It was stone cold, and it is supercharged so there's a lot of mechanical noise going on. Duesenbergs were not as refined as something like a Packard Twelve, but they sure do make power. This car was also later found to have a lazy valve, so the head came off and got sorted. $$$
@@delewan I was rather comparing it to the supercharged Mercedes-Benz 540K engine, another jewel of an engine which imo was another superbly engineered German engine. You have to hand it to them really.
@WeeShoeyDugless The straight-8 engine in the Mercedes 540k made almost 100 less horsepower (265 > 180), less lb-ft of torque (374 > 318) and was slower than the Duesenberg Model J's Straight-8 (the least powerful of the three trims). Gotta hand what to Mercedes? The award for making an inferior engine to something built in 1920, almost 20 years before you? So this engine is better than the trash in the 540k, in every way imaginable, and you're less impressed with it? This is you: 🤡
@@mercurylincoln755 I think you have a problem with reading English mate (well, you would do coming from the US!) I was not dissing the Dusenberg engine in any way, I was merely stating my preference. You also made yourself look like a 🤡 by misunderstanding simple English yet again when you wrongly presumed I was 'handing it' to Mercedes-Benz when in actual fact I was 'handing it' to the Germans. Dusenberg brothers - German. Daimler & Benz - German. Is that clear enough for your simple brain? 🤡 And if you really wasnt to talk about power from a straight eight, I suggest you take a look at the straight eights Mercedes-Benz made for their GP cars pre-WW2, makes the Dusy engine look rather tame. Again, not dissing Dusenberg, merely stating facts. You see, had Mercedes-Benz wanted to make a more powerful engine, they would have. Have a nice day🤡
@@delewan - as it was cranking in the first few seconds, I was thinking to myself that it sounded like it was down on compression on 1 or 2 cyl's! Glad it wasn't just my imagination. ;)
This transcends mechanics and engineering and becomes art, a sculpture almost.
Cars worth more than my neighborhood 😂
Beautiful old engine. Still 6v by the sound of it cranking.
All that noise and no sign of movement at all. Incredible!
Smooth as butter. That is unbelievable engineering!
Absolutely beautiful engine 👍👍
Inline 8. The most beautiful engine for car!
That's an I6
@@jordan9105 ok :)
That's a thing of beauty!!!
Engine sounds healthy
More please,beautiful engine lovely note
Love them duces
I think this is an SJ because it has a supercharger
It was born a normally aspirated J, and the supercharger was added later in life by Brian Joseph. 👍
Not as sweet as i had imagined?
