Having left Scotland as a young boy, I haven't been to many Celtic-Rangers games, but I was at this one. Enjoyed the result of course, and didn't need to be told not to head down to the pitch after the final whistle. Looked like a dangerous place to be. Seven days later I was standing at the same end of the ground for the Scotland-England game. When they played the National Anthem, everybody in the ground was booing loudly. I turned to my Dad and said "Half the people here today were singing this last week". The peepul right enough.
My father and uncle were at a scotland game in the early 60s at the celtic end off hampden scotland team were full off rangers players in the early 60s cos they were winning everything back then the was a hun singing orange songs with scotland tartan on a big highlander pulled him and said shut it were watching scotland here not rangers gtf up to the rangers end my father never watched scotland again on a happier note he was at the 7 1 game
@Tweet Celtic I'm glad I just found your channel. I've subscribed! Your scripts, presentation, and narration style are truly first class. One of the great pleasures is that I can pause on the images of contemporary newspaper articles and read every word of what the sports journalists of the day actually reported. The standard of reporting was so much better then than it is today, especially the objectivity of writers such as Ian Paul of the Glasgow Herald. It really takes me back! It's also very relevant to make mention of the fact that this particular match was one of the most thrilling finals of the era. I couldn't go to that game because I was "supposedly" working but in the event things worked out whereby I was able to watch the live TV transmission of the match in the janitor's office in the company of three other guys, two of whom were Rangers supporters. Nevertheless we all thoroughly enjoyed the game in good spirits and with a sense of decent sportsmanship. When the final whistle blew, we all shook hands and agreed that it had been a classic cup final. Both teams really went for it and it was always in the balance, even after the opening (and ultimately) decisive, goal. Then all the stupidity broke loose to mar the occasion. I still think that it was the most exciting Celtic v Rangers game I've seen because the score could easily have been 5-5 or thereabouts! Once again, congratulations on creating a tremendous channel. I'll be back!
It’s a day I will never forget… Rangers fans just couldn’t take it they started the trouble it was the same in the 1969 final when they tried to invade the pitch !
I was at the 69 final 133 000 there ferguson got the boot out off rangers after the game blamed him for mcneils goal but perssson and John greigs mistakes for the 2nd and 3nd goals were worse than ferguson They got shot off him cos he had a catholic wife I remember the huns fighting one another at ht and when 4th goal went in from stevie bhoy some right trouble outside as well the huns were waiting outside a hail off bottles and bricks came our way outside the North stand then they were charging one another I was only 13 great day took me and my ages to get to other side off Glasgow but a great day

I was there, 13 years old, the game wasn't a great watch but what happened after was just another dark day in scottish football history.
