Adrian's certainly a modest man of few words and very likeable. A mate of mine once worked in a guitar shop and popped into the papershop on the high street, only to find Smithy in there browsing the newspapers with his kid in a stroller. He invited him back to the shop for a cup of tea and a fiddle on the guitars. Said he was a very nice bloke. Adrian is without doubt my favourite all time guitarist. Those solos on Wicker Man, Children of the Damned, Dance of Death and countless others just kick ass. His phrasing, tone and feel are just perfect.
Fuck ye, hes my all time favorite too. My favorites are the duellists, dance of death, alexander the grrat, 22 acacia and caught somrwhere in time.from him. Hes kinda mystrrious though!! How can i knoe more about him??
Maiden is one of those "perfect" bands like AC/DC. No matter how many years pass their music is still as powerful and interesting as it was when it came out. Really a timeless band.
Stranger in a strange land to me is Adrians best solo, that silky slow start builds like a pressure cooker and then pow, right in the kisser. A hot contender for one of the best solos ever.
Dave Murray & Adrian Smith is the ultimate twin guitar duo. They play off each other's solos, and even though they have such different styles, they make it work so well together. Epic stuff
I was lucky enough to meet Iron Maidens drummer Nico , he was Phil Hilbornes special guest drummer one evening years ago , I was at the Bar at the venue when he came out from behind the stage and walked over towards me , he said hello to me first , I nearly fell over , what a great guy , he bought me a pint , and we stood and talked as if we were old friends catching up. I still can't quite believe it happened , best night ever. Cheers Nico.
That Jackson is based off of a Jackson guitar that Grover Jackson made for him in 85-86. The neck (contour) is a replica of a 54 or 55 strat apparently. The original one had a neck humbucker (Dimarzio PAF) so it was a HSH config, but Adrian put a new pickguard on it, so it now looks identical to the production models (minus the wear & his signature on the headstock of course). You can see him play the original one in clips from the Somewhere on tour (86-87) & 7th Tour (1988) here on youtube. Just search for "Maiden England", and it's his main stage guitar.
@@timp.9582I dig it enough but honestly I prefer the white on white version. Now IIRC Adrian also had a duplicate model which had the synth pickup/controls which was introduced on the Somewhere in Time tour in '86 or '87.
Adrian Smith. The reason I first picked up a guitar. Not a flashy player, but boy his phrasing and sense of groove are epic. Easily my favourite guitar player. 👍😀
Looking forward to reading his autobiography. He seems a very reserved bloke. Hope he tells interesting stories about behind the scenes and song writing. And that Jackson is gorgeous.
Amazing find Lee. Adrian is one of my teenage guitar idols and such a reclusivee guy in terms of interviews. See if you can drag him along with Dave Murray for one of your long interviews. Cheers.
Love Maiden! All of their stuff is good but my core Maiden rotation is pretty much Killers, Number, Piece and Powerslave with Live After Death on occasion. It's easily the best stuff.
Love this interwiew! How good when an interwiewer asking the good questions! Thank you! Next time please ask him about his Ibanez Destroyers from the early 80's! Oh and Lado as well! UP THE IRONS!
Agreed 100%! I assumed that Adrian did it out of the kindness of his heart. However ,that is a rather monumental song to be stepping aside from. Their brotherhood is admirable even if Janik was the adopted child of the modern Iron Maiden lineup. Janik is certainly up there with Bruce in regards to energy on stage!
You know what; I got the Chapman CAP10 because of Dave and Janick their Stratocasters and Adrian's San Dimas, believe it or not. - I started out with guitar-music/playing looking at these guys and the S-type was basically "thé guitar" to me. Though, I never really got one that was quite LIKE a Stratocaster for probably more than 18 years of playing, until I set my eyes on the CAP10, and now it's like my "Maiden" guitar. - I'm gonna sound like a commercial here, but it plays so well and sounds so good. It really got me closer to playing that kind of style that other guitars didn't "allow" me to. - But I will be honest that I was definitely also looking at the San Dimas as an option. And while in fact the cheaper model could've been had for less than a CAP10, it was just lacking some features I wanted, so... That's how that happened for me. :)
Killers, Ides Of March, first solo. Perfect for me then because I was a fan of Michael Schenker. The rest is history,,,,Scorps and IM , IM and Saxon. Great memories.
I wish my '11 would have had the barrel truss rod adjustment, the first 6 months I had to adjust it at least 10 times (yes USA) ... but once it settled down, it's been pretty solid. I cant help but to wonder about this guys knowledge of Floyd Rose trems ... maybe he's only seen ones that are recessed ... IDK ... Love Adrian's playing!!!
The interview was quite short as Lee focused on guitars and Iron Maiden. If he’d asked Adrian about fishing, the interview would have been 3 hours long! Lol
I have never seen them live! I had an opportunity, but I wasted it because I wasn’t a big fan at the moment. Now they’re my favorite band and I just wanna see them live🥲
@@jbeebs1 Nave you seen the Iron Maiden documentary of the Airplane conversion and touring plane ? Here on youtube, interesting all the work that went into that.
Always bonded with Adrian’s solos on Maiden songs. Perhaps because I am a devout blues guitarist as well. Not taking anything away from Dave Murray at all. He’s also amazing but more outside of my comfort zone. This guitar is reminiscent of Jake E. Lee’s guitar, is it not?!
This guy is so laid back and down to earth and still one of the greatest heavy metal guitarists ever....

I like how he starts his Iron Maiden career with a killer solo on Ides of March. That intro solo is epic.
Him and Dave Murray were my high school guitar heroes. Them along with Glenn/KK were just so influential to the metal scene.
Adrian Smith easily the best guitarist! His solos are amazing.
In maiden ypu mean obvious
Agreed, sir, 100%.
Adrian has been a favorite of mine for over 20 years. Amazing guitar player.
Maiden is one of those "perfect" bands like AC/DC. No matter how many years pass their music is still as powerful and interesting as it was when it came out. Really a timeless band.
also like motorhead!
@Fire and Ice Did you get your Mother's permission to be on the Internet?
Really? I think they’re kind of boring.
@@Kevin.Kelly. Did you just call Iron Maiden boring?
there are LOTS of bands WAY better than maiden and ac/dc in hard rock and heavy metal like whitesnake...ufo..van halen...sammy hagar....
Love Adrian's solos in Maiden. Always so tasteful and fitting for the song.
Always thought the same, especially on Aces High and Flight of Icarus
his solos projects are also amazing check that
Stranger in a strange land to me is Adrians best solo, that silky slow start builds like a pressure cooker and then pow, right in the kisser.
A hot contender for one of the best solos ever.
Amazing solo.
Agreed! 100%
I agree!!!
Love Loneliness too!
That's a good one, I think for me is Wasted Years.
Him and Dave have amazed me for many many years. I could never repay them with what I've gotten out of their music.
Dave Murray & Adrian Smith is the ultimate twin guitar duo. They play off each other's solos, and even though they have such different styles, they make it work so well together. Epic stuff
One of my biggest inspirations. Would love to watch a full one hour "meets" kind of thing.
Captain meets Steve Harris one day it might happen
I just wanna get Adrian, Dave, and Janick in a room together and watch them shred and talk gear. My favorite guitarists all three of them!

And before that Jackson. He somehow toured with a super contemporary shaped guitar with emg pickups.
Quite a change

That white/black Jackson is the defining symbol of the super strat genre

He's actually a really good blues player.
This gets a like just seeing the title! I hope you do a proper "Captain Meets..." with Adrian in Guildford.
Adrian Smith. The reason I first picked up a guitar. Not a flashy player, but boy his phrasing and sense of groove are epic. Easily my favourite guitar player. 👍😀
Adrian Smith...My all time favorite song writer/guitarist! Met him a few times in Quebec....really laid back cool guy!!!
Maiden is my all time favorite band. I just can't get enough.
he’s a lovely bloke
I swear I watched this video already a couple days ago!
Was thinking the same. Except with worse sound quality now!
Same here.
Same, weird
Me too. I think they had deleted the other one.
Aquatic Mullet now say that in English
Top man. I've seen him a number of times over the years... Can't beat a bit of Maiden.
There has to be a full episode of the captain meets adrian smith. We NEED that. Please make it happen!
Please get Adrian on your show! He is my favourite player.
ive had an adx for 5 years. It has the best tuning stability ive encountered
My favorite guitarist ever. So down to Earth. Absolute legend.
Finally they changed to a truss adjusting wheel, now I can finally buy it because I love those necks.
Adrian is a man of few words.

I think he mostly does and writes about fishing when he's not playing Guitar with Maiden.
One of my favourite players. Thanks so much for this interview. 😎👍🎸
I am so jealous, Lee; I have been a Maiden fan for nearly 40-years and would be thrilled to meet and talk to Adrian Smith... I think he's amazing.

A legend!
i played in this jackson one time ,most comfortable guitar i ever played, feels very soft in the fingers
Why isn’t this 1 hour😩 Captain meets?🤩🙏🏼
One of the most badass guitarists of my generation. And beyond. Undeniable 🤘🏻
Love Maiden! All of their stuff is good but my core Maiden rotation is pretty much Killers, Number, Piece and Powerslave with Live After Death on occasion. It's easily the best stuff.
No, it's just what you like, son
A matter of life and death and brave new world are fantastic.
Have you listened to Rock In Rio? Blows live after death out of the water
Holy shit holy shit holy shit Adrian is my childhood guitar hero. I’d love to meet him one day. So jealous!
What a wonderful player! We'll be happy to welcome you in Tel-Aviv this summer!
3:32 "or radio play" and he shows the finger...😁
Glad, the video is back. I already missed it.

As far as I know, his red Ibanez lays wastedn Steve's house. It was damaged in a flow. Wish he would restore it and bring her to life.
Adrian needs to take his Hallowed Be Thy Name solo back from Janick!!

Good chat - looking forward to seeing them down under (in New Zealand) soon!
Just got to say it, Adrian Smith is my number one fav guitarist.
Awesome Find!!! We need an hour with Sir Adrian!
He is my Gitar Hero! UP THE IRONS!!! Siberia, Russia!
Caught the mighty Maiden in Buffalo last year, first time in ages. They still put on a great show!
Reminder last year at NAMM when Chapman went up and butted in to Adrian as he was peacefully minding his business to get him on camera
Would have loved to see the Duo. Murray&Smith.
I was at NAMM too and I briefly met Lee but I wished I had met Adrian because I share a birthday with him.
This is the episode I've been awaiting since my subscription years ago :p
Love AS. Very humble and awesome player as well!
How the hell have I missed this video for a year😮
Gonna see Adrian playing his Jackson in June!
Such a great muscian legend!!

Cool interview Captain!
Love me some Adrian!
Thats cool. Other than Bruce, you dont see interviews with Maiden's members that much. A bit of Harris lately due to his British Lion release.
Damn, Captain, nicely done!
Adrian is the man. Great guitarist, cool as ice too.
At times there... It seemed like Adrian was floating away into the Seventh son for a seventh son album artwork
i have adrians signature guitar great axes ..tone out them is sweet.

I wish you could get Dave Murray on here. He doesn't seem to really like interviews though.
