My brain says Ibanez, my heart says Gibson, my wallet says Epiphone
Same condition
Sourav Dey 🥱 sadly it’s true
I see this comment on any video with a Gibson lespaul
Your wallet actually says *no*
😂
1. You can always make an Ibanez RG sound like a Les Paul but, you can't make a Les Paul sound like an Ibanez RG(locking trem).
2. Ibanez RG makes you want to shred!
3. Both guitars look cool!
4. Both guitars are iconic. Why not get both of them(I did)?
Slash shreds on a Les Paul...
Waters, you should of said, sell it and use the money to buy two of them, hahahaha.
They cost 3 grand each in my country, that's why I can't get both. Or any of them for that matter lol
All the more reason to buy an Ibanez RG350. You can buy one for around $300 or less(used) on ebay. An excellent guitar, in my opinion!
One of my first Ibanez guitars. It is easy to play and it carries an aggressive quality when played. I keep a variety of tone agents Ibanez jackson of late and the standard tele and lp..... all to my way of thinking do not play the same. Getting used to one can trip you up on the others. But, It is a slight that is worth the effort as long as you do not play the complete set on the same stage. at least in my efforts.
tough to choose, you made both of them sound great! I vote to get one of each guitar and increase your guitar collection.
+Abe Aleman 😁👍
Abe Aleman what I did. I used to have an ibanez rg420 sbk , gave it away. Now I'm getting a rg 450dx slb after just getting a Gibson tribute 2017 LP goldtop
Now that's the right attitude to have!
i like both even though the Gibson has it's flaws, but the Ibanez has always been my favorite guitar brand.
True....
But we're poor guitarists out here working for 6 weeks nd save all money to buy *one* guitar...😂😂
RG is more value for money. But its hard to resist a cherry burst les paul
I can't agree more with that statement!!!
I got a blue moon burst ibanez rg 370 ahmz.... If we want to talk colour that guitar probably has one of the best colour schemes ive seen personally
Personally red flame maple all day
We all know that the most basic black strat is the way to go
I prefer Ibanez over Les paul mainly because ibanez neck fits my hand way better then les paul. Also les paul is to heavy. But les paul is damn beautiful.
Me too I felt that LP body is too heavy to handle even sit playing..
I felt this way as well until I tried out a Les Paul Special Tribute and Studio which have essentially the same great sound but without all the weight and stuff on it. Like a stripped down Les Paul to the max and I absolutely love it.
the first time i see les paul i always think "THATS THE GUITAR I WANT"
For me, Les Paul seems like an antique, Ibanez has style, it's more modern, I definitely like Ibanez better.
They both sound great! The les paul has a bit warmer and fuller sound while the rg has more bite and clarity. Both are great guitars :)
Ibanez is Just my type of guitar
Loved the side by side video panels Darrell ! Super creative and a very effective method of comparing. Well done !
The best way I can put the difference I hear is that the "Les Paul" sounds fatter than Ibanez.
The RG is all about precision, while the Les Paul goes for that classic rock sound with fat mids and rolled off highs.
Epsilon's Dilemma sound isn't fat but the Les Paul is, it's a short fat heavy guitar just like an ugly short fat old man.
Epsilon's Dilemma yes i completely agree
you can use an ibanez for classic rock as well, but i would say the Les Paul is more about precision.
What's wrong with being fat???
Can. We. Reach. 22 millónSubs Crayfish everything. it's disgusting. whereas a fat sound coming from a LP in the hands of James Hetfield is sublime.
also, since I'm a neoclasic/power metal kind of guy, the Ibanez is not to be dismissed
For me as a kid the Gibson is heavier and tiny uncomfortable but man if I want to play blues, classic rock she sounds amazing. To the same extent I use the Ibanez for heavy metal and some modern rock. Both great guitars
My first guitar was an Ibanez GIO. Your channel makes me nostalgic.
Actually, my favorite guitars are SGs, they're lightweight, have a slim nech, easy access to the fret and they look awesome. Between the two ones in the video I'd say this: I like the more functions and features of the RG but the LP sound and looks waaaaay better to me. Keep up the great work Darrell :)
Both guitars are great instruments, but let me know which one you think sounded the best and why!
As always, it's best to listen with headphones :)
Happy playing!
I think the rg wins cause it has the warm tone and the bright tone also and does not have tuning problems it stays in tune all the time and the tuning stability is amazing while the lp has trouble with that. However the lp has better tension for great bends and the rg doesn't cause how the headstock is and the locking nut.
There really isn't a comparison...different scale length...the rg's neck pickup is the Achilles heel...it's not in the sweet spot like the les paul. I own a js1000 but I would take mahogany with a maple cap any day over basswood.
In 1 I liked the Gibson tone better. Just richer to my ears. 2 I liked the Ibanez better. 3 is Gibson because of the fatter and creamier center position tone. In 4, I think the Ibanez had more tone and attack on single notes. Less mass controlling the string maybe. Maybe the better neck.
Seems like use the Gibson for rhythm and the Ibanez for leads and whammy stuff for studio work. The Ibanez is more modern and the Gibson is a timeless Rock and Roll legend. The Ibanez will never earn the place the Gibson holds in history, or will ever be played by so very many influential players. The Ibanez is a much more practical everyday musicians gigging guitar. Much lighter on the shoulder for long gigs, Titanium neck reinforcements, easily replaceable bolt on neck etc. I am a Gibson guy all the way just because I like all the vintage stuff. I am an SG guy though because of Iommi and Young. How is that for an unbiased and detailed opinion? Hope it works for ya.
+locomotivebrain 😆👍
+HUGO FUGUSEV Thanks for the comment! 👍
I thought they both sounded FANTASTIC And nearly identical. Your playing was incredible.
+cdreid99999 Thanks man! I appreciate it!
Very nice comparison and great playing. Yes, they both have their flavor (you can mostly tell in the clean tones) but most important, they compliment each other perfectly.
Your channel is so awesome man! i love the quality, presentation everything! great work 👌
+Sarthak Gaikwad Thanks!
I'm glad you are enjoying the channel 😀
Ibanez every time. So versatile, sounds just as sweet. It can do everything the Les Paul can do and then some. Anyone wants to disagree, just get yourself an EQ/boost pedal.
goosebumps at 5:03
i love that LP sound in Green ocean burst or emerald green is my dream but way to expensive for me
Ibanez all day long. Can't beat an RG for the money. It's one of the most versatile guitars I've ever owned.
The Gibson has that sweet creamy voice and the RG has a bright sparkling voice. I think they are both great. Comparing tone is like comparing color.
One of the things I learned from playing an Ibanez bass is that I can pretty much get any sound out of it that I want. In your demo, I preferred the Ibanez 2:1. Knowing what I know of the brand I choose Ibanez.
Wow! There is not much of a difference! The clean sound of the Ibanez is much better than the cheap RG I had back in the day. I know I might appear biased but I was not aware that the RG's were that good.
Cool comparison Darrell! Thanks!
+Jens Larsen No problem! I'm glad you enjoyed the video 👍
The RG on neck pick up clean sounds amazing
it depends on the rg. Im a bit of an ibanez fanboy but i can tell you the 'scoop' on them. IF you get one with INFINITI pickups you'll need to replace them asap. If nothing else with gfs pickups.. theyre awful. Body shapes are fantastic (my non ibby boddys annoy me now) but the standard rgs are Fat. As far as cutaways they have the best fret accessability of anythign ive ever played. NO neck is faster than an ibby wizard. Their necks are fantastic. Their trems are generally shit unless you get an original edge etc. Take a $200 used rg though and put 300 in it (pickups and floyd rose) and nothing under a grand will come close to it .
Agree, and Darrell's RG is a top of the line, so it's got nice pickups, nice trem, and nice tuners. I had a cheap RG from the 80's, and the frets were sharp on the edges, the high E string got stuck under the edge of the higher frets, and the pickups were muddy. The FR trem NEVER stayed in tune and was VERY difficult to adjust, even after a professional setup, so I sold it.
they are
Wow Master of editing! Thnx for sharing dis nice comparison, good job!!! 1 blessed❤
+Anku Tom Thanks Anku!
Another Very well made video by you. 👍. You have made it hard to decide about which guitar to get. Like one of your subscribers have mentioned before me, I may have to buy both and just increase my arsenal. Lol.
+Al Coholic 😀👍
Thank you for the demonstration. I prefer the Ibanez because I have smaller hands, and love the sound.
Love them both! I have an Ibanez coz I've always been a fan of versatility but I definitely gotta have les Paul one day too.
great video!!
Both sounded outstanding! I would need to play each one to see which one inspires me
It's no secret that the Les Paul is a standard in the studio and has been used on many famous albums. Even if an artist doesn't play a Gibson, they will sometimes be handed a Les Paul for tracking because of it's tone. Especially for rock.
That said, it's still all about the player and their individual style. So, it's not so much about which is "better". As you already say above, it's about "which is right for YOU?"
I've played a Les Paul for over 20 years. But I also have an Ibanez and love it. i just love guitars, Fenders, Ibanez, whatever, they are all cool!
However, my sound in the band I play in, I couldn't see not playing a les paul.
bitshred I absolutely agree in the long run the LP has the final say simply because of it's versatility and that fuller sound.
The RG just sounds better to me. I have an RG655 and it is flawless. The edge trem system stays in tune better than any Floyd Rose I've ever had. The pickups can do it all and the super wizard neck is the best guitar neck on the planet. The Gibson is a good at what it does but they are way overpriced and their quality control is not what it once was. But if you've got a lot of money to burn and you like baseball necks, they are nice guitars.
ohplezz idk but i like the steve vai ibanez jem more than the rg
I started with an Epiphone les Paul and once I bought a Ibanez RG655 Prestige my playing improved much more. The Ibanez just felt better to me, but I think it all depends on what you feel is comfortable to play !
ive never seen a 655 before. It looks like its pretty much a JEM... most rg's dont have a picguard.
Finally someone that did a proper comparison. Thanks. I'll definitely stick with my RG, hehe! 👍🏼
truuuu
Really like these videos
+Luke Armenia Thanks! I'm glad you are enjoying the channel :)
I've got both and really love the sustain on the Les Paul. BUT the Ibanez is a killer guitar! And a real beauty as well!
Wow what a great comparison. I do like them both. I just find the sound of the RG more interesting in this case. I have a LP, but got into Ibanez about 10 years ago or so and really like them. Like the Ibanez bass also. Everyone needs one of everything. Like skittles.
I hope you've cleaned the fret board on that RG by now haha. Love the videos!
I loved this video!
I'm guessing the Ibanez cost much less than the Gibson and since they both sound similar, the Ibanez is the better value. I actually think these guitar comparison videos are excuses for guitar players to show off their playing ability. Darrell Braun, you kick ass on guitar and made both guitars sound the same.
+D Roman 😄 Thanks!
Yes, the Ibanez is much more affordable 👍
@@DarrellBraunGuitar so why you don't compare with the Ibanez Prestige Series to make it more comparable? Maybe the LP sounds even more muffled and more like grandmas surgical stockings instead of modern sportswear? :-P
Actually surprisingly I own a rg series it is just rg series (rg421mol) and I own a les paul too but if you keep the les paul in eflat you can really play mid 80's to late 80's rock stuff and I keep the ibanez in standard tuning and play metal/heavy metal with it. So when compared I would say both are great and you can't go wrong with either of those but the les paul according to me because of the elegant tone it has that's just unbeatable.
*according to me wins
I can never go back to a thin guitar. There is something about a resonating slab of wood that feels so good to play
I bet you love wood
Hey Darrell,
The timing on this is interesting. I learned on and still play a LP. I recently picked up a guitar with a 5 way switch in a HSS pickup configuration. The tonal possibilities are really nice with the new one. As with this RG the bridge humbucker/middle single combo really is my favorite. The warmth of the Les Paul is undeniable but a shredder can sure get some quality work done on the RG. Great playing for the demo as always.
+Ding Nice! That's a great pair of instuments to have!
You are a great guitarist and you can make any guitar sound extremely cool!!
+Aditya Bajpai Thanks for the kind words!
I have both, LP and Ibanez, It's hard to decide. Somedays I like to play the LP and others my 665 prestige :D
+lolispain That's a great problem to have! 😎
Beautiful playing!
Great video!
I have an LP (epiphone tough, no money for the real thing) and an Ibanez 970 with the same configuration as the one in the video. For strumming chords and light overdrive ritmic lines I prefer LP, also sepparate controls for each pickup is a huge plus. But I find the Ibanez is a "working man's" guitar, with the trem, the 3 pickups (that middle one sounds so sweet), the 5 position switch, the great satin neck, the light weight and the comfortable curves. Both guitars are great and I love them both.
Great video and thanks for bringig the RG in the spotlight :D
+dosto911 Thanks for the comment!
Glad you liked the comparison :)
I actually like the way the Ibanez sounds. But, I've never been a fan of the way they look. I can't help but to think glam metal. Where as the Les Paul looks like a nice mature classic guitar all around guitar.
Les Paul is definitely beautiful.
Mad Minute That, at least, is a good subjective opinion. Aesthetics are important too. Saying one sounds objectively better than another (lots of folks seem keen on doing that) is just silly; you can decide which you like better, but there's no point hating on people for their opinions. This is a nice change. :D
Mad Minute Tons of glam bands used Les Pauls
Austin Perrelle Yep. But, when you think of glam ridiculousness, Les Pauls aren't what pops in your head. It's BC RICH, Kramer, etc... And, most Ibanez. When I see a guitar that looks as if it can be used as a weapon due to the sharp edges, it just isn't want I want to look at. Now there are Ibanez that I like. Just not the Steve Vai looking ones. Although Steve Vai does seem like a pretty cool guy.
check out the ibanez art series. Theyre stunning. Just not as well known. And they sound magical (not taking ANYTHING away from lp's)
All this controversy is just nonsense. People starting to swear to each other - see below comments started 3 weeks ago. Each guitar is amazing in different way. You can't say any one of them is a junk. Look out for the guitar players playing Gibson (Slash, Page, Moore, Wylde etc) or Ibanez (Vai, Satriani, Malakian etc): really do you think any of them will play a "junk" guitar?Yes I understand that the guitars can be suitable for a certain style of music...but from here to say one of them is bad...that is a long shot.
Michel Oldfield
THANK YOU, i saw someone was ripping on ibanez the other day on a different video, it seems that whenever someone plays ONE guitar they don't like or enjoy by a company that company sucks, and its not at all the fact that people have different styles and preferences when it comes to guitar
I salute you genius.
Both guitars sound virually identical and both are really cool, but your playing is what makes the video worth watching. Thanks.
Darrell --your videos are the greatest! Enjoyed it as usual. The LP is so classic and beautiful, and responsible for so many great tunes over the past 50 years that you can't say it hasn't earned its place in the rock genre. But then if you're really into metal, a true aficionado of dive bombing and tremolo sounds (think of all the sounds Satch gets out of his tremolo!), the RG is the tool for the job. I will say that the single coil center pickup of that RG sounded beautiful though!
Darrel...this is a tough one !!!...It's an impossible choice to make...can I have both ?? :P
Love your channel...and it has become my favorite guitar channel...keep up the good work...it's awesome.
+Barti True! It's definitely a tough choice 😀
Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it!
The Gibson just sounds warmer to me...
i thought i caught that in one riff a bit too.. and im an ibby fanboy. But im not sure it's not just the player. He's a fantastic guitarist and ill bet can get amazing tone from anything..
that's because it is warmer
Les Paul is warmer for sure. How much of that is the pups?
@@brandonanderson2066 Check out Darrel's video "ALUMINUM vs WOOD Guitar Tone Comparison" -- shows really well the difference the guitar construction makes even with the same pickups.
Just catching up on some of your videos, and I had to give a thumbs up for including some great Kravitz (& Slash!) in there!
Each guitar stands out with its own voice, so my own preference depends on what's being played. For the bridge selection, I think a combo of the two would rock: Ibanez for the first part (on the left), LP for the second (on the right). The LP just sounded a little better on those higher notes, to me. For the neck selection, the LP had a fuller underwater sound. The Ibanez shone beautifully in the middle pickup section though; while the LP sounded good, the Ibanez stole it there.
Great video, as usual!
+Josh Wolf Thanks!
You're one of only a couple people to recognize that song! 👍
Man, both guitars sound awesome. Each has a unique sound quality and it would depend on what sound I was looking for to choose between them. I think one aspect that you just can't judge from watching a video is how each guitar feels to play. My favorite has always been the Gibson Explorer, an absolute beast of a guitar... but it suits me.
Just goes to show that the "tone" is primarily an electrical signal - as long as the PU configuration is the same the harmonic content does not change significantly.
I can't hear a damn difference
hahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahhahaha :)
The LP was far more stable, even and clear.
Prince Blake go play drums
I'm a drummer and I could hear the difference with crappy phone speakers... Listen closer or get your hearing checked.
The les paul is more soft and clear, while the ibanez is more aggressive
I like how you played this Les Paul! :)
awesome video, loved the playing. I've never taken notice of Ibanez guitars in general, but I liked the features that one offered. Are you using NYXL's on the Les Paul?
+lando27music Thanks!
I just buy the D'addario 3 pack basic strings for all my guitars. I'd like to try the NYXL's some time though. Have you used them?
yes, I use them all the time. Usually the 10s. They are more expensive, but they do what they claim. I've yet to break one.
+lando27music Nice!
I'll have to check them out :)
I'm a Gibson/Epiphone man myself. I had a Ibanez RG520 years ago, but I never really could get into it. Just wasn't my style of guitar ya know. Now I have 3 SG guitars which I love.
I have multiple ibbys etc. Thinking of maybe getting an sg. Not sure why honestly.... what made you love the sg
cdreid99999 my guess is angus young. That’s what is on his profile pic.
Plus he’s what got me into them too.
both sounded great....but I think the Less Paul was just a little brighter sounding.
always on the run!!!
+David Gonzalez You're the first person to recognize that one! 🏆🏆🏆
Another very enjoyable, well made and interesting video by Darrell! My impression of the comparison is the RG having a nicer lead sound, while the Les Paul seems to have a more robust rhythm tone. My only surprise is how effortlessly Darrell plays the RG, even if it has a pickup in the middle. I have the middle pickup on my Strat almost level with the pickguard; if I had an H-S-H guitar, I would certainly bring down the middle pickup, because I simply find it impossible to play with a when it´s level with the outer pickups. It gets in the way!
+MetalMan73100 Thanks!
Yeah, not everyone likes a middle pickup - it definitely can get in the way of your picking hand!
Both guitars sound totally fan-freaking-tastic (although I think much of that is your playing). My personal preference would be the Les Paul based only on looks. It really is a beautiful instrument...
Nice solo, man! both are really cool, but I will give win to Ibanez
Both guitars are awesome instruments, love the color of the Ibanez. Thubs up to your channel for good and content! Cheers from Puerto Rico \m/ :) \m/
Hi DB! I’ve watched this video a few times with several days in between! I gotta say since I’m old school, I usually prefer Les Pauls, but man, I dare say that Your Ibanez sounds just a bit better... more detail in the notes, more clarity! I had been thinking that a PRS SE was gonna be my next guitar but I think there’s a gap in my collection that an RG can fill! It’s such a great “everything” instrument! And it’s got a Floyd! (Ibanez Edge) I’m going to go play some later this week and we’ll see what happens! The tone is great and Yours looks fabulous! Thanks!!!
I purchased an Ibanez S470DXQM off of Reverb! Never got to try one last week! Based on your reviews and a few others I think I’ll really like it! It should be here tomorrow! Also ordered a used Ibanez case from another seller! I’m under $450 for the whole rig shipped to my house! Looking forward to new guitar day!!! Thanks DB!!!
It is a little bit unfair to compare a Gibson LP with a "Premium" level Ibanez which is still a bit on the "cheap" side of Ibanez line, but nevertheless, both guitars have their areas where they excel and will appeal to different people. Or to the same people, for different purposes.
I myself own 4 Ibanez guitars but wouldn't mind a LP and will probably get one next year as Gibson have come out with the "Tribute" line which seems quite interesting.
Price is not about how good the guitar is but who made this so i think it's not unfair here. LP is expensive because it's made in USA. By the way i liked Ibanez more
Piotrek Lesiński Then compare a prestige Ibanez made in Japan. The premium line is midrange at best.
3:56, was that inspired by "Metallica- Bleeding Me", somehow?
I'm really curious, just wanted to check out if I'm right
Oh, great video BTW, subscribing is a must
+Alexandre Antunes Thanks for the kind words!
That is a song by Dream Theater called "Peruvian Skies" They may have been inspired by Metallica though :)
Oh, I'm glad that now I know it, you sure do got interesting videos, would you consider doing a video like
"Cheap stratocaster replica vs stratocaster comparison?"
+Alexandre Antunes I'll see what I can do!
Darrell Braun Guitar Thank you!
+Alexandre Antunes Anytime 👍
Does not matter which guitar I like most, your videos are not only perfect, but you are a guitar god :-)
+David Monroe 😄 Thanks David!
this is a great video. i just want to stress that playing both in a store so that you can hear them both in person would be a good idea before making a choice
Overall I'd have to choose an rg. Easy on the hands, back, nice clarity in tone and stays in tune better due to the Gibson headstock flaw
They sound identical
To me, nothing beats a Les Paul neck pickup, especially on distortion during solos. Heavenly.
Great video, thanx Darell!
I have Gibson USA Les Paul Classic '98, amazing guitar! But also i want Ibanez RG Prestige (1820X for example), this is my old dream. Both guitars are great!
Thanks!
I find it's a good combination.
The ibanez is light and easy to play, and the Gibson is great for in the studio ☺
Agreed! But honestly, i don't fully understand why people find Les Paul heavy? That's 5 kilograms of power! :)
😄👍
It's all what you get used to I suppose!
I CAN'T MAKE UP MY MIND....I HURTS MY HEAD LIKE BRAIN FREEZE. HAHA LOL.... I'm with Abe...I must have them both🤤
+towerdutydad 😄👍
The les Paul has the woman shape and the rg has the man shape.
You know it
good thing i like putting men next to my waist.
G1
That's subjective I m sure. But, I ask what s the tone of the tele to your ears. This is where most people find a love / hate relationship with the telecaster. Even the modified with dual humbuckers. But, I am more than curious as to what it is that makes tele s something you don't feel good about.
dependent upon how versed you are with either. It equals out the same....really. The more familiar you are with either the better you become and picking all the right strings and accomplishing your original goal. Which in truth is the same no matter which. You always want to make beautiful music, or rock the world or ......what ever the personal goal may be. But, only if its in perspective.
Thanks for the review.!!.. gretings from argentina!!
Anytime! ☺
Couldn't decide, both sounded fan bloomin tastic!
the rg has better access to 12> frets but the Les Paul definitely wins. maybe the rg should be tuned down to d and put a capo on the second Fret. because it's a headache tuning Floyd roses to different tunings. id suggest a Les Paul tho. only if a tremolo is needed and I need not change the tuning I'd go for the rg
+Stoned Gamer Yeah, using multiple tunings on a locking nut / floating trem guitar is a big pain in the butt!
I bought a schecter 7 because the thoughht of tuning down one of my floyd roses gave me nightmares......
as always, les
paul. great video
PD, beautiful guitar
Do not put down the Ibanez RG it is a great guitar ...I am not saying is better than Les Paul but they are both great guitars (see my comments above)
Loved them both I’m a traditionalist at heart. I have a cherry red Les Paul with a PAF in the neck & a DiMarzio super distortion in the bridge. I have Texas special Strat, a SG custom & a Ibanez S series custom out of Hollywood Ca, with Two Double coils one in the neck & one in the bridge with a single coil in the center, That said my favorite guitar to play is the Ibanez S series but that RG sounded killer.
Preferred the RG for soloing. (I've always loved guitar instrumentals).
RG for speed and attack. Les Paul for soul and clarity...hard to choose, I for one cant...
i think the bridge pickup sounds the same in both guitars
fantastic video. I love the Ibanez for how easy it is to play vs. a Les Paul, but man that Gibson just takes it to a whole other dimension in terms of tone, warmth and kick ass rock and roll vibe. great playing.
+Elliot Rose Thanks Elliot! 😀
Thanks for doing this. I jumped back an forth a bunch my second time watching (because you tend to stay a while on each and I wanted to have a more bang-bang comparison, just to be sure). I am surprised to say that hands down for me, in every test, the RG sounded better. It was bright at times when you wanted it to be, and it crunched and sang out so well. The LP always seemed to be just a bit more muted and even muddier, which is so surprising. Anyway, you are the man. Awesome playing too! LP has such a great vibe, but if I were a studio musician, id be all about bringing my Ibanez when it counts. The suggestion to tune down and capo to second fret is a good idea and it gives you the same # of frets as the LP, while still letting you switch tunings fast. RG also wins out on functionality. It's pretty, but LP is prettier. That's the only thing LP has over it.
+Trent Mason No problem! Glad you found it helpful 👍
I thought that too at the start. Especially with them playing over themselves, but the longer I listened the more I liked the warmth of the LP. Big question for me is, does the main difference in tone come from the pickups, or the woodwork? I'm thinking it's mostly the DiMarzio Ceramic pickups that are giving it the crispness.

lol dude my winters are hotter than your summer. I live in india
+Stoned Gamer Must be nice!
I'm already freezing and it's only October 😑
Darrell Braun Guitar dude . you don't know our summer . it's unbearably hot especially for you as you live in Canada. I live in Hyderabad where it's a mostly dry landscape with plenty of rainfall if that makes sense. It's so hot that winter afternoons bring us headaches . you're lucky to have freezing temps as you can get away by wearing heavy(metal) clothing and we can't go naked on the street using the same logic ain't we
Darrell Braun Guitar *is not nice
Darrell Braun Guitar our winter sets in in January and lasts for truly only 2 months and the temps are not even near 0. id love a mini ice age at this point
+Stoned Gamer 😄 That description sounds rough!
Not great for guitars either!
Couldn't decide so i bought both. Then a strat & 2 PRS. Love 'em all.
White pups look STUNNING over that red! Love the pristine original version of the cherry burst too. Almost ironic that you see faded bursts more often than proper cherry burst.
+Will Smyser Thanks!
Yeah, a Cherry Burst seemed appropriate on a Traditional :)
in terms of design i go for gibson les paul
badong tornado Well, gibson have designed a guitar that won't stay in tune and charge you several thousand for it.
Really
You cant play metal on a tele
Jim Root:HOLD MY BEER
I didn't realize they sound essentially the same. Great video! Thanks
+Desmond Gates Glad you liked the comparison 👍
Your blind test of every videos is useful for me, just because it allows me to recognise my style of playing and my taste of music. If u ask me which is my favourite guitar according to your blind test it is les paul
RGs are better in almost every respect when compared to LPs. They're more comfortable, more stable, lighter, and I have found them to be more versatile (they don't make an 8 or 9 string Les Paul)
Dan Lucas great point about the ability to rock 7, 8, and 9 strings too. RG was better in sound too. I didn't expect that. And considering I own 2 LPs and zero Ibanez guitars, that's a tough thing to admit.
i hate them for every reason you just mentioned LOL
My LP is lighter than my RG. The RG is around 9 pounds (it has a mahogany body, not basswood), the LP a tad lighter. I do agree the Ibanez is more comfortable. And yet, I pick up my LP more often. It just has something that is hard to explain (for me). In my opinion, the Ibanez is more versatile too. Having said that, my LP can do stuff the Ibanez can't.. and vice versa. The Ibanez can just do more different things. YMMW
Could it be that your LP is chambered?
+Dainius Vyšniauskas I'm not 100% sure, Danius. They WILL weight relieve them if they can't get the weight to a certain threshold with the wood (they do use relatively light wood). Also, I shouldn't call mine an LP.. as it's not a Gibson nor an Epiphone (and no.. it's not a Chibson.. lol). It seems to be solid if I tap the body all over. But if I want to be sure, I would need to x-ray it (can't always tell by tapping, depending on the type of weight relief). I guess certain people could hear it when playing it.. But I'm not one of those people.
For me, it all comes down to what kind of music is being played and who's playing it. Getting that out of the way, I think the scale length is important, I have an RG and a PRS single cutaway and the PRS is a lot easier to play because of the shorter scale length, it just sounds sweeter to my ears and by the way, they both have mahogany bodies so you can't throw in the tone wood argument that's all BS anyway. They are both good for Hard rock and metal but I think the PRS has a more classic tone for the old school stuff. Now if you think you have the best of both worlds in an RG ( Strat & Les Paul ) , you don't. The construction of both is quite different which makes the tone different and we all know that there are only two guitars in this world and that's a Fender Strat and a Gibson Les Paul. So just pick one our the other our reach deep into your pockets and get both and free yourself from a life of misery:)
the RG is basically a modified strat, and the prs is a slightly different Les Paul
La fender nunca me ha gustado es blusera , como de abuelitos.
man you are very musical, always playing tasty stuff
something about the Les Paul makes it my favourite guitar whenever it is compared with most other guitars. Now I say most because my appreciation of The Beatles has made the Gretsch Country Gentleman and the Rickenbacker 325 my favourite guitars
Les Paul's are just the best.
gibson win of course
They both sound great.I have a LP Iv'e had for about 15 years and I like it.BUT I have had 3 different RG's that I love for a more metal sound. The old school ash body RG is a ripper. The last one I bought was basswood and after swapping out pickups it does really well.Mahogany body RG450 will be next.I love my LP too but have a bad back,so that's why I love the RG (and laying on the whammy ,and the fastest neck I've ever played).Great video man.
+Brian Hearon Thanks!
I hear you on the weight of the LP. RG is soooo much easier on the back ☺
