to baked goods - even if it's just scant. Salt activates the leavening agent in baked goods so you get a nice rise in the finished product. Not adding it will yield a much flatter end product; cupcakes or brownies won't rise. I know you're salt-free. Just thought I'd explain the reasoning behind why salt is added to baked goods. Thanks for sharing.
First time making these. I was surprised by the texture. I expected like a wet date bar but once cooled the firmness was like cold refried beans. I may have to tweak the recipe some, more dates with less cacao powder, soak the dates with the flax so I don't add too much water, idk. I was intrigued that I couldn't tastes the dates more. Thanks for sharing. :)
I love that these are made in the individual cups. I need automatic portion control, or my 2-inch square will expand to 3 (or 4) inches! Thank you so much for sharing!
Can’t wait to try these and check out that cookbook! I always crave chocolate at the end of the night, so this will be a nice guilt free option! Do you ever store them in the freezer?
I tried the recipe, it turned very dried and with a matte color, I could taste the black beans, my husband and I couldn't eat them. As Kefir mentioned, it needs more dates, or syrup or honey. I did the first batch in a tiny muffin cups, the rest of the batter instead of throwing away, I mixed it with my banana apple sauce brownie recipe and the results were great. BTW, I love your glasses and you looks so alike to my Peruvian niece (20), she also loves to bake and wear glasses :o)
Thanks for the recipe! I recommend you get yourself a mechanical cookie/ice cream scoop for filling muffin cups. They come in different sizes. Worth it also to have a slightly smaller size for your oatmeal cookies.
I'm eager to try this recipe! I adapted the Dr. Oz black bean brownie recipe to be WFPB in addition to not adding ANY sweetener and including at least 2 cups of vegetables, but because I never wrote down my adaptations they always turned out differently ;).
I love that you've recommended these for 'that time of the month'. It's so true now strong those chocolate cravings are! Really enjoying your recipes x
Sounds delicious!! I will be getting their cookbook! Happy early Birthday, Brittany! Can’t wait to see your Sunday show too!! I think I can say for everyone, we are so happy you are back too!!
Caitlin Shoemaker's almond butter brownies are similar and has been my go-to for months, but this looks delish, too, and will get my little one eating black beans. (Sneaky, sneaky! Haha)
I will definitely try these. I tried to eat is little sugar is possible and I don't like highly foods. He's definitely sounds like something I will like thank you so much
I did try these tonight. I tasted the batter before I scooped it into the cups and it was to bitter for me. I added 2 tablespoons of agave syrup (not sure if it is WFPB compliant but I used it anyway. I don't like maple syrup and am allergic to molasses.) It was still too bitter after baked. I will have to experiment to make it sweeter. I think I will use less cocao powder too but will keep the recipe as I tweak it for our taste.
I made this recipe as posted and also thought it was too bitter. My daughter and I couldn't eat them but my husband ate them. I tried tonight adding 10 dates instead of six and 2 tablespoons of raspberry preserves. They were better but still not to our taste. I topped most of them with mini chocolate chips and they were better. *sigh I guess brownies just need sugar for my taste buds.
I also found this recipe bitter, I tried adding bananas, wish I thought of maple syrup! :-) Bit too much cocoa as well. After 3 tbsp of water the mixture looked great and tasted mildly ok so hoped for the best but after baking it I was disappointed. Loved the almond poppy seed cake thou x
These were easy to make and came out great! I'm just starting to eat plant based and I had my meals set but was struggling with dessert. These are going to be a game changer. I also made the berry oat bars which are also lovely. Thank you! 😁
Sounds and looks great! I love using flax seeds for their wonderful fiber! I need all the help I can get with digestion, so this is perfect! And chocolate is my favorite flavor! And I love beans!!
Another awesome video with incredible references I cannot wait to make these black bean brownies- I’ve made Chef AJ‘s and they’re pretty good but they have oats so this is exciting something different!thank you so much for bringing such great recipes to your channel I’m gonna totally get the book 📖 ☮️🥬💚😊
Loving your videos! Thank you for sharing. I think I may try these with some chocolate avocado frosting. Yummy! Also, I live in Florida so I'm currently researching the book and the family. Thank you!
I made these today with 1/2 cup cocoa powder because I used a stronger cocoa but the dough was still too dry and I added some leftover date syrup, probably about 1/2 cup, which also helped with adjusting the sweetness and the consistency. I removed from the oven after 20 minutes because the tops seemed dry but after it cooled the inside was still wet. I'm wondering if I should have let it go longer.
Hi Going to try these today. What is the drained weight of the can, does it say on the can?? I have cooked my own so not sure of weight. Really enjoying your channel x
I really wanted this to work. The only thing I did different is I don’t have a food processor so I used vitamix and used bobs red mill egg replacer. I had to add about a cup of water or more. I cooked it and cooked it. Over an hour and still raw inside 😭 any advice?
Thanks Brittany! I really appreciate your recommendations. Since this book is a little expensive, could you let me know if there are a lot of tofu recipes in it? I don't eat tofu. Thanks! 💖
Yay! Love brownie bites - happy early birthday! You said you use vanilla bean instead of the extract. How many scraped beans would you say or just measure to measure? (Does that make sense?!?)
Hi there. Thanks so much for such a wonderful recipe. I tried it, but the outside cooked much faster (almost burning) than the inside which was quite soft. Any suggestions on preventing he brownie from burning on the outside? Many thanks 🙏
ashina bhimma I have a tricky oven where the tops always cook faster than the rest. I find it very helpful about halfway or two thirds of the way through to put a piece of foil on top. Don't crimp it over at all like to seal it, just lay the sheet over the top. It helps to crinkle the sheet first then smooth it out, it's easier to handle and won't float around as easy.
When you recommend a cookbook, and you’ve recommended several, you can’t stand back and flap it quickly. It can be hard enough to understand the name but when you try to read it...well, it took me lots of effort to get it. Didn’t find it on links that I could recognize. Hold it to the camera for several seconds without flapping it, straight forward. Maybe I will still be able to recover cookbooks you featured in past videos. We all have our regional accents and sometimes speak differently from one another.
vans Deeley I just made them. The batter was very dry for me so I added about 10 T of water to get her consistency. I also had to add about 8 extra dates, but I used special dark chocolate cocoa. I couldn’t get them to bake inside. Baked them 45 minutes. But they tasted good.
I just made these and I can taste the black beans too much. Also gooy in the middle. Maybe I didn’t mix it in the food processor enough? Don’t care for them.

Ha😂 I always thought it was cos salt is supposed to enhance the sweet flavour?😊

They never make it long enough to freeze haha - BUT I usually keep it in a sealed container in the refrigerator.

Holy smokes 2 cups of vegetables in brownies?! 😆
@@kchannel4299 Granted, they are more of a post-workout treat with the protein and veggies, but they are still wonderful ;)

You'll love the cookbook!! Let me know which recipe is your favorite! - Thanks Linda!!
I tried these today! I can get used to the taste. I’m still training my palate . Just sweet enough. I did add some walnuts .
Sounds good, the only health downfall is heating flexseeds is not recommended, as the fatty acids are not stable and oxides in heat
Just ordered!!!! I’ve been on the fence about ordering..but you just convinced me. Can’t wait till it arrives!!! 😀
Yummy! Will be making these. We are in the process now of shelling our black beans that we grow.
Thanks for highlighting the cookbook! I just downloaded a copy and look forward to some good reading tonight. :-)

Crystalline Entity do you have a link to the brownies you mentioned. Sounds yummy too!

Awesome 👍
love your videos! Theyre so easy to make, especially around social isolation time!
I haven't had brownies since going wfpb and this definitely is something I could manage!! Thanks for sharing Brittany and Happy early Birthday!!🎂
Looks delicious! I cant wait to make these!
I made these today. They turned out so good. Thank you for the recipe. A good desert to bring to a family get together 😁👍
Were they wet when cooked? I like a slightly drier brownie?
Mine wouldn’t cook inside. We’re you’re at least a little cooked inside?
These look yum and so healthy! I've been looking for something to replace chocolate bars.
These look so easy and yummy! Just added the cook boom to my amazon order. Thank you
yay! Let me know which recipe is your favorite once you try a bunch!

Thank you so much!! I’m definitely making these! Do you ever go to the VegFest in Pittsburgh? I’m in Youngstown and love visiting PA for vegan events!
We do! It’s always really packed but a fun time!
I'm looking forward to trying these...

I don't see a link for the pan, will a regular pan work? And do you have to do something so that they don't stick?
Hi Going to try these today. What is the drained weight of the can, does it say on the can?? I have cooked my own so not sure of weight. Really enjoying your channel x
These look great! Thanks for sharing the recipe! Does the cookbook have pictures?
Hi Brittany, Looking forward to trying this recipe. Sounds good. Do you use flaxseeds or flax meal? Thanks, Judith
Tried this and love it. Love the smooth texture. Though I think I will add more dates next time because I have s sweet tooth 😂 thanks. Love you.
I just made a batch with 9 dates and it's much better this way, in my opinion.
Hey Thanks for this, just tasted the batter and quite bitter so will add 3 more dates :)
Did the middle bake for you? Mine just didn’t want to firm up.
Mine was fine. Maybe you need to bake it longer? Or use a muffin pan?
I baked for 50 minutes and used a muffin pan. Thanks for replying!
I'm looking forward to making them 😋.
Another killer recipe! One question, can I do these in a normal brownie type pan?
That would be good with nice cream...
Are you going to make some more recipes from that book?
I really wanted this to work. The only thing I did different is I don’t have a food processor so I used vitamix and used bobs red mill egg replacer. I had to add about a cup of water or more. I cooked it and cooked it. Over an hour and still raw inside 😭 any advice?

Patricia Huckabee I just measured it 1:1 - so same 1 tsp ❤️
The Jaroudi Family - yay, thank you!

Do you like this cookbook or the How Not To Die Cookbook better?
Can I use three eggs and can I use figs instead of dates.
Happy Birthday!
salt is an important element to baking. It enhances the flavor.
The recipe starts at 2:31, actually starting at 4:28
tried these today. would double the dates next time.
Saaaaame 😅
If you had to buy only one cook book, would it be this one or how not to die cook book??
Que bueno seria que se le pueda incorporar un programa de traducción al idioma que cada persona necesite, ya que se ven muy buenas esas recetas .-
Gran idea voy a investigar eso
How many calories in each?

One I would to whole lot not safe
Sadly I made these and thumbs down. They were so bitter. Not sweetness at all. Sorry. Yuk! 😢
I made this today and its not a good version its so dry and dull to eat , not recommended......
