Made these today, used kidney beans per several reviewers. Definitely the best burger I’ve tried since going PB two+years ago. Grabbed pecans instead of walnuts, it worked.
I finally set aside the time to make these!!! They are so good! There are a lot of ingredients so I doubled the batch. 10 large burger patties.
I made these last night and kept them in the fridge overnight. They are wonderful!! I have this book, but have so many recipes to try.
Can't wait to try this! One thing I will add (and I'm a little surprised he doesn't include this) is black pepper, in order to help with the absorption of the turmeric. Anyway, thanks for sharing! I have the cookbook, but it might have been a while before I got to this if you hadn't brought it to my attention. :)
I keep my turmeric pre mixed with black pepper at 8 to 1 ratio ready to go.....;)
Greger didn’t help with the recipe. He probably would have if he helped with 150 recipes.
I made this recipe today and it’s a keeper. Thanks Brittany for sharing!
I made these today and they are absolutely delicious. Wonderful flavour. The best non-mexican bean burger yet!
Shout out to theses! I thought they looked dry but they weren’t. I left out tahini, I added a lot more spices and my trick to make them taste like they’re cooked on a grill, added a good quality smoked salt. It’s amazing, taste like it’s a grilled burger. Just left out the miso because smoked salt is salty. After sitting in the refrig, I cooked them all, they reheat very well.
Thank you so much, this recipe was just so yummo that I just ordered the book. , finally.😀😀
Thanks again for your Chanel,
Wow! I've been watching your videos for a couple of months trying to decide if I trust your taste buds 😂🤣😂🤣 😂
I made these burgers and the verdict is: YES! YES I trust your taste buds. I'll be making more of your recipes now!
Thank you so much.
My husband is a steaks and potatoes type of guy and even he loved them 🙌🏾
Haha I was wondering the same... 😅😂 I guess I've got to try it as well! 😋
@@wiene03rg I haven't been disappointed yet! I've tried majority of her stuff. Sometimes I venture off to try a different recipe but I find myself always coming back to hers and adding my own little twist. Happy tasting 😋
These look amazing! Just printed out the recipe. I will make them this weekend!
Just made these and they are definitely the best B.B. burgers I’ve ever had! Thank you so much for posting!
WFPB 4-life so happy you loved them!!
If someone doesn't have a food processor, or hates washing it (like me), I've taken to making bean burgers using: first, a pastry cutter to rough chop everything, then I stick the immersion blender in just a few times. The immersion blender completely purees stuff so you wouldn't want to do all the batter, but pureeing just a bit, while leaving the rest chunky, gives you some nice pureed oat/bean starch for thickening and binding, while still preserving texture. Idk why but I just hate washing that food processor. Also mine works for crap, which is probably why it will last forever and I'll never feel justified buying a new one... I digress... anyway pastry cutter + immersion blender will do the trick as an alternative.
You could also just use a potato masher.
@@ashleyburks4639 That could work too if it's all someone had. I like the pastry cutter since it cuts the oats and rice into smaller pieces, whereas mashing will mostly just smush the beans but leave other things whole.
This were delicious! Definitely going to make them again!
Just so u don’t make mistakes in the future. A small “t” is teaspoon. Usually just a “t.” is sufficient. Large “T” is tablespoon. Been like that for hundreds of years.
I haven't made these yet. So glad you did and find them tasty! Now I will make these because I love burgers but don't eat meat anymore. Thanks for your great videos!
I cooked along with you! They are in the oven now. Thanks so much!
Oh, yum. So glad you showed how to make them. I don't have a processor, so need to see how to make a burger without one, but it looks great. I will take some ideas from your demo, and see what I can do. We didn't used to have these fancy machines and did ok. I'll have to go back and try to remember how we did it. Can't believe memory can be so short... lol. Thanks for all the great ideas.
Thank you Valerie. I will give this recipe a try.😊
Thanks for sharing! I'll buy the book and cook it right away with your recipe below:)
Mmm, looks yum! I wonder if you've ever thought about doing a week's worth of chickpea (garbanzo) recipes? Thanks for all your practical wholefood recipes.
I love this recipe! My family and I love these and make them almost weekly!
So good! I don't know why I waited so long to try them, they are the best!
I just cooked some white beans and so I might try this recipe with those beans instead - they look good.
Amazing & so good You just got a new subscriber thank You ❤️
I have this cookbook but hadn't yet made anything from it. Happened upon your channel and love it. Broke out my book and have started making the recipes. These burgers are great. Even my 14 yr old meat loving son ate it!
How awesome!! Thanks for being here!!
Okay, so - thanks to you , I'm trying a lot of different recipes that I might not have tried. I made these for dinner yesterday. I will say that when you are done combining, the batter DOES look too dry. And I didn't listen and added more oatmeal. Not wise. They came out a little too dry. The were good, but next time I will not add extra oatmeal. PLUS, I'd make 6 patties rather than the 4 the recipe says. They are just too thick. Thanks for sharing.
Love the video. I'm one of the mushroom haters- I substituted black olives for the shrooms and it came out perfectly. Remember to rinse them to get rid of the salt if you do this :-). Ordered HNT-Diet and it should be here in a day or two in book and CD formats!
Oh, and please remember to wear gloves when you handle fresh turmeric. Otherwise you'll stain your hands yellow and get asked if you have jaundice.
LOL
Hi there these look so good , thanks for the tip on recipe , hope have a great day :)
Thanks for watching!!
Great job! these look killer. can't wait to make them. MMMmmm fresh lettuce & tomato on mine. looking forward to this one.
I’ve been wanting to make some bean burgers and sliders. I have the cookbook so will try it. Thanks! I don’t always like to have my burgers with a bun anymore. A pretzel bun is a rare treat because they are addicting. But I may use a big collard green to wrap mine up. I saw JL Fields recommend that and it looked yummy and it doesn’t rip and turn into a big old mess like lettuce can.
Love the idea of a collard green wrapped black bean burger - Yum!!
We own it now, but I asked our library to buy it for our community and they did!
Beautiful.
Thanks for sharing. This is going in my face soon!
I’ve tried so many black bean recipes and this by far is my favorite. The taste and texture is amazing!
Can you freeze these burgers and if so before or after baking? Thanks! You are such an inspiration! Happy Easter!
Yes- they freeze great! I would do it before and then cook them when your ready to eat. Happy Easter!!
Thank you so much! I had the same question 😅❤
They look delicious. Savory crunchy bomb! :)
Yum! Very excited to try this recipe.
Just made these burgers. So delicious
Thanks for the recipe link.
Anytime :)
Have the book, love the burgers!
They look delicious! I'm curious to know if these hold together when biting into them?
I learned I can’t make a double batch in my processor. Best to make 2 batches separately, but oh so yummy!
#TheJaroudiFamily Brittany, Would you please tell me out of all of the cookbooks that you have purchased for reaching your goals which ones you would recommend besides how not to die and how not to diet by Dr. Gregor? I have purchased those two, but haven’t had the opportunity to open them up yet and I was just wondering if you would also recommend another one etc.
They are just the best black bean burgers I've ever made, glad you are sharing the recipe :)
Anytime! Thanks for watching!!
How well do these freeze? I live alone and I prefer to make full batches and freeze for later.
Awesome! Thank you!
I am curious about the Red Quinoa Loaf with Golden Gravy from the first 'How not to Die" cookbook... have you guys made that? If so did it not pass the family taste test to put in rotation?
Looks great can’t wait to try these
They are the best!
Did you ever say what the savory spice blend is? Thanks for sharing!
nutritionfacts.org/recipe/savory-spice-blend/
Thx Brittany! I made a double batch of these this morn'g. Easy enough, but we were quite disappointed with the texture & taste. I've been making a diff blk bean burger recipe for the last year which we enjoy A LOT. Dr. Greger's may be a bit healthier, as far as using so many more ingred's. but we prefer the other. We doctored them with some homemade pizza sauce & Cole slaw on top. Only 7 more to eat up, lol ...
If it helps anyone, my dbl batch made 10 patties, about 4 ozs each. Kitchen scale helped. But if making for children, make smaller patties. They'll never eat it all. Our preferred recipe has one mashing beans by hand coarsely, & uses processor for other ingred's...frozen corn, cumin (yes!), Jalapeno, (yes), cilantro, no nuts. Some of same as Dr Greger's. Then add contents of machine to mashed beans in bowl. Way better... nice texture. *** Hope all have switched to Dr Greger's method of cooking rice to remove deadly, high levels of arsenic in rice (all kinds). If not, they had better learn, esp for small children. Thx for your efforts in bringing good content.
I absolutely love these burgers, they are by far my favorite. Great video.
Oh yea! Been wanting to try these.
I don't know why I waited so long, they are amazing!!
Hi B and internet people. Do you add precooked or raw mushrooms to the processor? Thank you!
HI bRITTNEY MADE THE BLACK BEAN BURGER LAST NIGHT AND THEY WHERE REALLY GOO THANKS JOAN
Gotta try this!
doing tonight!!!Batch cooked the beans so need couple recipes for week beside b.bean stew. Have you varied same recipe for a bean loaf? I like simple variations , will try maybe loaf as entree for first turkey free Tgiving.
Has anyone made these and froze them to use later? If so, do you bake and then freeze and then reheat, or freeze and bake when you are ready to eat?
Hi, I tried to make this recipe from the book and it came out way too wet. I think there may be a typo in the Kindle version of the book. It says 1/3 cup/250g chopped mushrooms. I used 250g of chopped mushrooms, but on second look, I don't think those measurements are the same.
The recipe creator for this cookbook, Robin Robertson, is one of my favorite cookbook authors. When it came out I got one for me and one for each of my three vegan daughters.
But I haven't made this. Now I have to try it! Thanks!!
To make it keto I use black soy beans ! It’s really good thank you !
HI Britney where did you get the stand for the cooking book? and how much is it? i need to get one.
Hey Christine! I found ours at Hallmark a few years ago -- I did add one similar to our Amazon recommended page here: www.amazon.com/shop/thejaroudifamily
I made these for lunch. Did you use raw Tahni? As I can only buy Tahni with the oil in.
Have you ever seen a recipe for Tamale Pie? It’s my hubby’s favorite. He is only 2 lbs from his goal and I’d love to surprise him
I’m making these tonight !
Just make sure you do 2 tsp of miso (I accidentally said 1 tbsp in the video)
I added 3 Tbsp of soy sauce because I missed some salt and my mixture was a bit dry. I had cooked the beans from scratch (1 C is enough) but they were al dente. When they are from a can they are more mushy. The burgers taste really good!
I find the opposite to hold true: home+cooked to be softer & canned to have a chew to them. I prefer home-cooked (more digestible). Thx for sayin only 1cup of beans was needed. I'll add more of the other ingreds since I have 4 c of home-cooked beans. Jalapenos add a good bit of flavor to black bean burgers. Use either fresh or tamed (jarred). Watch those fresh seeds if you dislike a good bit of heat. No sh'rooms for us, either, so it's black olives & soy sauce : ) Thx.
@@TheStaffOfLife I must admit that my pressure cooker is old now and it takes longer than before to cook legumes so sometimes I don't let them cook long enough. ;) However, at least in Europe, canned legumes are quite soft.
Thx, Sandra! Sometimes our dried beans (America) are older than the pkg dates let on? They can take awhile to soften, even in Instant Pot (pressure)...even after soaking 10-12 hrs. It's sad.
@@TheStaffOfLife Oh! That might happen. I think it also depends on the kind of beans. Some need a longer soaking time. ;) I like combining them with mushrooms to make a bread spread.
thanks for sharing the recipe .. will try it out tonight. btw ... don't understand your link for vegan b12, dha/epa - brings you to nothing to do with products?
I think they took down the site, here is a link to it: alpineorganics.co
What's the Savory Spice Blend?
Love all your videos
What mushrooms did you ise? Canned?
This looks great I will make them 😆
Hi Brittany
I just realised you made this ! Wow thank you 😊 I didn’t have to send you text xxxx
This looks so tasty-thank you for sharing! My current favorite black bean burger is the fat free black bean burger (w/ tahini sauce!🤤) from the Vegan 8, so I’m curious to see how these compare! I’d love to see more cookbook recipes-I own all of these, but don’t cook from them nearly enough....🙈 I’m most interested in seeing some more from the FOK Flavor cookbook if possible. ☺️ Thank you!
Awesome I'd love to hear what you think of it! I have a few flavor recipes up on the channel (the potato waffles are amazing!!!) - I'll do more soon!!
The Jaroudi Family I think I have all of the ingredients, so I’ll probably make them this weekend. I think I missed that video, but I don’t have a waffle maker....that might have to change!😆
The Savory Spice Blend is also online: nutritionfacts.org/recipe/savory-spice-blend/ You might want to add the link to your video description section.
I LOVE THAT SPICE BLEND!
What is Savory Spice Blend? I googled it and came up with a few completely different variations.
Light Workx savory spice blend is a recipe in the How Not To Die cookbook. It has several spices mixed together, but my sense is it’s to substitute for salt.
nutritionfacts.org/recipe/savory-spice-blend/
Truly AMAZING ... YUMmmmmmmm
Thank you 😇💗😋👍
Thanks for sharing this recipe. I have the cookbook and it says 2 TEASPOONS miso, not tablespoons.
Thanks for the catch!! I'll add it to the notes in the description box
Just so u know, small “t” means teaspoon. Large “T” means tablespoon. You never capitalize the small “t” for teaspoon. It’s been like that for over a hundred years. It seems millennials don’t know it tho cause many of them shorten words so much their own way. But small t for teaspoon and big T for tablespoon makes it so easy.
Example.... 2 t.
2 T. You don’t have to add other letters as in tsp. or Tble.
Do you think I could grill these if frozen?
I think it would work 💕
Could you make these without miso ? I can’t get it around here 😕
yup!
Do you think they would still turn out if I leave out the mushroom? My family hates mushrooms.
DeeDee Hayes yes would totally work without them!
The Jaroudi Family thank you. I’ve had the cook book for a while, but I’ve been so intimidated by these recipes, so I really appreciate you doing these type of videos.
R u saying 1/2 c. Raw black beans cooked or 1 and a half c.?
One and a half cups of COOKED black beans. (Canned beans and Tetra Packed beans have been cooked. 14.5/15oz cans hold approximately 1.5 cups of cooked beans.)
I am just about to make them but I want to make a double batch and have it in the freezer. My problem is that I don't know when should I freeze them, b4 or after baking ???
I would do before and then bake them when your ready to have it!
Cook first then freeze. They will only need to be heated up when you want to eat them!
all I can say is YUM
So Yum!!
OMG! I‘m coming to the end of day 2 of a water fast and i am drooling! This is self-torture! But i plan to make them really soon!
MONROEVILLE??? Wow!
Did she fry or bake them
I don’t fry anything. Always baked.
I like this
Could you use pinto beans or black eyed peas instead of black beans?
I have made these with pinto beans and they come out great!
I think most kinds of beans would work well, including kidney beans, navy beans, or green lentils.
Lol. Tried to show my wife. ( an exceptional cook) that I could make something. Prepared this but made some errors with the food processor part. Seems I turned into something that resembled dog poop. So she had a good laugh. Anyway it tasted Ok. And will try again. Or she will make it instead. Great channel. 😀😀😀
Randall Pearce haha oh no!! Maybe even adding in 1/2 the mixture to the food processor at a time would help.
Hi I’m new to your channel! I’m on the starch solution and your story is inspiring me . Thank you! If you have a Costco near by I get a huge bag of organic sprouted outs at Costco $9!
I bet if u add some steak sauce or gravy master it will taste even more like s hamburger.
I made this but unfortunately, the burgers tasted bland. Anyone use additional herbs and spices?
Did you add the spice blend?
@@1128tlcny I did
Hmmm idk maybe double the spice blend. Or try it with different beans.
@@1128tlcny Did you double all the spices?
I did not double the spices. I don’t think it needs it. It was just a suggestion for someone who thought they tasted bland.
Okay recipe, bad presentation: dry burgers!
Whole Foods is a union buster.
I made these amazing sounding burgers exactly to the recipe and they were awful. Very flat flavour and so dry even though they were sticky to form patties. I think the rolled oats is what made them so awful. To me a veggie burger needs lots of moist veggies included. Won't throw out though as ingredients are expensive. I will add one a day to my gorgeous golden retriever's food bowl. I know she will eat them. Sorry about this poor review. Your other recipes I've made have been great (and I know this one is not your own)
Marion Lacey I know that 2 months have passed, but for future reference, you shouldn’t feed these to dogs. They have onion in them which is toxic for dogs. Too much onion can literally kill a dog. Onion toxicity.
@@tj4796 Thanks for your concern. Before I served one up to my goldie I looked up information on giving food with onion and am happy to advise she didn't get any! 😊
I know you posted this a year ago, but I think these could be re-purposed by adding to a red marinara sauce, for a vegan version of a red sauce to serve on pasta. Or it could be added to a pot of chili. If you try to make them again, I suggest adding spices you like, perhaps chili powder, or rosemary & oregano. I think burgers are just a filler, and the flavor actually comes from the condiments you put on them, such as mustard, pickles, bbq sauce, ketchup, or even sourkraut.
@@NLR759 thanks for all your "tasty" information on improving this burger recipe. I haven't made it since but have made others without the rolled oats. Personally I love rolled oats....as a breakfast cereal, nice and sloppy with lots of fruit and pumpkin seeds added for crunch. I won't ever use them in a burger again.
@@NLR759 I'd add Trader Joe aioli or dijon mustard or avocado mayonnaise.

Lol! 👍👍
She wasn’t boring at all was she?
I really enjoy your channel but let me give you just a little bit of criticism. Quit over articulating your videos. Example in this one you explain to everyone you're using oats and then you go to where you buy them how you buy them and where they could get them. It's freaking oatmeal. Be straight into the point thorough organized and continued to be the sweet kind of person that you are. If you look at the demographics of your videos you will see them increase if you just tweak your presentation. There have been many times I've gone to watch one of your videos and I just want to scream get to the point. Otherwise keep up the good work and keep perfecting your craft.
I did like the video as it was informative...but ZERO fun!! NO personality...the ONLY chuckle was when you almost mixed up a word....pfft....as long as you don't fall asleep its a hit of a recipe!! GOOD LUCK IN THE FUTURE!! Hopefully you can add some actual personality...no it all smartness is unbecoming...
Leave Britney alone!! 😭 lol
