Respectfully putting this on the radar: a company called Oncorix is running an observational study in California for their product, a functional mushroom and cannabis capsule, as an integrative approach to breast cancer. It passed trials in Israel, showed to minimize the symptoms of chemo and accelerate tumor shrinkage in specific types of breast cancer. It might be worth checking out if you, or anyone reading this, are being treated in California. Sign up is on their website.
You got this, Jill, you're so brave. 💚

Jill, I’m 49 years old. Was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. Had a bilateral mastectomy in March. The breast cancer I was diagnosed with was estrogen progesterone positive. My genetic testing came back negative as far as risks although my paternal aunt had breast cancer and a 2nd maternal cousin. It is better on the other side of this. Know that God has you and the love from your family and friends will help you get through this.

Did you have both mammogram and ultrasound with testing? How often are American’s tested? We are tested here in Australia every two years but I’m opting now for ultrasound also. Had both mother and grandmother died from breast cancer.

@@australiamyway I have had an annual mammogram since age 40. It came back abnormal last year. I had a diagnostic mammogram, ultrasound then a biopsy in February 2023. The biopsy confirmed diagnosis of invasive ductal carcinoma in my right breast. The genetic testing came after this initial work up.

Jill, I’ll be praying for you as you travel this new medical journey! I did this exact same surgery along with hysterectomy in 2018, due to positive BRCA gene. No cancer, simply preventative. Interesting fact: my mother has the BRCA gene, both her twin sister and her mother passed from cancer! My twin sister tested negative, but my daughter tested positive as well. You can do this!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

BRCA positive as well. My breast cancer was caught at 32. My mom & aunt died from it. At the time of mine, I didn't know I was positive. After my sister died of ovarian (she was positive too) I finally got tested. All four women (sisters) have had breast cancer although only two tested positive. I had a mastectomy at 32 and a hysterectomy at 53. I'm 55 now and do not have to worry anymore. To all of us who have been through or are going through it now; stay strong pink sisters!

I am stage 4 breast cancer, and my oncologist had me do genetic testing. I carry the BRCA2 gene mutation, which I too inherited from my dad. Sadly we didn’t know in time to save my life, but because I did get tested so have my children. Both of my daughters inherited the mutation from me, and both are doing the preventative surgeries. So honestly I thank God everyday that I did get breast cancer, gels so strange to say that, but had I not, my girls would not have known. We all say we would gladly give our lives for our children. Well, I am gladly giving my life for my children. By the way genetic testing is not super expensive, and both my oncologist and the genetics company that did my testing say everyone should have genetic testing. Mine was 84 panel, so tested for everything. Just think of how many lives could be saved if everyone was given the same chance my girls now have.

I had a benign breast cyst with a radial scar that was found in surgery when removing the cyst, my Surgeon said that if radial scars are not removed it can turn cancerous down the road. I now have to have an MRI every 6 months for the next 2 years. Unfortunately when trying to get BRACA/ Genetic testing my insurance said there is a whole sheet of criteria that MUST be met, and if not met insurance will NOT cover the testing. Also my family history showed my aunt on my mom's side has had breast cancer x 3!!! Unacceptable! I also want to ad in my situation my mammogram showed normal, when i had a US for dense tissue a hard nodule was found, so now i really advocate for doing both, mammogram and US as the mammogram did NOT pick up the nodule! My report stated normal, nothing found which was also scary.

My mom was diagnosed in 2017 with stage 3b. She passed this year. My sister and I were tested. I don't carry the genes neither do our parents. My sister does carry both of the genes and opted for elective surgeries for everything. Her scans were clear at each step. On the day of her mastectomy, they found two different types of aggressive cancer in both breasts! They were able to remove it all and she's been on a chemo pill for the past four years. Get checked out! I go in every six months because of our history.

I survived stage 3 melanoma. Breast cancer does not run in my family , but I have my mammograms regularly. Had mine done last August, got a call back, biopsies on both breasts, IDC on right, DCIS on left....had my DMX in December, turned out I had cancer in both breasts. I do not carry the BRCA gene, not sure where this even came from . I finished my chemo in April and finished my 20th round of rads today, have 10 more to go. I try to stay positive, but there are times I want to just cry and scream. I am grateful that mine was caught early, but , my Oncotype DX came back high, so I worry.

How can we help women that cannot afford the testing?
Few insurance companies provide coverage for genetic testing, even if your lucky enough to have insurance.
Americans die each year because they cannot afford medical costs without insurance, or even with insurance. And many employers are not pleased with requests for time off for even a doc. appointment. Most “right to work” states make using health benefits as a risky endeavor because you may loose your job when you have even a few doc. appointments.
Also, even with Family Medical Leave (FML)few works are offered their exact job back upon recovery. Kudos to the show for supporting you!
I sincerely send prayers of healing, health and happiness for you. Thanks for sharing your story.

Get genetic testing if you can. I found out I have the chek2 mutation as does my younger sister. They did not have a lot of info about it until these past few years. I have a very strong family history of breast cancer so I have been followed closely for many years and have had mammograms every year since my 20's and I'm now 62. Last May, I felt a lump in my right breast and called the cancer center where I have gone for visits. I had a mammogram and went directly for an ultrasound and the Dr said it looked suspicious. Biopsy confirmed DCIS and also Invasive Ductal Carcinoma both right next to each other. I had a lumpectomy in September and had to have another surgery 2 weeks later because the margins weren't clean. I had Onocotype testing on my tumor and it came back that chemo would not benefit me much. I had 19 radiation treatments and finished in December 2022. I think I slept the entire month of December and part of January, I began taking Arimidex as my cancer was Estrogen +/ Her2 negative. I had joint pain and hair loss for a few months but things have leveled off. Jill, you will survive this and come out stronger. I have such a different attitude about life these days. I say "Yes" a lot more than I used to. I don't want to miss anything and have regrets. I think I always suspected I would get breast cancer but it was still shocking. My 6 month mammogram was good. Thanks God!
