I really appreciate the effort to actually film it's performance. As you said, almost every other review is just "Yeah I tried it, I liked it", and your video is the first that I have watched that actively showed it working ( Or really... not ). I had the exact same reservations as you noted, as I was also concerned that it was just more area for paint to sit in. So I'm happy with my standard tip on my OG Freak. I was going to ask if the threads are the same for all the Freak tips, but honestly it doesn't really matter now that I'm not buying a ACP!
I was thinking of getting the ACP tip from the Freak XL kit for my OG freak as well, mainly for rainy conditions. Though this doesn't really keep rain out & doesn't seem to be too much of an upgrade. On the note if an XL tip fits on OG backs, judging only by pictures it looks like it will though I hope someone can chime in
This review is the real deal. Unbiased and fact based, had only heard good things about the ACP tip but you always hear great things until you buy it for yourself. Amazing review! Thank you so much for the information and knowledge!
I remember buying a CMI Thunderpig barrel off ansgear for $10 years ago with the same “technology” didn’t seem to be leaps and bounds better than a smooth bore figured this idea would resurface as revolutionary again.
Thank you for all your help and knowledge today at Sac Paintball. The new Freak barrel looks great on my Mini GS. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks again.
Was waiting for you to weigh in on this. All the other tests break paint in the back. Not the front. Asked everyone to break in the front and showed comparisons. Noone did. That was my red flag. And it seems like you confirmed what I feared. I wanted it to work too.
lol finally an honest review by someone with some sense. Every review I saw earlier had some idiots comparing the two and while I could clearly see that the ACP was not doing any better or possibly even worse, they always ended up saying how awesome the barrel is and that it makes such a huge difference. I knew it was bs
I was fairly confident that the acp tip wasn't going to work as soon as I saw the design. I custom built hammer 7's for a little while and often used rifled barrels. one in particular that I used for roundball, the Rap 4 recon barrel, also has this sort of straight rifling that goes down the barrel and I always found that as soon as I broke a ball, the barrel had to be completely taken off and cleaned properly otherwise I wouldn't be hitting a damn thing for the rest of the day. My findings from the barrels I've owned is that if you want to clear paint out the tip of a barrel, then you really just need the tip/front half to be bore matched to the size of your paint as well. So that the next 3-4 shots are tight to the barrel and squeegee the paint out with them. That's just my 2 cents.
I’ve been using the ACP Tip for months now & have noticed a great difference in reliability if I end up breaking a ball in the barrel. However, I’ll say that the ACP Tip will make your market sound like a Desert Eagle, it’s extremely loud compared to other barrel fronts. But I like it!
This reminds me of a PMI hammerhead. That was that ridiculous barrel that was just three rods and a ring at the ends to hold you together somehow the three rods were going to guide the paintball, guaranteed to never have to worry about breaking paint again. I just remember the one time I tried one it was definitely loud, and the paint kind of just blew wherever it felt like. So yeah you would break paint the balls flew like you did
I could be wrong but my impression was this barrel as more aimed at reducing the impact of water/rain on shot accuracy than being able to clear breaks any better.
Playing in the rain i noticed a difference. I seemed to shoot straighter. But yea broken paint was hard to clean out. And i agree i feel like i could shoot out broken paint in the freak tip nwhere i had t squegee the acp out.
The acp tip would probably work better with a tight paint to bore match, but that would require the grooves to be more rounded so it doesn't cut up the paintball which would make it even more expensive
Assuming the biggest Freak-Insert has a .695 diameter, the ACP Tip would need to be just as big, or even bigger to not cause breaks inside the tip. Paint in this size is almost impossible to find nowadays, so having a tight borematch with the tip is hard to achieve or in other words: unrealistic. But i understand your idea!
This is the same problem you get with rifled barrels or the old straight rifled barrels from wayyyy back in the day. They won't even clean as well with a squeegie so we all stopped using them. Every decade people try the same flawed concepts over again though. It's quite funny. :)
The people that test this tip never put broken paint in the insert part of the barrel. If I break paint, it happens near the breech, not halfway down the barrel.
I tried all those barrels freak, freak XL etc. Having them in my wardrobe. You know why? What works best is just JJ Ceramic EDGE barrel kit. I know that marketing is needed to earn more and more...
Didn't work years ago, doesn't work now. Surface tension of the paint tells all you need to know. The grooves of the ACP provide more surface area for paint to adhere to. It's never coming out of those grooves and is going to shoot worse as each ball gets paint on it coming out. ACP is the worst.
I don't understand the thinking with the acp tip. My main reason is because anyone wiling to pay that much for a barrel tip or barrel kit is likely going to already be shooting a gun that doesn't break paint often at all.
The first thing that came to mind when I seen those spaces in that acp tip was, paint collecting in those areas and continuing to get on fresh paintballs until the barrel was properly cleaned in the pits, and the smooth bore standard tip would do a better job at forcing paint out of the barrel, especially when you are either bore matching or underboring. The a.c.p. tip just sounded counterproductive. in other words, PSEUDO SCIENCE......
one point there is that the underbore ore bore match only apply to the first part of the barrel the insert part the other front part is not matched to the rest of the bore.
When I saw this I knew right away this was a gimmick. I get the idea of the tip to drain the debris. When the paint gets on the ball its going to change the trajectory and fly away no matter if their is grooves in the barrel or not. It takes 5 seconds or less to swab the barrel and most of the paint is cleared with a barrel maid. Not buying it.
It was tried before I can't remember the company but everyone found the it was too inconsistent one channel would clear but another stays full which makes for and uneven air path around the ball. Its just a gimmick
But lets be real, the amount of paint you put in that barrel isnt the normal amount you would have from a break... i feel like ya put way more than what would usually be in there, so yeah, it may not perform as well
thank you for actually showing a comparison between the tips. so many paintball gear "reviews" are just anecdotal with no testing
For real! Big props to him
Not a problem. 👍 Any video on this channel that has review in the title I have used.

Honest sure, but not sure about that sense part 😃. Appreciate it.
havent played since 2009 and am kinda amazed with the stuff now.
Thank for this review, I was on the fence about picking one of these tips up. But after your legit review I'll stick with my spiral ported barrels!
I always appreciate a good, honest review. Kudos Brad.

This is exactly what I thought it would do when I first saw it. Thanks for putting my mind to rest.
props on the single trigger LCD in the background
thank you for consistently putting out quality content
The video I have been waiting months for

Classic AA barrels still great after all these years
Great video, and I completely agree with your reasoning for it. There's a reason why rifled barrels fell out of fashion a long time ago.
Well said!

Keep up the videos Brad! 💪 10/10
Appreciate it!
Its like mud test on In range TV channel:)

I was wondering about this. Could you also check out the Quake barrel by PE?
Playing in the rain i noticed a difference. I seemed to shoot straighter. But yea broken paint was hard to clean out. And i agree i feel like i could shoot out broken paint in the freak tip nwhere i had t squegee the acp out.
Yeah...I thought about getting a squirt bottle to test water...but I didn't lol
Lol I remember when SP was claiming this porting would actually SPIN the paintball to make them fly straighter.
Huh,,,,, they broached the barrel tips. Cool!!!!!!
Thank you very much for this informative video

What might work a bit too is a single piece with groves starting half way down.
Great review!
Like snow in your treads. Packs it in.
Great review but I want to see a test done with rain water, I don't really chop paint as much
I just got back into paintball after three years. I see Smart Parts is still trying to sell B.S. . . I guess some things never change.
Great video
I think this would have been better when paint breaks were more common, also if you core sample it works like a dream, but those are rare.
If I broke more paint I would want to use this barrel tip less.
NIce review
Love my old school AA style 16" tip on my XL ..Just me j guess....
love ur vids
So you had premium balls and a better freak. Sounds like a good night. 😇
But lone wolf said it was the best and I have to go buy it right now
Hear me out. Spiral porting, with spiralled rifling. Always smooth, and paint has an exit when its broken
Let's just go back to a ramrod tip for the Freak XL and get it over with
I'm down if you've got one!
SO THE BARREL BACKS ARE THE SAME SIZE JUST A LONGER INSERT THAT GOES INTO THE BARREL NOW , RIGHT?
This is the same problem you get with rifled barrels or the old straight rifled barrels from wayyyy back in the day. They won't even clean as well with a squeegie so we all stopped using them. Every decade people try the same flawed concepts over again though. It's quite funny. :)

Very true. There was so much broken paint in the tip though as soon as I screwed on the back and put it the gun it was everywhere.
lol your groupings on the ACP are way better than the spiral.
That what I thought too.
Will it work on the jr back
Pretty hilarious that you and Lone Wolf got completely different results. They get paid to sell them and you dont
I tried all those barrels freak, freak XL etc. Having them in my wardrobe. You know why? What works best is just JJ Ceramic EDGE barrel kit. I know that marketing is needed to earn more and more...
For sure I was like the J& J barrels.
Didn't work years ago, doesn't work now.

Can you use this on a mini gs
I like mine lol
Where’s the geo 4 review man your reviews are the best all other ones suck
So I just got a used m2 what should I do to like clean it up and tune it?
I'd probably change o-rings and make it as factory as possible.
Paintball Ruined My Life thanks so much will do

I’m pretty sure it was a kingman product under the same name. They probably own the patents now
we got some empire heat at our local field and its terrible man, at least 3 dimples per ball👎
Everytime you say there's a link and point to something no link ever appears maybe just say link in the discription
Edit: not trying to be a dick
Sounds like a gimmick
It is haha
But lets be real, the amount of paint you put in that barrel isnt the normal amount you would have from a break... i feel like ya put way more than what would usually be in there, so yeah, it may not perform as well
COMMENT
Incredibly stupid engineering that wasn't even tested before production.
Amazing.
Shot the ACP in a tournament this weekend, it’s absolutely awful. Not only does the paint not clear out, it’s insanely loud. Do not buy this barrel
Let me save you some time. I owned own. It absolutely DOES NOT work.
Oh look it’s another over priced piece of aluminum
Super inaccurate. Unbiased opinion (i've shot them all) Dye Ultralite is the most accurate. Ball on ball down the field.
Are you referring to the ACP tip being super inaccurate? Lol and I can agree on the UL accuracy, I love my set for my M2
How did you like the OTP barrels?
I just wish the dye ultralight barrels were a bit more efficient.
Dye gang 💪
Inserts are pretty much BS, as is any kind of "rifling".
