    Made these today, used kidney beans per several reviewers. Definitely the best burger I’ve tried since going PB two+years ago. Grabbed pecans instead of walnuts, it worked.

    Can't wait to try this! One thing I will add (and I'm a little surprised he doesn't include this) is black pepper, in order to help with the absorption of the turmeric. Anyway, thanks for sharing! I have the cookbook, but it might have been a while before I got to this if you hadn't brought it to my attention. :)

    Shout out to theses! I thought they looked dry but they weren’t. I left out tahini, I added a lot more spices and my trick to make them taste like they’re cooked on a grill, added a good quality smoked salt. It’s amazing, taste like it’s a grilled burger. Just left out the miso because smoked salt is salty. After sitting in the refrig, I cooked them all, they reheat very well.

    If someone doesn't have a food processor, or hates washing it (like me), I've taken to making bean burgers using: first, a pastry cutter to rough chop everything, then I stick the immersion blender in just a few times. The immersion blender completely purees stuff so you wouldn't want to do all the batter, but pureeing just a bit, while leaving the rest chunky, gives you some nice pureed oat/bean starch for thickening and binding, while still preserving texture. Idk why but I just hate washing that food processor. Also mine works for crap, which is probably why it will last forever and I'll never feel justified buying a new one... I digress... anyway pastry cutter + immersion blender will do the trick as an alternative.

    • @ashleyburks4639
      @ashleyburks4639 3 года назад

      You could also just use a potato masher.

    • @sibelb4152
      @sibelb4152 3 года назад

      @@ashleyburks4639 That could work too if it's all someone had. I like the pastry cutter since it cuts the oats and rice into smaller pieces, whereas mashing will mostly just smush the beans but leave other things whole.

    Okay, so - thanks to you , I'm trying a lot of different recipes that I might not have tried. I made these for dinner yesterday. I will say that when you are done combining, the batter DOES look too dry. And I didn't listen and added more oatmeal. Not wise. They came out a little too dry. The were good, but next time I will not add extra oatmeal. PLUS, I'd make 6 patties rather than the 4 the recipe says. They are just too thick. Thanks for sharing.

    I’ve been wanting to make some bean burgers and sliders. I have the cookbook so will try it. Thanks! I don’t always like to have my burgers with a bun anymore. A pretzel bun is a rare treat because they are addicting. But I may use a big collard green to wrap mine up. I saw JL Fields recommend that and it looked yummy and it doesn’t rip and turn into a big old mess like lettuce can.

    Thx Brittany! I made a double batch of these this morn'g. Easy enough, but we were quite disappointed with the texture & taste. I've been making a diff blk bean burger recipe for the last year which we enjoy A LOT. Dr. Greger's may be a bit healthier, as far as using so many more ingred's. but we prefer the other. We doctored them with some homemade pizza sauce & Cole slaw on top. Only 7 more to eat up, lol ...
    If it helps anyone, my dbl batch made 10 patties, about 4 ozs each. Kitchen scale helped. But if making for children, make smaller patties. They'll never eat it all. Our preferred recipe has one mashing beans by hand coarsely, & uses processor for other ingred's...frozen corn, cumin (yes!), Jalapeno, (yes), cilantro, no nuts. Some of same as Dr Greger's. Then add contents of machine to mashed beans in bowl. Way better... nice texture. *** Hope all have switched to Dr Greger's method of cooking rice to remove deadly, high levels of arsenic in rice (all kinds). If not, they had better learn, esp for small children. Thx for your efforts in bringing good content.

I'll add more of the other ingreds since I have 4 c of home-cooked beans. Jalapenos add a good bit of flavor to black bean burgers. Use either fresh or tamed (jarred). Just so u know, small “t” means teaspoon. Large “T” means tablespoon. You never capitalize the small “t” for teaspoon. It’s been like that for over a hundred years. It seems millennials don’t know it tho cause many of them shorten words so much their own way. But small t for teaspoon and big T for tablespoon makes it so easy.
      Example.... 2 t.
      2 T. You don’t have to add other letters as in tsp. or Tble.

    Lol. Tried to show my wife. ( an exceptional cook) that I could make something. Prepared this but made some errors with the food processor part. Seems I turned into something that resembled dog poop. So she had a good laugh. Anyway it tasted Ok. And will try again. Or she will make it instead. Great channel. 😀😀😀

    I made these amazing sounding burgers exactly to the recipe and they were awful. Very flat flavour and so dry even though they were sticky to form patties. I think the rolled oats is what made them so awful. To me a veggie burger needs lots of moist veggies included. Won't throw out though as ingredients are expensive. I will add one a day to my gorgeous golden retriever's food bowl. I know she will eat them. Sorry about this poor review. Your other recipes I've made have been great (and I know this one is not your own)

      Marion Lacey I know that 2 months have passed, but for future reference, you shouldn’t feed these to dogs. They have onion in them which is toxic for dogs. Too much onion can literally kill a dog. Onion toxicity.

      I know you posted this a year ago, but I think these could be re-purposed by adding to a red marinara sauce, for a vegan version of a red sauce to serve on pasta. Or it could be added to a pot of chili. If you try to make them again, I suggest adding spices you like, perhaps chili powder, or rosemary & oregano. I think burgers are just a filler, and the flavor actually comes from the condiments you put on them, such as mustard, pickles, bbq sauce, ketchup, or even sourkraut.

      @@NLR759 thanks for all your "tasty" information on improving this burger recipe. I haven't made it since but have made others without the rolled oats. Personally I love rolled oats....as a breakfast cereal, nice and sloppy with lots of fruit and pumpkin seeds added for crunch. I won't ever use them in a burger again.

    Example.... 2 t.
    2 T. You don’t have to add other letters as in tsp. or Tble.

    I really enjoy your channel but let me give you just a little bit of criticism. Quit over articulating your videos. Example in this one you explain to everyone you're using oats and then you go to where you buy them how you buy them and where they could get them. It's freaking oatmeal. Be straight into the point thorough organized and continued to be the sweet kind of person that you are. If you look at the demographics of your videos you will see them increase if you just tweak your presentation. There have been many times I've gone to watch one of your videos and I just want to scream get to the point. Otherwise keep up the good work and keep perfecting your craft.
