  • The bells a Staunton Harold church are listed as unringable. This archive audio recording of the bells is to stand as a record of what the bells sounded like.
Staunton Harold is a village in North West Leicestershire about 3 miles north of Ashby-de-la-Zouch. The parish is on the county boundary with Derbyshire and is about 9 miles south of Derby. The church is in the care of the National Trust. Built between 1662-65 in Gothic style this was the private chapel of the Shirley’s who lived in the nearby Hall for generations. More information about the church can be found here: www.leicesters...
There are 8 bells, the tenor weighing 17-2-1 cwt. The bells sound unusual as they are not tuned to a major scale. In 1831 four new bells were added to the existing four, and rather than making all four new bells lighter than the existing set, they cast two new trebles and two new tenors. This means that the intervals between some of the bells are incorrect for their new position in the ring of eight. More information about the bells can be found here: dove.cccbr.org...

Crikey I’d love to ring here, but gather there’s a lot of ‘red tape’ to get through to get these ringable. Such a shame as it’s a beautiful location, church and ring!
