Wow! I was just looking to see if one could instal radiant-heat into a cabin floor, oneself, and ended up watching the majority of this over an hour long video on building and assembling an entire cabin. I'm exhausted! So much work on something so small! So my takeaway is this. I'd prefer to have extra cash on hand to have someone else, someone that actually knows what they're doing, do it instead. With gratitude, peace. It is beautiful, by the way. ❤
Great video guys ! Those packages for cabins are pretty cool I've seen a few go together looks nice but not really made for cold weather unless you frame & insulate inside, Lots of help & teamwork it came together pretty quick :) 👍
Thanks for watching! Yeah. They are marketed as ‘3 season’ cabins. Our coldest night so far was about -1c. It stayed around dropped to about 11 inside by the morning.

First time watching your channel. Very enjoyable video so I scribed. I do hope you will sit down and tell us what you think about the build and how it holds heat in the winter. Looks great you did a very nice job.

@@Will-bm5cw thanks for watching! It took us a few months of constant searching - but we found that to get something even remotely affordable, we had to travel north and quite far off the ‘beaten path’. We also had a couple of realtors in different areas sending us leads on potential sites, regularly scouring Craigslist, kijiji and road trips for ‘for sale by owner’. It’s a lot of effort but it’s worth it for the quiet. Good luck in your search!
Hey guys, excellent video. A couple of questions: what was the R-value in the roof insulation and how many days did it take you to put it together in total from the platform up
Thanks for watching! The roof has two layers of R5.5 making R10 plus the minimal layer of pine boards. We’ve found that in -1 degrees C, with the tiny cabin heated to 19 degrees C when we went to sleep, in the morning it had dropped to 12 degrees C. So not too bad. I think our ‘insulation weak point’ is the walls now which are 2” thick spruce. Total assembly of the kit was 2 days for foundation platform, 4 days for the kit and another 2 for the insulation and metal roof.
@@K_3_23 great question. Permits are pretty much dependent on the municipality. Our requirements are totally different to the requirements in the next town over. That being said, we specifically picked this model from Bunkie life because it was 159sqft and under any of the permit categories our bylaws had.
I built mine myself. Not a single screw went into the construction except for the floor. I’m glad I didn’t use them because when the wood finally dried out and settled, screws would have been a nightmare.
@@mattandmouse yeah it's a Lemming 😂 I played that game to death. I built my cabin in Scotland on the land behind my house. All the wood arrived wet and the only way to dry it out was to build it. When it dried out the cabin was 7cm shorter.
This little thing is under the permit limit. If you happen to check BunkieLifes website they have most of them under most municipal limits but also have some bigger ones now.
Ah, y'all didn't hand split all the wood, debark it, cut in to boards yourselves ??? Maybe I've seen 1,000s of other YT off-grid cabin builds that have. Any way, thumbs up and good luck ! Would sub but watch too many others in limited time.

Looks great but door hinges on the outside ? And i would like to think it is structulary stronger than it looks . Thanks for sharing at least people will know there are other options when building a cabin . 👍
Ya. Agreed. I think the leveling would have run/shifted too from all the heavy work / hammering and movement after and while building the cabin on top of it.
