    The b8 and 8.5 rs5's have gone up in price tremendously since the turn of the year. You used to be able to get a fairly low mileage 8.5 for $32-35k USD...now you're lucky to find one in the mid 40's. Definitely a collector vehicle and investment as much as it is a gem to drive. Arguably one of the greatest european designs ever with a ridiculously beautiful exhaust note.

    I've owned all 3 of these models. I've stuck with the RS5. They're all great in their own right, really can't go wrong with any of them, unless you want an all weather vehicle without having to swap out summer tires for winter tires. There are some nice high performance all season tires, e.g.; Continental's, that handle great (excluding track days, which most of us don't do) that you can put on the RS5 and you're set for all weather conditions, excluding deep snow as the clearance is super low. IMHO, I believe the RS5 is hands down the best looking of the three with the best lines and I believe a timeless, classic look. If you get the M3, you gotta get the manual as it's way more fun and engaging than the DCT despite it being a good DCT. Further, upgrade the exhaust in the RS5 for even more insane tunes from its amazing engine. Besides this, I found the seats in C63 to too stiff and uncomfortable over extended driving time. Likely they've fixed that in the newer models. Mine was a 2012. Again though, all great, very, very fun cars that each make great notes from the engine/exhaust.

    RS5 has always been a dream car of mine(and I’m an American muscle car owner 😂) German sports coupes are like muscle cars that are easier to drive, with much nicer interior. (Except Mercedes, they’re ugly. Bite me). RS5 is so beautiful and sounds amazing. However, the aftermarket for these sucks. I’ve modified my 5.0 to 540 hp naturally aspirated for about $10k It sounds just as good, revs just as high, and over all is considerably faster than an RS5. Hard for me to justify spending more money for less performance, just to have a nice comfy interior 🤷‍♂️

    • @olik9388
      @olik9388 9 месяцев назад +1

      My timed 0-60 on this one is 3.7 seconds on a dry road. But you’re right, there are very few aftermarket performance options for these. The most power is gained from removing the catalytic converters, and the whole engine had to come out for that little exercise…

    The million $$$ question is how are these outside of warranty? The buy price is irrelevant to a point because keeping the vehicle on the road becomes the issue not what you spent to acquire it. As we know with all Euro vehicles parts are expensive and you need to be a car person yourself and have an understanding mechanic etc IMO.

    So I picked the RS5! I just picked one up last week and it has not disappointed. I drove all the cars in the video along with a Jaguar XKR and a TTRS. In the end, the RS5 checked off all the boxes, most notably, the sleeper and the backseat boxes. The backseat is great for my nephews, who are car lovers. It actually is perfect for younger kids and I can fit back there as well. Plenty of room and two different areas for drinks. I have to ask what X-pipe was used on the car you drove. Which X pipe was put on this car? Great Video!

    • @olik9388
      @olik9388 3 года назад +1

      I don’t think it’s a specific brand. I can send a picture of the underneath. The x pipe is positioned right after the front resonators on my car for perspective . The front and centre resonators were also removed as tested in that review. I’ve since has the cats removed as well (all up about 25 - 30 kg weight reduction from the exhaust). The sports exhaust option had been fitted to my car from factory. I couldn’t really tell you what the difference is from the standard exhaust. Sportier sounding apparently - whatever that means. I haven’t heard the two different types side by side. Audi can tell you the options fitted on the car by the chassis/vin number, so you can find out exactly what options were selected by the original owner.

    • @DaytonaGrey-RS5
      @DaytonaGrey-RS5 3 года назад

      @@olik9388 Okay, thanks! I was just curious if there was a specific brand you had on your car. Yes, I do have the sport exhaust option; it's a vacuum actuator that is located in the left side of the trunk. It opens up a valve on the exhaust in Dynamic mode. But the x-pipe brings out the note(s) of the v-8 very well. I see ECS and others have the x-pipe and AWE has a similar resonator delete without actually connecting the pipes into an X. I think if the sport exhaust is there in the car; you really only need to delete the resonators for more sound. I would not spend a few grand on a whole new system that has new downpipes and adds to the actuator from Audi. I like the sound! Thanks for writing back.

    Too bad you have to drop the engine in these cars to fix just about anything internally and they are super prone for camshaft offsets, rockers breaking, timing chain stretch to name a few. Its one of the best annoying cars to work on that 4.2L V8 and the 6cyl turbo. The 3.0 Surpercharged is probably the best of the bunch and least annoying to work on. A BMW m3 will have much better longevity and much easier to work on.

      Disagree, this is an 8300 rpm engine from a V10 gallarado. The c63 6.2 can only rev to 7k. Different animals. One sounds exotic at high revs (rs5) and other sounds deep and loud throughout powerband (c63)

    • @MrTroytroy
      @MrTroytroy Год назад

      @@Mike-cz2yw the Gallardo has a V10 not a V8. I high revving v8 sounds excellent and does feel exotic in a Ferrari kind of way - but in this case - has terrible fuel economy due to it having little torque down low and a heavy chassis (unlike the Ferrari) to haul around. This importantly effects its performance. Being naturally aspirated there is little to do increase its performance. Ironically The RS3 with the 2.5 liter is far better performance baseline (and has more relation to the V10 series engines - and sounds similar) The RS5 is more of a Grand Tourer than nimble fast sports car and suits a torquier engine - which they have subsequently done in later models (and BMW following suit). I guess the RS5 is a car that sounds fast and makes the driver feel fast.

    • @olik9388

      I don't feel much understeer because it has vectoring of the back wheels. So when you corner hard the inside wheel is braked to let the outside wheel spin the back of the car around. You can actually feel it doing this when cornering hard. I have 275/35 R20 rubber, so there is quite a lot of front-end grip to keep the front in line. It still doesn't have ideal dynamics for cornering given the weight of the front-end, but any understeer would not be noticed unless you were doing something crazy to overcome the enormous front-end grip.

      It’s not so bad so long as you don’t get the dealerships to service it. You can get OEM parts cheap from Europe and the US (usually Audi get them ex Germany as they don’t keep much here in inventory). After market parts can be better quality and even cheaper. I have found it’s not much different for routine maintenance than a HSV of FPV and I’ve owned both. Cheaper than an R35 GTR, though I had the dealership service that. If you own one of these you really need to find a good Euro independent. There’s a lot of good ones around and then it’s not so bad.

      I don’t think you get a lot of benefit increasing the intake flow on these without fixing the exhaust flow as well - though throttle response was noticeable. Exhaust is the biggest restriction. The cats are way too restrictive. We have removed them since this video and retuned the engine and transmission and it’s much more responsive and pulls harder all the way to redline. On that video it had the standard sports (Audi option) exhaust with an X-pipe, front resonator deletes and centre muffler delete. Since then I have deleted the cats, installed Flowmaster Super 10 mufflers, refitted the centre muffler (because you don't know loud until your hear it in that state) and had adjustable J-pipes installed to settle the noise a little bit more and get rid of cabin drone. I will be returning the car to the setup in the video because it sounded the best in my opinion (the only difference being that it will still be catless). The standard sports exhaust option sounds great on these cars, much better and louder than the non-sports exhaust option. I have a set of both mufflers for comparison. The larger diameter exhaust tip (the one with the vacuum valve) on the sports exhaust only has a small segment with holes in it through the muffler section, so very few gasses get muffled when the valve is open. So its almost straight through and unmuffled. In the non-sport muffler, the larger diameter exhaust tip has holes going all the way through it, so a lot more of the gasses pass through the muffler even when the valve is open. This is clearly visible when you look down the muffler tips. I have seen comparison videos on RUclips, but it does not capture the difference at all. You have to hear the difference in person. I have had both mufflers on my car. It really is night and day.

The biggest problem is electrical gremlins because they can be so hard to diagnose, and that's across all the Audi range. There's a RUclips video of JHM in the US doing 500 launches using the launch control on their test RS5 without issues. When you consider that these virtually rev and dump the clutch through the transmission and drivetrain at over 6000 rpm, that's handling some serious punishment. It feels brutal doing it - Just ask Johnny.
      General maintenance and servicing is expensive though, but less so if you avoid OEM parts and dealerships and use aftermarket parts that are far superior to the OEM.

    I bought a used Audi once. Six months later the thermostat needed replacing. Only a certified Audi mechanic had the tool needed! It end up costing around $1800!! And that was back in 2011! Be warned, massive maintenance costs owning a used Audi! Simply not worth it unless you lease it.

      I got a 5 year warranty with the RS5 (it did cost extra). I’m not sure if you can do that with a private sale. Avoid dealerships with these cars. There’s plenty of great Euro car independents that can do all the work and at a much better price. A lot of the parts are hard to get in Australia (new or used - Audi don’t stock most of the unique parts on these) so get to know some good parts dealers in the US and Europe - in most cases you’ll get new OEM parts at 1/3 of the price that Audi in Australia will quote you (they get them from Germany anyway, so there’s no avoiding a bit of a wait).

      its definitely not going to be cheap if something goes wrong thats the biggest risk with this car of course

      @@RossReviewsau yep sure is a big risk! Replacing a thermostat on a Ford, Holden or Toyota cost fark all. Even in my 2016 Jeep SRT, it only costed $135.
