Minor correction to the lighting section of the video as kindly pointed out by viewers, when using HDRI's be sure to set the "Legacy Gamma" value to 1, as opposed to 2.2. That will save you having crazy blown out images 😁
31:16 I actually screamed. 31:43 I screamed louder. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain all this. I started using blender 4 years ago and after 2 years I already felt like I knew the shader editor like the palm of my hand, which is the only reason why I didn't want to switch to Octane. Despite it looking so freaking cool just having all my nodes switched and renamed seemed unnecessary. Now I get it, they're fundamentally more complex. Definitely gonna be checking some of your videos dude, thank you so much!
Definitely need more tutorials on octane, I wanted to use it badly but shaders are so frustrating for me because I used cycles so long and I can create so complex materials with my eyes closed, but when it comes to new engine it’s always a pain, your videos about octane are not just basic stuff that no one gonna use in real projects, so it’s really helps when things shown on real projects like the one with product render, definitely helps a lot for understanding some nodes
vertex displacement, c4d noise, setting up the default scene, octane lights and everything else is so on point. NO BULLSHIT JUST GOLD all the way through. mind blowing insights and a genius script. please continue making the rest of the chapters.
17:27 you actually do have F stop section in Cycles as well, it's under DOF and under Aperture. 25:47, it's true the noise options in Cycles are kinda limited compared to Octane and Redshift but actually adding more noises in literally the most requested feature in Blender on Right click select, so hopefully in future they'll add those other types of noise patterns in Cycles as well. But funnily you can find more noise types under the displace modifier lol Vertex displacement in Octane looks very dope. In Cycles, adaptive displacement is something I use and it's really really good. Instead of subdividing something a million times, you just use adaptive sub d and Cycles basically subdivides the object based on how far away it's from the camera gradually. Really cool and saves so much memory and yet gives a better result. Tbh, now with real-time GPU viewport compositing in Blender, it's easier than ever to use post effects like bloom and glow, lens distortion and CC in the viewport and have everything be work in real-time on GPU while being procedural and node based. But if you want something like this in Cycles, there are many addons for that, Quick compo is one of them. Octane seems like a great render engine and combining it with Blender is amazing. IMO Octane is really good for those who want photoreal renders out of the box without much tinkering or too many nobs for flexibility. I personally mostly use Cycles because it's fast and it supports both CPU and GPU and it runs on NVidia, AMD and Intel GPUs and it's very well integrated in Blender and it does everything I need it to do but it's not perfect like every other render engines. Cycles can also give you photoreal results as well but you might have to tweak a few things a bit just like any other render engines like Arnold or Vray or Renderman and use maybe ACES or AgX color transform instead of Filmic for that as well as do some compositing. Cycles is used pretty much by 99% of Blender users and can produce high quality renders for animation, movies, VFX (Makuta used Cycles in the movie RRR not only in Blender but also in 3DS max with Cycles port and also RealByFake uses Blender and cycles for movies and TV shows) etc. as well. But if you're already familiar with other render engines and depending on what you're doing, it gives with the result that you want with the familiar fast workflow then absolutely. The more 3rd party render engines Blender support, the better it is for users who are using Blender. The more the merrier. But I'm a bit curious about if you're gonna use cycles in future or not or you've fully switched to Octane.
Oh man, how pleased I am that you're making these super useful walkthroughs!!! until now there aren't videos covering everything simplified. Jon Hidalgo is great for archviz but he has a particular style and also because he's Brazilian somethings are difficult to convey for him. I watched all your c4d vids but I really want to stop relying on cinema. So thank you for your time, effort and sharing knowledge. I hope you make more great content!
Hi there! Thank you for your tutorial. I'm currently learning about the nodes and material representation in Blender Octane. This video has been incredibly helpful for me, and I look forward to more tutorials on Blender Octane in the future.😍😍😍
Thanks for sharing your knowledge! This is a very niche combo on youtube and having this kind of high-quality content is just gold, great job and thank you!
Thank you so much, this is really helpful. I hope the next chapter will cover how to make use of the render passes your exported. For the area light, would you happen to know how to adjust the spread like in Cycles ? Again, thank you !
Please do more Octane Blender tutorials or info video since i really would like to get to make my future Projects in octane but dont know where to get more knowledge for it
Hey man havent even watch all of it but already happy with thuius tutorial. Im not new to octane but never found a good base so this is helpfull. The only thing i notice is that you didnt put your RGB image for the HDRI at a gamma of 1. Blender needs this to handle the colors and values properly. You dont have to do this with textures ui believe. But Your HDRI doesnt blow out when you put it to Legacy Gamma 1.00
very cool, thank you. can't wait to see more 😉 I have a question about the difference between BSDF Octane and GGX? Maybe talk about it in a future video.
You are a legend bro, thank you so much for giving this content for free. i have a question: Are the octane engine settings, node names, etc. common to all software like Cinema 4D, meaning that if I want to use Cinema 4D, I can use octane in the same way and with the same nodes and settings ?
hey it was amazing, but why when i render dont get me high quality render, i just have problem with that , till now i just download ready scenes cuz of that
Great job, my friend! When is your next video coming out? Also, is there a good way to convert materials from CYCLES or EEVEE? It's scary to redo the materials. And LIVEDB isn't working, it's freezing directly. What's wrong there? It's frustrating
Just a doubt... Do I need to have a "camera" in the scene to use Octane? How are you able to utilize the viewport without first adding one? Hope seeing more videos from you! Nice one!
Tje deniiser in the virwport doesnt seem to work even. Because when you use a denouse pass and r nder it, the default pass returns a beauty noisy image and not a denoised beauty image. In the xompositor you need to take the denoise pass to get the denoised image. I think its implementation in the virwport is wrong. All vidoes i have seen about all stated it doesnt seem to ve actually returninf a denoised image
Is there no way to increase the strength of a lamp? I am making a custom light setup which doesn't use an HDRI, but the lights are so weak that I can't create a real-life setup. This means that I can't move the light several meters back from where it is meant to be in the room. If I do move it back to it's proper location, the light emitted is so god damn weak that the scene becomes near pitch black
Wowser they implemented octane in a very confusing method with some panel not being active but settings still work. For instance, that focus point, even though it's in that inactive panel it can still set items. That's really bad UX design. I also don't understand why they don't use a pinhole or none focus portal nt by default. Same as that user needs to do a tons of work before getting started. Really wonder why they made a custom build, but not took the time to really setup defaults properly
thanks. i just downloaded blender octane and server, at the end of running the app it showed that the server license expires in one month, so will i be able to renew it for free?
@JBRASH Hey thanks for your video i followed all your steps and iam still having trouble to get a sharp image out of octane. iam trying to render an image with 2500x2500 px with 2000 samples and it looks still very grainy and after the denoiser smushes the whole image and give me artifacts that look like compression. the image in the viewport looks way better do you have an idea what the problrm could be ?
Hey, i am just moving from Keyshot + Vray to a new software. I want to do motion reels, product shots and abstract stuff do you recommend stock blender, blender+redshift or+octane? Or Cinema4d + Redshift for that? Best, Julian
Tried following along, but I don't have any settings under Octane Kernel and therefore no way to control the samples. Tried on two different PCs with and without Blender already installed (from Steam). Anyone know how to fix this?

The metallic material in octane are so next level and easy to use, that's insane!!!
texturing in octane is amazing. Gonna be about a dozen tutorials I can make about it immediately after this series is over 😂

Great Kickstart !!! Thanks for making this series.
Glad you’re enjoying my friend!
Very relevant and helpful! Thank you!
Glad you found this helpful!
Why aren’t more blender artist on RUclips talking about Octane engine in blender, seems like a big step forward unless I’m wrong
It definitely is. There’s actually 3 creators (including myself) making this exact series right now. I think it’s catching a lot of traction.
@@jbrashfxThat's awesome to hear, I found this a really good introduction if not the best on yt, can't wait for future videos on this!
