    OH NO, it was bound to happen after watching this and another assembly video. I bought one thanks to the memories of past! It is arriving Xmas eve. I'm no longer able to fly these. But this brilliant Pitts, so easy to assemble, is destined to hang inverted from my 9' living room ceiling purely as artwork that suits my Boomer bachelor taste in decor perfectly.

    I strongly recommend changing the white clevises between the upper and lower ailerons. They break easily. I replaced mine with the metal ones. The canopy lock has to be pressed all the way forward. 6s 4500 CG is perfect. No bounce landings. Leave the throws alone if you’re flying with any kind of gyro. It handles like a dream. No trim was needed on mine at all. It’s not a beginner plane.

  • @Rick_Retired
    @Rick_Retired 7 месяцев назад +1

    Beautiful flight! Round loop that definitely needed smoke to fully appreciate and nice snap at 4:38. I was a giant scale addict with a Byron Pitts & Eagle, and a custom built Weeks using 4.2 Gasoline engines. Nothing shows off like a low inverted pass or knife edge with them, especially with multi striped wings. I am commenting because that first landing you made after losing your canopy was a perfect "greaser" and I wish you many. many more of those. By the 3rd you even stopped scraping the wing tips that made me cringe lol. That Pitts is a real winner! Keep em flying Nerd....👍

      Haha, thanks for your words of encouragement! I’ll tell ya, I both love and hate (very little hate) flying the variety of planes that I fly! I really only say this because even planes I’ve flown a lot I tend to get rusty at, due to the variety. At times I wish I could fly the same plane for six months and our viewers be okay with that as I make minimal improvements on the flight of that plane, haha! Super unrealistic, but I do think about that more often than most probably realize. I’m like a “jack of all planes, but a master of none” 😅💯👍⚓️

    Thanks for showing us the flight. Just got one and flew it once so far, it was terrific. Surprisingly easy to fly. Landing is not my forte but I didn't crash it. By the way, if you look back at your video when you latched the canopy, you didn't push the latch forward in the locked position. The latch seems sticky and doesn't always do it by itself. That's why your canopy blew off. Maybe we should all remember to make sure it latches every time!

    • @TheRcSaylors
      @TheRcSaylors  7 месяцев назад

      Yeah, I left that part in the video hoping people might catch it like this! Lesson learned! There is always a solid checklist of preflight we should all try and follow. Easy to forget!! Happy Flying my friend 👍💯😎❤️⚓️

    Great flying! Don't beat yourself up too much on landing the Pitts. The full scale is the same way - it's arguably one of the most difficult to land consistently well airplanes out there. Best bet is if you're going to wheel land it (on the mains first), come in a bit quicker (ensuring you're flying the mains onto the runway) and remember to give and hold some slight down elevator the second the mains touch all while dancing on the rudder. This keeps the mains planted to maintain better directional control. The second the tailwheel touches the ground as airspeed decays, convert that down elevator to full up to ensure full mechanical steering with the tailwheel. Keep dancing on the rudder until a full stop. If you find yourself too slow to do a wheel landing, simply hold the plane off the runway and settle it onto all three for a nice three point. Trying to force a wheel landing when too slow generally results in bounces. Getting these consistently good is a fun challenge! Hope your full-scale training is going great!

    The e-cigarette things normally run off of a lipo anyway. Normally they're just one s mods or two s sometimes three. But would really work out really well for you. Would be to use a smoke generator for a model train. It basically uses the same methodology as an e-cig, but it's designed for the duty cycle you're thinking of as most e-cigarettes are only meant to be run for 10 seconds at a time.

      Exponential is a digital function that softens the control response around the middle of the stick. You can still get full deflection with strong stick movements, but accidentally flicking the stick a bit won’t send your plane into a flat spin. I use 30% for very smooth passes.

    I swapped the factory provided ESC for a 60A Avian, to get full telemetry. That required 4.0 female to 3.5 male bullet adapters, and an IC3/IC5 pigtail adapter from Spektrum (for the data wire). Also replaced the plastic gear analog servos with metal gear digital (FMS branded). Presently cutting all of the foam pinch hinges loose and going back with pinned hinges. Swapped the prop for a XOAR 16x8. I think it’s going to fly the way I like it when done… lol.

    Sport flying aerobatic planes get 20-30% expo and 3d planes with 45-50° throws get 30-75% depending on their attitude. I don’t use rates but that’s just my comfort level after flying a year or two. (Maybe 30. Or 35…) As I’ve beat on you a few times don’t fear the expo! It doesn’t bite! If your plane feels a bit mushy use less. If you have to keep correcting your last correction, add more. 5% at a time will make small changes so tinker.

      A good quality Pitts like this FMS can be flown like a trainer, but they're built / known for intense aerobatics. So they seem deceptively easy to fly at first, but can quickly become a handful, especially for an inexperienced pilot. Biplanes can also be tricky to land, but I dont think this one has that reputation. Then again YOLO and if you were gonna try a aerobatic biplane, this would be the one! (lots of sim practice always helps!)

    Can't figure how you're flying so close to the full size jets we hear in some of your videos, don't hear anything about I D. I know what we are going thru .

    When you mention God I don't think you have thought about it. You are saying that you believe in the power of a human sacrifice. It's dressed up to not sound so bad but that's exactly what it is, an actual Human sacrifice to a God, so that the future is better.
