I Called Kaufman's a few days ago to order ny " Canteen, Cold Weather " after i saw B;lackie show
the video of the one he bought there. I spoke to Jennifer and she was very nice and helpful. I bought
my Canteen and cover for $30.00 and shipping to Cherr'ville, NC was only about $7.00.
    Thanks Blackie for the referral.

Oh my gosh I love going to a good army surplus store! My husband couldn't care less about any of it.
So I just prefer to go by myself.
It's just a real drag being all excited about it, enthusiastically picking things up, only to have the person with you be impatient/bored lurking around the perimeter of the store go- "huh. cool." all ready to leave in 5 min. 👎
      Pass! 💃🏻 lol

When I was a kid a trip to the Army Surplus store in the 1950's was big really big. We would save all our money and buy all the cool stuff we could get all of us had those pants with the huge pockets on the legs, machetes, pistol belt with all the pouches. We played Army from the time we got up until dark and sleep in the back yard in our tents. Our store was over twenty miles away it was like going to the amusment park for us.

They an't the same, when I was a kid (50s and early 60's) and if you can manage to save $2.00, usually from cutting lawns, that was a whole Saturday afternoon of shopping. You can actually buy American ww2 military surplus. Now they called collectibles and charged hundreds of times what I paid. Free market supply and demand. I still half a dozen m1 carbine pouches which I paid 10cent each and a couple Collins and Shefield machetes with sheaths for 1.50 ea., long gone days and fond memories. 😊

    G'Day from Australia,
Really enjoyed the walk through your local army surplus store. It reminded me of a now gone surplus store in Melbourne. It was run by two brothers who always seemed to be having a barney/row but they had all sorts of surplus equipment. Ex-British/Commonwealth gear mostly but some WW2 and later US issue. We used to have a chain of surplus stores that went under the name of "Aussie Disposals" and they were everywhere. Now they only seem to operate from their original huge warehouse and on line. I used to love browsing around their stores and buying practical, robust gear for camping, fishing and hunting. I still have some ex-OZ army clothing that doesn't seem to wear out! Most of the surplus gear that I've picked up of late has been bought at garage sales. Thanks for all your videos. I've learned a lot from them.
    Cheers,
    Steve

The flag on the field jacket is Belgian. Looks to be from 60s I think or maybe early 70s as after that they have been using their unique ''jigsaw'' camo. I got an old Belgian ''paracommando'' rucksack online in olive drab, cost next to nothing, not the most comfortable or ergonomic but tough as nails and use it as a bike rack pannier.

Mein Gott! I need to get to Alabama. We still have a few good surplus stores in Oklahoma but this is another level. In OK, for the Tulsa area, I recommend Weekender Surplus in Broken Arrow, OK as its a small mom and pop store with all real milsurp. For OKC I recommend Brigadoon Surplus. Other great locations are Omaha's in Fort Worth, TX is excellent as is The Bunker in Farmington, NM.
There was a small milsurp shop in Cheyenne, WY by the name of Sergeant's I think. If its still there its worth dropping by. A little cramped but great to dig through.

Easily the coolest place I've ever seen. We don't have anything remotely like that where I live.

Never been in a surplus store that the isles didn’t get narrower as you went along. Can’t even get in ours. In a wheelchair. Prices sure have gone up since I was a kid (68 now).

Watched your other short video on the cold weather canteen and then this entire video...very interesting! Took the plunge and called Kaufmans and ordered 2 canteens plus canteen pouch.
Got my ups order from Kaufmans and am happy with the excellent condition steel canteens. Also got a swatch of the OD cotton fabric forgot to ask if they have the OD fabric in the nylon/cotton 50/50 mix. That canteen pouch appears well made.
Blackie, thanks for making these videos and making a source for items available.
    Question please,
does anyone know if the replacement cap for the cold weather canteen is the same size as the GI quart and two quart canteen? One canteen cap size fits the cold weather canteen plus the quart and two quart sizes?
I am thinking of acquiring an extra canteen cap to put away.
    Thanks!
