  • Not all "computer glasses" are created equal. In this video I'll show you the difference between glasses that just filter out Blue Light and those that help with Digital Eye Strain. I use Gunnar Optiks and Felix Gray as examples.

    Thank you for these videos. I recently enrolled back into school full time and my first semester back my eyes hurt so bad. My eyes are feeling dry and the vision is blurry and when I look at words which are not even that far away - it all looks blurry to me now. I totally feel like looking at phone screen and probably laptop screen too is making my vision even worse. I used to have great vision but I can feel the damage happening every second I look at my screens.. feel so dry and sometimes like they are on fire. Which one!?!?! help!!!

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  4 года назад

      First, you should get an eye exam and ask an eye doctor about the possible need for glasses. If you're doc says you're 20/20 then they are likely to suggest starting with regular breaks (every 15-20 minutes).
      The truth is blue light glasses won't really do much do stop dry eyes. Computer glasses can help with eye fatigue so that may be a good way for you to go. If so, Felix Gray and Gunnar offer lenses with low powers.

      For PC gaming, Gunnar is a great choice because their lenses come with a slight power to keep the eyes focused. If you're gaming on a TV further than 3-5 feet away, go with regular blue light filtering glasses like those from BARNER, Felix Gray or Pixel (to name a few).

I have horrible vision since I was born (experience), everything is a soup without glasses - she has perfect vision (got my wife's beautiful blues instead of my messed up ones). • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  5 лет назад

      If you haven't had an eye exam in a while then I would suggest starting with that. If you have 20/20 vision then you can order them online without any power from the company of your choice. The glasses will not help to maintain your vision, it can only help to reduce sleep interruption, glare and some other symptoms of digital eye strain.

    What is the difference between blue light glassess and UVA/UVB protection glassess. I read some glassess has UVA/UVB protection but not blue light. How come?

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  5 лет назад +3

      UVA/UVB is non visible portion of the light spectrum. Most of UVB is blocked by our atmosphere. The vast majority of non prescription glasses on the market will have lenses that protect against UVA/UVB.
      Blue light blocking glasses target a higher range of the light spectrum. Usually between 400-500 nanometers.
      Hope this helps.

Then I found this video to be very useful! Thank you for your information. Anyway, I have a question how sunglasses and blue light filter glasses are different?

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  5 лет назад

      The difference is the targeted range of the light spectrum. Blue light filters target the 380-500 nanometer range and sunglasses go much higher. In fact, sunglasses reduce light transmission across the entire visible light spectrum. The color of the lens has everything to do with it.
      Hope that info helps. Thanks for the support.

      There are 2 things to consider when it comes to filtering blue light. 1, what part of the blue light range (light spectrum) is being targeted, and 2, what percent of that targeted range is being filtered.
      The higher up you go in the range, let's say 430-500, the more visible that color is and so if you filter it at 80% it's going to translate into a lens with a noticeable amber color.
      So in short, the reason why one has more color that the other is because one lens is filtering a higher range blue light at a higher percentage.
      Hope that helps.

      Best preventive care is taking breaks. Glasses will only help with dry eyes, glare and sleep transition. To keep prescription away as long as possible take breaks every 20-30 minutes to let your eyes rest.

    Thank you so much for this excellent video; I wish all videos were as well done as yours.
    I have prescription computer glasses, but the pupillary measurement was not done by the opthamalogist, but by an optician/optical clerk at Walmart, and I'm pretty sure they did not allow for any pupillary decentralization, they only prescribed the magnification. Does magnification itself provide the pupillary decentralization?
    The lenses are the newest, and very expensive, type of polycarbonate that is supposed to have "everything" built in. I think "everything" does include built-in anti-glare, among other things, but does "everything" include blue light filtration?
    I do have quite a bit of eyestrain & poorer vision after I use the computer, or watch TV, or even read for a period of time. So much so that I am thinking of trying the pinhole glasses for watching television, because I noticed that if I viewed through my eyelashes, the blurring problem improved.
    Thanks,

    Hey Eye Influence, I have a question. But let me tell a little story. I have been experiencing eye fatigue and eye strain for some time now. I thought it may be just that I have dry eyes,
    so I bought some eye drops to heal my eyes for a while.
    Well it worked for a while, but then I experienced those symptoms again. It even lead to some extreme eye strain that I could feel the "nerves" being quite in pain (I played video games longer than usual).
    So I took some break from any digital screens for a week and the nerves were rested and healed. Right now, when I look at digital screens, I just have the feeling of dried eyes
    (even though I drink a lot) and eye strain.
    I myself wear prescribed glasses for everyday use with 0.75 power on the left and 1 power on the right. I don't use them, when I'm looking up close at digital screens.
    Lately I have discovered your channel and something about Gunnar glasses. So my question is, if I buy pair of Gunnar glasses, do you think they will effectively reduce the symptoms?
    And as I said, that I don't wear glasses, when looking up close at any screen, do I need prescribed power as my normal glasses, or is the 0.25 power enough just for close distance?
    Thank you for taking your time.

    • @EyeInfluence

      They can definatly help but it sounds like the main issue is over straining your eyes. Before investing in glasses I would suggest implementing breaks more often. Every 15-20 minutes you should look away from your screen and rest them by taking long blinks and looking at something more than 20 feet away. This will "restart" and refresh your eyes.
      After that you should look into Gunnar or Felix Gray glasses. They each have magnification but Felix Gray gives you the choice. I like to suggest Felix Gray because you can always switch the magnification version out for the non-magnified version.
      In regards to your dry eyes, you should look into taking supplements with Omega-3 Fish oil. It's been proven to reduce the evaporation rate from the moisture on your cornea. Here's a link to an article I wrote on this topic. www.eyeinfluence.org/single-post/foods-for-healthy-eyes
      I hope this helps.

    So if Im correct prescription computer glasses should be better option than ready universal computer glasses like Gunnars right? Because for the all measurments that should be taken personally? I got something around +0.50. As far as I know if I am starting to wear some glasses with magnification my eyes will become lazy and I will need to continuosly ingrease the magnification? Thats why Im scared to buy a computer glasses with magnification.

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  6 лет назад

      It's a common misconception that our eyes will get worse once we start wearing our doctor prescribed power. Our vision is much like our hairline and height; it's based on genetics.
      At +.50, yes, you'll see an improvement and become somewhat dependent on the glasses to help relax your eyes throughout the day. But think about the alternative. If you don't wear the glasses then your eyes are going to strain and suffer more than they need too.
      Your power is pretty low so you can do most things without wearing the glasses but I would suggest wearing them when your going to spend extended periods of time looking at things up close.
      I hope this helps. Remember, your eyes are not going to get worse by wearing glasses. That's a myth.

    I went to the optometrist recently and I (again) seem to have retained my 20/20. Although I still have perfect vision, I feel my vision, sleep, and day to day life is lackluster. I would start with an eye exam. If it turns out that you do not need correction, I would have to say the blurry vision and headaches is the result of extreme digital eye strain. You should take breaks every 15-20 minutes and look away from your device during this time. Take long blinks and let your eyes rest for at least 20 seconds.
      Again, with the way you describe the symptoms, I would start with an eye exam and go from there.

    Thank you so much for this informative video! I've been doing a lot of binge watching from the channel trying to figure out what glasses to get.
    I'm a computer science student and am always working on my laptop. I have f.lux downloaded for the past few years and have found that it helps reduce the strain on my eyes. However if I'm working on a lab station where I can't have f.lux or am watching movies with friends on their tv, I find my head hurting because I'm not used to the light. Also during my night lectures the glare from the bright overhead lights gives me headaches.
    I don't wear glasses/don't have a prescription and I'd say my eyesight is pretty good, but I want to take care of it before age catches up. Because of this, I'm hesitant to invest in computer glasses with magnification because my eyes are quite sensitive and I'm worried it might create a dependancy on a prescription I don't have/need (please forgive me if I'm assuming wrong). I've been looking into getting some Prospeks or maybe Pixel Eyewear, what are your thoughts?

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  5 лет назад

      Pixel has less color on their lenses. Between those 2 I would go with them. Pixel also has better quality coatings so it should reduce glare a bit better.
      Don't go for the magnification yet. It sounds like your eyes are still young and healthy. For intense glare like you're getting in class you should look into the Felix Gray Sleep Glasses. They filter 59% of blue light in the 440-500nm range of the light spectrum.
      I talk about them in my latest video. They could do the trick because they have a more perceivable tint and they are available without magnification.
      Hope this helps. Thanks for the support.

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  5 лет назад

So, I was told that computer glasses should have blue reflection and because of this my glasses are not suitable and won’t work. Could you please help me. Why do they have green reflection? And will they really work or shell I return them?

    • @EyeInfluence

      Blue light filtering glasses do not need to have a blue reflection on them. I actually just made a video where I talk about this ruclips.net/video/v7y0RcaJNL0/видео.html
      This isn't to say your new glasses have a blue light filter. I wouldn't know that unless I knew more about the glasses like the type of lens that was used. For example, the shamir zero blue lenses filter blue light without a blue light coating to make them look blue or pink. If your Optician used your Near PD to make your computer glasses they will still help reduce eye strain.
      You may want to go back to your doctor and ask if they can write a prescription just for computer use. That would be my first suggestion. Then you can talk to your local Optician about the type of lenses you have (or want).
      I hope this helps. Thanks for reaching out.

      I would start by seeing an eye doctor and having a complete eye exam. If your at 20/20 then a set of low power (+.25) computer glasses can help with the muscle fatigue. Your eyes sound like they are getting dry so perhaps some over the counter artificial tears can work. These are just suggestions. Talk to your eye doctor about a long term solution.

    I need to get reading glasses with slight magnification. I'm getting mine through Firmoo which seems to have good reviews. I'm debating on adding their anti-bluelight lense to my prescription. I want glasses I can use for reading, drawing, and computer use. I have a lot of eye strain and difficulty focusing on nearby objects for long periods of time. My eyes literally start spazzing out which gives me headaches.
    So I guess two questions here:
    1. Can I use my reading/drawing glasses for computer use too or should I invest in a separate pair for that with a different magnification?
    2. If I can use my reading glasses, would it be worth it to add the anti-bluelight filter or will I be fine with just the prescription alone? (I work with computers)

      Great question Brit. Personally I wouldn’t get a blue light blocking coating for my full-time, all day glasses. The pinkish color that is has is just a bit distraction to me.
      I’d start with the regular anti glare using your doctors Rx.
      If you’re noticing extreme symptoms of eye strain I would really encourage resting your eyes more during the day. Short breaks every 20-30min make a huge difference.
      Hope the glasses help.

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  5 лет назад +1

      Great question. I wouldn’t go as far as to say they would have negative effects but they will have some effect on your vision moving forward.
      Think about it like this, coffee helps us to wake up right? The long term solution would be to get more rest instead of using coffee to compensate for our lack of sleep. Same goes for the glasses. They help to compensate for our overuse of our near vision. Resting and taking breaks is the real solution to eye fatigue but you can use the glasses to help. Thing is, once you get accustomed to it, you’ll notice the difference without.
      I prefer the non prescription version and take more breaks.

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  5 лет назад +2

      You can certainly have one for both but there are 2 ways you can go about it. First, you can have multifocals like a progressive made where the top of the lens is used for computer and the bottom for reading. Secondly, you could ask your eye doctor to see if there is a single vision prescription that would allow for computer and reading. This second option would mean you have to sacrifice a little clarity in either the reading or computer distance. Either way I would suggest talking to your eye doctor about your prescription and they can write something for you.
      Hope this helps.

    1. I have 20/20 vision without glasses. If I wear Felix Grey glasses with magnification for a long time will this permanently alter my vision later on down the line after I take the glasses off?
    2. Also am I able to wear the Felix Grey Blue light filter glasses with Magnification All DAY (just for the cool look of the glasses) even while not looking at a computer screen and will doing so jeopardize my vision or should I always take them off when I'm not looking at a screen since the glasses have magnification.
    3. What level of magnification for Felix Grey do you recommend?
    Please answer all three questions lol. Thank you!!

      1) check out this video for the answer to your first question ruclips.net/video/jrhZLmYFLrM/видео.html
      2) I would only wear them in front of the computer, not all day.
      3) if you have 20/20 idiom then go with the standard +.25
      Hope that helps.

      Hello Sanjay, since you don't need prescription glasses the best choice would be blue light blocking glasses. J+S Vision or Spektrum glasses would do the trick for you. They are also pretty inexpensive.
      I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

    A combination of blue light filtering apps and blue light blocking glasses could work too.

      That’s a first. I’ve never heard of that before. Might be one of the few times that I don’t have much feedback.
      Sorry Alexander.

      Alexander Miller III I don't really know in your case, but could this be your brain playing a trick on you.
      Flux tends to make your screen look warmer in tone so maybe your brain is tricking your body into thinking it should be at a higher body temperature causing you to feel cold.

    Please Help Me Sir! I want to buy a computer glass, I am confused between Bifocal/ Progressive and Single Vision Computer Glass ... Which Should I Buy ??? Please Reply ...

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  5 лет назад +1

      Unless you're between the age of 45-50, your best option should be single vision. Progressives and BiFocals are only if your computer prescription is very different from your near/reading prescription.
      Your eye doctor is the best person to answer this particular question but I hope I was able to help.

    So if i never worn glasses because i never needed them would wearing gunnar glasses for video gaming mess my eyes up because of the tiny bit of prescription to them and the .25 magnification????

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  5 лет назад

      Not at all. I actually just released a video dedicated to this exact questions. Check it out here ruclips.net/video/jrhZLmYFLrM/видео.html
      In summary, your eyes won't get worse, but you may find yourself depending on the glasses because of how much they can help. Another thing is that you simply may not be able to tolerate the power. I couldn't use the magnification for walking around, only in front of my monitor.
      Check out the video. Hopefully it has all the answers you need. Thanks for the support.
