My grandfather lived to be 99 years old eating salted, fat pork and clabbered (fermented) milk all of his life. He was lean, drove himself around, and worked his farm until he was 95. Read the entire New York Times daily. The veggies he ate were all covered in Round Up.
      No cancer.

I can personally confirm exactly every thing Dr. Ellsworth Wareham says. I was almost killed by a heart stroke. My left coronary was 100% clogged, now there is a stent in it. I stopped immediately with all animal food and started to eat only whole vegetables, legumes, nuts, fruits - absolutely nothing from animals anymore. My heart has fully recovered in less than two years. No problems what so ever, but most important: no medicine at all needed!!! I am now 71 and still in great form.

I was a young 18 year old Hospital Orderly in the old Loma Linda Hospital, way back in 1963-4 and I remember seeing Dr. Wareham walking down the hospital corridor, going in and out of rooms checking on his patients, and I always saw a group of Medical Students, Interns, and Residents in tow. He was a VERY popular doctor, and both the staff and the patients loved him. He was a kind, and well respected Physician. I later went on to be a surgeon myself, and I always have remembered Dr. Wareham, and considered him a great role model. I am a Loma Linda trained surgeon and did surgery for 48 years. I presently am 76 and still trying to live as Dr. Wareham did. He was the ideal representative of a Seventh day Adventist Doctor. I am glad that he lived as long as he did, and influenced so many people with his Life.

My wife and I switched to a whole foods plant based diet (vegan) together five years ago. We are now retired at 65, and it is one of the best things we ever did for our physical, mental, and spiritual health. Within a year, my weight went from 185 to 155 and has stayed at 155, my normal weight. No more diets - we just make sure our carbs come from whole grains rather than white flour, and watch out for sugar, salt, processed foods, and oil (including olive oil). We avoid eating out except on special occasions. All my numbers are now normal - no medications except for a B12 supplement and a multi vitamin with iron. My wife was able to discontinue her blood pressure medication she had been taking for 30 years. We sleep well our skin looks clear and healthy. We seldom get colds. After a year or so we started ramping up our physical exercise and found we had an amazing amount of energy. We take a high intensity basic training fitness class twice a week, and an advanced step aerobics class three times a week keeping up with people half our age. We also do our own yard work, wash our cars by hand, have a large garden, and cut our own firewood. The only regret is we should have done this earlier in life.

So right Dr. I was 66 when I changed from vegetarian way, began in 2000 losing 115 lbs. When I found out the chemicals hormones dye put in Salmon and what chickens went though and saw slaughter houses treatment. ( I also had a Dad that came from Farming) I have lived now almost 5 months. organic fruits vegetables gone from 175 lbs to 150 lbs. I sleep finally though the night, I want to walk every day sometimes two hours. I love fixing my meals eating the wonderful God given food. I love mushrooms and do not miss meat at all, not even chicken. I even found out there is vegan cheese. I will never change. My sons think I am a fanatic they are over weight and I know that eventually like me they will get diabeties, mine went away when i changed to vegetarian in less then 6 months. I have energy now I didn't have in 40's and do pushups daily lift weights 5 lbs but need to graduate to 10 lbs. 5 is to easy. I don't want to be a muscle woman just keep strong. I also do stretches and balance exercise daily for legs. I go up flights of stairs, I live on 8th floor in stead of taking elevator.

My mom's birthday today. She works out regularly with barbell squats and dead lifts. Up to 130 pounds. She weighs 120 at 5 ft 4. Her age? Put it this way- I'm 57 and she is more than 20 years older. She has been vegan for 20 years and 90% raw for 10.
She used to be one of those 'sensitive' types that Dr. Wareham mentioned. She was a hard case, but she is my mom so I kept at it. I made her meals, supervised her exercise, managed her nutrition etc. It took years and many arguments.
It was tough. Almost broke us apart. But it is my mom. People all talk about how 'difficult' it is. Or "You don't understand'. Yada yada. But at the end of the day, you can do it.
And nobody- I mean NOBODY ever looks back and says, "Hey I wish I never made this change'. They all enjoy their amazing new strength and health and freedom from 99% of dis-ease that they used to suffer from.
There are two kinds of people. Those people have systematically weakened their taste buds to the point where they THINK that they are living the good life. Then the others who do the CHANGE, put forth the effort for the required time (doing it the right way of course), and actually live the good life.

      great to hear that.
what else did your father give up?
did he eat everything including meat, cookies, sugary drinks, etc etc, and he went vegan, or did he not eat junk, and just gave up meat?
does he eat eegs and butter or is that not part of the vegan diet?
i’m asking these questions because there is a lot a controversy with saturated fat and having fat in the diet vs a low fat vegan diet.
the doctors i follow encourage healthy fats from grass fed animals, organic butter, and organic cage free eggs. since we are made up of triglycerides and cholesterol same as fish, it should almost be automatic for humans to eat healthy fats.
but this doctor is 98 and had all his witts God bless him.
so who do we listen to?
a lot of vegans are 100 years of age and over.
the japanese are the healthiest people on the planet and they eat rice and fish, yes?
fish is loaded with EPA & DHA, those are healthy fatty acids.
in my opinion sugar and stress are the enemies, not healthy fats.
humans are at the top of the food chain, but we are not as smart as most animals because they know what not to eat. some animals eat meat, some don’t, like birds don’t eat meat. the point is they know what to eat, and what not to eat.
dogs on the other hand will eat anything. is this because they are always hungry because they don’t have enough food, or are they just as dumb as us men.
wolves eat meat, is that because that’s all they have, but there are also greens where that are, so it’s by choice.
      do we follow the centenarians?
but i’m a woodworker, not a doctor. i do know that sugar, carbs, and fried foods will bring your number closer faster.
      God bless us all.

Alex Struk You are so wrong. Don't try to justify meat eating. A mainly vegan diet is ALWAYS the key to longevity. The Japanese people ate a diet rich in carbohydrate, low in salt and animal protein and lived quite stress-free. And you can see now, as the American diet became more and more popular in Japan the last decades, that the life expectancy dropped dramatically (!!!) (just look it up). btw: don't throw around with numbers, if you can't handle or understand them, pleeease.

    • @woozyloozy
      @woozyloozy 9 лет назад +1

Why do you need other people or so called "professionals" to tell you what to do?
These "professionals" get only a few hours of nutrition in college... (for a reason)
I mean, just research the data yourself, there are plenty(!) of studies, which you can read.
      Go here: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/
and type in "vegan" or "vegan diet" or something related and you can find yourself all the data, that clearly shows how beneficial a vegan diet is. There are also so many RUclips Channels where you can inform yourself. I recommend: NutritionFacts.org (both a Channel and a website on its own) And btw: The president of the American College of Cardiology is a vegan! (shocking, I know)
And if it wouldn't be enough already: you would also support the planets recovery, because the farming is the main factor in the equation of environmental destruction. PLUS: Humans are not designed to eat meat. We thrive greatly on a plant-based diet, because our entire anatomy is constructed for that. (e.g. compare teeth of different kinds of animals with ours)

Dr. Ellsworth Wareham I think your very wrong. If you had a strong foundation on those foods you would have no need to go vegan later in life. And no one needs cholesterol from animal sources because that is all bad cholesterol, our own bodies make good cholesterol all on it's own.

AwkwardEmoticonHere Ah! let me think.. If I remember correctly from my medical school days (it's been a few years:) ), the chemical formula for cholesterol is C27H46O, whether it comes from an animal or from our livers.. There's no such thing as bad cholesterol really.. I've heard certain misinformed/misguided people call LDL bad but that's ridiculous. If you had zero LDL you'd be dead.. Dietary cholesterol, on the other hand is transported by lipoproteins called chylomicrons which are v v beneficial. The more of these you have then the less VLDL your liver has to make and believe you me young Sunny Jim, the average human liver is already overworked clearing all the glucose out of our blood because of our modern carb-heavy diets and it would much rather that you get your cholesterol from your diet..

@rainmechanic I was agreeing but then "I guarantee this man gets 80% of his caloric intake from grain based foods.." why did you feel the need to write this? are you one of these idiots who thinks whole grains are bad for you? Besides what makes you think he gets 80 percent of his calories from "grain based foods"? I mean you really dont have to rely on grains as a vegan. Beans lentils peas potatoes fruits nuts seeds vegetables mushrooms etc but then again why would you skip grains

    • @___xyz___
      @___xyz___ 5 лет назад +1

No, Loma Linda is not revered for vegan lifestyles. The part of town that attracted media attention for their health were primarily *vegetarian.* I've seen no official mention that even the majority of them were vegan. Make no mistake, there is quite a long way from vegetarian to vegan. Not all people that swear to not eat meat cut out animal products that have been a staple of a balanced diet for millennia.
Besides, and jeez, I'm not criticising him for it, but his advice about both saturated fat, cholesterol and (to some degree) sodium, are all outdated. There has been no empirical evidence for any of these compounds to negatively impact your cardiovascular health or risk for cancer when consumed in traditionally moderate amounts. Symptoms that were believed to be caused by LDL cholesterol have through independent research been attributed to high blood sugar. High sodium intake also haven't been demonstrated to affect anyone but diabetics. And saturated fat was just an hypothesis that fell short because of the former.
As an additional heads up, these are all ideas that are being washed out of university curriculum to make room for most robustly evaluated research.
But you gotta give it to him. 103 years and still going strong. He's gotta have done something right. I'm positive that, for some people a vegan lifestyle will bring the greatest health. For I sincerely believe that above diet, life expectancy is determined by attitude. And if there's one thing vegan people don't stress about it's a lack of connection with nature.

animal agriculture is responsible for 91% of deforestation and the Amazon is being burned down 150 acres every minute destroyed and if the usa went vegan it would be equal to taking 60 million cars off the road and animal agriculture emits more emissions than all transportation in the world combined
also since we feed animals more than 10 times the amount of food we take from their body and it takes 2500 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of beef, if everyone went vegan we could cure world hunger 13 times over

This glorious man was highly influential in my decision to become Vegan after watching the brilliant Forks over Knives. It’s the best decision I ever made. So many pluses including less expensive. People always ask me where do you get your protein from and I always say where do you think your protein gets protein from. Dr Ellsworth is so right that we can advise people on emotional and physical well-being but try telling them about food. LOL. My taste buds have changed for sure. I look at meatballs one of my favourite things and the desire has gone. It’s incredible.

Also as an RN with midwife experience I don’t think it will be harmful to you or your baby to go vegan but there can be side effects like really dry skin for a while. Mine was almost reptilian but now is softer than ever and also a major thing for you I guess is you can become very tried for the first month of the transition and then you have more energy than ever and more mental clarity. It’s quite amazing really. I also lost 5kg without even trying. It is a tough one for you having a new baby around and being tired is not optimal. However, the fact that you are vegetarian already it may not affect you as much as it did me. My main meat of choice was chicken and there is so much artificial garbage in expanded chickens which I feel along with dairy made the biggest changes to my wellbeing.

Considering a large percentage of Asians are devout Buddhists, I'd say a large portion follow a vegetarian lifestyle out of religious obligation.

Incredible man I became a vegan in the past year due to a prostrate problem and already it looks as if I have overcome that without the use of drugs or an operation. My PSA reading is down by a third from what it was last year.

This gentleman is amazing! He choose to retire at 95, while over here in Belgium, the country's in mayhem because they want to raise the retirement age to 67 while in reality it's closer to 58 or so at the moment.
    Awesome testimonial.

I'd recommend at least taking as least dairy as you can.
If you see the data, almost every good factor is higher and every bad factor lower among the vegans.
It's for the extra benefits, brother.
Your body is selfish, it doesn't think about what you can accomplish when healthy, rather only about the momentarily pleasure.
And that's the source of all Evil...

@@marisanmendoza3260 but in our days these animals are full with hormones and sick, there are tons of documentaries and scientists telling about it too. And the vegetarianism was always God's plan in the garden of Eden . God bless!

    is amazing how no matter the positive messages in this video... someone could still try to find something to be negative about... if he prunes bushes and mows lawns, chances are he can still walk... but on the off chance that he can't... how many flesh consumers are still above dirt and of such a clear state of mind beyond maybe 60 or 70??? Thankhz for sharing this information Ellsworth & Veggie Channel... Wholeness n Love ((-;

Been vegan for ten years and finally found a compatible partner who is also vegan. Celebrating over two years together and looking at a very long and happy plant-based life.
Christmas dinner was entirely all vegan this year, thanks to the recipes I found by the Minimalist Baker, Vegan Richa, Deliciously Ella, Plant-Based Paleo, How Not To Die Cookbook, and one lone cranberry sauce recipe from Gimme Some Oven. Vegan recipes have come a LONG way in the last decade! Best time to be vegan is NOW.
