- pop/funk band Haircut One Hundred will perform the entirety of their debut album "Pelican West" for the very first time
Haircut One Hundred's founding members Nick Heyward, Graham Jones, Leslie Nemes and Blair Cunningham will reunite for what promises to be an unforgettable night. Support comes from BBC 6 Music's DJ 'Mark Jones' of Back To The Phuture. "Haircut One Hundred were one of the first bands to make me feel like I could move my body legally" admits Jones. "It's a pleasure and honour to DJ at what promises to be a night of classic 80s pop and funky rhythms."

Pelican West includes the Top 10 hits Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl), Fantastic Day and Love Plus One. Originally released in 1981, Pelican West was one of the UK's first digital recordings and reached #2 in the Official UK Album Chart. The band exploded on the UK music scene just as the new wave boom was peaking. Success came quickly. The Haircuts appeared on Top of the Pops several times and graced the covers of British pop magazines Smash Hits, Record Mirror, New Musical Express, and they even had their own comic strip.

Nick Heywood was a still is SuperCute!! Great memories!! Fantastic!
That was AWESOME! They've still got the magic after all this time! :)
Wow !!! Watching I thought it now 2021 ! It’s 10yrs ago
I discovered pelican west as a teenage ski bum in lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies in 1983. I played it a million times while skiing countless feet of vertical and so on for many many years after. I still play it and love it. So great to see them ageing and sounding so well!
Great memory!
Loved Pelican West
Hi to the band, ironically my name is Blair and I conducted family funerals for Nick and Pete. Nicest guys you could ever meet all the best for the future!!!!!!
Les Nemes fantastic bass
Underrated musicality in a sea of pop/bop/slop. These guys and ABC were the standard that many headliners failed to meet. And the bass always was, and still is, world standard. Joy!
I loved these guys.my childhood.i played pelican west endlessly 🙂
they sound excellent
So good to see this.
There was a lot of great music around at that time it was like the 60's happening again in the way that we left the (mostly) awful 70's behind and there was this great new optimism about. A great time to be 16!
Sounds so positive and happy, makes you feel happy :)
Sound great still. Good band shame it ended to soon in the 80s. Glad they made up and playing again. Life to short to hate. Good on you boys and great sounding music.
Good Band, Remember this Vid when I was in 1st grade
Fantastic
Fantastic!!!!
SO good. Lovely to see this. I did really love the later stuff like Prime Time, So Tired etc. too. Would love them to do another album!
Watch the band at 3:35. Nick is going into one of his lovely creative rambles as he is wont to do and the bass player and the drummer are basically dissing him. Nick then says "they're the new and we're the old and it mixes well" whilst looking across to the others for some moral support at which point he just gets blanked. I think we see right there the dynamic that sent Nick off the rails in the 80's. He was so creative and talented and didn't get the support of the rest of the band. They were not at all sympathetic when he was having a breakdown due to all the pressure. Nick is sensitive, open, highly creative and isn't scared of being vulnerable. The rest of the band on the other hand seem defensive and closed emotionally. Nick had all the charisma too and was the heartthrob. I guess the others were jealous.
That's an AWFUL lot of assuming from one video clip about people you don't even personally know. You have no idea how big a knob Heyward behaved like back then, and it's generally not the policy of 20 year old men to nurse maid each other. When people behave bad there is usually enough guilt to go around for all... so stop blaming the rest of the band.
Wow, you sure made up a lot of bullshit. They're obviously friends and happy to be together.
You're right. Nick sees things from a different perspective to others. He's a creative genius. The others are equally creative, hence the band's success. But they lack his vision.
"They were not at all sympathetic when he was having a breakdown due to all the pressure."
That's because they didn't know, as is clear from the interviews on the new Pelican West re-issue...
Love this band!
Only lasted 2 years but lovely
I was at Maestros that night!
It was an Art Scholl party...the place was bouncin!
The band were a great live act
Lorraine kelly such a beautiful woman great legs and haircut 100 such a blast from the past.
Great to see this. Still sounding good.
Then seen Nick Heyward 3 times live with his solo projects at 80s festivals Rewind and Lets Rock
Loved seeing them this morning! Thanks for posting, so good to see it again & great memories of my teen years! :)
I wish I could get my Acoustic Bass to sound like that!
Bands reunited.
That bass is awesome!
Think he played an Aria2
Brings back memories "thumbs up" guys. 2 members missing though.
Great band... indeed!
Maestos is now incorporated into the CCA...CCA Glasgow - Centre for Contemporary Arts
They sound so good! Where's Mark and Phil??
Phil Smith is still an in demand session musician. He has projects and essentially a job. He is a great, and can't really contribute the energy and schedule to these one-off things. Dude pays the bills. As it is, modern Haircut 100 is just blokes having a laff.
(Not a friend or acquaintance of Phil. Just an interested observer.)
VH 1 show bands reunited is responsible for getting them back together
A great band.
Remember the love plus 1 vid when I was in 1st grade
I saw these at. the Echo-wee Queenway Hall Dunstable way back.in 1982
Pretty damn good!
Actually - this was my favourite song of theirs!
Good performance from the old boys. I had to categorise Pelican West on eBay a while back and I ummed and rrred a bit over whether it was New Wave or 80s Pop eventually settling on 80s Pop but if there had been a category for New Wave-Pop I would have used it.
Voice hasn’t aged as much as other singers
Wonder where Phil Smith the original sax player has gone .. ?
Rumor has it that he is now a music instructor @ Chichester Uni ... ?
OMG.......
30 yerrrrrrrrrrrs sacarry lol.
good luck to them, I guess.
@ BetNoire: Normal is the new weird these days, didn't you know that?
probably one of the best looking guys in pop in the 80's, but as we can see looks fade to be honest, I always thought he was gay or maybe the truth is I wished he was thanks for the wet dreams Nick
I had a massive (pre teen) crush on the him, back in the H100 days. He's about 50 here, still looks good. I like this version of Fantastic Day.
wow , didnt recognise nick
Great stuff, a shame Nick couldn’t handle the star trip.
Where did they get those backing singers from ? Could have least got some attractive chicks.
They don’t half talk shit on tv. This band had one album, they were not the soundtrack of the 80s...
They sound great.
