as soon as you said "we need to remove the water pump" I was like nah I dont need it lol
Lmao
Not hard bro
Exactly!!!! I was all in for an easy install. 😁
lmao
But once you get passed the taping of the Allen screw 🤣 you’re all good brother
Tips to make this easier.
1st: plan a weekend just in case.
2nd: remove the coolant and water pump, it makes it so much easier.
3rd: use an electric ratchet after you break all 3 loose with a normal ratchet, you can use a drill with a 90° attachment, I tried both.
4th: invest in a head lamp.
5th: after you get this or gfb installed and before you refill your coolant, now is a good time to replace the leaking oil thermostat housing gaskets. Just remember to have lots of rags placed just below both the oil cooler lines and and right above your alternator even if your drained your oil. Have fun and take breaks if you get frustrated.
I took the intercooler out and the turbo inlet pipe and then removed the diverter valve. Whole install took a hour.
@@lloyd.8272 pretty easy especially on a rwd f30
Props for using soothing music for a tricky/stressful install. Well done.
"Scale of 1-10... This is about a 38".🤣🤣🤣🤣 = Diverter valve top right bolt.
Bryan, you make it very hard to ignore your channel, happy 2020 buddy ! Cheers. Excellent presentation as usual !
Thanks! We're just getting warmed up :)
Crazy been watching your channel for a couple days trying to learn as much as I can. I just picked up at 2013 BMW 328Xi then noticed you’re in jersey as well will definitely meet up when you have your next event.
NJMOPAR what part of NJ? I’m in New Brunswick, I have a 2016 320i
Great job on the video, Bryan! Amazing as usual!
When you installed the Turbosmart N55 Plumb Back (quieter) version on my car, I couldn’t figure out how you were going to video record your Dual Port model installation. It’s tight and difficult to see.
You guys did a great job with the multiple cameras and editing. Plus starting the video out with showing the parts configuration on the bench really helped to visualize it. I probably have a better idea now after watching the video than when I was watching you install it live!
It’s been over a month and the Turbosmart has been great! I really notice the lack of turbo lag and the power being much more available all the time than with the stock Diverter Valve. It’s obvious to me that the stock DV unnecessarily dumps too much boost and Turbosmart intelligently bleeds off just the excess boost. So the power is always available.
My Plumb Back model has a subtle whippoorwill sound when I suddenly let up off the gas a bit. Pretty cool. Thanks again!
Thanks, John! It’s been a great upgrade, even over the GFB. I was nervous about the venting to atmosphere, but it’s been great 👍🏼 good find on these!
Kies Motorsports I’m anxious to hear your Turbosmart Dual Port model in person at some point. Experimenting with the mic location was neat.
Hey Brian, big fan here. Been watching your videos for some time now and until recently I really thought you were some guy from some big tuning part mailorder business. Your videos are great and I think what makes you special is that your explanations are very clear and on point and you seem to be an overall good guy!
Now while watching this specific video, I couldn't help but wonder if it wouldn't be much easier to get there from above? You'd have to remove the intake and boost pipe, maybe move the coolant reservoir but then you'd have to have all kinds of room to operate, or am I missing something here? Would appreciate to hear your thoughts on this!
Like the way this sounds! I still prefer the Tial BOV for the N54 in terms of sounds but this sounds great too!
I just did this yesterday on my RWD and it took me 6 hours from start to finish! That top bolt is definitely the biggest pain and took up most of the time re-installing due to the bulb shaped design of the Turbosmart DV. Removing it wasn't so bad from the stock DV due to its smaller shape and size. It is a job that I definitely do not want to be doing again! This video provided many wise and calming words when trying to fit that last bolt back in! :D Thank you!
My car sounds like this already and it has the stock diverter? Is that normal I think most of the sound is coming from the air intake tho...
If you have the sound like this with the stock part, please check your lower part of intake pipe. It's probably not stick to the Turbo properly. I had that issue before :D
Thanks for all these amazing videos, huge help! Wish u continued success brother 💪
Great video and detail how to get the job done
Ima be honest after installing every bolt-on, on my F30 335i it already sounds like it has a BOV.
typejlb same dude I kinda like the stock diverter valve at high boost
Sequester Bartholomew Rosenthal I agree it’s actually pretty loud and it sounds really nice!
I’m in the same boat and agree. I’d like to get more performance benefits vs the go fast bits upgrade to decide if it’s worth the effort at this point.
Great tutorial for installing either part though. I struggled with the GFB install on the N55.
Guy 5 here. Same same. It’s one of the things that people always remember about riding in my 335. Might have a lot to do with the type of intake we all have. I started to hear it loud after installing the basic BMS naked filter intake.
Same here mppk tune 335i gt with only K&N air filter diverter valve is very loud and sounds so bad-azz (people turn around to se the car) my friend had a 435i gc but didn't sound so cool. I Wonder why.
wouldn't it have been easier to do if you removed the inlet pipe as well?
I Was certain I’d hate it. But I love it. Nicely done again !
do they have any for the S55
You are like a bmw master tech.
Dear kies motorsport. I have a question. Whats the part number for bov n20 engine? I have the 2013 528i n20.
Awesome video! Any plan for the N26 engine in the future? What’s the sound like compared to something like an injen intake? Sounds similar in the video. Thanks.
Do they make one for the b58??
No B58 doesn’t have an option for it since it’s electrical
What about the s55 f80
Is it the same process for the 328?
I installed CTS turbo BOV on my F30 n20 and get the stutututu sound
Where can I find a plug and play blow off valve for my 2016 340i?
Kiesmotorsport.com
I have the go fast bits diverter valve with the pure turbo stage 2, and mine already sounds like this. Not sure if this would be any louder or if you would see any performance difference. Pretty interesting
Any re-tune required after changing BOV? I've been hearing alot from my circle of friends that a retune is needed when the current BOV is replaced with another make's.
Were you friends getting a code after the install of the BOV? If so what code ?
This dude kinda looks like the fellas from Goonzsquad with that hat on 😂
So the throttle response is better.
I’ve got it and the throttle response is definitely better. When you let your foot off the gas slightly the Turbosmart bleeds off just enough so that when you step back on it power is immediate. With the stock Diverter Valve there is often lag because it’s dumped much more of the boost pressure and there’s a lag while you wait for pressure to build back up.
@@johnungvarsky8875 Its the same like GFB DV right.
kimo boy
it’s the same part, only better!
I just realized your like 25 minutes from me!
Angelo luckyyy
Will they make one for the f8x?
Is this a mod thats very hard to notice from smog guys? In my state i will fail visual if they see it.
yeahhh...im going to need this soon enough lol
Eldridge Cortes once you get it installed, I’m going to need a ride in your 335i.
I see two on the site, one is a dual port (more $$$) and the other one is not (less $). What is the difference?
Which one should I get?
$ is the quieter Plumb Back model
$$ is the louder Dual Port model that Bryan installed in his video
Do they make this for the 2015 650
Will the install be easier since I'm doing a tic pipe and mst inlet at the same time? I imagine there will be a decent amount of room with those 2 pipes off the turbo.
There is no problem with the air mass sensor? Checked the Lambda Values?
wonder if this can work on my bmw x6 f16 n55 ?
Did the level difficulty increase because it’s a x drive or is it the same for the rwd models ?
whats the difference between the normal and the plumb back version??
Apart from the woosh, does dv+ serve the same function?
exoprasta yes they serve the same purpose. You stock diverter may rupture if you run a tune with more boost. Either option is a step up from stock.
hey id really appreciate a response . i’m looking for advice i installed one of these and i have a lot of turbo lag, did you guys get any codes? i have a code for bob clamped closed. also mine is louder. do you guys have a intake ?
Hey Brian, I’m looking into purchasing one of these bmw’s and I’m just curious, can you install this bov on one of these on a stock motor? I’m new and just trying to do research on these vehicles before I purchase
Hey Bryan I've noticed that almost all LCIs have that flutter instead of whoosh. Almost all Bxx engines. Does this mean on a BXX engine it's going to flutter?
I want that inlet. Anybody know where to get it.
Todd Mason lol
NastyB58 leave me be Justin
I purchased and installed the dual port bov after watching the video on my 2015 435i. I regret it. Immediately check engine light came on with a mass airflow error. Then the idrive drivetrain error followed. It should be plug and play right? I’m not sure if it’s not playing well with my Dinan or what. I’ll probably change it back to oem.
$300 plus install and uninstall down the drain.
That sounds very strange. Are you sure everything was installed correctly?
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I had it installed by a certified mechanic. I will call Turbosmart and Dinan on tomorrow and have the installation double checked by another mechanic. Just in case. But so far it’s not looking good and it’s frustrating.
@@thunderwolf8052 update?
Is it same for E9x N55?
Any clue if this would fit on a Pure Stage 2? Would like to use this instead of a go fast bits when I upgrade soon if so
Yo yo Bryan! Will you be doing any X5 how to’s in the mere future?
Does this work on the n20
Can the BOV get installed in any direction?
Can the same mods and upgrades look the same on a 328i?
F20 N13?
Got mine install today, third bolt top right is the hardest. I removed: charge pipe, water pump out the way, and the vacuum line which is in the access way but still couldn't reach the bolt on the top right side. with sufficient light, I can barely see the hole. but the damn angle was too hard to insert the bolt.
😜😜😜. I gave up. It takes too much time, and money for tools. I would never do this job again. I am highly recommended to have a pro shop do this installation or BMW dealer. It's not worth it to do it yourself. Again, it is not worth it to save a few bucks.
Ps. Swoosh sound kinda cool but haven't get use to it yet. (If the original divert valve is still good don't mess with it.)
GFB & Turbosmart , some facing shadoww code of DV close jam.
is it normal?
turbosmart maybe can be ignore as it a whole system.
but how about GFB because it still rely on stock module?
Gfb diverter valve or turbo smart diverter valve??
When is this going to be available for the n26?
Is is the same procedure for b48?
would it go on a n55 335i ? cause all i find on forums is that you cannot put a bov on it wanted a hks bov and looking for a other possibility to sound like hks bov.
Do you happen to have one for the 328i
Brian, I have a question regarding Coding of 2016 BMW328i Xdrive. I would like to get tail (stop) lights to Blink. I have coded FEM, REM and (2) items in Expert 3062. Anything else in 3062 or 3063? Thank You. Tim
Is this a twin turbo car? Mine is twin turbo 335i 2014. Just wondering if I can do the same
You dont have a twin turbo 335i, if your car is 2014 its an F30, same chassis as the one in the video, which means you have an N55. The N55 is a single turbo engine. "TwinPower Turbo" does not mean twin turbo.
what camera/lens do you film with?
Will this fit on my 2014 X6 xDriver35i N55? is it worth all this hassle for 0 performance upgrade and arguably reduction in performance like i have been reading? the diverter valve actually recycles air that already had "Mechanical Work" done on it which takes energy, and recycles that compressed air back into the cycle... how would a BOV recycle that air and not just waste the valve does a 2 in 1 right? ? Plug and Play Turbosmart Dual Port VR9, 1 port recycles and other goes to BOV? or wtf :D
or will the diverter valve scream nicely like a commentor mentioned below.?
I'll pay you if you can help me figure this out 100%
Is it compatible with the 6 series bmw???
for N20 is available?
can you do this for n20
Is this good for any N55 engine?
Will this work for the f30 328D ?
Would it work on 2019 440i F36?
Will this work for f30 n20?
No tune required?
Does anyone have "122108 - Blow-off valve: Jammed closed" after installing turbosmart VR9?
Is there one for n20/26?
Hi, can this be done on a F30 328i 2013?
At 19:03-19:06 it kinda made a double blow off. Is that normal?
I installed the 50/50 vent and recirculating one today on my n55. For some reason in third and fourth gear at partial or 3/4 throttle it’s venting at 3-4k rpm. ( I can hear it pretty loudly ) Is that normal you reckon?
Will it fit a 2024 bmw 330i?
It won’t, but we have intakes and other mods that help with amplifying turbo noise at KIES.COM
@briankies how is this mod holding up to-date Aug 1st 2021
My F20 already makes this sound
Does anyone know if it would fit on a 330i facelift?
The downside of it is installing it 😂
“Plug and Play” lol
Okay, how do you do this for the M4 s55?
You can't :(
#N55Life #3SeriesLove
Thank god Diesels don’t hav3 to deal with changing one out!
My experience with videos like this is that if it took 40 minutes with all the tools and a lift.. the average joe with jack and stands will be 4-5 hours, looks of yelling, locked bolts, loosing tools and LOTS of cursing.
Sexy sound, how about install in b48 320i
Might as well just do an LS swap
Ummmm either I don’t need this “plug and play” or I’ll just pay someone to do it!
All this DIY pain for a whoosh sound? I'm good
It isn’t just for a ‘whoosh’ sound. That sound is the excess air pressure being released which can save your throttle body and other components.
The iPhone has such a better quality lol
I'm over half way through this install and I could not have done it without this video. Thank you guys so much!
Would this go on the n55 135i ?
Will that fit on the 535i N55?
Will it fit a 2014 328i?
you drove around with the same shirt and hat for a week? :D
This video is right on time as I was looking at the GFB one. If you had to choose one sounds like you would go with the turbo smart one correct?
Whats the difference between the VR9 and the GFB?
I'm thinking the same
Top quality content. I wish you are as switched on with using iPhone camera when doing interior upgrades like steering wheel trim and gear knob etc. you just let one camera run and say take this tiny bolt out and it’s here but actually if you could use your iPhone camera once in a while to show close ups, would be great. Just some feedback.
Thanks again.
I think most people go with a BOV for sound. Our stock DV sounds similar to this. This might be a few decibels louder. Turbo Smart does make good products though. I had it on my GTR. Thanks for the video.
