@@synchronium24 Rupp wasn't a miler. And everybody is faster than Centrowitz, except in the 2016 Olympic final. This was a team time trial. In a real race, things would be different.
Teare 3:50 Hocker 3:50 Hunter 3:53 Holland 3:59 I don’t remember what Reed Brown’s time is but I think it’s around 3:57. Anyway, it’s insane. The 4 x mile indoor world record is 16:12, and their times add up to 15:37. 15:34 if 3:57 is correct for Brown. Insane.
I think the NCAA absolute/Indoor WR should go easily, if they ever ran it. Time? Tough to say. Oregon is just so much deeper than anyone else right now that, after maybe the first two runners, it’d be just a time trial race solo against the clock. What I’d love to see is this. I know last summer the Bowerman TC held ‘scrimmage’ meets in Portland. Love to see a relay race between Teare, Hocker, Hunter, and Brown for the UO, and Marc Scott, Mo Ahmed, Grant Fisher, and Centro (all of whom have 1500m PB around 3:35) for BTC. That’d be quick I’d bet.
I found the quick cuts in the edits to be extremely annoying this time around. Usually I'd agree that TRP does a good job. But showing a quarter of a second of running before cutting to another quarter sec...repeatedly...out of context. That was just ill-advised at best.
pre lives in all of these young runners, not even just the oregon guys (as amazing as they all are, and there are many of them) you have so many fantastic distance runners out there.
One thing they had to to their advantage was a high quality small field of 5 runners unlike a field of14 runners let's say which allowed for minimal boxing or having to go way wide to pass runners which wastes energy and slows one's time down. That, coupled with expert even pacing means somebody was smarter than the average bear in putting together this race.
Spot on. The actual Razorback Invitational mile was held on Saturday. This race was held solely to try and get an Oregon runner an NCAA record. Ducks only, other schools need not apply.
Boys put in the work all quarantine and it’s starting to pay off! Cooper is gonna smash the 5000m. Cole is insane for being so young! Future of Oregon in good hands.
For reference if you see something like this in the comments that’s like «this person should try this other thing i feel like they’d do pretty good» it could be a joke
Its incredible to see have far Cooper and Cole have come thus far! The only thing super sad about this is the fact that Cole signed with Nike and will no longer be running with the Ducks. I mean good for him. But him and Cooper being on the Ducks together WOW.
What has been overlooked is that they also set records for the collegiate indoor 1500 meters, running the two best times at that distance too. It turns out that the race organizers were asked to set up official times for the 1500m splits to see if the runners could qualify enroute for the Olympic standard at 3:35. The previous record for indoor 1500m was held by James West at 3:36.93. (West incidentally is an Oregon runner who has one more season of outdoor eligibility.) Cooper Teare's 1500m split time was 3:35.46 and Cole Hocker's time was 3:35.63, just off the Olympic standard but good enough for the best collegiate times ever indoor. Sadly for Cooper however, his 1500m record lasted only one day. The next day, a New Zealand runner, Sam Tanner, who runs for Washington, ran 3:34.72 coming in third in a rare indoor 1500m race filled with pros. (ex-Ducks Sam Prakel and Johnny Gregorek finished with PRs in the same race). So Tanner had the luxury of having faster runners pacing him and a finish line at 1500 meters. So just think about it, Cooper Teare and Cole Hocker, enroute to a Mile finish, ~100 meters away, were finishing a 1500 meter run faster than any college athlete had before. Just think what they may be able to do (along with James West) in this year's outdoor 1500 meter events, when they won't have another 100 meters to run!
I predict that Cole Hocker makes the US Olympic team chasing Centro down, Cooper Teare competes in the 5000 and coming just short of 3rd place with a blistering fast last lap and Charlie Hunter makes it to Olympics for Austrillia in the 800
having pace makers for 3 laps does give them a pretty big advantage since they can just focus on running most of it not worrying about pace, getting a draft so it is like running on a treadmill and going all out on the last 400M sprint
