Mad respect to Thomas .. he obviously was sick as hell. Still managed to put a lot of energy in his performance. No playback, no excuses ... just performing no matter what. A lot of bands would probably cancel the show or perform playback vocals or something. A lot of hate for his voice in the comments - should be the other way round. The crowd was obviously having a great time with Gloryhammer - this is what Metal is all about.
Angus McFife XIII refused to give into Zargothrax' evil spell and cancel the show this time, and that's why the next time he tries he used something that no mighty hero can ignore, the weather.
He should try adapting his vocal style, it's awesome but you can see how he begins to struggle after the half of the show, that or do shorter shows :/.
According to Chris Bowes it was just a real bad show all around and Thomas had some issues with his IEM and had to use wedges, apparently couldn't hear himself or anything else really. Everyone has a bad day I guess.
It's actually painful to watch as it goes on. He knows his voice is dead and he's doing his best. He wanted this to be the best he could make it, but the universe wanted revenge for getting set on fire. He really is an amazing singer.
Most "singers" in the modern music scene can't carry those tunes even fully warmed- up and healthy... Most of those songs are quite demanding... it doesn't even matter when- and if- his voice breaks here and there...What makes me even more of a fan is that he WON'T GIVE UP- no matter what- and SMILES ALL THE WAY during the set.... it's like a statement "I'm sick, well.. fuck it, let's give' em all fuckin' hell".... Love the band and now on I've got even more respect for Thomas- KILLER job man! Just KILLER... Both thumbs up! fuck the haters!
I could not agree more. I have a band that employs the same fantasy type story and once we announced our characters and our stories, everyone made fun of us, making us clowns and stuff like öh you are a D&D/Classic WoW"band and we showed them what for by raising 150 likes in under 36 hours.
I saw this performance. Never heard of them before. Was immediately captivated. Perfect show. 10/10. Became a rabid fan afterwards. First time I've watched this since then, I had no idea Thomas was struggling due to illness. I'm gobsmacked. I would have sworn under oath he was note perfect, it was so good. Just goes to show you - you can nail a show if the band goes in like a bunch of pros still having some fun.
I bitch and complain about playing violin when I have a cold (holding it against my neck pushes on my swollen lymph nodes). But here he is **singing** anyway at Wacken of all places. Mad respect. 🤘🏻
The way Thomas is fighting despite his ruined voice on that day is so much more impressive than any of these cheesy perfect world live acts the big record companies are trying to sell us. THIS IS METAL!
Much respect to Angus for the performance he put on, it was very obvious he wasn't feeling well and it was showing towards the end. I'm glad he didn't do any real harm to his vocal chords straining like that to keep singing.
I fucking love what bands like Gloryhammer and Twilight Force are doing for the Power metal genre. I love how they enjoy performing live and make fun music. We definitely need more of this.
You know what they are doing? They just take 1 aspect of the genre and push it to the edge. Nothing against Gloryhammer but you cant rly compare them with Rhapsody, Stratovarius or Avantasia whey they were in their best times cause they create it all and every single band has very unique way how they made power metal so rich but bands like GH or TF only fulfil the formula writen by others (musicaly and lyricaly even more) and tryin to make it sound epic and modern. If I should name 1 band who push borders for power metal so its Beast in black.
I first thought wtf what's wrong with his voice?! I was there and saw them last week again and it was great! But if you hear him before and while Universe on Fire... You can hear that he was definitely sick at this concert. :( 34:50 :( Normally his voice rocks!
I watched this only now. Seems like Thomas is really sick there, losing his voice towards the end, but still performing the whole set that was probably intended to. Wow. I love this band.
Does he sound as good as when he isn't sick? Nope. But even if I sing my absolute best I still sound like a cat drowning in porridge. Mass kudos to him for going out and giving the fans a great show.
Yes same,... 100% Sick,... i hear him 2 weeks ago,... and,... no coment that show was total AMAZING,... Here at Wacken is biggiest "sickest" warrior ! Rescpect ! :D :) Cant wait to next show,...
Wish I could have been there. Looks like so much fun. This band has quickly became my favorite band since I discovered them a few months ago. When COVID-19 starts to die down, I hope for them to come to the U.S.
one of the best live bands of all time. allthough thomas seemed to be sick and losing his voice it was still a fucking great performance. looking forward to Cannstatt 2018 \m/
This is a motivational video for me, no bullshit. Go and perform, whatever happens. Thank You, Thomas. Btw. at last I had the chance to see then live a few days ago, they were great. 🙂
Saw these legeneds at a really small show in australia. Was to this day one of the best concerts i have seen. Putting it up[ there with maiden, sabbath/dio etc.
No else is gonna say it huh... that dude they have filling in for Chris Bowes isn't actually playing a darn thing on that keyboard and it's fairly obvious
Awesome, just stumbled across these guys. Looks like a fun show. Everyone talking crap or apologizing for the vocals in the comments, sounds good to me. Singer is really animated.
I followed blind guardian around the uk last year, deeply fell in love with these guys. It's nice to have a full hd show on RUclips, but dang I'm sad about his voice not being on point. :( they need to release a live album tbh.
Imagine a tour with Gloryhammer, Alestorm, Bal-Sagoth, Turisas, Dethklok and Austrian Death Machine with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Johnny Depp as guest stars, the very structure of reality won't be capable to endure such singularity of awesomesauce, multiple dimensions and convergent timelines will be needed as backup.
people tend to forget how hard singing can be on the voice , I did a show once where I was a lead singer and the fog liquid from the stage dried out my vocal chords not to mention in addition to my awfully bad stage freight I could barly let my voice make a whisper , the nerves didnt help much as I was straning to sing ...I know this isnt the case here as I am sure Thomas is confident on stage but the fog juice doesnt help matters at all especially if I singer is having vocal issues as well
This show was amazing. I'm not sure if drinking cheap whisky from a foldable water bottle for the half hour beforehand was a great idea or a terrible idea. Can't wait to see them again!

Well, Gloryhammer has been one of the best "newcomers" for me, since their first album. I love their irony towards all the cliches of "Power Metal". I have also enjoyed watching and reading some people, who just don't get it xD On the other hand, I love their iron-like professionalism and excellent composing skills etc... Watching their live performances on RUclips, one can see that Thomas ALWAYS puts 100% to his performance. Which is both, a fantastic thing and also in a way kinda frightening... Maybe I'm the only one, but I think I can already hear the difference in his performance on the second album... It's maybe a small difference, but still. I just hope he isn't straining his voice too much. And ripping your voice, when everything isn't ok (like here everyone can see and hear, that he (or his voice) is down because of illness or for some other reason) is one thing I wouldn't want him to do... I want to enjoy his wonderful voice for as long as possible.... Anyway, that's what came to my mind, when I heard/saw this recording. Anyway, one of my all time favorite bands! Hope they wonder to Finland soon ;)
I'm with you on this. Hopefully he recovers fully & takes the steps needed to prevent further/future damage. When he is singing in his glorious self, his voice is similar to my most favorite artist in the world, who just also happens to offer vocal (including protection) lessons to the locals where he lives at in Brazil. I mention this here, only because I truly feel they would totally "get" each other due to similarities of sound.
Mad respect to Thomas .. he obviously was sick as hell. Still managed to put a lot of energy in his performance. No playback, no excuses ... just performing no matter what. I'm so glad you're the top comment
I was live at that show, i was amazing, everyone heard that he had problems but were still amazed.
you are gay like gloryhammer. This is not metal.

What happens, when Thomas is sick?
They turn into a melodic sci-fi-death metal band.
Respect!
Hell yeah, that's what i thought \m/
And he starts to growl:)
The *BIG* respect for Thomas.. The best!
Tu Cię mam 😅
BIGGEST! \m/
101 like :D
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🤳
Poor Thomas, he clearly went sick on stage, didn't notice it live tho, incredible show!
Yup, did not notice at all. The vibe was too powerful!
Bagdadbrot007 obviously you could tell when he talks but even then he did his best
He should try adapting his vocal style, it's awesome but you can see how he begins to struggle after the half of the show, that or do shorter shows :/.
Adrian I would like to hear you sing for an hour while having a fever though.
According to Chris Bowes it was just a real bad show all around and Thomas had some issues with his IEM and had to use wedges, apparently couldn't hear himself or anything else really.
Everyone has a bad day I guess.

Ha, nice Theory ;)
Nah, Zargothrax used his dastardly magic
Ngl, kinda like this raspy version. Nay, not as good as “non-sick” Thomas, but still
He still sounds sick
There's something to be appreciated about a dude singing with his voice busted, but pushing through until the end.
Giving everything by the end, even though he has nothing left to give. This is a metal performance for the ages. Bravo Thomas.

Thomas was sick!? He gave that performance sick!!? Damn...
Wow... Just wow. This singer must have balls of steel to power through, despite being sick like that. Respect!
So now we know...
when Thomas is sick, he sounds like an angry grandma
I'm dying 😂
The singer is hilarious. We need more of that in Metal as far as I can tell.
I could not agree more. I have a band that employs the same fantasy type story and once we announced our characters and our stories, everyone made fun of us, making us clowns and stuff like öh you are a D&D/Classic WoW"band and we showed them what for by raising 150 likes in under 36 hours.
