Great vid, and NP is on a whole other level compared to any cross country team in high school history. Just would like to point out 2 things:
    1. According to the live splits I saw, they actually went 4:29/4:30 at the mile and 9:41 at 2.1 miles so Colin’s last mile was a 4:22.
    2. Shoutout to Hector Martinez and Dev Doshi, NP’s 6th and 7th men who ran 14:52 and 14:59, respectively. Yes, you read that right: Newbury Park’s ENTIRE VARSITY TEAM can run a SUB 15 5k

As an outsider from the US it's been interesting to watch your vids on the performances of the runners from Newbury Park. Having been involved in X-country and distance running for over 50 years I have been impressed by the determination shown by these young guys - not often seen with runners of this age. Also the willingness to "suffer" and "putting it all out there" during each race has been laudable. I can't say that I have been too impressed with the depth & quality of the senior distance runners that the US has produced over recent years - and (from where I sit abroad) it seems not that it's not from a lack of talent but rather that much of the talent goes across to higher paying and higher profile sports (triathlon, for example). I just hope that these exceptionally talented lads go on with X-country & distance running and one day represent the US proudly on the world stage.

Not as great as the 1961 New Trier Illinois Boys Swim Team. Consider the following for a 1961 Sports Illustrated article:
New Trier not only has the best high school swimming team in America, it has the best high school swimming team in history. It is so good, in fact, that there are currently only three college teams in the entire country-the Olympic-seasoned squads from Indiana, Southern California and Michigan-capable of beating the high schoolers in a dual meet. Five New Trier seniors have posted times that would have placed them either first or second in last year's national collegiate championships.
Newbury Park was incredible but they would not been anywhere near to winning NCAA D1 in cross country. At the biggest swim meet of the year of 1961, the AAU's; New Trier came in third; while competing against all the best college teams. Additionally, of the 9 events swum back then, New Trier swimmers set National high school records in 4 or 5 of them.

Back in high school for me, which was 20+ years ago, we were a solid team and our state times were in the mid 15's on I'd say tough XC style cores, hills, varying terrain, and usually brisk/cold weather. Perhaps the most impressive thing about this is to compare Newbury’s runners times from last track season. They had 7 runners under 15 mins for the 5k. Which makes this team 7 of the top 9 runners in their school’s very impressive history.
Their 7th guy (Dev Doshi) ran 14:59 which is 4:47 per 1600 which matches his 3200 track PR. Leo ran 8:55 for the 3200 last track season, which translates to an 8:58 two mile. This means Leo also matched his track 3200 PR as his cross country first two mile split from this 5k. Lex and Colin weren’t that far off their 3200 track PRs either with that split (they both have 8:43 3200 PRs which translate to 8:46 for two miles). Hector Martinez was also very close to matching his impressive 9:23 3200 time from last year with his 14:52 (this pace over 3200 meters is 9:30). Aaron Sahlman (who ran a phenomenal 14:14) doesn’t have a 3200 PR listed.

New Trier High School in Illinois,1961 Boys Swim Team have them beat. They set 4 or 5 national high school records of the 9 events swum back then. After crushing at States, they entered, what was back then the biggest swim meet of the year; the AAU's. This high school team came in third, beating all the college teams except for three, (Michigan, USC, and Indiana). I don't think that Newbury Park would have come in fourth at the NCAA's this year.

@@anthonyjulianelle6695 impressive. Five athletes on that team were amazing, for sure. Two things to consider: 1. AAU is age group based, meaning HS athletes that are U18 (no older than 18) can compete as well as collegiate athletes. 2. There was an NCAA championship in 1961. I consider these two teams "co-champions" for greatest HS team.

Tough to compare. These guys definitely take the XC all-time crown. In other sports: The Delasalle (CA) Football team won 151 games straight in the 1990's and 2000's. Different kind of domination and different sport, but definitely in the short list of greatest HS teams in any sport. Chino Hills (CA) basketball 2015-16 season (Ball Brothers) should probably be on there too.

Excellent achievement!! The only thing that I’ve noticed with all of Newberry Park success in cross country is that they don’t run races that have hills of any significance cross Country is supposed to be different than Track! Long Hills, steep hills, steep down hills, gullies and, uneven terrain!! That course in Alabama was a 1 mile course run three times on flat terrain! I would also say that 90% of their training and races are in 70 degree weather and dry surfaces!! There’s a couple of courses in the state of Maryland that I doubt they would’ve broken 16 minutes!! Does that course have five significant hills end muddy passes through the woods, the temperature for the championship race What is been in the 40s or 50s!! These boys are fast and have a great coach! And therefore by 1 mile relay in Track what is very impressive!

Extraordinary is the only way to describe this. That race was incredible. However, Id love to see the Newberry park team run the State Championship course in Brooklyn Michigan. That's where the former record was set by Ritz'. Hough, the fifth place finisher at this event ran a time of 14:10 and at the Michigan State championship race(Brooklyn, Mi) he ran around 14:49(I think) a year earlier and became the 2nd fastest time on that course ever.( Hough ran that race slower this year because he was all alone, the previous year he was pushed the whole way) I'll bet the entire Newberry Park team would be over 14:25 maybe 14:30 on that course. That gives some perspective to how incredible Ritz's record was.

If anyone is interested in comparing Newbury Park Cross country to great high school teams in other sports. Here is a segment from an article in Sports Illustrated on the 1961 New Trier High School Boys swim team.
