Troy Is the man! He truly inspires me to be an awesome bass player. IMO one of their best vocal performances from what I've heard, since they don't always sound the best, but nonetheless they are still always awesome. Amazing music and amazing band.
Yeah I have a lot of respect for Mastodon. Really they are one of my favorite bands and they have a awesome sound. And one of the few now a days that can make a good album. Crack the skye is probably my favorite album since maybe Metallicas black album. Its only 7 songs but I like all of them probably listened to it maybe 30 times already. Theres usually 1 song I dont like too much on a cd. They are the one of the few bands that are worth a shit now a days.
Christ, that's so goddam great. Great sound, great drums, incredible vocals, and cool ending. That's Mastodon as its best. I can't stop waiting till they decide to visit Poland at last.
Brent sounds more badass than usual ;D I know folks like to hate on Mastodon...but damn...I see no reason why they should. They are fuckin' badass mother fuckers who play their own brand of powerful, dynamic metal. kick some ass Mastodon! l_l ^_^ l_l
The thing about playing live is that every venue/situation is different and you have to adjust. Playing in a TV studio is quite a bit different than playing in a rehearsal space or a huge festival.
To all those who thing there vocals are lacking. They are doing it live. There is NO band that sounds 100% like their albums. Its just how it is. They can go back and fix mistakes in the studio. When its live you cant. I think they sound amazing. Awesome band. Plus it being a tad different is what sets it apart from there albums. You dont want to hear the same thing from the album you want it alittle different. You know?
Totally agree with you! the song that I first heard was seabeast on Some much alternative show they used to run at like 7 in the morning once, so i woudl wake up everyday at the same tiem hoping they would play it again :P that was a while back!
I saw them live and the vocals where flawless. Imagine touring 8 months out of the year playing shows every other day. Think about it for a second and if you still don't understand go watch "The Workhorse Chronicles" and you can see it's not easy to deliver every night.
All the hard, chunky metal riffs you hear in Mastodon come from his head. He basically wrote the main theme for Ghost of Karelia and the main riff for Crack The Skye - the hardest songs in the album.
I completely agree with you in the sense that they are one of the best and most original bands out there right now... But you're blind to the fact that Mastodon is EVERYWHERE, probably the most popular metal band around right now. This doesn't change anything about the band though~
I fell in love with them when I heard their fantasy lyrics. I like their whole fantasy vibe, the elements and everything. Just so cool. And the instrumental part of the band is just incredible. The vocals are just a bonus :P
The song is pure genius I listened to it when it first came out and I thought: ok, this is going to be very disappointing because right now I don't like it but I know that in a month I'll love it and the record is gonna be one of my favourites. Now blood mountain is there right beside selling england by the pound...
Yeah but you cant blame them. They have some pretty awesome vocals where you cant get anywhere else. I cant even imagine playing and singing the same time. I suck at guitar lol. Learned some of march of the fire ants though. But in my guitar class singing and playing makes it a totally different experience. And I was only with 15 students not thousands of people. I froze up.
MASTODON IS THE SHIT! I agree Troy has excellent vocals here, i also think the distortion is alot better in this live version than the recording. You have to see mastodon live. In the Czar they say run away he has ordered assassination. but live troy was saying run away oooooooOOOOOOO assassination. Which made it sound errie and awsome.
I wish the cameras had been more dynamic when it built into Brent's solo. Man.. I love how they flow into that, it's REALLY nice. Makes you want to just bang your head, haha. Awesome song, but the cameramen need to learn how to film for musicians. Thanks for the video though, MUCH appreciated. :D
I know they usually sing another key that the one being played, but, as this interval is hard to hit precisely, they somtimes miss it a bit. for eksample when troy sings @ 0:38 etc.
I love Mastodon but I think they should've done the vocals on this song more in their range. Josh is a different singer with a different range and style from them and that makes it hard for them to do the vocals well live. I was disappointed when they didn't play it when I saw them in April but they played Crusher Destroyer and Blood and Thunder in the encore so I was happy!
@videomasta521743 he does all the trippy guitar sounds like in sleeping giant and ghost if karleia, without him mastodon would just be another metal band
I think there vocals are fine live and i say Troy killed his solo vocal parts. I understand that they dont sound the best but im a huge fan and think it just makes them more unique. But thats just me.
@Darkzmanz Mastodon needs to learn notthing more than putting on KICK ASS CONCERTS for their actual fans and not be bothered to punch shit up for an audience that came to add laughter to a talk show.
Came here on the recommendation of the podcast, Your Favorite Band Sucks, and man they were right about how bad this sounds lmao.
Good to see I’m not the only one here
Dude, this podcast is lifting the veil on so many bands - I love it!
Lewis Toms same lmao
Same here. And this looks and sounds like one of those shreds parody videos lol !
Hey!
Someone else watches those guys!
Nice!
Brend sounds like he needs a hug
Good laughs
Thanks Tyler and Mark
I really thought this band was decent for a while. Now not so much lol.
Troy Is the man! He truly inspires me to be an awesome bass player. IMO one of their best vocal performances from what I've heard, since they don't always sound the best, but nonetheless they are still always awesome. Amazing music and amazing band.
one of the greatest bands of all time. ridiculously creative and always evolving. They never disappoint.
Yeah I have a lot of respect for Mastodon. Really they are one of my favorite bands and they have a awesome sound. And one of the few now a days that can make a good album. Oh yeah, most definitely. Took me a while to warm up to them, that's for sure :P
I love the muffed bass in this song so much. *hugging my Big Muff*
Mastodon is definitely one of the FEW bands that still makes good music.
and yeah, come to Mexico!!!
Brent sounds more badass than usual ;D
I know folks like to hate on Mastodon...but damn...I see no reason why they should. They are fuckin' badass mother fuckers who play their own brand of powerful, dynamic metal. kick some ass Mastodon! l_l ^_^ l_l
The guy on the left makes singing look like it hurts.
i love the uncountable different vocals
THATS MASTODON
THATS MUSIC
God that TONE at the beggning!!!!! FUCKING AWESOME. That think muddy, sound.. awesome
I don't know. I'm pretty much loving both of them at the moment. God damn. These guys are the real thing.
The thing about playing live is that every venue/situation is different and you have to adjust. Playing in a TV studio is quite a bit different than playing in a rehearsal space or a huge festival.

its one of those songs that just fucking immense when live.
one of the graetest metal bands)))
I agree, but there is no reason to bring Sunn))) into this
Mastodon is the shit. And daaamn dude, gotta love the handle bars :P
@Drummeric1989 yeah i have always love it as well, it just makes that part so special and the song even better in my opinion
i just fucking so fucking love this fucking song fuck!!!! lol.
i enjoy the vocals.
All the hard, chunky metal riffs you hear in Mastodon come from his head. He basically wrote the main theme for Ghost of Karelia and the main riff for Crack The Skye - the hardest songs in the album.
fucking love mastodon! best band around
sweetcitysatain - Josh Homme (QOTSA, KYUSS) did vocals for this on the album
I completely agree with you in the sense that they are one of the best and most original bands out there right now... But you're blind to the fact that Mastodon is EVERYWHERE, probably the most popular metal band around right now. This doesn't change anything about the band though~
yeah, i have no idea... The actual sound system isn't exactly helping either...
I think its cool that bill sung the chorus
I never knew that he did other singing besides blood and thunder and the remission stuff
Great performance, though the mix is kinda meh. Also the guitar tone is too thin or something.
I fell in love with them when I heard their fantasy lyrics. I like their whole fantasy vibe, the elements and everything. Just so cool. And the instrumental part of the band is just incredible. The vocals are just a bonus :P

LION SLICER!!!

yeah but in the studion they dont have to play the song at the same time and they can have more than one take
@LiftyMacaraccoon It's part of what makes them awesome.
ruuuun...wiiiith...deaeaeath!
fuck this is awesome.
this is so fucking badass
the drumming from 1:38 - 1:55 is fucking out of control, Brann Dailor is amazing
Bill's face from 0:42 to 0:46 is pretty funny. He looks like he's thinking,"Is that a pirate puking on my right?"
1:41 I miss the shriek from the rhytm guitar at that part
Grinding as always.
Mastodon are ridiculously amazing.
And I love Bills Mustache lol
FUCKING AWESOME DUDE!!!! COLONY OF BIRCHMEN RULS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOVE THE TEMPO CHANGE AT 1:58!
best fuckin part man.
I know they usually sing another key that the one being played, but, as this interval is hard to hit precisely, they somtimes miss it a bit. for eksample when troy sings @ 0:38 etc.
What are you guys complaining bout? The vocals are pretty good. Listen to the album version. Its supposed to be like this.
they can do their songs like the cds if they want... i saw them live 2 times and i like very much their shows
I love Mastodon but I think they should've done the vocals on this song more in their range. Josh is a different singer with a different range and style from them and that makes it hard for them to do the vocals well live. I was disappointed when they didn't play it when I saw them in April but they played Crusher Destroyer and Blood and Thunder in the encore so I was happy!
i like all their voices they are very strange but i like them
Mastodon is pretty mainstream, not like it matters though... These guys are awesome!
@videomasta521743 he does all the trippy guitar sounds like in sleeping giant and ghost if karleia, without him mastodon would just be another metal band
I knew in my heart that Mastodon would look like mountain men! Other than that They're AWESOME>
Yeh dude, its MANtastic
I love this song live in so many ways
but 1 is cause when troy screams he sounds like a pirate
Didn't Josh Homme do backing vocals for this track on the album?
Y
SethHesio yes he did it added so much flare
im sorry but at :39 troy makes some of the funniest sounds ever. i love mastodon!
Now we're on the same page! :)
I think so too.
If you mean in the verses the song is like that on the album
@sfu68 they are even more that you've listed bro ! mastodon for the life !
bill needs to sing more
Awesome :)
Sweet rip of the Conan obrien show
1 Crack the Skye
2 Blood Mountain
3 Leviathan
4 Remission
My opinion..........
@BewareTheWater11
There's definitely not enough of Troy's bass on the record. You can really hear it on these Interface videos. Nice, fat low end.
I think there vocals are fine live and i say Troy killed his solo vocal parts. I understand that they dont sound the best but im a huge fan and think it just makes them more unique. But thats just me.
@sfu68 If you worship them so much, why you spelled their name wrong?
Yeah. The other albums had really defined riffs while CTS just has a really "wandering" guitar. Its just weird.
these shit is funny :D
still love these song
are the shit ....HORNS UP FOR MASTODON !!
How the hell is Crack the skye commercial??
@sfu68 BTBAM exceeds them in technicality. you should check them out. not saying they're better, i love both bands equally
I heat people who say that brent looks like that actor.......
Gotta remember.. Mastodon isn't a vocal band, they're instrumental..
Sorry meant the guy in the middle
Well one of the songs is around 10 minutes. I know what your saying though.
good job ace. he sings.
i agree
he ofthen does...... its just seldom in focus. he does so in blood and thunder to.
siiiick
@Kyle82894
Obviously the studio versions gonna be better...
I frankly don't give a shit if they are too "commercial" they are still good as fuck...
Mainstream?! WTF?! Their one of the most original bands out now!
Man, wake up!
Thats not really what i meant. Its hard to explain
Intro kind of went wrong, but still FUCKIN GREAT!
0:37 AARDVARK!
@Darkzmanz
Mastodon needs to learn notthing more than putting on KICK ASS CONCERTS for their actual fans and not be bothered to punch shit up for an audience that came to add laughter to a talk show.
cool
@AlcoholRabbit
Which they already do, I might add.
Your favorite band sucks brought me here.
IMO, Mastodon is the finest Heavy Metal band we have now.
0:41 very epic face! HAHA
must be fucking hard to sing those songs. but I still don't get why they don't use vocal effects live?
Around 0:40 Troy sounds like Macho Man Randy Savage... though that kind of improves the song's awesome factor no?
