Off Grid Cabin Gutters - Our First DIY Step To Being Self Sufficient!
In this Thanksgiving episode, we make significant progress on fixing the last remaining parts of the gutters for our tiny cabin.
With winter approaching, it’s essential to ensure that not only our gutter systems ready to handle rainwater efficiently but we need to make sure it keeps the water away from the tiny cabin.
We also add some unique downspouts - with a little red-neck engineering - designed specifically for our upcoming water collection system, which we plan to install early next year.
Plus, there’s a surprise twist when Jody gifts Matt a fixer-upper boat! We’re not quite sure if it floats yet, but it adds an exciting element to our off-grid lifestyle.

@@mattandmouse Well... don't waste your time or money. The so-called 'silent' pump is just as loud as the original. I'm sending it back for a refund. I'm really disappointed.

The chain that came with yours fit on the hooks?!? Lottery Winner!
@@peterellis4262 overall I was pretty pleased with how it worked out. It took a few runs to get used to the ‘process’. My only real complaint is the ratchet on the winch is a little weak. We jammed it three times which slowed us down. Other than that though, pretty solid tool.

there's no cigarette lighter adapter included?
@@Lemuelonline not on this model. I did purchase one from Amazon to run it on our bluetti in the future. For this one I picked up a couple of battery terminal clamps and used a spare 12v car battery. It lasted four nights before needing recharging.
@@mattandmouse Thank you. I will run it to Bluetti too and im glad to watch this video before heading to camp this saturday. My heater will arrive on Friday night. Tight schedule to miss something important as this
@ also be aware of this - if the gauge of the wire on the cigarette lighter is too small/thin, you may get an ‘insufficient power’ error on the heater. I used this one and it works ok for my heater as long as there is no other draw on the same power outlet. (I tried to wire a second thing to the cigarette lighter - heater didn’t like it). a.co/d/9bqMdOa
Late getting to this…….winter is sneaking up on you….good one.
@@codraven57 thanks! (It’s ok - I think you’ve been busy 😀)
@ very much so
I think you need to route the inlet of the heated air inside the cabin also. Otherwise you will pull in exhausted combustion air and blow it into your cabin. Typically the unit is mounted inside so it pulls in and pushes out the heated air from within the cabin, and the combustion intake and exhaust is a separated stream directed outside. To make yours work that way, route the inlet of the heated air to your cabin also.
Thanks for watching! Ive had a few comments about this and yes, I do need to update this. Im working on getting some hose to connect it up to the cabin interior. Thanks for the comment; I appreciate it!
We got a new stainless steel dishwasher when we had our kitchen redone. One day when I was cleaning the front of it, I noticed that there was clear plastic film still on it. PS: This was nine years after the kitchen remodel.
