I'm amazed at what some of the old surplus rifles I bought cheaply years ago are going for these days. Heck, guns, in general, have gotten really expensive.
Yes I do, I joined the army in 1984 and got out in 2005, during that. I always enjoyed the military stores. I have several pieces of military clothing and sleeping bags. I think the military built some of the best clothing in the world.
Used to buy army surplus for camping equipment. Great stuff for Pennie’s on the dollar. Back in the day you could spend $5 on something from American Camper and it might last one camping trip without breaking or you could buy surplus and it would last a lifetime. Got to work in a surplus store when I went to college. Had to stop since I was spending more money than I was earning.
It's funny you touched on this subject of surplus. For some reason, I have found myself going through my surplus, showing it to my six year old son and explaining what they do, and looking to see what's still out there. Also watching videos again on the USGI poncho, mess kit, poncho liner, combat shelter, etc. Are you ever right about that Swiss Link too! I bought 6 new magazines for my Swiss K31 to go into a Swiss bandolier that they fit in. I liked that idea over the rare waxy cardboard stripper clip. That was back in 2015 though. I got a good supply of all kinds of surplus to include some of the nice Hex receiver Mosins, a mint condition Nagant Revolver dated 1914. USGI modular sleep system in Woodland camo. Those items are great, and I have fun using them. They are certainly good to have in any emergency as well. Thank you for the video Sir!! I happen to think that the greatest Military Surplus you landed is your M37, the "Chick Magnet". Now that my friend is a true score!!
I remember when you could go to a Surplus store and get some good camping gear and clothes for very reasonable prices. Not anymore, they want near new prices for everything now.
I had a pair of world war 1 writing mittens that were used in Europe and when I worked for the local museum I donated them because they didn't have anything like that and they could care for them better than I could......
I want to thank you for your amazing videos! I started watching your videos years ago because I was obsessed with the Dodge M37, so i found your channel and I haven't stopped watching since! I'm a younger man at 26yrs old but I love your wisdom and your tricks of the trade. Thank you for your amazing content and for years of enjoyment!
I noticed for a while we got a lot of British police, and postal surplus here, also Polish police uniforms. Seemed odd, but it makes sense you wouldn't want to put the stuff out into the public inside the country.
Bought a lot of mil surp from Fleet Farm, all kinds of gear. Crazy good deals. As an example, a guy could get one hell of a canvas pack for $10. All of my friends were dropping $200 for a Duluth Pack for the BWCA, and here I was with $20 in military surplus gear, and I wasn’t any worse off.
I've got lots of surplus. Some I bought and some from 22 years in the army. Funny thing is my original issue stuff from pre desert storm is still kicking. Most of the newer crap from Iraq is already worn out. They don't make it like they used to!
I was ahead of you on the German KFS sets and have a few. They are the best design and quality. I did buy a Swedish parka last time you recommended them but although the quality was great, I didn't feel it to be useful for me. Sold it for a profit though! Dutch M90 boots were fabulous but they were back in the good old days, 25 years ago and now long gone.
Thank goodness i aquired an Swiss, German, Swedish, and USGI mess kits. Got a pile of the german eating utensils and a large like new Polish 2 piece Lavvu poncho shelter. Good bits of kit for not much money, but now those items are sought after and demand a premium.
thanks for your videos.. you are good to listen to.. wish i lived near you to hang out sometimes! .. i hope you don't mind me asking but you mention putting oil on your gloves.. what oil do you recommend for keeping the leather gloves good? be interesting to know Best wishes to you for a happy healthy future from Rolland in Scotland
I bought an old swiss wax lined backpack that is absolutely unreal as a dry bag for me. Very tough material, fully waterproof and I paid 15 bucks used (basically new).
Yep I remember the day I found out they quit selling surplus, that was too bad. I have a lot of stuff I still use regularly. They had a lot of really cool stuff, helmets, tools, etc.
The reason those gloves are built that way is so that your trigger finger was exposed so you could use it, and the parkas that were built by the military are the best
There is a huge Army Surplus store about a 40 minute drive from home, so only made the trip maybe once a year. The only thing that is the same about the store today and what they sell, is the musty smell from of all the old stuff. The smell must be embedded in the concrete and duct work. I start noticing it 30 feet from the front door! My guess is 90% of what they carry today is from China...
👍👍👍 .. good post. Yep, since my Military National Service in 1968 and subsequent 'Citizen Force' duty up to 1984, I've been sold on Military Surplus Gear .. no-nonsense, durable, relatively cheap aand it does the job. A Military Surplus (new / other gear too) Outlet to consider is the Finnish Company based in Helsinki, 'Varusteleka'. They have a huge range of products, old and new .. their pricing is good with excellent service delivery and post-purchase backup. Here in Switzerland, goods ordered and paid for on-line (easy peas) on a Sunday afternoon, finds itself on my doorstep Wednesday Morning .. by Standard Post and at reasonable cost. They deliver World-Wide. Their new Military Gear is good .. often being that currently used by the Finnish Armed Forces. A good bunch .. with a unique 'Finnish' sense of humour. Well worth a look-see .. their Website. Thanks for sharing .. take care ..
Man those were the days in the early 80s I would go there and dream of owning the whole store. They had everything I could dream of.
Wool clothing was my old stuff love it to this day
me too

I loved army surplus. Gave me plenty to dream about in my younger days. Nice post. Thanks
RUclips reminded me that some time ago I started watching this and never finished it. So here I am.
I have to agree with ya military surplus works great and is a cost saver. Sportsman guide sells a bit of surplus goods.

Surplus has become like the gun shows. High priced everything. Over priced aswell.
The good days are long gone.
When I was a kid Military Surplus Stores was great.

good to see ya again. God Bless. Stay safe, stay armed, stay free.

In the 80' early 90's in the UK we had loads of German army shirts with the German flag on each sleeve 99 pence.
I noticed for a while we got a lot of British police, and postal surplus here, also Polish police uniforms. Seemed odd, but it makes sense you wouldn't want to put the stuff out into the public inside the country.
Back in the 1950s a lot of us used surplus instead of branded scout stuff. Usually the GI quality bead the BSA branded stuff.

The "Archies" stores in Fargo and Fergus Falls had quite a bit of old goodies hidden away in the heaps back in the day.

Jus luv - love it all. Careful or reckless surplus buying always seems to work out pretty well. Mainly, I never go wrong with anything good surplus.
Colemans military surplus in Millerstown Pennsylvania is also a
good source of gear.
They are one of the best stores to order from. If there's an issue you actually talk to a person. Excellent service.
I bought an old swiss wax lined backpack that is absolutely unreal as a dry bag for me. Very tough material, fully waterproof and I paid 15 bucks used (basically new).
Military surplus is good but it's gotten expensive nowadays. I find most of my really good bargains at the auction sales now.

Miss the 70's and 80's surplus stores. Also glad I bought military firearms when I did.
My friend from Finland gave me the same kind of lobster claw type mittens. I think that design is popular in the Scandanavian countries.
👍👍👍 .. good post.

Might check out Americana Pipedream or Varustuleka
Those lobster gloves were designed that way so you could wear a mitten but still pull a trigger on your rifle.
What a treasure trove this old mans estate sale is going to be !!! I would love to be there provided the family doesn't just bulldoze the heap !!!!
Jesus
You appear to be of the age to have served in VN? Did you serve? In any capacity?
Nope, it was when they started doing the draft lottery, and I slipped by. I have always refrained from gambling since for fear I used up all my luck.

Ground hog says early Spring. Weather man says it’s your part of the world where it’s going to happen. Enjoy!
I remember and kick my butt for not loading up on them, sks's first hit the countrymy local gunshop was selling them for 35.00 each
Free internet yes but post internet no anyone can resell the stuff so bye-bye good deals because of people's greed I think
Maybe in a few years there will be russian and finnish and german surplus on the market again if this conflict crap blows over
We have a store called Sherpers. They use to be the go to mil surp store. They have gone the way on minimum over priced surp. Now expensive store.
I remember them in southeast Wisconsin. Haven't been to one of there stores since I left 17 years ago.
Still one here in Hales Corners. Not sure if the one in Oconomowoc is still open.
The good old days.
