Two Years Building an ORIGINAL Off Grid Lumber Log Cabin in the Woods | Start to Finish | The Reveal

- Started in late October/early November 2021. This video is the complete build process from foundation all the way thru to furnishing it.
Cabin was built using LumberLogs made from sandwiched 2x8 dimensional lumber to give it the look and feel of “real logs”. This method allows anyone with basic construction know how, to build a "Log Cabin"
Cabin Dimensions:
Main Cabin 12’W x 16’D
Bedroom 10’W x 8’D
Bathroom 4”W x 8’D
Loft Area above Kitchen 12’W x 6’D
Loft Area above Living Room 6’W x 10’ D
Total Sq Ft: 432
Special thanks to my wife for holding it down at home and allowing me to spend every free weekend these past 2 years building. I hope our kids, our grandkids, and their kids enjoy what God has blessed us with for many years to come.

My wife and I live in an old fishing cabin in the woods, it's not like yours but we've tried make it as rustic as possible, your skills are amazing, we sit and watch your videos with our jaws dropping, thank you for sharing this with all of us, I'm 72 and the wife is 67, we love living in the woods.

Love the engineering and idea, that went into this project. I have seen alot of log home videos, but this one ,was far the best. Wish I had the plans!! For that build out.

Believe me when I say, I’ve seen a LOT of these solo cabin build videos (learning as much as possible so I can build my own someday), and this is by far the best cabin I’ve ever seen built by one man. Amazing what you can accomplish when you have an idea and you keep your feet moving. Must be an incredible feeling to inhabit a place you built with your own two hands. Well done!
I have watched all saved the best for last. The total look around and build was amazing. The last few minutes when you lit the candles was the best. Then put everything away and sat beside your girl and no Eletronic device just you her and a cabin in the woods. Just think half way through you had some doughts but in the end you brought it all together. I'm very Proud of you. I'm just a new sub but you have done what a ton of people would like to do. I built a 3 story barn 60x80 myself. Took several years. We lived in town for over a year until we could move in to a part of it. It's a joy inside when you can step back and see and live your results. I thank the Lord for his protection during the building. I did have help framing but after that, it was me and my wife. We still live here on our acreage. Kudos to you!

Building a wooden house off the grid is really difficult. I admire the way you work alone.
You have calculated and assembled everything very perfectly and firmly.
I am also building a small wooden house off the grid so I understand the difficulty of working alone and everything is done manually without the help of machines.

This video kept coming up as a recommendation and I finally said, "I'll give it 10 minutes and see what happens." I'm 20 minutes in and have decided me and my husband will have to watch this build from the beginning. We both love Shawn James/My Self Reliance and have been with him since near the beginning of his previous cabin build and I know we will enjoy your journey as well.
I love the idea of LumberLogs. It does make building something like this much more accessible to the "average Joe" though hauling around one 2x8 can be challenging much less three of them tied together! We both have experience in building houses so this would actually be something we could do as opposed to what Shawn has done. I'm really looking forward to digging into this series and seeing the details of how you put things together as well as your tasty looking meals. Those shots are some of my favorites in Shawn's videos! 😊
