    Excellent video. My favorite thing about his warmup is how unselfconsious it is. He's striving for an optimum sound and feel instead of technical perfection at this stage, and that means the occasional clam or out of tune note. And he's totally fine with that. He registers whatever happens and slowly corrects and fine tunes it but doesn't worry about it. It's all part of reconnecting his musical brain and body to the instrument each day. And l think it is refreshing for a world-class player like him to be willing to put this out there and show us all his process.

      After almost a 35 yr career, first as a full time trombonist (10) and then as a "weekendwarrior" has to stop playing due to all the bad habits collided in a "perfect storm" leaving me with 4 instruments which I can barely hold (incorrect position, bad shoulder), bad breathing habits, etc. Almost like 3 years that I cant play, after seeing this video, seems to find I just found what I has been looking! Lets wait, patiently repeat the exercises, will tell you in a while!

    For tone play two joined whole notes, beginning and ending pianissimo but fortissimo in the middle. Skip the mouthpiece buzzing. Keep it your pocket to warm it. Thank you for not squeaking .

    Even your mouthpiece-only tone is super full and warm, any tips there? What mouthpiece is that? Thanks!

    • @SuperJox
      @SuperJox Год назад

      Probably more air through the mouthpiece. Try just blowing directly through the mouthpiece then transition to a buzz and keep the air going

      I try not to focus too much on a big sound, just trying to resonate as much as possible - same as when singing. I currently play on a willie's custom brass mouthpiece from Japan.

    Seems like you probably have a nice slow resting heart rate because it looks like your breathing warm-up was 50bpm, no biggie but I had a hunch when that started, (assuming all the digital playback is accurate that is, 😌

    Ya know, real trombonists use the horns that are available and make them great. Signature models are a crutch
