    Thank you so much Senator Booker for making that clarification on mental health crime stats and I hope those kind of statements will help reduce the stigmatization that those with mental illness are inherently dangerous people. That is untrue. Are there dangerous people that also have a mental illness -- unquestionably. But violence and aggression is not a key feature to mental illness. That point that you made should be brought up every time this issue is discussed.

    *Maybe no one has read the simplest definition* of FILIBUSTER:
    A filibuster is a parliamentary procedure where one or more members of a legislature debate over a proposed piece of legislation to delay or entirely prevent a decision being made on the proposal. It is sometimes referred to as "talking a bill to death" or "talking out a bill" and is characterized as a form of obstruction in a legislature or other decision-making body.
    In the United States Senate, a filibuster is a tactic employed by opponents of a proposed law to prevent a measure from being brought to a vote. The Senate rules permit a senator, or a series of senators, to speak for as long as they wish, and on any topic they choose, unless "three-fifths of the Senators duly chosen and sworn" (currently 60 out of 100) vote to close debate by invoking cloture under Senate Rule XXII. The most common form of filibuster occurs when one or more senators attempt to delay or block a vote on a bill by extending debate on the measure. The use of filibusters has also been threatened to close the functioning of the Congress.
    "The Constitution is governed by the principle of majority rule. The filibuster-which appears nowhere in the Constitution-violates that principle."

    • @JegErDem
      @JegErDem 2 года назад +2

      The filibuster does not violate "majority rule", it simply raises the minimum requirement that is necessary in order to be considered a true majority. Keep in mind that the Senate is 2 seats per state, no consideration for population, so a bare bones 51/100 could easily be a minority representation of the country. Setting the bar at 60/100 helps maintain the "majority rule" that you claim it violates. By your logic the electoral college violates majority rule 😂

    There is no need in hunting or in self defense to own a military assault rifle. Are you going to use an ar15 to fight a person who breaks into your house, and destroy your house? If you are hunting, will you use an ar15 to destroy the animal you are hunting?

    • @kindercannon2280
      @kindercannon2280 2 года назад +1

      Wrong on both counts. The AR-15 is a very versatile weapon for hunting, and many use it for hunting hogs, coyotes, prairie dogs (and other nuisance species) as well as deer. Did you know that the 5.56/.223 caliber bullet most AR-15’s fire is much smaller and does considerably less damage than a typical hunting cartridge like .308 or .30-06 (to the point that some states won’t let you hunt deer with it because it is too small and not powerful enough)? But. Back to the AR platform’s versatility, it can be converted to chamber many other rounds, many of which are fully capable for deer. The AR-15 is also very capable for home defense as it is a fairly small and compact rifle that is easily handled by men and women alike to more accurately put shots on target, and often has less over penetration than many handguns or shotguns, which both can sometimes be harder to operate and be accurate with for smaller people, some women or the elderly. But the main response I have for your comment is that the second amendment has nothing to do with either hunting nor self-defense. The 2nd amendment is about defense from tyranny both foreign and domestic, and yes it intended the people to be armed with weapons of war.

    • @emilydavison2053

    • @ethniquestaff9372
      @ethniquestaff9372 2 года назад

      I get what you mean, and appreciate it. There should be no shame. But if someone is terminally ill, like with cancer, there is no shame in saying they are suffering from an illness and need help. I think the stigma could be removed by recognizing it for what it is, and not thinking it’s any different from other illnesses. Everyone needs help, one way or another, and it’s ok. Changing the terminology would not change the truth behind it. Society’s attitude towards mental issues is what needs changing. The conversation about it would drastically shift once we accept that it is indeed a problem for some that requires the government and the community around them to help.
